As Lina had already found out, he had no intention of giving up on his job at the bookstore. That didn’t always mean that he could avoid his ‘Dad’s’ though. Honestly though, he was feeling at least a little easier around ‘Book Dad’. His one worry was that he might get guilt for moving out… temporarily, on Jeremiah. He knew Alg was going to be in that day, so he might have dressed up just a bit, not spectacular given he hadn’t taken his whole closet but, he did toss on his favorite boots. Doc Martins with a custom paint job that looked like galaxies. He was there of course before store open that was just how things worked if you wanted your business to go well. The Candy store was already pumping the smell of warm chocolate into the street but it wouldn’t be open for a few ours. “Knock Knock.” He called, even with the normal chime to alert that days staff that someone had walked in; he always did that with Alg. “… I brought scones.” He added, tea he had no doubt would be ready but, scones…fresh scones, well….

Since Algie lived above the store he was technically always there, but on work days his tea and breakfast was generally taken down in the back break room so he could putter around and do easy small tasks that were mindless and filled the time. Several cups of tea in he was at least able to speak civilly to others. Alg peeked out of the break room door holding a cup of tea in his hands. He looked suspicious, "What is this bribery for?" Because everyone knew the way to his good graces was through his stomach.

“… Hoping that scone bribes might give me a little slack with being … irked with a certain Detective.” Zac grimaced slightly at admitting it. “….I am… sort of staying with…friends and I know he’s not thrilled with that but, I’m not so thrilled with um, his, deal with Sunny.” He admitted. He sighed. “And I know I got caught up in things by making questions, but… I am…hoping to make peace on your front at least?” He offered cautiously. “… there are cinnamon scones in here…” He added hopefully. “…and an orange-cranberry, and a blueberry.”

Algie went right for the scones, picking out a cinnamon because it went better with his tea. He would predictably eat them all first, then blueberry and orange-cranberry last. "Zac," He munched a scone and took a sip of tea to wash it down, "I think you've every right to be angry with him... And you're old enough to live on your own. He's just suffering from empty nest syndrome.." Algie waved a dismissive hand. "He'll get over it." No Algie did not care about that stuff. He and Jeremiah were a thousand times more trouble at that age. "But-" Another bite, a pause to chew and swallow, "I am upset with you for something."

A -heavy- sigh from Zac. “… can we negotiate a second scone delivery rather than a lecture?” he grumbled. “If its about trying to save his bloody life, I am NOT sorry for that.” He said firmly, and then rather pointedly retrieved his own cinnamon scone from the bag. “I’ve NO intention of ever trying that again, or… ending up in…that -palace- ever again…so…Don’t worry.”

"The intent is wonderful Zac," Alg shook his head, "But making shady deals with things we don't understand is not." He raised his hand a moment to stop any dispute, to stop him from saying 'but he did it too', "I'm not sure either of us knew what we were getting into with Sunny-" Back to munching a scone, "I know I didn't. And now that you do you have to handle this with more intelligence." Because Zac was smart, very smart, too smart to fall into the emotional traps that the others may have. Especially now that they knew how dangerous everything can be.

"Well she didn't go for it, and I'm not mucking around with her again for...favors or whatever she wants to couch them as." he said, just a bit of grumble in his voice. "So you're safe despite the intents and... " he almost said stellar examples. "And the number of people who seem to be jumping for the chance." He said instead. "...I'm not saying I'm not going to dig, I want to know what the heck we're dealing with but, I'm not trading her for information. And Clearly she's pretty set on heart ripping so Jerimiah's safety is off the table too." He sighed, frustrated and leaned against the counter. "...did you hear our ...official story"

"I did." Algie finished his scone and took a sip of tea. He then held out a hand scanner and motioned Zac to put a box of new books into inventory if he was going to stand around. "It's plausible as anything. If anyone would have noticed I was gone, I would've said I followed after you both." But no one had noticed the bookstore owners absence. No one would have beside Jeremiah or Zac. Maybe some employees- and the college would eventually- but that fact was something he dealt with in his own time. "Are you not happy about it?"

Deja vu was one thing, and not so odd for him given his penchant for forgetfulness, but this was something else. It was almost a mental assurance that this had happened before... and the sinking twisting feeling that something terrible followed. The expression on his face seemed to drop immediately and his hand unconsciously rested on his stomach, gripping slightly at his sweater before the feeling passed.

Zac blinked, staring, straitening with alarm. "Alg?" He said, "Sir?" falling back into old habits of respect in his anxiety, that prickled along his shoulders at the idea that something terrible and unseen might be happening to his 'Book Dad'. "....What... what's wrong? Are you alright?" His mind raced, heart attack? What about... oh god what were the things that could go wrong in the lower torso, he couldn't even find the words in that moment he was so strung out that he just pinged off symptoms and scrabbled to pull his phone out of his pocket, ready to call 911 as fast as he could. Wouldn't it be awful if he worried so much about 'other' things, to have something far too 'normal' do something awful to those he cared about?

Alg released his grip on his sweater and glanced up at Zac over his glasses, "I'm fine-" His brow furrowed and he wasn't sure why he asked but felt the need, "You're alright.. yes?" Zac got a book dad shoulder pat, followed by a light cheek pat, "Of course you are." The professor took a sip of his tea and cleared his throat, "Something must've- ah- gone down the wrong pipe." And then, without missing a beat, those very green eyes were darting to the still sitting book of new arrivals that Zac could be checking into inventory. "So where are you living? Who with?"

The look Zac gave him was…suspicious to say the least. “Why do I think you’d say ‘fine’ if you were missing a limb?” He asked squinting slightly. “I mean… there is a reason you and Jeremiah are uh….” He trailed off not wanting to start a conversation that would most likely not end well. Perhaps better for him than someone else but… still not WELL. “…so yeah… um… Wil an Nasir?” He replied, hopefully slightly distracting from nearly playing matchmaker. He was still giving a curious look though because Alg, NOT the type of person to be physically express affection very often, and yet he just had. “… are you sure you’re ok? I can put the books out, you can sit at the register and just…kind of… make sure you’re alright.”

The petering off about he and Jeremiah gained a pursed lipped look and an eyebrow raise, but Zac moved past it enough for him not to comment. The truth was that Algie cared about Zac a great deal but he wasn't the type to get very close to people or share his business. He'd only known him a year and a half, and mostly in the context of him being Jeremiah's son and eventually his own employee. He was essentially never okay talking about his relationship issues with anyone.. even with Jeremiah. The reception, should the young man bring it up, would be a chilly one. "Wil and Nasir?" Algie's eyes actually lit up, " Oh he'll love that. You living with that layabout stoner?? Too rich. Did you tell Jeremiah yet?" He was absolutely ignoring the commentary about him sitting behind the counter. "Stop looking at me like that. Haven't you ever seen indigestion before?" Alg pointed again at the box of books and sipped his tea.

“Never indigestion that made you curiously…touch prone.” He said cautiously. “Umm … he knows about Wil, I don’t think he’s caught on to the idea that they seem to be something of a matched set.” He did give a side eye when he said that, but he didn’t –actually- say anything. “… I was going to do some research…just so you know. I wanted to know if I could learn anything about, how much of what we saw the other day has appeared in a more…historical context?” He said trying to make a good explanation of it. “I really don’t know that I’ll find anything –good- or useful mind you, but um… yeah, I thought if I could look for anything that stood out, maybe we could be… for-armed?”
