It had happened so fast. One moment, Aurelija had been arguing with a colorful stallion over who had found that particular apple first... the next? The next, she'd found herself staring up (and up and up) into eyes that seemed impossible to forget. She'd tried. Told herself she was a fool for even letting her thoughts take such a turn. Still, she couldn't get that particular pair of eyes out of her head. From one giddy moment to the next she found herself falling in love.
It... it made no sense. She had wanted this so, so much. But... not like this. Not when the outcome was so uncertain. Did he feel as she did? Imrathion was still new to her. She couldn't read him yet. Still, she found herself waiting for him at a familiar apple tree. Even the flutter of nerves couldn't keep her away. Even so, she hadn't forgotten the improbability of their friendship. She didn't dare to call it a relationship, not yet. Not when he hadn't said... but bright eyed she stood, hopeful and waiting. "Rath?"

He was extra cautious around the apple tree, careful not to be unnecessarily loud. Some part of him felt secretive about the place--about everything. The apple tree dappled his body with sunlight, and shining even more golden beneath it was the very girl he'd been thinking about. Every question vanished and Rath felt as warm those bright eyes staring up at him.
"Aura," he answered her, smiling. He didn't know what to say at first--he never did. But it always happened. They'd talk, and it was fun. He liked it. He liked her...
He wanted to ask her something, anything, but the nerves caught in his throat and he just smiled.

If there had been any question about Aurelija's feelings, it was wiped away completely by the arrival of the stallion of her dreams. She couldn't speak. Her heart was in her eyes as she watched him, as she looked up into those violet eyes, her own amber filled with joy. Elated, she smiled up at him, and couldn't help but take a few steps forward. He dwarfed her considerably, but.... oh, but it didn't matter. He'd kept his word.
"Rath," she said again, feeling as though her heart would beat its way out of her chest. She had never been this happy in her life before. Of that she felt certain. Where had he been all of her life? Maybe he'd always been there. Maybe she'd just never realized how close she'd been to happiness. She crossed the distance between them, unable to tear her gaze away from him even long enough to watch where she was going. Consequently, she nearly bumped right into him. Stopping just short of him, she took a breath. "You came."

He watched Aura move towards him as if time had slowed for the two of them. But when she nearly stumbled into him, reality sharpened slightly and he had to laugh. Hopefully it didn't embarrass her! He certainly wasn't embarrassed. He was happy. Happy. It wasn't like that feeling was so rare for Rath, good-natured as he was. But there was something about this that was different. It was something else entirely--something new. New was usually scary, but not this. He wasn't afraid at all.
"I had to," he smiled down at her, enjoying the way the sunlight played in her amber eyes. He tore his gaze away only to stare at the apple tree for a moment--to thinking about how they'd met, and to remember their promise. He looked back at her. "You came, too," he accused shyly, nervous again.
There were so many possibilities before them--so much to discuss, so much to learn, so much to share...they had their whole lives ahead of them. Where would this meeting take them? The thought made his heart dance.

Time seemed to stand still. Her breath didn't matter. She couldn't quite catch it, even if it had. Totally engrossed by the sight before her, Aurelija smiled, suddenly aware that this stallion was just as anxious as she. "Of course I came. I couldn't stay away." As if she would ever want to. No, Aura knew in her heart that this moment was very important to them both. She knew that... it could change everything.
It might not. She might never see Rath again. But oh, she hoped that she would. She hoped that from this day forward there would scarcely be a day when she didn't see him. Ducking her head a little, still feeling shy, she said: "So... does this mean that you feel the same way as I do?" The little mare couldn't keep the breathless hope out of her voice. It was a hope that threatened to choke her, to break her heart if it was repudiated.

Confidence bubbled up inside Imrathion's chest, and he seemed to visibly puff up as a result. Of course. She chose to meet him, too. That meant...that could only mean one thing. There was nothing to be embarrassed or discouraged about--nothing to feel shy over. She couldn't stay away. Despite his newfound stability, the stallion still wondered if he resembled an idiotic colt from the stubborn smile on his maw.
Aura's question caused his heart to buck, and he swallowed harshly as if the action would calm it. He didn't pause too long before giving his answer.
"Yes," he said gently. It was all there--everything--in his eyes. After a silent moment spent savoring the situation, Rath gestured to the trunk of the tree and moved closer to it. He flopped down boyishly, never realizing how mature finesse had always been, and would forever be, out of his grasp. They'd have enough time to talk there--as much as they wanted. A warm breeze shuddered through the boughs overhead and Rath breathed it in blissfully. For a moment he thought it carried more with it than the smell of fruit, but it passed quickly enough that he ignored it. His head was too full of happiness. Too full? Was such a thing even possible?
Maybe anything was possible with Aura...
