Remembering the Past Prompt 3
Can be used toward Solo or RP req
It has been seven long years since the Great Oban Invasion. It almost feels like a dream, considering all of the changes that have occurred in Tendaji since the great war. A new King sits on the Oban throne, and he has opened the boundaries of Oba and Matori. Many already are taking advantage of the open boarders to travel and explore. The world was expanding and changing all things to the massive war of the great nations.
Since the war, Tendaji took a stand against the extremist Alkidikes and won. They came together to show a new alliance that many could never dream of. Everything was settling, and now that there finally was peace everyone has begun to to take a moment and remember all that has come and gone.
How have the major wars and changes impacted your character these past few years? Are they bitter for their failures or happy about their success? Do they see a peaceful future to come or are they concerned about those who may be still holding grudges?
[Characters not part or even alive during the war can still respond to this prompt. Maybe they have a different way of understanding the war compared to those who were part of it, so feel free to explore those feelings and thoughts in your response]

“Hey Saki….. how come your mothers fine with Obans?” The question came out of the blue and Sakhile looked up from where he was mending the new clothes he’d purchased.
“Cause mom likes everyone?”
Brenshin and Alos both chuckled but Alos shook his head. “Not that.. you told us how she’d been held captive. How come she’s not afraid or nervous about obans? I mean… I know your father is.”
“He’s suuuuper unhappy about you having Oban friends.” Brenshin rolled his eyes. “All the hissy fits!”
Sakhile smiled a bit. “Mother decided to not let one event shape her thoughts. Uncle Tanzen told me she was rather scared the first few months back in Neued. But then she started making and effort to talk to the Oban settlers. Music and dance helped her to connect with them. And once you can understand them well.. its hard to hate a whole group of people just cause of a few bad apples!” He sighed. “Would have been nice if Dad had thought the same or done the same. But he never did. Just anger over us always going to the dances the Obans through, always going on about dangers that didn’t exist or blowing things out of proportion.”
“Zimbasi miiiight have something to do with that.” Alos’s eyes twinkled and Sakhile laughed.
“He probably did! Tall, broad, muscled… and clearly crushing on his wife? I bet that didn’t make Dad any happier! But its not like mother would cheat! She likes flirting with people but she’s very faithful.” He scowled. “Wish dad could see how disrespectful it was to keep on doubting her! He married her right? Why not trust her!”
The others nodded in agreement. “I bet it’s because he felt threatened or maybe something happened to him in the past. Maybe he had self image issues? I can see being worried that your pretty little wife would go wandering away when a big tall handsome smith winks at her when you are several feet shorter than him and not muscled as well! I know that my lil bro’s got issues like that since he’s so skinny and lean.” Brenshin pipped up.
“That’s probably it. But he never mentioned things like that.” Sakhile shrugged. “Growing up with Obans I never took his warnings seriously. Why would I fear you guys when we played together in the trees? When mother and father were busy it was either a shifter, oban, or matorian who looked after me! Its hard to think of other tribes as ‘dangerous’ or that they are all hateful or arrogant or things like that when you see so much variety growing up!”
Brenshin chuckled. “This coming from the hybrid who grew up with no hatred being directed at him!”
“That’s cause Senja was well liked and respected since she found jobs for a lot of people. Or directed them to where they could find them.” Alos said from his lounging position on the couch. “She did for my family!”
Sakhile had been about to respond but that made him pause. Had that been why he’d heard of the hatred towards hybrids but never experienced it? It was true he’d stuck to neighborhoods where people knew his mother or worked at his family’s place…. It bore thinking on! “Never thought of it that way. But it makes sense now.” He looked over at Brenshin. “Enough about me! How come you don’t hate em?”
“Same reason as you.” He chuckled. “Father may have been crippled by his master before we were freed and did hate them but he made sure not to force his hate on me. He’d just nod and smile when I’d talk about my oban friends… which to be fair is mostly Alos and Prola. I think he wanted me to grow up without hatred and just accept people as they were. Mother probably had a hand in that!”
“We’ve got some good parents.” Alos said and Sakhile agreed.
Later that night Sakhile kept thinking of the conversation. It’d been a long time since the wars and yet still people bore hatred for each other… Hatred for someone you’d never met he couldn’t understand! Hatred for someone who’d hurt you he could…. But to hate Obans because some had been cruel? No.. he could not do that.
