Name: Hargitt Stage: Stage 2 (Archer -> Ranger path) Race: Wind Gender: Male 3 Base Traits: Introverted, Stoic, Artistic Personality:
--->Stoic Being part of a very large, very opinionated family has forced Hargitt to practice patience lest he lose his mind. Since he usually only responds in grunts and clipped words most assume he's this walking, mountain of danger. Where most strangers keep their distance because of this, the simplicity of his speech has helped him more than once in wrangling his little brothers. Where as his eldest brother was always prone to walking away in frustration from the chaos that comes from a large gathering of young boys, Hargitt simply endures. He subtly coaxes them into either obeying or taking their ruckus outside. Because of this, despite his rather imposing demeanor, he's become a sort of favorite among his brothers. They will often come to him when a problem arises and his parents don't have the time to help.
He's become accustomed to placing the needs of the family above his own. Hargitt will very rarely, if ever, complain; he simply endures. As one of the eldest he knows it's his duty to see to the protection of his brothers and if that means working twice as hard to bring in food, or going straight to work with the capramel after a long hunt then so be it.
Most of the time his brothers have to work hard to coax any sort of personal 'desire' out of him, since he either never says it or simply goes off to do what he wants without telling anyone.
--->Artistic Often times when things are stressful, or if he's been called out on a particularly long hunt, Hargitt will bring his well worn sketch book with him. It's a secret hobby of his; one that only his youngest brother, Tivis, knows about; mostly because the boy is attached to his hip and it was impossible to hide. It helps to relieve not only boredom, but sketching helps him to work through bouts of melancholy that threaten to consume him when out with his Uncle.
There isn't one particular thing that Hargitt enjoys drawing most. Scenery, portraits, dreams, etc.; it's all fodder for his work. Of course there are times when he cannot draw (either due to lack of materials, an injury, etc.) and those are the worst. He becomes visibly twitchy; as if at that one moment all of his inspiration has come upon him like an itched that has to be scratched at that very moment.
Hargitt both finds relaxation and a sense of defensive embarrassment from his sketches. This skill isn't a particularly useful one to his survival, so most days he hates that he even does it at all since he could be spending that time doing something productive. However, like any true addict, he can't seem to kick the habit.
--->Introverted Due to his childhood in a small Sauti settlement Hargitt has developed a highly reflective and reserved personality. It isn't that he dislikes the company of others; in all actuality, he loves it, but only in small doses. Larger numbers, even being around his entire family for long stretches of time tends to exhaust him.
Hargitt takes pleasure in solitary activities such as hunting, and tracking Regular interactions with trusted souls are seen as enjoyable to him, though trust is hard earned with him. It's an issue of significance, and finding someone who understands his need for 'personal space' without being offended is hard to find.
At the end of the day Hargitt just isn't the most exuberant soul. He prefers to observe situations before participating, often dwelling on what he's should say for far longer than he should. Because of this his welcoming personality is often hid behind a socially awkward, if not outright gruff, shell that is often overwhelmed by the sheer amount of bodies around him. He simply doesn't understand how to mingle like everyone else, and finds the act of trying horribly stressful.
Description: His skin is a darker hue, a combination of a naturally darkened hide as well as hours spent working outdoors. This only serves as a contrast to Hargitt's very light blonde hair that falls past his shoulders in wild, wavy curls. (It isn't unlikely to see a twig or two stuck in that wild mane). His eye's are also a lighter hue, and usually hold some sort of challenge within them.
(Possible hair refs; 1, 2, 3)
Physically he's a big, thick, burly guy. He'll be a veritable bear once he's grown. His crystals range from large spikes to smaller, smoother accent crystals on his shoulders, forearms, outer thighs and calves. Hargitt has a few scars here and there; nothing major, just little nicks that refused to heal properly.
Clothing: From the waist and below of this outfit (one on the right; height of boot/boot style is CC) with the rest pulled from inspirations from all three. Colors should be simple browns / tans / ivories and blacks. Patches, torn cloth, etc. are fine.
Accessories: A simple, leather corded necklace with an animal jaw hanging from it. Beyond that Hargitt isn't much into the flashy stuff; it just gets in the way.
History: Anora and Delwyn Farys were a match made by the Gods themselves.
The pair had been close as friends in the settlement of Tind, and through the years a romantic relationship was formed. Anora, who had always been an opinionated sort, told Delwyn from the start that if he wanted to marry her he had better give her a daughter. What man wouldn't make that kind of promise to wed the woman of his dreams? It seemed a small price to pay, since he already planned on a big family with Anora. Surely somewhere along the line a girl would come into the mix.
Years came and went. The pair spent their time raising capramel to sell, watching with baited breath as their family expanded. When their first child was born, a son, both were ecstatic. Anora didn't have her girl yet, but this was only the first of many children she wished to have, so surely one day her time would come. One son turned to two, then three, four, five...after nine sons Anora seemingly gave up all hope on having a daughter. The Gods had obviously thought to bless them in other ways, and while Anora was a little disappointed, she still deeply loved her sons.
Growing up as the third son of nine proved challenging, though rewarding, for Hargitt. His parents spared as much time as they could for him while also trying to balance the responsibilities of work and his brothers. There was a balance to be found in this; with so many brothers and a herd of capramel to tend to Hargitt never had time to feel lonely. He was always working on something whether that be chores, or bothering one of his brothers.
As he grew it became obvious that tending to capramel wasn't going to be enough to occupy Hargitt's mind. He was restless; constantly moving, shifting, pressing the boundaries of his parents laws. Anora's solution was to have him train under her brother, Yuuria, to learn bow hunting. Delwyn was less certain this would work. The older boys had spent some time with Yuuria as well, but the man's harsh personality hadn't endeared him to the boys. He worried what sort of influence this would have over their already quiet son, but Anora wouldn't be swayed. This was how it was going to be, whether Hargitt or his father liked it or not.
Yuuria was less than pleased to be saddled with another of his sister's brats. He valued his time away from his pushy family which instantly put him in the mind to dislike Hargitt before ever truly getting to know the boy. Hargitt's first few months with Yuuria were a flurry of trials; the man ran him hard, shoving and grinding Hargitt until the energetic youth became a stable hunter. At first Hargitt hated his mother for sending him to Yuuria. The man would often deny Hargitt meals, and punish him by yanking fist fulls of hair so hard he felt as if his scalp would come off should he make the slightest mistake. At first he tried to tell his mother about it, but she told him of course Yuuria had to be rough; how else was he going to learn? She didn't believe her son's tales about the level to which Yuuria took his authority and the already quiet boy clammed up entirely about what truly happened on his trips. He blamed it on his own inability to rise to Yuuria's challenges, and knew that his mother likely had too much to worry about already without fussing over a weak son. So, Hargitt tried twice as hard and suffered through those years on his own.
Hargitt had never contemplated leaving Tind before that point. Of course he had seen nomads passing through, but he had just assumed he would stay in their little settlement like his parents for the rest of his years. Yuuria changed all of that. His uncle explained that in order to hunt effectively you had to track your prey, and sometimes that meant being gone for weeks. As Hargitt grew his relationship with Yuuria had changed to the point that while the older man now tolerated his nephew's presence, the younger man couldn't stand him. Thoughts of extended trips drifted to just leaving the older man all together to fend for himself, but Hargitt could never do it. Many a night he had lain awake wondering what it would be like to just leave, though each morning he would inevitably fall into the same routine as yesterday. As much as he detested his Uncle, Hargitt loved his family dearly and ditching the man would inevitably bring on so much flack from his family that going home would be just as rough as staying out in the wilderness with Yuuria.
So, Hargitt grew, and boy did he grow. Anora's family was chocked full of large, burly men that put her husband to shame. His elder brothers had taken more after their father in stature, while Hargitt seemed to be a pseudo clone of his mother. He became tall, much taller than other boys his age, quiet and imposing. Because of his silent nature and the gravel like quality of his voice the village teens avoided him entirely. Not that Hargitt would have known what to do with friends if he'd had them; beyond his brothers he'd spent little to no time around others his age, and those social skills most children developed early on with their peers just weren't there.
By his seventeenth birthday Hargitt will have spent little to no time in Tind at all, without much changing as he ages. Most of his interactions are with fellow hunting parties, whose conversations are often clipped and factual. He knows there are now marital issue at home, mostly concerning rumors about his mother and a lover she's taken (one she vehemently denies and his father has yet to get to the bottom of).
Facts -His sense of smell is so keen that it rules his life. While it's a useful skill when on the hunt, it also dampens his interactions with others. If they don't smell 'right' to him he'll generally avoid them -Hates having his hair / head touched. Hargitt only brushes his hair when absolutely necessary, and will harm anyone who tries to touch his hair. Years of abuse under his Uncle has conditioned him to fear anyone who comes that close, and to strike out first.

Plots specific for Stage 2
Jakkoa (owned by Uke) has a sister who is sick with with an unknown disease, and while some are convinced it's a strand of an already existing illness, he's convinced it's new. Thanks to this he feels compelled to leave his family to travel abroad in an effort to learn as much as he can about a possible cure, or how to develop one. However, Jakkoa knows that he can't travel alone, and thus enters Hargitt.
Hargitt is already an experienced traveler, albeit in Sauti, and has proven himself to be a capable, dependable hunter. There is a long term friendship connecting Jak's father and Hargitt's parents, which allows for Jak's family to stay with them while the nomads are in the area. It's a familiar place where they'll be staying while Amarda (Jak's sister) is sick.
Meanwhile, in the background, Hargitt is being set up for an arranged marriage. His parents are concerned because he's become more withdrawn throughout the years (thanks, mostly, to his Uncle) and think that a little love in his life is exactly what he needs to perk up. While Hargitt isn't opposed to marriage, he wants it to be on his terms and is itching now more than ever to get out.
Jakkoa catches wind of this and will proposition Hargitt; a fake engagement in exchange for protection. They've never been particularly close friends, just the children of friends, but are familiar with each other for this to be a thought. Jakkoa is willing to attach himself to Hargitt for the time it will take to find a cure for his sister, during which time Hargitt will act as a guide, a guard, and whatever else Jak has need of. This will ultimately free Hargitt for a while of the arranged marriage, and give him some much needed space from his Uncle Yuuria.
Around family the two will act as a happy couple, but away from knowing eyes they will be anything, but. The whole thing will be played off as a grand, instantaneous story book sort of romance; the sort that is almost non-believable, but incredibly romantic. However, since Hargitt is rarely home his parents will barely question it. His Uncle, however, will know the truth of how often he's 'seen' his lover, but this will be a confrontation for later (i.e. by the time Uncle pokes out the truth they will be an official couple or well on their way).
On Jakkoa's side things will be a little different. His family will obviously see through the rouse, as he's too flighty to truly settle down this soon, but his step-mother will just be thrilled t o have him gone. Jak's father, however, will know the full truth. He'll be of the mindset that so long as it keeps his son safe, they're both happy and if it's what they want then best of luck to them.

-quietly sidles in-
Does anyone else in his family (mother/father/brothers/uncle) know of his drawing/have any of them ever caught him in it, or is it a quiet little secret of his? And, since he's an eligible young bachelor, what is his idea of a perfect date/romantic night out? emotion_dowant

His drawing is mostly a secret hobby. I've always assumed that his father may have picked up a little sketch book some time ago, and just sort of given it to whatever son wanted it (maybe it was passed onto him from a friend, maybe he found it, etc.) They might have seen Hargitt work a few times in the beginning, before he developed any real skill, but he's since hidden it away to the point where likely no one remembers.
The only one who does know that he still actively draws is his youngest brother, Tivis. Tivis often shares sleeping quarters with Hargitt (mostly because he's so little and gets chilled, so why not sleep next to the big, warm brother? free space heater, yo). As Hargitt usually draws when times are quiet it stands to reason that Tivis would have seen it a time or two, but Hargitt's likely sworn the boy to secrecy.
As for his perfect idea of a date...going on a Sauti climbing adventure with his date to watch the sun set over the mountains. BD

Outside of the romance and the plot to travel and find something for his sister, how does Hargitt impact Jakkoa and inspire growth? Clearly he is a solution to a need, but is there anything outside of the overview you've posted that Hargitt will bring to the table that no one else will?
Really, I'm just curious to see a bit more, because mostly you show off plot, but I'm very interested in the examination of how Hargitt will help Jakkoa grow.
And in turn, how is Jakkoa going to inspire growth in Hargitt outside of the plot points provided?
I guess, really, I am curious about the major plot point (if there is one) of when they go from partners to lovers. Do you anticipate it to be a gradual growth, or do you see their travels challenging them both to reconsider themselves and reconsider each other?
Tough questions, I know, but I am very interested in this dynamic and am curious on how you two think it might go (and obviously this could evolve differently, but it sounds like you two got some great ideas cooking!)

Hargitt is not a social man; at all. While he sees socializing as a sort of necessary evil, and comforting in small doses, he'll go out of his way to avoid it. That being said if he had never decided to go with Jakkoa the man would have spent more and more time on his own, eventually falling into some sort of depression. More specifically, a general apathy to do anything since every day is the same and while there is "comfort" in routine, there isn't anything to help fertilize his spirit.
Jak provides resistance. He's opinionated, which Hargitt is no stranger to dealing with, but also a flamboyantly flighty sort that will constantly test the limits of his patience. More importantly, Jak will be the only one to push Hargitt beyond those boundaries.
Hargitt has always placed himself behind the needs of his family and those of his younger siblings. Despite being a physically strong man, he's always bowed to the wills of his elders, often chipping away at himself in the process. Being around Jak will change that immensely. His own needs will start to become a priority, which will be interesting to me because really, at this point, Hargitt's buried himself so far beneath his 'duties' as an elder son that he doesn't even really know what he wants out of life. He'll get jealous, possessive, snappy, excited, nervous; just down right openly emotional. For a guy whose so used to keeping up a wall so as not to show the more vulnerable sides of himself, just having someone to throw that at and not have it shunned will be pivotal for his mental growth.
It's very true that in the beginning they're both a convenient fix to each other's immediate problem; the true meat of the plotting comes a good deal later, when through sheer grit and determination they're still with each another.
In essence over a long, long period of time Jakkoa will go from a necessary evil to a precious being in Hargitt's eyes. He'll be the reason why Hargitt starts to give in to HIS desires, and starts to think, "You know what? I want to see the ocean because it's something I want and not something I SHOULD be doing". In the beginning he'll see this influence as something to be ignored, pushed the side and all around suppressed until he learns that in moderation it's actually a lot healthier than just ghosting through life.
Hargitt's the kind of guy that if he doesn't learn how to let things go he'll pop one day, and Jak's just the kind of guy to peel back the layers, one painful strip at a time, until they can both see what's inside.

And as for Jak...
Before Hargitt, Jak has had a very narrow circle of people who he considers truly valuable/actually cares about - limited basically only to his family. Everyone else, while fun to engage with, was never much more than a means to an end. Jak takes on the healer path purely for his sister, not for anyone else who he might heal along the way. Other patients aren't really patients to him; they're practice. Hargitt, while familiar to Jak, is quiet enough that he's a mystery and, at first, is also a means to an end. As they spend more time together, though, and as Jak pursues his own goals, being with Hargitt on an extended basis will show Jak (basically in parallel from what Hargitt learns from Jak) that there is more to life than just pleasing yourself. There is more out there than just bargain, profit, and gain to be had.
Hargitt has had a wildly different life experience and outlook despite them growing up in the same region and around the same general culture, and his selflessness and dogged, genuine and quiet attitude will surprise Jak more than once and force him to consider things and learn to value things he never really did before. Jak's tendency is to see the world perpetually in a give/take, cost/benefit analysis, but Hargitt will challenge that, keeping Jak on his toes and thinking as opposed to boxing Hargitt into a category, labeling him 'predictable,' getting bored and moving his attention elsewhere.
Their progression from traveling partners to actual lovers will be very gradual, definitely. Jak and Hargitt do not see eye to eye at first. Jak is generally fairly shallow and out for a good, quick time without attachment, whereas Har is much more serious, down to earth, and looking for commitment-or-nothing-at-all. But extended exposure and gradually needing to rely on and learn about each other in bits and pieces will build something between them that eventually inspires Jak to work on pursuing Hargitt's interest in earnest/proving to him that he *can* show commitment when he wants to. Really, they'll test each other's assumptions and boundaries, and balance each other out - roughly at first, but much more smoothly in the end as they learn to build on each other's strengths and weaknesses as opposed to just being at odds.

He sounds like a super quiet super reserved character... what could make him angry? What would make him yell? Has he ever snapped? What would peoples reactions be if he did?
Other than that you made a well detailed character and looks like you have your plots well planned!

I imagine Hargitt as one of those guys with a mental stress meter. Like, it goes up to a point where he's 'okay' and as it keeps climbing he gets twitchier. A slow build up sort of anger, really. He's protective of family and friends, so naturally anyone who would see them harm will go up pretty far on his meter, but even then it would be a cool, thought out sort of anger /revenge scenario.
What would make him yell and snap, though? Hargitt has kept his emotions repressed for so long that situations where there is no clear cut answer for him would stress him out. For example, were Jak to be threatened and Hargitt unable to at least try to defend him (i.e. maybe he was being pinned down or was drugged) Hargitt would likely come close to breaking his neck just to get there.
It takes a long time to push him to the edge, but once he's there it takes just as long to pull him back. Hargitt is a force of nature when enraged; he beat a boy unconscious with his fists as a child because he killed Hargitt's favorite capramel for no good reason. He might have murdered the boy if his brothers (plus father) hadn't been able to pull him off. The boy had never gotten along with Hargitt or his brothers, though usually their squabbles always ended up with broken noses and harmless pranks. The capramel set him off; there was no sense in dragging an innocent in and his sheer grief broke his his control.
Since he does make strong emotional bonds when he bothers to make them at all the severance of those bonds causes him to explode. Very rarely will he yell, mostly he always just jumps to fisticuffs first, but yelling is usually brought on when his emotional state is too chaotic for him to control. Since he doesn't vent his emotions in a healthy, productive manner they usually bottle up inside until something sets him off. Usually it's in the throws of a would be panic attack, where his emotions just roll out like word vomit and he'll hit things just to relieve stress.
