Remembering the Past
Prompt 3

Can be used toward Solo or RP req

It has been seven long years since the Great Oban Invasion. It almost feels like a dream, considering all of the changes that have occurred in Tendaji since the great war. A new King sits on the Oban throne, and he has opened the boundaries of Oba and Matori. Many already are taking advantage of the open boarders to travel and explore. The world was expanding and changing all things to the massive war of the great nations.

Since the war, Tendaji took a stand against the extremist Alkidikes and won. They came together to show a new alliance that many could never dream of. Everything was settling, and now that there finally was peace everyone has begun to to take a moment and remember all that has come and gone.

How have the major wars and changes impacted your character these past few years? Are they bitter for their failures or happy about their success? Do they see a peaceful future to come or are they concerned about those who may be still holding grudges?

[Characters not part or even alive during the war can still respond to this prompt. Maybe they have a different way of understanding the war compared to those who were part of it, so feel free to explore those feelings and thoughts in your response]

Neska sat on a hill and watched the sun rise yet again over the sprawling hills and grasslands of Tale. In her lap lay a growing young kinfa that she’d been doing her best to raise all alone. Her mind wandered back in the years as she sat and watched the sun rise and wondered why she was still here. What she’d done so far in yer young life.. and what she’d not done.

Years ago, she’d lost both her mothers in the Oban war at the young age of 6… She was now 13 and adopted by Vollerei. Some days she still missed her blood mothers... but Vollerei had done a lot to help her heal and grow. But had she really grown? She thought of the events in those years since her life had died and began again.

She’d been scared, cried a lot, hid from anything that made her nervous. She’d learned to cook! But not to fight… and her people were warriors at heart. Neska wondered if she’d ever really be like her sisters or mothers. They all seemed so filled with fire and confident! And here she was… so filled with fear and nerves. She’d dodged learning how to fight for so long simply because she didn’t want to fight... fighting meant dying… meant hurting others and being hurt.

And then the extremists had risen up and shaken her tribe to its core. How could people feel so… so angry or hateful towards others? They’d yelled and screamed and raged.. and she had hidden. She hadn’t even bothered to try and defend those poor earthlings! She hadn’t fought in that war either. She’d hid… like the coward she was.

The sun shone brightly into her dark eyes and she squinted and looked away. The world around her was died in golden light and the sky above was turning a bright blue blushed with pink and pale lavender.

She had wanted to try and change herself… had decided to go with the interesting ice person to Zena.. but they’d wanted to leave right as the holiest of days came up and Neska could not, would not, bring herself to not return to Aisha’s side on that day. And now here she was…. All alone out in Tale… looking for someone she had barely met two years ago!

Probably left me here since I didn’t go with them that one time! Which… to be fair, was reasonable. They had meant to return home, why would they wait in a warzone area for some girl they didn’t know to join them?

For two years she’d lived out here, hiding from any danger and living off the land. Which was fine. Unlike her adopted mother she had no need for different foods or a lot of it. Neska could exist on simple fruits and nuts easily.

Her mother had been so proud and happy when she’d told her she was going out to see the world; that Neska was slightly depressed about. Had she really been so clingy her mother wanted her gone? But Vollerei had followed her out and always dropped by every few months to make sure she was fine.. so perhaps it wasn’t so much clingy as finally making a move on her own and doing something?

And here she was! Doing… something? She sighed. No, she was doing nothing, just waiting for someone to find her. She hadn’t learned to fight, she hadn’t learned anything! Well… she did know how to survive in Tale.. and hide really well…. But neither of those were praise worthy!

Perhaps it is time to go somewhere else? Do I return home? Learn to fight or try to go elsewhere and learn to fight on my own? She sighed. If she left it up to herself, she’d not learn anything! I need to find a teacher; and my mother, much as I love her, is not one who can teach me. Maybe her girl friend though? Niabi seemed a lot like Neska... and the way she acted, reserved and quiet yet still confident, was something Neska wanted to be.

I should at least go home and see what else mother had learned about Kinfas.. sine her baby one was growing up fast! And a weapon.. I’ll get some knowledge while at the Isles…She made a promise to herself and stood up in the morning light It was time to move on.
