Normally Fiona preferred to use contractors that Watson Design Inc already had but she was looking for some better modification that what they were willing to do now that she'd picked a house. She wanted a creative, youthful mind to help her go over ideas and tell her what was and wasn't possible.

So, Fiona did something she never thought she'd do.

She got on Craigslist and searched through their offered services trying not to be too grossed out by some of the wanted ads or the offerings. Finally she stumbled upon something worth while, a man named Pasi Järvinen offering engineering at a relatively affordable cost.

She was hesitant about calling him, let alone meeting up with him, but she'd sent him a message with a small description of what she was looking for and a place to meet. The ginger had settled on using Chase's cafe because it was safe, in case Pasi turned out to be bad news bears.

So, she sat on one of the stools lining the counter with her hair pulled into a braid that fell across a shoulder with a folder clutched tightly in one hand, cup of coffee in the other and waited.

Fiona might have been hesitant about contacting some random person from Craig's List, but she would find that Pasi - through the internet, at least- was quite professional and well spoken. He'd found her request to be plausible and had agreed to meeting in person to discuss the project more fully, allowing her to chose a location and time not only because she was his prospective employer, but also because she was a woman and he didn't want to make her uncomfortable or wary.

Pasi arrived precisely one minute before the agreed-upon time (so that he would be there right when he should be), dressed in dark jeans, a t-shirt and a dark blazer that hung open.

The woman - Fiona - had given him a description, so he was able to locate her fairly quickly, walking up with slow, measured strides. "Fiona? Hello, I am Pasi, it's very nice to meet you." He would have offered his hand but both of hers were occupied with items, so instead he nodded to her. "Would you like to find a quieter space, perhaps a booth, to speak?" And coffee, I will have to get some. I wonder if this place is good or if she chose it for other reasons.

Pasi was easy to spot once he walked through the door, especially when he approached her almost immediately. Her head lifted, a professional smile spreading across her pink painted lips, and she nodded in greeting, sliding off the stool and shifting the things in her hand until everything was in one and she could offer him her hand.

"Ah, yes. It's a pleasure to meet you," she replied, tipping her head back so she could attempt to look him in the eye. Even with her heels putting her just under 6ft, the Finnish man towered over her.

What the hell was with Destiny City and the freakishly large population of giants?

"Oh, of course. There's a booth over there in the corner, I wanted to make sure you could find me before we moved over there," she gestured with her coffee-occupied hands to one of the booths lining the wall with large glass windows. She appeared to be assessing him, a finger tapping against the paper cup before she glanced towards the barista behind the counter, obviously waiting to see if they'd be ordering.

"Let me get you a drink, then we can discuss business."

It was reassuring to see that the woman was not some wilting thing, that she was both professional in dress and in manner. That - at least - she had going for her, and the Finn made an unconscious note to temper his acerbic tone while he spoke with the redhead. A perfunctory hand-shake later, and with introductions completed they could move on to the more important parts of their interaction.

Looming wasn't his intent, but being naturally taller he couldn't really help it; when Fiona mentioned taking a booth, he nodded amiably - it would be easier to earn her trust and make a good impression (as she was a potential employer) when they were sitting more or less eye-to-eye. "Thank you. Black coffee, light roast preferably."

Many were under the impression that a dark roast held more caffeine, but it was not so. Pasi did not make useless small-talk while they waited for his coffee, he only thanked the barista and then Fiona for it's acquisition before heading over to the booth she had indicated, folding himself neatly into it and watching as she did the same.

"Let us talk business, shall we? You were wanting modifications to a home, yes? More...eclectic than was offered by another firm?" They had already discussed the general nature of his fees: supplies, his time, and as long as there was no rush, he did not tack on extra costs. But those were generalities, not specifics..thus their meeting.

Fiona was tall for her gender and with her heels she nearly stood tall enough to look Pasi in the eye, but still the man's height eclipsed hers and she was forced to tip her chin upward. She appeared to be studying his face, his expression before she nodded and requested the preferred beverage.

Once both of them had their cup of brew in hand, she slid into the booth seamlessly. From there she took a minute to set her cup and folder on the table before arranging them in a neat manner in front of her. "Yes, it's quite the project." A bit more than she could properly handle on her own, but she Fiona wasn't about to admit that, she was far too prideful to even consider doing such. Especially not to a potential employee. "I wanted unique perspectives on some of the additions that I'm hoping to build, particularly this medical wing."

She plucked a paper from her folders and slid it over to the man. On it was a rough sketch of a potential layout, blueprints of some things she thought might be needed or possible. "I'm concerned about proper ventilation systems, but none of my previous contacts could give me insight or suggestions, I'm hoping for another opinion?"

Once they settled down to business, Pasi dispensed with all but the barest niceties as he much preferred substance to his conversations. "A big project is not a problem so much, but I have classes and will have to work around that." Fiona knew he was a student, he'd said as much, but the scope of her project prompted him to reiterate this fact so that she'd understand he would not be completing anything within a tight timeframe without reasonable compensation. She wasn't stupid, but he knew that sometimes Americans forgot about considerations in their...exuberance.

"Hm." Pasi drank his coffee, enjoying the tang and bite, as he perused Fiona's sketch. There were a few concerning things with the way certain sections were set up - it would make adding adequate ventilation tricky. Not impossible, but depending on how the support beams had been set up... "You'll want a forced HVAC system, for a medical wing. With each section capable of shutting down separately or no?" He had no idea why she'd want or need a medical wing but that wasn't his business - he was there to assist in making her requests take shape in reality. "It is a problem of supporting the unit you will need for the system, ja? You use a rooftop unit, more support struts go in, making laying out the vents effectively difficult. You use a ground unit and maybe the system doesn't work so well or it gets clotted with debris or sucks in animals." Even with shielding and mesh, it could be a problem.

Seeing her wishes, it wasn't difficult for Pasi to understand why she'd had difficulty with other contractors - most weren't willing to work that far outside the box. But he found it an engineering puzzle and had no problems working these sorts of things out. The brunet pulled out his phone and opened an app to make notes in; cryptic squiggles in Finnish along side notations about size.

"I recommend using a separate unit to the existing structure, reinforcing the new build and going with a rooftop unit for a closed system. Tonnage can be determined later, but it will not be small for what you want. Also, medical units have regulations we will have to follow if you are to pass an inspection." He looked up from his notes, arching one brow at her in a questioning manner, "Unless this is of no concern to your project." Pasi's tone held no judgement, he simply needed to know - was her project going to be put through rigorous inspections?

There was so much technical information that went into this sort of thing - and granted, it was not his speciality so he had no idea about the restrictions behind such things, only that they must exist. As the engineer - prospective engineer, as she'd not hired him just yet - he would look into it so that she did not have to.

"I can be more creative if no, otherwise it will be much more rigid. Either way, this is not a problem. I'd like to take this papers back with me if you hire me - there will need layout changes, I think, for maximum space effectiveness with your systems." Plus, at home he had her e-mail and all the information and ideas she'd sent him therein...and he could set things out in a manner such that even the most ridiculously meat-headed contractor could manage to build in such a manner as to allow Pasi to come in and work his magic.

Fiona listened to Pasi with the patience and concentration of a woman well practiced in business, pleasantries, and manners. She made frequent eye contact and often only looked away when he was pointing to something or glancing to his phone occasionally as he made notes.

"I'm well aware of your scheduling limitations," she said. It'd come up originally and while it wasn't ideal, it was something she could work around. Besides, he wouldn't be doing all the labor alone which meant that construction wouldn't be at a standstill while he worked on his education.

"It's not necessary," she replied in reference to the ability to shut down sections separately. "A separate unit system for it is fine." She'd thought she might need as much anyway. "Realistically it doesn't need to attach to the house itself, though that would be ideal. It's not for business use - " she stopped, brow furrowing as her lips pursed. There wasn't really a good way to describe what she wanted it for without giving away things. "There will be quality check inspections but nothing regulated. Though, I would prefer we stay within regulation guidelines as allowable." Which meant there was wiggle room.

"I have multiple copies." She kept a copy of each file and then had spares depending on what parts of the project were being managed by different companies. "We can schedule an on site viewing if you think it'd help before you draft anything."

As much as the Finn would have preferred that working on other people's projects was not necessary, he definitely appreciated that Fiona was paying attention and seemed to get what he was saying. Some didn't, even when he was speaking in mostly layman's terms - those were the people he walked out on. Pasi did not need that sort of stupidity nor aggravation in his life, it was already chock full of it thanks to Aue.

If he were surprised when she mentioned her project wasn't for business use, the brunet didn't look it; he simply accepted the things Fiona told him and added the information to his mental project folder. "Okay, this is not a problem." He wondered if she understood that she could be penalized for building something on her property if she did not go through getting proper permits - or, if she had (which he felt was likely as she seemed no idiot) whether or not she'd thought through labeling the space as medical. Not my worry or problem, all I have to do is engineer the damn thing to work how she wants.

"Ja, I would like to see the property before I bother drafting anything concrete, even with your blueprints. You will be able to bring in a construction crew one I have the framework, I will be there to help and supervise where necessary on the finer points though any contractor worth the cash should be able to move without me on that much" Three days likely, a week at the outset, between him handing over his plans and her having a team execute - he was not a carpenter, she knew this and likely planned accordingly. Once the walls were up, he would handle electricity and some of the plumbing. From there it could be finished without his input.

Probably.

Not that he'd leave it alone unless he had to - Pasi did not trust contractors to leave his work alone: they had meddled before, thinking they knew better. It had caused problems until he'd bodily thrown the offending man off the work-site. That had not gone over well until he'd calmed enough to explain why the man was an idiot sandwich.

He really hoped this would not be a 'thing' on Fiona's project.

Some of the things went over her head, but for the most part, Fiona was capable of matching the man's pace. She didn't do projects like this without extensive research beforehand. It was part of why her parents had allowed her to take control of the firm when they had decided to move to France.

Engineering and actual construction wasn't her forte, but the project was too important for her to not take the time to learn enough.

Besides, Pasi seemed to be willing to dumb things down as he could for her and that was appreciated. "Of course. I have to take a look at some of my scheduling, but I'll reach out with a few choices of dates and times and we'll make something work off of your availability." If she had to re-arrange some things, she would, to find a time that worked for them both.

The man had the skill set she required, she would make it work. "All of that sounds reasonable. You're free to supervise the crew as you see fit, once your primary job is done and we'll figure out a fair rate when we reach that point." She had begun collecting her things, sliding what she wasn't giving Pasi back into her folders and then bag.

"It's my project, but your work and detailing so, if you want to remain a presence through the entirety, I don't see where the issue would be."

Fiona slid out of her seat, offered the large man her hand and a soft smile. "If you feel comfortable with everything, I'll take my leave and we'll speak again soon?"
