It was bound to happen eventually.

With rumors of great beasts roaming the shores of Yael, many mainlanders flocked across the sea to capture the exotic beasts. In no time at all, they returned with large scaled monsters, dangerously translucent serpents, and turtles that carried the earth. These traders traveled across the Mainland to parade the beasts, going from Matori to Zena and everywhere between. Soon enough, everyone had either seen the Yaeli beasts or at least heard of them.

And they were sure to hear about the beasts when they escaped.

With such little knowledge of the foreign creatures, the traders underestimated the animals. In no time at all, the Yaeli beasts escaped into the wilderness and ended up near your location. With new creatures all but knocking on your door, what do you do? Do you dare to try and tame them, or do you run them off back into the wilderness? You better hurry, because these creatures are lost and scared, and are sure to cause some damage before they are captured once more....

|| If you are located in Yael, respond to this prompt as if you witnessing a mainlander abducting one of the newly announced familiars. Do you step in or run away? Use the same rolls below, but instead of subduing the beast, you are rolling to test your success for freeing it. You may encounter any beast on Yael if you are located there, but you must declare which one you are facing when you make the roll.

Zandala 1

Zandala perched down low, balance a little off but she kept her gaze on the forest ahead of them. She’d been out on a walk with Kanika for the day; not too far from their village but far enough that if any of her sisters caught them she would be in trouble with the matrons. Not too much trouble, but she would get a good scolding. Still, she’d heard noises and ventured further. What could it possibly be? She knew she had to be careful with Kanika around, but if there was trouble Zandala wanted to make sure the sisters were well prepared.

Kanika 1

Everything had started out so well, Kanika had gone out with Zandala and even been allowed to perch atop her shoulders. Her mother was one of the tallest Alkidikes in the village and so she could see so far she’d been having fun. Zandala had warned her about branches and she avoided them easily enough, still she could reach up into the trees if she wanted and it was amazing.

And then her mother heard something and told her to hold on. Kanika would not hinder her mother and so did as she was told, her eyes looked about but saw nothing yet.

Zandala 2

“Stay quiet,” Zandala whispered. She gently grabbed Kanika and took her off of her shoulders it would do them no good if they got caught in a fight and Kanika was on her shoulders. This way if anything happened to her daughter, Zandala could hold off the attackers while she ran back to camp to get them some aide. Then again, Zandala thought she might be making a big deal out of something small… But her gut told her this was different. There were creature noises, Tintural if her memory served right. And whatever was causing it to make that noise couldn’t be pretty.

Kanika 2

Kanika nodded, she ahd no plans on interrupting her mother or misbehaving. She hated the noise they were hearing, her mother still seemed pretty calm so Kanika didn’t panic just yet. Still as soon as her feet had touched the ground she’d taken cover behind her mother. She hugged Zandala close, she knew like this her mother would know exactly where she was and wouldn’t trip over her if they had to run. It also made sure that she was covered and could run if something came at them. If she would have been older she would have fought but she was still too young.

Zandala 3

Zandala crouched low before moving again, this time carefully to not make much noise. She was following the sound of the tintural and the closer they got the more Zandala got the feeling that the creature was in distress. Finally, when they she felt they were just right next to the familiar she rose just a touch above the bush. There in some sort of makeshift cage was a tintural seemingly calling for help. Zandala relaxed, maybe one of her sisters had caught it or some Yaelian was out hunting for a familiar. That was until she spotted a Shifter walking towards the cage. Zandala’s eye grew big.

Kanika 3

Kanika paused behind her mother and then got just a touch curious. She only had to straighten up a bit before she saw the tintural in the cage and then… Someone walked towards it. Kanika had never seen anyone like them before; she was curious and leaned forward but was stopped by Zandala who shook her head. She’d seen the Yaelians from far before, but another race? From the main land… She had not. Kanika grew excited but her mother’s expression had switched to aggression. Bad people, she had to remember what her mothers had taught her. This was not a good person.

Zandala 4

“Stay here Kanika. This is not safe and I don’t want them to see you. If anything happens you run right back home.” Zandala waited until her daughters head shook before she got her bow. She wished Lumikani could be with her, to protect their daughter but she had to trust the Elaria would take care of herself. Straightening herself out to her full height, Zandala stepped into the small opening away from the bush.

“I didn’t think I’d be seeing any Shifters here for a very long time.” She narrowed her eyes at him, he was not taking that tintural.

Kanika 4

“Woah there I don’t mean any harm,” Kanika watched the shifter stick his hands out. He only had a sword which meant her mother had advantage on him. She’d shoot him down before he even reached for his sword. Kanika smiled, her mom would be fine. She was a fine warrior after all!

“This doesn’t have to turn into a bad situation.” Kanika shook her head, even she could tell he was reaching for that sword, he was dumb if he thought he could outsmart her mother! Ha. Kanika was still looking forward to the day where she could go to the main land and show them all how it was done.

Zandala 5

Zandala’s hand was grabbing for one of her arrows and then aiming the knocked arrow at the Shifter as soon as she saw him moving for that sword.

“I would not recommend that course of action Shifter,” Zandala almost spat out. “I highly suggest you leave the tintural behind and move on back to the main land. You are not welcomed here.” She eyed him, waiting to see what he would do next. He didn’t have much of a choice since she already had her bow aimed at him. Kanika would be safe once he was gone far from this land.

Kanika 5

“Alright alright,” the Shifter raised his hands up again and then slowly got down to grab his bag before taking it and walking backwards into the woods. Kanika watched him go and then watched her mother. She would not come out until she was told it would be okay. Her mother stood there in silence for what seemed like hours though until Kanika was finally called over.

“So that’s what a Shifter looks like?” They did resemble the moon. Her mothers had told her their skin shifted with the moon itself. Kanika felt it was an appropriate interpretation of the Shifters.

Zandala 6

“Yes that was a Shifter,” Zandala put away her arrow but kept her bow close at hand. She didn’t think the Shifter would return, but if he did she would shoot him down without hesitation this time. She would have been didn’t want to cause a commotion nor did she want to tell the elders who she’d killed a Shifter with Kanika around. Definitely more trouble than it was worth.

“Help me undo this cage,” Zandala handed a small knife to Kanika with she worked on opening the door and letting the beast out. She also didn’t want the cage t o be used again.

Kanika 6

“Kanika ran over and took the knife from her mother before she started working on cutting the cage apart. She watched the tintural exit the cage before her mother got started on the cage as well. Together it didn’t take long for the cage to be completely taken down. Then Zandala asked her to help her throw away the pieces of wood and Kanika followed her instructions.

“Why do we have to do this?” She asked curiously, because really they could just go around and find the pieces again. It wasn’t like they were going out of their way to spread them apart.

Zandala 7

“Because it’ll take time and work to put it back together.” It would deter anyone from redoing it speedily at least. Once they were done, Zandala, grabbed Kanika and put her up on her shoulders again.

“Alright let’s go home,” then she paused and added, “Don’t tell your mother about this or anyone else for that matter. We’d get into a lot of trouble.” Mainly she would but she also didn’t want to worry the elders or Lumikani. “That includes your sister.” If she didn’t specify it she knew Kanika would tell her.

Well, this walk had certainly been a lot more interesting than she’d expected.
