Melody waited by the gate with what appeared to be a picnic basket in tow. She was dressed in a simple print baby blue sun dress with matching ribbons in her hair and shoes that seemed more appropriate than her usual for trekking around for a while. Just probably not through swampy jungle forests. She doesn't really have any shoes for that.
She gave off a light citronella and lemony scent, she was certain even here mosquito's likely lurked for anything with blood to pass by. At least it was an all-natural blend that smelled surprisingly pleasant.
She wasn't sure exactly where Lawrence had in mind for exploring today, so there were a few extras she had carefully tucked away in the basket. There was a yellow sun hat with bright blue flowers resting atop the basket.

Lawrence showed up after a short time, dressed as always stubbornly all in white. His clothing was clearly more walking friendly than the expensive shirts and neat trousers he typically wore but was nevertheless brilliantly white. He looked like a wealthy gentleman going to the golf or on safari with the exception of his coat flowing behind him as he went.
"My dear lady." he said with a smile and a polite bow. "Ready for a walk? We should take it at a stately pace I think, enjoy the day without stress or hurry. Living on a tropical island does have its perks at times."

Melody carefully turned her basket so she could curtsy as properly as she could with one hand partially full, grasping her skirt around the handle. She offered him her hand, barren of any gloves for once. "So polite," she smiled with approval. "You even arrived early, simple manners which seem rare on this island."
She bobbed her head, "Indeed it does. I am curious to see more of it without wandering clueless and aimless." She looked at him curiously, "Any specific location in mind first?"

Her hand was taken and kissed in a formal fashion.
"Manners are such an important part of maintaining a civilised society, something unfortunately few people on this island want to maintain." he smiled, gesturing along the island. "You are a breath of fresh air."
"If you would indulge me, there is a little ocean cave just along the coast I would like to visit. A little getaway by the sea. And then we can move along to the very scenic waterfalls."

Melody smiled brightly. "I am actually quite fond of caves. Not... not that I would want to live in one. Still, who knows what kind of precious substances you may run into." She was too embarrassed to admit she was essentially living in a cave really. The basement mostly dark and made of cool damp stone.
"This island for all of its humidity and warmth, is still an island and I was wondering where such beautiful sights were hiding from me." She sighed carefully, hoping to calm her excitement. "I thank you."

"This one isn't too impressive." he said. "But I am rather fond of it for its quaintness."
And turning he led the way without hurry or stress through the comfortable day, it was not too clammy nor too hot and it was good weather for walking. Lawrence moved with a surprising nimbleness and lightness when it came to it, looking for the least obstructed path for his companion.
When they came across the little cave by the sea, he led the way into it, soft sheltered sand sloping off to the salt water beyond. The water echoed like voices in strange harmonics. The water had washed away the blood long ago but his pulse picked up just a little at the memory of how wonderful it had been to take surgery out here, to carve the human body like art in the grasp of the nature that had forged it.
His eyes were bright and keen and he smiled. "I used to sit here for hours and listen to the water." he said

Melody followed quite leisurely. Turning her head this way and that to take in the tropical scenery before returning her attention ahead to Lawrence, smiling at him and then making sure she is watching where she is going. She may have lingered once or twice, stopping to ask him about unusual flora - and thankfully not fauna. She wondered about the lack thereof sometimes but did not really care enough to ask. Not right now anyway.
She followed him into the cave without the slightest hesitation; all traces of what might of happened, how or why, no longer present. The sometimes roaring but mostly soft clatter of echoed waves the first thing of note. She drew a slow deep breath and exhaled. She could see why. "I love the sound of moving water. Rain in particular is a favorite... but I think I can make an exception for this."
She placed a hand on a cool clammy wall and turned her head curiously to him, "How deep does it go?"

“Probably deep.” Lawrence mused. “I have never ventured too far, I feel like this place could be dangerous if underestimated. We shouldn’t linger too long” He looked out to the sound of the ocean distantly for a moment before turning and leaving the cave back into the sunlight, taking a deep breath to try and clear his head of all of the blood and temptation. She had lovely hands after all. “Come come.” He said sweet and sing song. “Lets go up by the cliffs.”
He was more than happy as they went to talk about what he knew about the plants, finally adding that the animals and insects avoided this place because of some sort of lingering toxicity inherent on the island, telling her about the fog and how at one point from what he could tell the whole island had been covered in thick fog. “Our shields protect us.” He explained as they crossed below the path which led up into the higher cliffs.
“Lets not go up that way.” He said, “A very dangerous and unpredictable hunter hangs around up there at times, I would rather not cross him.” And that sweet smile again. “I jokingly flirt with his husband sometimes for a laugh and he is too crazy to comprehend a joke. Individuals with our degree of poise and class should take another route.” He extended a perfectly manicured hand to help her over some of the steep rocks as they wound up along a stream towards the waterfall at the mountain.
“So where do you come from?” he asked. “If it is not rude to pry.”

Melody pondered his warning thoughtfully and had considered that the tide does appear to pull in at this location. She noted the sand sloped in such a way it seemed smoothed by nature with care. She decided she did not wish to drown by exploring a cave and becoming lost deep within its bowels... but that didn't mean she couldn't let her mind wander through all the possible treasures that were sucked in by shifting tides.
Melody listened attentively the entire way. Lawrence clearly knew his subject matter and she felt at ease to engage with various follow up questions until her mind was abuzz with fresh knowledge of the island that was now her home.
As they crossed the path she'd considered it a moment. It wasn't that long ago that there seemed to be a disagreement over Twitter regarding cliff possession. It left two options, but then the 'he' and 'husband' narrowed the options substantially. "William?" she asked. It was what Twitter primarily stated his name as, she was sure. "If so he seems so violent. Always threatening to harm people. I wonder why he feels the need to chase everyone off like that, like a barking dog." She didn't really seek an answer to that question in particular, certain if he could hear them he might come flying down to bark in person.
She allowed herself to be assisted, actually admiring his nails for a moment. It must have been so much work and self restraint to keep his nails to such a degree. She wanted to compliment his hard work, but felt perhaps now wasn't the best time.
"Not rude at all," she smiled brightly at him. "I'm from Louisiana," she seemed both proud yet anxious to admit that fact about herself. She was generally wide open and all too pleased to share herself, even if it left her vulnerable to attack. Not, that she felt Lawr would attack. "What about you? Where are you from? What was your home like?"
Her cheeks flushed lightly, "Of course, only if you want to answer."
She took the hat off her basket and placed it upon her head, "Are you hungry? A waterfall feels like the perfect spot for a picnic."

"Yes, William." Lawrence had replied. "He is just a little unhinged frankly, not worth dealing with."
He seemed pleased to hear she was from Louisiana. "Lovely!" he said. "I've only been there fleetingly, passing through on the way to other places, I spent most of my time in Florida." he smiled and exaggerated his accent slightly into Jan's emphatic and somewhat unbelievable twang. "Jan, pet psychic and personal spiritual medium." He inclined his head in a slight bow before resuming his cordial tone. "I am still capable of giving card readings and all the things I used to do, just with less theatrics. If you ever want to know your future, I am your man."
He did not mention his home life at all, but it seemed less evasive and more due to his enthusiasm about getting to talk about his work as a psychic.

Melody nodded in agreement, though she felt bad for it. Deep down. She didn't believe in writing anyone off based on rumors or word of mouth. If she did then she'd be the sort of person she despised. The sort of person who bullied her as a child. At least most of that nod was based on the behavior she had experienced through Twitter thus far, but in person still needed to be seen, despite the warning.
The change in subject was cheerily welcomed, "Have you ever been through New Orleans? There's so much more freedom of expression there, compared to most places I've been." She did give him a strange look for his accent. Something just did not seem quite right about it, but she chalked it up to a combination of accents and possibly a strong desire to fit in where he was staying. Nothing was wrong with either of those things. The strange look was quickly wiped from her face and replaced with a bright smile.
"A psychic?!" Her tone sounded genuinely surprised. "You.. you can do that? Really? Not just pets though, right? Why pets?" Excited was an understatement as questions poured forth. This was, after all, a young girl whom believed in such things as spirits and voodoo.
"I would love a reading."

"Only ever passed though New Orleans once or twice, visiting clients and so on, it was quite the drive." he brightened. "And oh yes, I can. Pets were simply more lucrative, and I was also a little distressed when people didn't get the results they wanted with actual people. Animals were much easier, and with my experience as a vet, I could subtly nudge them in the right direction in terms of caring for their present animals also."
"Well." he said regarding the cards "Let's see if we can do you one. Right now." He fished in his pockets and brought out a card case which looked like it had seen no small amount of trauma but was still watertight, it may or may not have had a bloodstain on the bottom of it. He opened it and produced the cards, sitting down on a fallen tree to shuffle them one handed and then fan them out like a card shark for Melody to choose, he bid her choose three and then set the rest of the cards aside, examining the three which had been drawn, turning them over one at a time.
"The Past." he said thoughtfully, flipping the first card, it showed a man holding a bow with two set into the ground in front of him, he was cloaked and hooded with a tree unfurled behind him. "The three of wands." Lawrence explained. "Reversed." Further explanation of it being upside down.
"This card in this way represents frustration. You tried to grow as a person and to pursue your own plans but you've not managed it, there have been delays, blockages in your path, a lot of frustration. But this is a card which says that going forward these setbacks have been important. You need to learn to be realistic about your plans, make them smaller. Make them less risky. Think before you go forward." he shrugged. "I don't know you well enough my lovely lady to tell if this is relevant to you, but I will proceed."
"The Present" he said, and the next card was turned. "The nine of pentacles." He explained, the card showed a figure holding a torque and a twisted snake seated before a set of nine standing stones. "This card is not reversed. It means that you are feeling self confident and sufficient in your own actions. You've made a decision and choice and have succeeded, you can enjoy money, leisure time and rest. This card is telling you to enjoy what you have, to relax but it is also telling you that you aren't there yet, you haven't reached where you want to be. There's more left for you to do. Don't get too caught up in the luxuries and forget whatever goals you might have."
"And the last, the Future." and this card he raised a brow slightly at. "One of the major arcana. Number zero in fact. He is reversed as you can see." The card showed a figue on the edge of a cliff seemingly unconcerned about the fact that they are about to walk off into a gulley.
"This card says that in future you might run into problems if you continue to live in the moment and disregard plans. You will act recklessly and want to break free of what other people say you should reasonably do. It warns against making deals or being taken advantage of, it warns about challenges ahead. Be wary of your pride because your need to feel that you are competent at your job, that you aren't a newbie might lead you to make bad choices." he smiled slightly, always a little bitter about the way the cards seemed to work against him.
"An interesting hand." he said, stowing the cards away. "I look forward to seeing if any of them are true."
