Harvard was not a man prone to physical exercise for the joy of it. He exercised to keep in shape, and because he was slightly vain about keeping a good physique. Before Deus, he had been accustomed to a morning run, usually ending in coffee. However, on the island, he found himself on the fields most often in mid-morning. Losing himself in work until late was playing havoc with his previously set schedule. Well, he thought, the zombies had played havoc with it before. He would adjust.

And this was why he was angrily jabbing away at a wooden dummy at dawn o'clock in the damn morning. No coffee, minimal sleep, and a scruffy beard that was becoming too long for his liking. Miserere had been plaintively singing in Latin even Harvard unequivocally told him to cut it the ******** out, and now lay quiet in his mind.

He sighed and a particularly vicious downward swing (Miserere luckily had a cutting edge as well as a point) set a chunk of wood flying through the air. Idly, he turned, shading his eyes with one hand to see how far it would fly. Harvard had not considered the possibility it might hit someone.

Otto hated mornings. He did not care to partake in them often. However, he'd been kept awake by unhappy dreams, and a restless mind. So onward he'd dragged himself into the brisk air of dawn, sleepily shuffling through the maze of dummies. Maybe the early morning air would wake him up.

Or maybe a flying chunk of shrapnel would.

He'd not been expecting anything to fly at him. Not an arm, a weapon. Nata. Yet there he was, and there it was. Otto yelped as the wood slammed into his face, ricocheting off of him and clattering to the earth below.

Otto winced, clutching the scrape to his forehead. His patience so early in the morn was minimal at best. Now he wasn't just grumpy, he was pissed.

Menacing blue eyes lifted to find the perpetrator responsible for his horrid start to the day.

Ah. Wasn't that a spectacular arc, he thought to himself. It seemed to sparkle just so before hitting a young man squarely in the head. Oops. Harvard waved and then turned back to poke at the dummy with his sword again.

"The ********, dude!?" Otto growled out at the nonchalance of the man ahead of him. "Ain't even gunna say yer sorry? You got any manners or what??"

Harvard groaned silently. All he wanted to do was continue his self-imposed early morning torture and then get some food. He turned back towards Otto, arms crossed and Miserere dangling from his fingers.

"My wave was apologetic. You didn't see?" The morning was not for words. "You weren't hurt, were you?" At this point, he was sleep-deprived enough to not care, but it was common courtesy. Or something.

"Hurt? By your ******** flying wood missile? Naw, no. Why would I be?" His cut was hardly worth healing too quickly. It was a funny thing with shields. A blow like that to a normal human might have left a gash. All Otto had to complain about was a startling wake up call and something about the size of a paper cut.

But he was upset. Not necessarily at this man he didn't know. But he was pissed, and wanted revenge. Otto summoned Tenya, and using all six feet of her metallic boomerang greatness, swung and hit a dummy.

Said dummy flew from it's post, like an adult playing T-Ball, straight at Harvard.

Harvard wondered if this kid went through his entire life being so grumpy. It was likely, he decided. Very ******** likely, judging from the way he flung his weapon around. Harvard flopped tot eh ground in record time, feeling splinters rain down on him as the dummy flew past. What a waste of a dummy.

He picked himself back up and carefully dusted off. "Feeling energetic this morning, are you?" He gestured with the point of his sword.

"You call this energetic?" He quipped back with a great frown, shouldering Tenya and giving the man a haughty stare down. "Feelin' pissed off is more like it." And he wanted to take it out on a real face, not a wooden one.

He could feel one of his eyebrows arching. "Well, anger is energy," he said calmly. And his soon-to-be opponent certainly had a lot of that. Harvard wasn't old yet, but the kind made him feel tired. Carrying around anger, or any sort of truly strong emotion was tiring.

"Let's work some of that out," Harvard smirked and whipped his sword forward to nick Otto's shoulder. "I'm Dr. Falls, by the way, You?"

Otto winced and stepped back from his taunting attack, leveling out Tenya in preparation for a spar. "Doctor?" He chided, "Tch. Whatever.. My name's Otto."

And with that, he swung at the man.

"Yes, I have a PhD, did you want to see it?" An unfortunate impossibility - his degree now lay in the ruins of what was Delta. Perhaps one day he could find it, dust it off... a silly little thought for a silly morning. Besides, Harvard was pretty sure Otto didn't care at all about such things, but still.

He felt Tenya slide along his arm and moved with it, extending himself into a quick stop-thrust. "Otto, I even offer private lessons." He didn't, of course, but he doubted Otto was a student of anything, really.

"No." He grumbled. He didn't give two shits about some a*****e's ability to read books and take tests, or whatever else a doctor had to do to get a fancy piece of paper.

Otto held back from making another noise, even though this hit hurt a little more than the last. The worst outcome was getting beaten by a man still in training boots. His own status as a Fully Realized Hunter was in writing only. His power was halved. But his wounded pride was...

"Private lessons in what? Wood hucking?" He growled back, trying to swing with very little space to do it with.

Otto's main advantage was range and if he didn't have that... "No, I didn't think you would be interested in seeing." Harvard crowded close, acknowledging the short blow to his shield without letting it affect him. The tip of Miserere danced along Otto's arm, trying to weaken his weapon-wielding.

"I'm linguist. So, you could say that I'd be able to instruct you in matters of the mouth, a desperate need for you, I'm sure." He would let Otto decide what 'matters of the mouth' could possibly mean.

"Matters of the what?" He asked with a look of horror dawning over him. Was this man some deranged sex professor from a porno?! Gross! Irritated by this and the painful gashes he was receiving from close range combat, Otto skipped back a few steps to try and gain some distance.

With some distance gained, he rounded Tenya around one full spin before slamming it down toward the Doctor's shoulder.

The reaction was better than expected - it certainly made up for the painful solid thud of Otto's boomerang. "A linguist, Otto - what exactly is it that you think I do?" Harvard moved again, Miserere's blade gleaming wetly in a glissade over the boomerang before he slashed out.

The smell of corrosion tinted the air and droplets of acid clung, glistening, to the fine silver blade.
