Manicured Skyline

It was a lovely landscape. Meticulously picked and crafted which made sense as each piece was fought over till the bidder placed their jewel of a establishment along the beach's long stretch.

The view was breathtaking, and he drank slowly in the view of the massive windows taking up large portions of their wall. "Jesus, this place." He said, walking around the length of the hotel. A hotel he brought Jan to, an hotel he picked, and one Melvin had been very up front he brought Jan too for many reasons. A few he wasn't sure Jan would get.

It wasn't the largest high-rise and even one day was going to leave him very much waiting till next month's pay day, but the view spoke for the price tag. It wasn't the tallest and most expensive, but he doubted that even getting a room above a boiler would be bad considering how gorgeous everything looked.

"Puts our island to shame. I guess if someone threw billions of dollars at it, it wouldn't be as bad."

Luxury was where he thrived the most and Lawrence was always happy to indulge in it. Melvin's choice of location sat very well with him, admiring the view intently.

"They could afford to." he said. "The island could earn enormous amounts of money if they turned their mind to it. I saw a future once, in a strange dream where that was the case." he did not mention that it had involved him in charge of the whole island and taking advantage of weapon technology for all of the advantages it offered.

"But this will do for now I think." and he moved closer, putting his arm around Melvin's waist and leaning in close. "I think we could both use the break."

Sailing Away

The water was warm and wonderful, and he squeezed the handles as he moved over the water, the jetski humming underneath them. "This is great, right?" He called over his shoulder, looking over at his date.

He leaned back into the embrace, moving his head back and looking over at him as he placed his hands over Jan's one. "I'm glad I can share this with you. I don't think I'd want to visit half these places alone. Do you want to go to a restaurant or try the drop end pool on the terrace?" His eyes wandered. "There should be champagne here somewhere."

Sailing Away

He hated water. Hated it. Mostly water of the salty and open sort, the kind that he was convinced would one day be the death of him. He could swim very well but without any body fat to lend buoyancy to him he tired very quickly indeed. So far he'd managed to swim his way out of trouble several times, the first at wonder park, the second on the ill-fated cruise and the last when he was thrown from an exploding lighthouse into the ocean. He didn't want to keep pushing the odds.

This was why Melvin found himself being very very tighly held onto on the jetski, Lawrence giving the water a sort of frantic stare before smiling in as pleased a way as he could manage.

"So much fun!" he said.

"Anything you like." Lawrence replied with a lazy smile. "Perhaps we should stay here a while to get settled in before venturing back into the big wide world." He gave the other man a very tender kiss on the cheek and his smile broadened somewhat. "No doubt high quality champagne."

"I don't think I should drink." he said idly. "Bit of a lightweight frankly."

Acceptable Water

Crossing his arms atop the glass and looking out over the skyscraper littered horizon Lawrence exhaled. This was where he belonged, at the top of the world in a penthouse suite looking down upon everyone else. He was meant to be in this world of scamming and business, of outwitting the system and working around rules but instead he was trapped on an island which did not adhere in the slightest to any of the rules he'd spent so long teaching himself to neatly navigate.

He constantly found himself at square one but never fully free of what had gone before, like a record constantly skipping but never restarting or moving on.

Resting his chin on his folded arms he said aloud.

"You know I wish that we never had to go back, that we could just leave, maybe set Rodney free while we are at it. My old house wasn't this fancy but it was good. I had a lot of money and I never even got to spend it."

Sailing Away

he smiled reassuringly back at him, not at all against Jan holding him tightly.

"Don't worry. I'll take it easy." He revels up the motor and started heading them down the coast, the shore and other little boats moving past on either side while the water rushed past them. It was nice to drive anything, even a jet ski.

"We should rent a sport car sometime." He called back. "See a movie - wow this view is amazing."

Manicured Skyline

He moved alongside him, letting his hands move about Jan's side as he moved to the kitchen, spotting the sterling the silver ice bucket and taking out the champagne, looking for glasses in the counter.

"Come on. I can't be the only one enjoying this and we can't let a whole bottle go to waste. Just have a little with me." He said, finding the champagne flutes and setting them down.

He then turned the bottle to the side to try and figure how to open it before pulling off the gold-leaf seal. After a moment, a loud pop came as the top bounced off to the far kitchen wall. Pouring, he filled up the two glasses quickly.
He moved over to offer him one.

"Should we toast to anything or just being alive and here together?"

Acceptable Water

He floated slowly on his back, looking up at the sky, clear with a warm sun. Jan's voice flavored with him and he breathed out, body slightly dipping in the water before he inhaled. Maybe he could get a tan.

"It would be nice to go back. I miss being mundane. To turn on the tv and being able to watch anything and order anything and have people outside the island call your name. We could actually make friends outside of our little world." Or none at all.

"What would you do if you could go back? Be a vet again?"

Then he wondered.

"What about your son?"

Acceptable Water

Lawrence flinched at the mention of being a vet again. He had enjoyed the job, mending animals who couldn't speak or complain and whose grateful owners placed him in their confidence and treated as if he was more than the hollowness he felt. It was an excerpt from a life that he failed. "I couldn't be a vet again." he said. "Lawrence Weiman is dead and so by extension are all of the diplomas and qualifications he ever earned." It was why he was always so touchy about being called doctor in any capacity, it was like someone was trying to resurrect the dead when he didn't wasn't to bring them back.

What about your son?

It always came back to the boy, people always wanted to remind him about what he owed him just because he'd played some part in him coming into being.

"Mikael?" he said. "I don't understand what I am supposed to be to him. It took about ten minutes to create him, hardly an effort. And then before I was permitted to raise him he was stolen away."

He sighed shallowly. "You know, there was some time when I stayed. I lingered in the house after they were gone and I wanted so badly to simply find her, to apologise for what had happened. I wanted to fight to get him back, or at least access to him. But I knew that she'd go to the police, I knew it was over and I had failed." He didn't comment that he'd also wanted to kill her, that more than anything else he'd wanted to kill Maja so she could never leave him, so she would stay forever. He thought he could take the boy and run if he did, he could keep part of her close and within his control.

"She wanted a divorce, she wanted Mikael. He's still hers, he even goes by her maiden name."

"That sounds as good a toast as any." he said, resigned to the alcohol despite his better judgement.

He held up the glass with a fond smile.

"To being alive."

Ownership

Lawr straddled Melvin's lap and smirked as he leaned his light weight against him. "I feel better with you with me, protecting me."

He smirked, tipsy, too tipsy. He was a lightweight and he knew it and yet here he was.

<>

"You won't ever leave me will you?" followed by a trail of pleading kisses up to Melvin's jawline.

<<I'm a good boy.>>
"I'm a good boy." he said aloud, Butch bleeding into his words without even realising it had happened at all, finding it so much easier to lean into the urgings of the weapon when he was tipsy.

"And you'll stay with me for ever."

Acceptable Water

The water rippled as he swam up slowly beside him, placing his arms over the glass edge. "You sound like you had a messy relationship with her, but you still wanted to be there. I'm sorry things didn't turn out better. I just thought with how you seem to watch over him now, you'd want to watch over him still if you left."

He looked out to the ocean and towering buildings all around them. "I never gave family much thought. I was in college so it just wasn't a thought I thought I needed to address till later in life - even if my relatives would ask. I think they were still tiptoeing because of Mia."

"So...what would you want to do if you could do anything? What new name life?"

Ownership

Atop cushions and high thread counts, nothing felt as luxurious as Jan atop him, and he felt richer for the kisses sorting his face that made him laugh at the affectionate pecking.

Holding Jan's head in both hands, he presses his kisses back, dragging his hands down his neck and back. "Ill stay for as long as you will let me. Forever and more." He turned his head, kissing against his neck and collarbone to his chest. The champagne hadn't been as strong as what he usually drank but it was a rather big bottle. It made him feel as light as the bubbles and warm as the sun pulled deep oranges across the room.

"Will you let me stay forever with you?"
