20 years.

The amount of time felt like a weight in her chest. It had been 20 years since she had been here, since she had walked the halls of this place. It was like time had frozen here, like nothing had changed, like those 20 years never happened.

But Sonnet knew better. Those years did happen outside of these walls. So much had changed. So much happened in the span of two decades.

As her steps echoed down the hallways she began to have second thoughts. Perhaps this was a bad idea. Perhaps Cedric was right, and nothing good could ever come from this place. Perhaps coming back was a mistake. Sonnet sighed and shook her head, trying her best to banish these thoughts from her mind. No. As soon as she heard that the gates were once again opened she felt a tugging inside of her to return, even if it was for a little bit. She didn't know why. Did she crave companionship of her own kind? Or was she hoping for closure, for answers why she had been left alone for so long by people she once held so dearly to her?

Whatever the reason, she was here now, and now she had to go through with her choice, and the first step she had to take in doing so was meeting the new headmaster that so many people spoke of when word spread out about the Sanctuary's opening.

Rhun.

The name rang no bells for Sonnet. If he was around when she was she hadn't had the pleasure of meeting anyone with that name. She had called in earlier as to not come by unannounced and spoke to a female, Delilah. That was a name she knew, but only in passing, as she had never had the chance to meet her when the place was running prior. The call was short and simple, and Sonnet was told that Rhun would be here at around this time to meet with her.

Now she just had to figure out where he was.

Rhun had quite a bit on his mind lately, but that didn't stop him from doing the job he was needed for. Delilah had messaged him that he needed to take over greeting for a while as she sorted herself out. A request he was willing to give her in the recent circumstances, simply complying and not questioning it. He sat at the front desk, typing at the computer for a moment. Leaning back in the chair, he sighed, and glanced at the time. Moving his gaze to the sticky note on the desk Meeting with inbound return at noon, was written on the note. It was almost about that time. He thought about going to the gate to greet them, but maybe that was a bit much. He leaned forward in his chair and pulled some papers together and placed them into the clipboard in preparation for who was coming. "..inbound return, huh?.." he couldn't help but chuckle. "...she sounds like my mother.." he commented to himself and then closed his eyes for a moment. "I wonder who it is..." as the thought lingered, he couldn't think of who it could have been, maybe someone he knew, maybe not so much. There were too many possibilities, so he figured he'd just have to see.

Maybe the front desk Sonnet thought to herself as she decided where to go. She wasn't really told where to meet this Rhun fellow, just the building itself. If anything she hoped there would be a directory she could look at to see if she could find where his office was and see if he was there.

However as she opened the door she realized there was no need for a map as someone was sitting right there at the desk. She narrowed her eyes for a moment to get a better look at him, and a name flashed in her mind, as it often did when she focused on someone.

However, Rhun wasn't the name she got.

Sonnet blinked a couple of times. Perhaps this was some sort of joke, or a disruption of her abilities? No, now wasn't the time to question things, even though now she REALLY wanted to.

"Hello," she said with a small smile as she moved closer to the front desk. "I'm here to speak to Rhun about my return to the grounds? My name's Sonnet Whyspe" she said pleasantly.

As a female voice broke the silence, he glanced up to see her face, a rush of emotions beneath the surface, a hesitation as he blinked in surprise for just a brief moment. He cleared his throat quickly, shaking the feeling as best he could. Rhun came to a stand and smiled gently. "Hello there. I am Headmaster Rhun and I own Metamorphose Sanctuary." he greeted, keeping his soft gaze on her. "We've been expecting you." he broke his gaze on her, snapping back to what he was supposed to be doing. Grabbing the clipboard, he held it out to her. "We just need a bit of information, such as your name, if anyone will be coming to live with you, and if you will require any special accommodations." Rhun explained, trying his best not to stare too much at her. "After that, I can set you up with a home to live here."

Sonnet nodded and took the item that was being held out to her. Without really thinking, she plucked a feather from her wing and sat the board on the desk so she had something sturdy to write against. The feather, now a functioning pen, was used to fill out all the questions and blanks and during so, Sonnet made no attempt at conversation, though she did glance up at the headmaster every now and then to get a quick glance at his reaction. Weren't expecting me were you? she thought with slight amusement.

She finished filling everything in and handed the clipboard back to the masked man. "There you are Headmaster," she said with a nod. "I do have a brother but he doesn't seem very interested in returning at the moment, but I am sure he'd prefer his own home if he came back so there shouldn't be an issue."

He watched her, her movements, her tone of voice. It was so familiar and inviting. He had been thinking a bit too much when she handed back the clipboard and he blinked again. 'quit getting distracted..' he mentally kicked himself as he then looked over the information on the papers. Nodding in agreement, he opened a drawer, placing the clipboard inside and then pulling out a set of keys. "Let me walk you to your new home.." he offered as he closed the drawer then motioned for her to follow him, guiding her out of the building and down the path toward the adult housing. "It's a beautiful day outside.." he spoke calmly through a smile as he tried to make light conversation as they walked.

He did his best to keep his eyes forward, but took a glance to her every now and again. Reading her face and expressions. He wanted to say something to her, but refrained. Maybe it still wasn't a good time. Though, in the mean time, this was nice.

"That would be lovely, thank you," she said with a nod as she followed his lead. She was curious though if he did remember her at all. Well, fondly at least. Part of her hoped so, but another part told her not to hold her breath.

'If either of them cared at all they wouldn't have left me alone for all this time...' she thought to herself bitterly. 'I'm not worth remembering'

She shook her head. Now was not the time for this line of thought. That was for when she was alone in her new house.

"It is a very lovely day," she said, making herself focus on what was going on right now. "I'm looking forward to settling into my new living space."

He could feel his heart beating hard, the built anticipation to say something, anything to her. However, reluctantly shoving aside the idea, knowing he'd probably even regret it later when he thought back on this moment. Wishing he had said something. Yet, his name was known everywhere for not the best reasons. A killer. A murderer. A lot of accusations placed on him that caused him to hide in the first place. Surely she was smart enough to have at least seen his wanted poster around. Even the poster listed everything he was wanted for, so it's not like he could lie about why he was hunted as a criminal. Reflexively letting out a sigh, he nodded in response to her comments. "It's nice here. Nothing like it used to be, but at least it's still standing. Still a place to call home." he suddenly spoke in a calm nature, reflecting on years long passed. "The outside is still being maintenanced, but the insides of the buildings and homes are still very nice. I'm sure you'll love it." he offered, looking to her, staring into her eyes with a gentle smile. She always seemed to put him at ease for some reason, something he had missed over the years of being so far away. He wondered if she had missed him as well, wondered what she had been doing in the years the school was closed, and if how she viewed him now.. was there any chance at redemption with her. Would she ever consider him a friend again? He shook his head of the idea lightly as they walked down the path together. They approached the complex as he led her to the house she'd be staying in and unlocked the door with the key, opening the door and motioning for her to enter.
