Barter and Haggle
Prompt 2

Can be used toward Solo or RP req

Lately, the local market places have been filled with new traders offering their wares. It seem as if many across the land are trying their hand at selling clothing, weapons, and trinkets. With so many new faces, now is the best time to go to the market and barter for the best prices.

So go ahead and grab your goods or grab your gold and take a shot at bartering.

This prompt can be played from either side: your character can be the merchant, or can be looking to purchase an item. Groups can RP with both characters on the same side, or trying to barter with each other.

|| You can also use this opportunity to test out the new Item Crafting system!
|| If you use an item that you have successfully crafted with the new system (you do not need to have customized the item) as the item in your prompt, you will earn 15exp in addition to the versatile point. Please provide a link to the crafting thread in your character's first post.
|| If you choose to craft an item for the event, the attempt must have been done after the prompt opened (February 8th), and all requirements must be complete for it to count.
|| As always, the crafting system is intended for stage 2+. Younglings and prentices will not be able to try for the extra exp.
|| If you choose not to use a crafted item, you will only receive the versatile point credit.

Edathe grabbed a hold of her basket and hugged it close to herself. The sun was bright in her eyes and she tried to focus on what was going on around her. She had gone out to the market, and it was her first time by herself. She wasn’t sure what to make of it yet. She had thought she was ready, but she had always been out with her mother before. Her mother had always been there to actually do the talking, making sure they got the best prices and getting Edathe everything that she wanted, but now that she was alone… she wasn’t sure she could do it.

But she had been the one to push for this. She had wanted to be the one to go out and be a big girl. She wanted some new ribbons for herself to make bracelets from. She had been practicing all week and she wanted some pretty colors to make for her and her brother when he finally came back. She squinted over the sun and looked at the crowded market before her. She was possibly in over her head, and most definitely someone who would get lost in this crowd; she was at least two heads shorter than everyone there, and she was sure she would get swallowed up. She toed through the crowd, trying not to really look at anyone in particular and keeping her head down. She always went to the same stall for her ribbons, she knew where it was just from the many trips her and her mother would take, she barely even had to look at where her feet were taking her.

She felt the anxiety start to creep in the closer she got to the stall and she slowed down. She was so hesitant; she practiced her conversation in her head, inching closer until she was in front of the stall and staring at the ribbons. The vendor cleared their throat, trying to get Edathe’s attention. It only made her stare harder at the ribbons and she felt herself freezing up. ”Can I help you with something miss?” The older woman asked her from behind the stall. She had wild graying hair and it was so familiar to Edathe, but now without her mother it was intimidating. She swallowed hard and tried to open her mouth to speak. ”I… I’d like some ribbon please.” Edathe answered. To be totally honest she hadn’t even looked at the ribbons for sale besides the one she had been staring at to avoid contact with anyone. The woman seemed to look down into Edathe’s soul and she wanted to just run away before she could make a fool out of herself. ”Have you decided which ones you would like?” The old woman asked her. Edathe shook her head in small jerks. ”Why don’t you have a look and tell me what you’d like?” Edathe clutched onto her basket before she shifted her eyes from the older woman to the table. They were all very nice, and so many color. She reached a hand out and gently touched a couple of the rolls of ribbon. Very soft too.

Her eyes caught something else on the table and she stopped her hand in the air over the new item. They were beads. She hadn’t seen beads like this at the stall before. They were so pretty, and glittered in the sun. They were decorated and made of glass and perfect. She lit up, and she turned to look at the lady behind the stall. ”I would like these please” She spoke up, her voice swallowed up in the discord of the market. The older woman smiled to her and nodded her head. ”Are you sure? That’s a fine choice, but wouldn’t you need some ribbon to go with it?” Edathe nodded her head. She had to find ribbon to match the beads, but already she knew which ones would work. She pointed out to two and offered her money to the lady. ”Those two please, and how much is it?” she asked.

The woman bagged the ribbons and beads and held it out over the counter. ”The ribbons are on me.” She named her price for the beads and Edathe was more than happy to oblige. Her face was beaming, her smile stretching from ear to ear as she put the bag in her basket and nearly bounced away from the stall. She would be able to make such pretty things now, she couldn’t wait to show Nuri.
