It wasn’t common, or normal even, for people in Korea to eat out alone and yet that’s what Seung was doing. The good thing, perhaps, was that he wasn’t in Korea - he was in Destiny City. He was sitting in a small little restaurant, a few bags at his feet. He’d already ordered himself food and had just responded to a text from Terry, asking what he was up to, by telling the other where he was.
Drinking alone also wasn’t normal but there was a shot glass and a bottle of soju at the two person table he sat at alone as he waited for his meal. He had mentioned where he was just so Terry knew, not figuring on the other joining him. They did after all have separate lives - they were individual people. Taking a shot he set the glass down and refilled it while turning in his seat to look and see if his food was on the way, it shouldn’t be too long. The sounds and smells of home cooking was nice, though he was learning to like the foods Terry’s mom made and other foods that he experienced with the other male and his family.
The place was nice, filled with people, and even some families with children. It felt normal...it felt like he was back home at the moment. If he looked out the window it was similar as well. But beyond the streets which made up Korea town he knew it wasn’t home. He knew he was in Destiny City and he was ok with it, he had people here even if it was only a few. This city was becoming home with a second home nestled within it.
Another drink, the glass refilled, and he was turning as his food arrived and thanking the waitress. The normal words of formality passing his lips before he grabbed a pair of chopsticks and started in on his food - a meat soup. It was a traditional Korean food and it smelled amazing. With a bowl of rice, kimchi, and dipping sauce put down with the stew Seung reached for the scissors and went to cutting up some of the kimchi in order to grab some of that, rice, and a bit of the meat from his strew to eat. His back to the entrance Seung was enjoying the hot meal.

Terry hadn’t been originally planning on meeting up with Seung that day, and still hadn’t necessarily planned it when he got the text. Instead he was just going to respond by asking how the other’s food was and telling him that he hadn’t been up to much of anything during that point of time. At least that’s what his plan was until he ended up coming across said restaurant that Seung had said he was in. He had gone back to Korea town to continue to find a gift that he had meant to do weeks ago and promptly forgot about when he saw the other go by to the clinic.
He stood outside the door to the restaurant for a few minutes with a thoughtful look before looking down at the bag in his hands and giving a shrug. He hadn’t eaten yet and he could always give his gift to the other now he supposed, provided the other male welcomed company. Decision made, he entered the restaurant and scanned the occupants. Finding the familiar blond with his back turned to him he walked over to him until he was standing behind the other. He waited until Seung was not drinking or eating before he spoke up though so he wouldn’t choke. “Well I didn’t mean to run into you today but this works out well.” He said with a smile that the other couldn’t see.

He had felt someone behind him and figured it was a waitress, and he waited to see what they wanted. What he wasn’t expecting was to hear not only English but a very familiar voice. Turning his head, dark eyes wide, he stared for a moment. “Terry.” Greeting with a smile and a bow of his head. “That is fine, join me?” He questioned as he motioned to the table and his meal and drink, soju bottle and filled shot glass. “Can order what you want.” He’d translate, since this place didn’t have an english menu or any english words on the menu. It was very traditional with the food and didn’t adapt the menu to non-native people despite being in America.
A glance to the others bag, a curious raising of a brow, before he smiled. “Shopping here.” He said somewhat surprised. The other hadn’t ever been shopping in Korea town to his knowledge. Terry didn’t seem the sort of have a reason to - till now he supposed. He figured that the other might spend some time here now due to his boyfriend and such.

Terry was glad that Seung wasn’t annoyed with his intrusion and had indeed invited him to join him. “Sure if you don’t mind.” He nodded then joined him at the table. “Any recommendations?” He asked, not sure what kind of food was found here beyond the soup that his boyfriend was eating. It looked good and he would be fine trying different things but he was curious what the other would recommend if anything. At the mention of the bag he glance down then back up before giving a shy smile. “Sort of. It’s actually a gift for you so when you texted to say you were nearby I figured I could always give it to you now.” In the end he had to ask the nice lady who ran the shop what a nice gift would be but he hoped that Seung liked it just the same.

“All similar...different styles.” He answered while pointing to the menu and each picture. Doing his best to translate each. He pointed out which one he had before deciding to gather some up onto his soup spoon, filling it with some rice he gathered with his chopsticks. He offered the mouthful to the other. “Try.”
Tilting his head, curious, his eyes flickered from Terry to the bag and back to Terry.” Already got me surprise - Yeong.” He said referring to the Jindo pup who had been welcomed into his home. He had been a bit surprised by his parents acceptance but they wouldn’t turn away a Jindo dog they’d said.
“Can have what I have...or different.” He said going over the rest of the ones on the menu, stopping to take a drink and set his glass down.

Terry made sure to pay attention as Seung pointed out the different types of soup. To him some sounded better than others but that was usual for any restaurant. When the other offered up a bit to try he shrugged and tried it, used to sharing food like this by now. “It’s pretty good, I might just go with that.” He said when he was finished.
At the mention of the pup, Terry gave a smile. “Yes I did but I had been planning on getting something for you before him so you get both.” He was not afraid to give gifts, nor one to skimp on price, having had been raised with his parents as an example and both were apt to give friends, family, and of course each other little gifts here and there for no reason. For a few years when both Matt and him were younger they even had two parts to their allowance, one for what they wanted and one for gifts. Of course some for the gifts they had bought with said money turned out pretty funny when looked back on. He was still convinced that Grandma had been perfectly happy with the candy though.

Gifts weren’t a huge thing, even for Christmas, in his home though for the Lunar New Year they were more accepted and normal, just not like how American’s were with giving gifts so freely. He wouldn’t turn a gift down though either, he’d just have to find something perfect for Terry - but what?
“I see.” Nodding his head he turned to signal a waitress over, the one who had brought him his food. “You want what I have?” He asked, just to be sure. While speaking his chopsticks went for some kimchi which was offered, with some rice from his own bowl, to Terry. “To drink?” He then asked, wanting to know what he’d be ordering for the other. The idea of a gift still had him curious but he wanted to get him some food first, proper manners and all that. He wasn’t going to let the other continue to sit here without something to eat and without a drink as well.
Once he placed the others order he turned his focus again on the other, as he’d had his attention on the waitress while placing the other. “I can see?” He questioned the other.

Terry nodded at the question with a smile. What Seung was having was pretty good so he was happy with it. “Ah, tea for a drink would work.” He said with a slight shrug. He didn’t quite eye the alcohol that the other was drinking, not very worried when it was just one. When the other once again offered up some on his food, Terry was tempted to turn it down just to make sure the other was eating enough but just decided to make sure and share his own a lot with the other.
He was slightly nervous when Seung asked to see but lifted the bag up enough to pass it over to him. “I had a little help picking it out.” He admitted with a shy smile.

With a small pot of tea ordered, and two cups, he was happy to eat slowly, the others food wouldn’t take long to arrive, and he was ok with putting his chopsticks and spoon down so he could take the bag and open it, wondering just what the other could have gotten him.
Reaching into the bag he pulled out three notebooks. When he pulled them out, wondering why notebooks, he understood when he saw the pictures. A view of home and the next one was paper lanterns and the last one looked like Yeong but older. “Terry.” Smiling softly, putting them back into the bag for now as he didn’t want them to be damaged. “Thank you, they are lovely.” And would remind him of home. He’d be sure that whatever he wrote in them would be important, nothing so frivolous, and that no pages were torn out. He didn’t want to ruin the notebooks in anyway.

Terry had watched as Seung pulled out his gifts and seeing how they were received well he relaxed. “You’re welcome.” He said with a smile. “The nice lady who worked the store helped me pick them out. I knew what I wanted to get you but not which ones.” Well he had been inclined to buy the one with the Jindo dog but beyond that there had been many other notebooks to choose from so she had helped it narrow them down.
His food arrived shortly after along with the tea and cups so he poured the tea into them both and offered up one cup to Seung with a smile.

“I am glad she helped, she did good.” Very good, he liked both other notebooks very much so. They’d be going into a draw at his writing desk and kept safe there, till he decided to use them. He wasn’t going to just write random things into them.
When the food arrived he thanked the waitress bowing his head, and offered Terry a set of chopsticks. “Can use these?” He asked, already prepared to help the other with them. It was, perhaps, time for Terry to learn how to use chopsticks. If they went out to eat enough Terry would wind up needing to learn eventually. Taking one of the cups of tea, thanking the other, he took a sip and nodded his approval - it was good.

“I’m glad.” He said with a nod. He thanked the waitress as well then took the chopsticks. “Okay, how do I use them?” Terry asked, glancing to see how the other was holding his own. There hadn’t been many opportunities to learn how to use chopsticks before he met Seung and even then he had used regular utensils. He shifted them around in his hand, trying to copy Seung but not quite managing it.

Laughing softly he moved from his seat to sit next to the other, rather than across from him. Moving his food to the new side of the table he took the others hands and rearranged his fingers and showed him how to move them. Slowly and gentle he tried to help the other pick up some rice. “Like this.” Maybe that was what he’d get the other? Training chopsticks...he’d had a set as a baby as had his sister and everyone else, it was how they all learned. Would they work or fit the others hands and fingers that were bigger though? He’d have to look. Would Terry use them though? Maybe at home lessons so he wasn’t embarrassed to be seen with them?
“Got it?”

Terry paid close attention to how Seung was showing him how to use them. It felt both weird yet somewhat comfortable with how he was supposed to hold them and he tried to memorize how it felt to move it and to pick up the rice with it. “I think so.” He gave a quick smile when it was over then tried to copy the same motions, this time on his own. It seemed to be going well but the rice slipped by the end. “Guess I’m going to need more than a one time attempt to master this.” He said with a chuckle, not surprised in that fact.

“Yes, lots of work.” And he was going to buy the other a set of children's training chopsticks, he had no doubt in his mind about that. He was going to help him learn how to use them. But till then his hands went back to helping the other pick up rice and make the motions he needed in order to do so. Between helping the other he ate as well, not wanting his food to cool too much. “Will learn in time.” He said hoping to give the other confidence in that, he would learn it would just take time. He would get the other time using them, take him out a lot to places where he’d need them.
