Teacher Personality Contest!

User Image

1. Colored by screamingshark and nepsah 2. Colored by nepsah 3. Colored by nepsah 4. Colored by nepsah

Opens: March 20th
Closes: March 31st, 11:59 PM EST
Judges: nepsah and Yushika

With the influx of new students, all three Universities are looking to hire new teachers! Help them apply for the job of their dreams?

Currently, there are no community college teachers! Grendel has the highest student population (68 ), followed by Leviathan (65). Asterion is the smallest university.

Currently we are not looking for Academy teachers, this event is for University teachers only.

          Off-Limits Classes
          • At this time, we are not allowing duplicate classes (i.e., there is already a cooking class taught by a customer/staff member at Grendel, please do not apply to teach a cooking class at Grendel).
          • However, if a class is taught by an NPC, that is considered an open class.
          • Grendel's Music class is taken, the person running the class is having a stressful IRL situation so we opened a temporary NPC version of it.

Note: We are looking for a basic rough idea of their personality, as well as two example activities for the class you are entering to teach! We cannot give tips that are not readily available as that would give entrants an unfair advantage. Please read the Teachers Handbook for basic information on how to run a class, and what is expected of activities!

          Teacher Races
Since there has been some confusion about what races they are, from 1-4 here are the races:
          • Litch
          • Elf
          • Fey
          • Dryad

          Instructions:
          • Fill out the form below post it in this thread!
          • Due to a lack of judges, we will not be blind judging this contest.
          • At the end of the contest, nepsah or Yushika will quote the winners with the uncerts of their new teachers!

          Rules:
          • This contest is completely free.
          • If you edit your post, please label in red at the top of your post that you've edited something, and the date when.
          • You may enter for more than one character, just please post separate entries in separate posts/PMs.
          • Anyone can enter, whether they are a newbie or not!
          • Staff may not enter this contest!
          • Whining, guilt-tripping, or generally misbehaving over the contest will result in you being disqualified.
          • Make sure you've read the Guide to the Worlds forum in its entirety!
          • You may not proxy for another person.
          • You may not gift or trade prizes from this event.
          • If your entry breaks lore or does not follow instructions, it will be disqualified.

6:27PM :: Tweaked an assignment code

03.21.16 - 6:06AM :: Added some text to the RP tidbit to explain that we were joining a dig site that was already there

Username: itsie bitsie spider
Nightmare/Daydream: 3
Name of Character: Davron aka “Diggs”
University They Graduated From: I’m presenting him as someone who is a pro in his field from the Above who was given the opportunity to come teach in the Below.
School They Are Applying To: Asterion
Class Name: Archaeology
Personality:
Davron is quite the enthusiastic sort when it comes areas of his interests. History, Anthropology, and most of all, Archaeology. Nothing thrills him more than the chance to literally dig up a piece of history! Now, being the top in his field in the Above was certainly fun, but when the chance to go to the Below arose, well it was an opportunity he just couldn’t turn down! There were so many new things he could learn about, and maybe even help those of the Below appreciate more of their history by digging it up! But simply being out in the field was something that would not do. Oh no. He wanted to pass on his excitement to the bright minds that would define the future by finding their past! He wanted to teach. He enjoys every moment when it comes to teaching his students, but for the love of anything, he can’t read expressions and body language to save his life!

RP Tidbit:
Adjusting his scarf about his neck, Diggs -- as he chose to have his student call him -- beamed at the group before him. There were eager eyes looking toward their teacher, wanting him to show them the way. Or, mayhaps, they might have been trying to figure out how they were going to survive. He wasn’t the best at reading facial cues. Now for this first true dig since coming to the Below, he had jumped through hoops and all sorts to get them out to a place that could be quite interesting. Summerforge. Once the ancestral home to the Demons, here it was laid out before them in ruins. And if there was something to be said about the chance to go dig up history, everyone knew it had to be in the desert! This was the perfect place!

“Alright and listen up, kids!” He said as he spoke to the group in front of him. They weren’t children, obviously, but they were younger than him so ‘kids’ it was! “Today is a super special day. Today we are going to work on digging up some demon history! Now I’m sure you’ve gotten earfuls in classes, and maybe even seen some pictures, but this is how you truly discover the past! By digging it up!” The dig site around them was bustling as the Nightmares and Daydreams were working real hard and sweating up a storm as they were here and there while digging, climbing, and the likes. From the look of things, this was going to be quite the experience!

One of his students raised their hand, asking him why he picked this spot and what he was hoping to find. The Fey simply grinned and said “Because it’s a great place to start and anything... Everything! We could find anything from pottery, skeletal remains, ruins buried beneath the sand. If you’re going to look for the past, the only limits are your imagination!...” He paused for a moment, then added on “As well as physique and how much water you’ve brought with you.” When his students began to talk amongst themselves, concern over what he said spreading, he let out a hearty chuckle. “Don’t worry. We have a fine supply and set-up all ready. You guys just get ready to have some fun and get dirty! I'll give you a few moments to wrap your head around things, then assign you to your dig mentor!”

With that ever present smile on his face and a careful stroke, the Fey brushed his hair back and picked up his hat, placing it on his head. He loved it. It was tailor made to accommodate his antennae. Couldn’t beat that when trying to beat the heat! “Let’s grab our tools and get this thing started!”

2 Activity Examples:

Assignment 1
Archaeology 101 - The Principles to Digging up the Past

Diggs stood in front of his class with a stack of books set upon his desk, resting his hand upon them as he grinned. “Good morning, good morning to you class! I’m Professor Davron, but I’d rather you all call me Diggs. Since you are all new to this class and this class is new to you, we have some things to cover! Today we are going to go over some basic principles of archaeology. Starting with the back row up there, I want you all to make your way down, one row at a time and pick up one of these Principles of Archaeology books.” His hand lifted from its place on the books as he continued. “For you, this means homework! But don’t groan! Groaning gets you a delay in our next assignment. Believe you me, you don’t want to put that off because then you’ll miss out on the big fun that is to come! It’s something to be excited for!” Waving the back row down, Diggs stepped to the side and let his students come pick up a book and return to their seats. As everyone settled back into their rightful spots, he grabbed up his own copy. “You can either start the assignment now, or when you head home for the night, but by tomorrow I want a short essay on my desk. I want you to pick one of the principles stated in this book and tell me why you think it’s the most important of them!” The Fey grabbed up his hat that was resting on the edge of the dry erase board, placed it on his head, and tipped it to his class. “Dismissed! Take it how you will!”

Rules:
☀Read through the ‘book’ that the good professor provided your student and pick the principle your NM/DD thinks is the most important
☀Have your student write a paper and post the reply in thread. 100 word minimum, please! Feel free to expand on what is in the material provided! Repeats are fine!

Assignment 2
Archaeology 101 - Knowing What it Takes to Dig up the Past

It was a new day and the professor eagerly awaited his students as he stood in front of the dry erase board at the front of the room. As the bodies piled in, Diggs cleared his throat. “Hello again my prized pupils! Today is the next step in educating you on how to dig up the past and learn from it! Now we’re not talking about digging through recent history or your life dramas from when you were younger. Oh no. This is bigger than us all. And that’s why you have to know the proper tools it takes!” Stepping aside, Diggs made a show-host like gesture to the white board. “Before your eyeballs, we have a list of tools that are common at dig sites. Your job is to pick one you think most useful, and explain it to the class. BUT!... the kicker is, you also have think of a ‘tool’” he said as he made a quote unquote motion “that isn’t listed up here and why it is important. For this I’d like to see you kids thinking out of the box! Wow me with your minds! You all have about five or ten minutes before I start calling names, so be ready!”

Rules:
☀Read through the list that the good professor provided your student and pick the tool your NM/DD thinks is the most important
☀Have your student stand up and present their thoughts on the tool to the professor and class, as well as something not listed in thread. 100 word minimum, please! Repeats are fine!

Assignment 3 - Bonus Assignment
Archaeology 101 - Literally Digging up the Past

Today was a day that Diggs was exceptionally excited for. He had been planning this day since he got the offer to teach the class at Asterion. It took a lot to do, but he couldn’t wait to announce what was happening to his students. As the lot of them piled into the classroom, he grinned the biggest grin to them all since he started teaching the class. The looks he got from his pupils made him think they were just as excited for whatever was happening. That, or they were worried he was about to turn some sort of ancient bone beast on them all. He really was terrible at reading expressions! “So! I’m sure you all are quite interested in what I have planned for you. Well I won’t keep you waiting, because I’m far too excited myself!” The room quickly filled with murmurs and suggestions on what the nutty professor could be up to now. “Class! We’re going on a dig! I got us setup for a seven day dig out in the Summerforge. Your hard work at learning what it takes is going to pay off!” As the class volume took off, Diggs gave an amused chuckle. “You got three days to get yourselves ready to go! This is the chance of a lifetime for students! Not only will you get to observe, but dig! Get your hands and claws dirty!” Raising his pointer finger up, the classroom grew quiet once more. “This is what you have been working so hard for. I told you that you didn’t want to groan! Now get your outside world life in order and get excited!”

Rules:
☀The assignment this time is a journal! It doesn’t have to be super detailed, but just give a little something about the seven day dig and something they did each day. No word limit, but give a little something of substance and post the response in thread!

Nightmare/Daydream: 2
Name of Character: Nandita
University They Graduated From: Grendel
School They Are Applying To: Grendel
Class Name: Theater
Personality: Ever since she was young, Nandita has had a passion for the world of theater. She would find and read every single play that she could get her hands on, and would even attend performances when she was able to. The first time she was allowed to audition for a play, she was full of nerves, but super excited at the same time. Even more excited when she found out that she had gotten a part. From then on she was involved hands on with any performance she could get into. Even if she was simply an usher helping those find their seats. As they say in theater, there are no small roles, only small actors.

It would be wrong of her to say that she was never disappointed when she didn't get a part in a production, or if she did get a part that it was tiny, but it was all part of the world of theater. She took each critique that was given and tried her best to improve even more. After graduating from the Academy, she enrolled into Grendel, and did everything she could. She performed in the shows, worked with the tech teams, was a stage manager a couple of times, and even took on the role of director for two productions. She was in love with all of it.

Yet, even with her busy class and production schedule, she also took time out to help those that needed a shoulder to cry on or an ear to vent to. As far as she was concerned, she was never to busy to help out a fellow person, for no one should go without help. Yet, there were times she had to remember that she herself needed help from time to time, and those were always hard lessons to learn, but learn them she would.

After graduating from Grendel, she went out and performed in a number of productions for a few years, and also directed just as many productions that she acted in. Yet, she longed for something, and it took her awhile to realize just what that was. As much as she loved directing and acting, she realized that she wanted to be able to pass on her skills and love of the theater to those at her alma mater, Grendel. That was what she wanted to do now more then anything in the world. Sure, the world of theater was tough, but she would teach them how to navigate it, and how to not let the disappointment get to them, and how to learn from every audition process. With that in mind, she went to back to Grendel and applied for a teaching position, determined to do everything she could to get this position.

2 Activity Examples: Acting: Monologues
Look for a monologue piece that you can perform in class. The length of it matters not. What matters is how well you are able to perform the piece. I will be looking for body language, facial expressions, and listening to tone of your voice. After you perform your piece, please write me a small blurb on how you felt about the piece, why you chose it, and how you feel you did on the piece.

-Roll a hundred sided dice. If you roll over 50 you pass. May reroll up to three times
-Post a small rp response about the piece you are performing, including the blurb mentioned above. The blurb must be included with every roll, including the failed rolls.

**Website you can check out for Monologues xXx **

Tech: Stage Lighting

Lights in a performance can be extremely important. For this particular assignment I want you to explain to me in an essay of why lights are important in any performance. You can use examples from plays and/or musicals to better describe why lights are so important. We'll then discuss what you have found out about stage lighting.

-Write a response that includes them handing in their essay, and then discussing what they had found out about stage lighting with the rest of the class.

Nightmare/Daydream: 1
Name of Character: Sasha
University They Graduated From: Grendel / Leviathan
School They Are Applying To: Grendel
Class Name: Illusion
Personality: Sasha was born in Snowgarden where they were raised for most of their young life. They were a quiet and independent child, often making up their own games since there weren't many children their own age around to play with, and constantly needed a challenge to occupy their mind. At about the age and education level of an Academy graduated senior they decided they needed to broaden their horizons and find more challenges elsewhere, so they enrolled in university. Initially attending Leviathan for Alchemy, they decided they wanted a broader scope of the magical disciples rather than becoming a specialist in one particular type and took up Enchanting as well, then switched over to Grendel and finished their triple major with Illusion. While they have earned their degree, they feel there is much more they could still learn and wish to stay close to the University to make use of their resources. They decided to take on a teaching job, since it would give them an income and reason to be on university grounds, and of all the jobs they had considered it seemed to be the most worthwhile endeavor.

Sasha tends to do their own thing, just as they did as a child. They can most often be found going through thick books or practicing magic. They keep a personal notebook of their many experiments, both successes and failures, and like to constantly tweak variables to figure out how the changes might cause the end result to differ. They're not particularly secretive about anything they do, and will readily answer any questions should anyone be curious enough to ask. While they're usually quite kind and polite they can get a bit obsessed when in the middle of a project, and need a lot of external prodding to break through their internal (and sometimes aloud) mulling. Sasha is normally very good-natured though, and while they might seem initially grumpy at interruptions they rarely take offence. Sometimes they need those interruptions to remind them to take a break and live in the real world for a bit.

2 Activity Examples:

Class Activity

Importance of Illusion

Opens: First day of the Month
Closes: Last day of the Month, 11:59pm CST

"Illusion can be used to great effect in a variety of practical situations. You are only limited by your own personal stamina and your imagination. I would like you to give me an example of a situation in which illusion can be used to benefit yourself and/or others, and why the illusion itself was an important part of the solution."

Rules:
  1. Describe a situation where illusion can be used as a solution to a problem, and why the illusion was important.
  2. Situations can be anything you can think of, big or small, as long as the illusion plays a key roll in the solution.
  3. Repeats are fine.
  4. Post a roleplay response in thread of your student's answer, and of them turning their assignment in to Sasha.

Class Activity

Avoiding detection

Opens: First day of the Month
Closes: Last day of the Month, 11:59pm CST

"Illusion can be used to disguise or hide items or people in plain sight, but there are some people who know to look for illusions so they can see past them. Knowing this, how would you craft an illusion so it might remain undetected?"

Rules:
  1. Post a roleplay response in thread of your student's answer to the above prompt, and of them turning their assignment in to Sasha.
  2. Illusions can be combined with the other magical disciplines for this scenario, if you so desire.
  3. Repeats are fine.

EDITED: 3/21/16 @ 5:56 am- Deleted two words from Personality

Username: Alamoraine
Nightmare/Daydream: #4
Name of Character: Chervil
University They Graduated From: Leviathan
School They Are Applying To: Community College
Class Name: Survival Skills
Personality: Outwardly, Chervil is kind and patient, choosing his words carefully and refusing to be rattled by student shenanigans. But beneath his tranquil exterior lies the roots of a worrywart. Believing them to be messages from the dryad's sacred trees, he takes his dreams very seriously, and throughout his school life, he has been plagued by nightmares where all of the world's magic has left, depleted by meaningless conflict and flippant misuse. Instead of chalking it up to an unacknowledged streak of cynicism, he takes it as a sign and believes very strongly that today's youth should know the basics of survival in any circumstance, so that everyone has a chance of seeing their people endure the worst, be it a world with weaker magic, fewer crystals or even another 50 Year War.

With this viewpoint to guide him, Chervil applied himself to parts of his studies that could come in handy in times of need: Botany for edible plants and medicinal roots, Astronomy for navigation in unfamiliar lands, and even a bit of Engineering for a chance to work with making useful items out of materials at hand. By the time his graduation day dawned, he felt he was adequately prepared, and while he knows that many would likely scoff at his proposal for a class, he hopes that at the very least it would be seen as giving the less magically inclined a leg-up, and a much-deserved chance at thriving.

2 Activity Examples:

Alternative Survival Kit

Chervil stood before the class, watching as curious eyes fell upon what he had clasped in his hands: a large fishbowl filled with scraps of paper. "Many of you who have thought about surviving on limited resources already have a vague idea what you would choose to pack in your own survival kit. However, some environments would cause certain items to be rendered...... impractical. For instance, those of you who hail from a desert environment would consider a tap for getting water from a cactus. But what if you found yourself lost in the deepest snow instead?"
"As I pass by your desk, you will select a paper from this bowl and you will have 10 minutes to plan a survival kit based on the environment written upon it."

Rules:
* Generate a random number between 1 and 5.
* Depending on your number, plan a survival kit with at least 10 items, with at least 4 pertaining to that particular region:
1- Desert
2- Jungle
3- Ocean
4- Forest
5- Polar
* You can either post a RP reply or simply list the items

**Extra credit: "Improvisation is a valuable skill to have when you find yourself in need of essential tools. Take an item that would normally be exclusive to another environment and write how you would adapt the tool to make it useful in your own situation."

Building a Shelter

The students gathered outside, in a more open area of the school grounds. The normally pristine lawn was scattered with all forms of debris: dead branches, leaves, and even huge clumps of moss. Standing beside the tallest pile of branches was Chervil with a bucket of water.
"When you find yourself lost, shelter should be your top priority, but that does not mean you should be hasty in it's construction. Taking your time will ultimately benefit you in the long run as opposed to a messy shelter that leaks when you most need it to stay dry."
"Construct a shelter using any materials you like, signal me when it is completed, and we will test and see if you shall have a dry night, or a wet one."

Rules:
1. Find and post a picture of a shelter made of twigs, bark and moss; any style will do. Then quote Alamoraine to get Chervil's attention and post a short RP of your student entering their shelter.
2. Chervil will respond by coming over to the shelter, inspecting it briefly, then pouring his bucket of water over it.
3. Roll a 4 sided die. If you get anything OTHER THAN a 1, your shelter holds up to the water. If you get a 1, your shelter leaks and you must fix it.
4. You get one chance to fix your shelter; post a short RP and re-roll your dice; the result will be commented upon by Chervil.

Nightmare/Daydream: 2
Name of Character: Arabelle
University They Graduated From: Asterion
School They Are Applying To: Asterion
Class Name: Psychology
Personality: Arabelle was born to one of the less well-to-do elven families. Frankly her family is quite low class, though they grasp at every opportunity that arises to better themselves. Arabelle spent much of her childhood observing. As a child she was to be seen, not heard. As a lower class citizen her opinion held less value. So she learned to keep quiet and just watch. It became a game for her, trying to guess what others were like, how they'd respond to certain things and what they'd want, just from watching. The better she got at it, the more she used her knowledge to avoid unpleasant situations whenever possible. As soon as travel between Above and Below reopened she immediately transferred down, hoping to find better opportunities. She enrolled in Asterion for psychology while working simple jobs on campus, learning about Nightmares and their different cultures. It was so fascinating that she decided to apply for a position as a psychology professor at the university as soon as she earned her major.

Arabelle is pretty nice for an Elf. She's used to hard work and not having much, and while she's pretty proud of her race she'll admit that there are probably flaws in their logic. The same could be said of any race though, so as long as she and others play nice with each other there's no need to get snippy over what someone is. That's her stance on it, anyway. She's still fairly quiet and prefers to observe rather than participate. The only time she becomes real chatty or animated is around the people she feels safe with. To Arabelle, predictable is safe. It's a thing that was ingrained during her childhood, too many unpleasant surprise personality quirks that were hidden behind nice, polite masks. She just wants to know that she stands on firm ground with someone, rather than getting the rug ripped out from under her feet just as she's off balance.

2 Activity Examples:

Class Activity

Motivation through reinforcement

Opens: First day of the Month
Closes: Last day of the Month, 11:59pm CST

"How can we motivate ourselves more effectively through reinforcement?"

Rules:
  1. Post a roleplay response in thread of your student's answer to the above question, and of them turning their assignment in to Arabelle.
  2. You can look through [Psychology Today] to get ideas if you'd like.
  3. Repeats are fine.

Class Activity

Personality test

Opens: First day of the Month
Closes: Last day of the Month, 11:59pm CST

"Today we're going to take a test that will determine particular aspects of your personality. When you're finished, write a paper with your results, whether or not you agree with them, and whether you think the test was an accurate personality gauge or just a hoax full of generalizations."

Rules:
  1. Post a roleplay response in thread of your student's answer, and of them turning their assignment in to Arabelle.
  2. Response should include the results of your test (ISTJ, ENFP, etc), your student's opinion of the accuracy of the results, and your student's opinion of the test itself.
  3. The test in question can be found [here].
  4. There are 64 questions total. Try to answer them as your student would.
  5. You don't have to take the test if you'd really rather not answer all those questions. All 16 personality types can be found to the right of the first few questions. Just select the one that fits your student best.
  6. If you decide not to take the test you should try to read through some of the questions in order to answer the third prompt.
  7. Repeats are fine.

Personality: Abellio was born and raised in a little village that was about an even mix of Fey and Dryad. While he had many playmates his own age whom he got along well with, he had many friends among the Goblins from the next village over whom he liked to sneak off with. Abellio adores food and has always had an interest in it, not only for eating but the process of making it and how food seems to bring people together. It was a something highly evident among the Goblins, and while as an outsider he never got to experience all their culture had to offer, it was his little glimpses that sparked his appreciate for food. As Abellio and his friends grew older and a bit more distant, he turned his attention to learning more about different foods on his own. Learning more about traditional recipes, tweaking and experimenting with whatever he could find, and trying to make his own stamp in the culinary world. He eventually went to school to try honing his techniques while also working at a local diner. When travel between the worlds opened up, Abellio was literally jumping at the chance to learn about new cuisines. He went down to Below and enrolled in Community College. Since there was no active professor he applied for the job. Now he teaches by day and is rapidly acquainting himself with as many new techniques as he can.

Abellio is a very cheerful sort who can be ridiculously perky. He's always been kind of chunky, but he's surprisingly active and can be quick on his feet when he needs to. He's often rattling around in a kitchen or contemplating new recipes, and usually smells of a variety of foods and spices. He's almost a bit grandmotherly, always making sure you've properly eaten, always offering snacks, and will sit you down and wipe up some comfort food at the merest hint of distress. He can definitely be a bit obsessive with food, and sometimes needs others to remind him to balance his interests out a bit more, but for now he is quite content as he is. While Abellio is a kind person who tends to be a shoulder to cry on or agony aunt, is a bit of a mother hen, and displays his emotions easily, he isn't given to vapors or hysterics. He's actually a solid rock of good, common sense, and can be relied upon to keep his head in serious situations.

Nightmare/Daydream: 4
Name of Character: Haru
University They Graduated From: Leviathan (Chemisty, Biology, Geologly. Also some higher education from Above.)
School They Are Applying To: Leviathan
Class Name: Chemistry/Biology/Geology (If you'd prefer I only take on one or two subjects just let me know and I'll par it down, but I'm fine with all three)
Personality: Haru was born and raised in a fairly large Dryad tribe. They were always very adventuresome and curious with a love of experiment, conducting their own research as often as they asked questions, perhaps even more so. They did quite well in school, excelling at sciences, and attended higher education facilities in Above with the intent to make a career of it. Just before their graduation, travel between the worlds reopened. Unwilling to let the opportunity to explore a new land slip between their fingers, Haru completed their education in Above then promptly enrolled at Leviathan University and traveled to Below to continue their education. They spent a great deal of their time between classes exploring the land and learning more. They are particularly intrigued by the similarities between the two worlds, and hoped to make a study of it from a scientific standpoint. However the cold and dark of Below made the prospect of tromping around the land seem particularly daunting, and that was without taking into account the negative view some Nightmares had against Daydreams. In addition, Haru was feeling the need for stability and the idea of being able to settle for a time and financially support their self was quite appealing. They earned their majors from Leviathan and left to find a place that called out to them. In the end they returned to the university and requested a teaching position, as it was both a job and a place well equipped to continue their scientific inquiries. While they still consider their self a Seedling and are unsure whether they want to make Leviathan their Root home, they are very comfortable where they are and have no plans to leave.

Haru is soft spoken and has a distant gentleness about them. They are quite good at deflecting subjects they do not wish to discuss without seeming to avoid them, and are unfailing polite even when it's not deserved. Despite the quiet and cautious front they have a great deal of curiosity and never tiring of learning new things, whether it pertains to their particular interests or not. They're willing to try anything new once because they feel like no knowledge is useless. While not the most emotive or open of people, Haru is still a quite caring and hospitable person who will openly share what they have with those in need. They can still stand up for their own self in a confrontation and aren't afraid to let someone know if they've gone too far, but their approach to confrontation is less about winning or putting someone in their place and more about finding the root cause of the confrontation and working with it to see if something further needs to be done.

Name of Character: Yahya
University They Graduated From: Leviathan
School They Are Applying To: Community College
Class Name: Nursing
Personality: Yahya is a very motherly elf, and is much more relaxed about pretty much everything than most of her race. She does tend to feel closer to or more relaxed around other elves or elf-hybrids, but she doesn't let it color how she sees her students. She's friendly and always available to help a student if they need it. She particularly loves little ones and enjoys visiting the academy and orphanage. It's her belief that nothing deserves to be hurt or in pain and if she can help it she will. This means she's almost always carrying a little bag with first aid type things in it, and has a tendency to packrat such supplies in her home and will almost always pick up extra bits and bobs when they catch her eye. At least twice a year she goes through everything to make sure nothing's expired. She absolutely loves to keep up with advances in medicine and has subscriptions to a couple different magazines which she has no problem sharing with her students.
2 Activity Examples:
Activity One
Expectations

Yahya sat on the top of her desk in the front of the small classroom, smiling as students filed in. "Hello, class!" she said brightly once everyone was settled. "As a first lesson, today I want to know what it is that you guys expect to learn in this class. We'll discuss, and then before you leave I'll give you a rundown of what we'll actually learn. Deal?" she said as she hopped off her desk. "So who would like to go first?" She wasn't a fan of written assignments and preferred to do everything as a discussion or lecture if at all possible. That way questions could be asked and answered and everyone could be on the same page.

Rules
1. Have your student stand up and give a short description of whatever they expect to learn in the upcoming classes.
2. Use the code to post your response~

Activity Two
CPR

For this lesson, Yahya had moved desks back to make room for a few dummies that her students could practice on. "Gather round the dummies, kids. Today we're learning CPR. We'll go through it verbally first in case you want to take notes, then I'll demonstrate and then it'll be your turn!" she said with a smile. "Now these dummies are pretty neat, they'll let you know if you're doing it right with lights. Green of course means you're doing great and red means you missed something, or aren't positioned correctly." She explained the process to them while she demonstrated slowly, then went through the demonstration again before beginning to call the students up to try for themselves.

Rules
1. Roll a 100-sided die. 1-25 = Fail. Try again, up to three times. 26-100 = Pass. If you want, for RP response purposes, the lower the number the more red lights the student got.
2. Use the code to post your response~

Activity Three
Phlebotomy

Yahya sat in the chair behind her desk today, with a grin on her face and a basket of oranges on the desk. When everyone was settled in, she walked around and set an orange on each desk along with a packet of items as she explained what they would be doing. "Phlebotomy, or drawing blood, is not an easy task. Practice will help you get better at it, but it's hard to find willing, live, subjects who will let you stick them with a needle. So we're going to begin with oranges. It's not the same as it would be with a patient, but to get a general feel for how this goes it'll do." She smiled and explained what all the items in the packet were for and how to use them. As the students got started, she shared tips and tricks with them that might help.

Rules
1. Roll a 100-sided die. 1-35 = Fail. Try again, up to three times. 36-100 = Pass. If you want, for RP response purposes, the lower the number the harder it was for your student to draw "blood" from the oranges.
2. Use the code to post your response~

Name of Character: Illyana
University They Graduated From: Asterion/Grendel
School They Are Applying To: Community College
Class Name: Child Care
Personality:
Name: Illyana
Race: Elf
Zodiac sign: The Staff
Gender: Femme
University: Asterion/Grendel

Done Quest Style-ish so spoilering:

Brief overview of life so far: Illyana was the third daughter of an upper-middle class family from Above. As a child she was often thought strange because she was quiet, reserved, watchful, and entirely uninterested in the family's economic enterprises. What seemed to interest her most was PEOPLE.... most particularly children. Now while most elves value pure blooded children to be heirs, they don't so much value childhood- as most elven children work in the family business. Ilyana always felt that this was a wayward attitude to take. So, in order to prevent there from being uncomfortable questions asked by the higher (and lower) elven families, her family agreed to allow her to follow a most unusual path and venture into Below to attend university (a bit of an over-achiever she graduated from both Grendel and Asterion). She has little true contact with her family now having deicided to make the world of Below her home, aside of course from a quarterly letter (more like a report) to her family to assure them that all was as well as could be.

Having completed her studies with good marks she had little time for socializing, preferring to sit and watch, though she did help out with the freshlings whenever her turn came up or she had the spare time. She got along alright with the other races (there were SOME tensions that she had to work to overcome....mostly) but what she was best at was when she was with the children. Because for some reason to Illyana a child was a child was a child- race didn't come into it where freshlings were concerned. After all a Freshling today is the future tomorrow!

Now that she was free (ish) to truly follow what she wanted, Illyana was applying to become a teacher- at the community college it must be said but one has to start somewhere- to become a Child Care Teacher. Her goal was to work with those interested in her same passion of children to find ways of educating them so they could grow and blossom into the leaders of the future.

One day, in the future to be sure, Illyana hopes to have her own children, but that is farther on down the road, first she desires to continue learning as much as she can about what makes little minds tick- and how to help them best.

Personality: Positive and negative traits: While an elf she is remarkably accepting of other races, to a point. Ask her to work too close with a Demon in a position of power over her and there could be some sparks. Put her with a Grimm as an authority figure and boy will she toe the line- and get out of there as fast as possible.

But when it comes to children (anyone younger than her is considered a child) be they freshling, junior, or senior they are a precious gift to be cherished. Wanting to work with children and teach for most of her life she is a bit giddy at the prospect that she is applying to do that. If she has a blind spot it can be in being TOO leinient with children, becuase she doesn't want to crush their spirits. Now she understands the ins and outs of positive and negative reinforcements and that children of any age must have boundaries, but even so she has a soft spot, especially for the younger ones.

She is ambitious, she hopes to one day do something revolutionary in child care- she's not sure exactly what yet- but she's got a deep rooted feeling that one day she will be importaint. She has a desire to show her family that she's not just a black sheep who can do nothing but get out of the way.....so she's got something to prove- even if she doesn't admit it to herself.

Likes and Dislikes: She loves brighter colors (not on her of course) but on others and in her surroundings. Obviously her passions are children and teaching. She likes being the center of attention in a classroom- it plays to her ambitions and her need to prove something. She is a bit wary because she's never fully been given room to grow without the stigma's of her family overshadowing her- so there is a slight watchfulness that shows when people try to get past aquaintances to her inner circle.... She struggles to realize that she is stable and has made a life for herself, worried that her family will call her home on a whim. She has some trust issues, but would love to find someone- or a few someones to have children with.

She loves lights, it reminds her of Above in a good way. The dark is welcoming but a thing to be cautious about.

She holds a not-so-secret love of animals, especially the fluffier the better.

She has a VERY hard time being shown up by someone she considers an equal. She accepts that she can learn from children- all the time- but she has such a drive that coming from a peer it is difficult to accept.

Hobbies: She enjoys crafting- ceramics, fiber arts, painting, coloring, etc. That is why she double graduated so she'd have the background in the arts with the foreground of Psych/Soc. She has a bit of a hard time adjusting to the dimmer lights of Below, but on the whole feels it outweights what would have awaited her Above.

2 Activity Examples:
Activity One: Connecting with your inner child.
In order to be able to better connect with children one must be able to understand and connect with their OWN inner child. So, for today's excercise I would like you all to write down your first POTENT memory, not your very first, but your first CORE memory that helped establish the person you are today. Take some time, think about it, dig deep. I expect 150 words minimum telling the memory, and then another 100 explaining how this memory ties to the you of today!

Activity Two: Play time!
Playtime is an importaint time of Childhood. It is a time of growing, exploring and trying out new things. One is never too old to engage in play time. So for our next class I would like you all to bring to the table one version of what Playtime is for you, and how you will include children in this. For an example: Playtime for me is when I'm creating something..... like sitting at the ceramics wheel, throwing a pot- feeling the clay flow through my hands and communing with the clay to create something special. I would like you to write 200 words about YOUR playtime (what it is and how it makes you feel)- AND bring in an example of something you've created in your play time whether its the thing itself or a picture of it to share with the class.

Activity Three: Trouble in Paradise!
You have two freshlings under your care. One was playing quitely in the sand box with a toy truck (child A), the other digging with a shovel and bucket some distance away (child B). Child B approaches the other and insists that the truck is theirs to play with. When child A argues and throws sand at Child B, child B responds by hitting with the shovel. They both come to you to solve the dispute. What do you do? How do you negotiate the situation. Write a 250 word Role play of how you solve the situation, feel free to RP child A and B as needed.

Name of Character: Florence / Flo
University They Graduated From: Asterion
School They Are Applying To: Asterion
Class Name: Sociology
Personality: Flo is a quirky teacher who believes heavily in real world experience as compared to reading musty, old case studies. Extroverted and a social butterfly are how many would describe the professor of sociology, who is known for over the top projects and an open door policy (if I'm in it, you can be in it too (addendum: unless i'm changing.))

She's not just a pretty face either. Flo is a leading researcher in her field, the study of cross cultural examples between Daydream and Nightmares, as well as a major advocate for putting students and researchers into the Neko/Naga area before the outside contact ruins their isolated culture and it is lost to the ages.
2 Activity Examples: [Be as detailed as possible!]

(I'd make it look nicer than this xD this is just bare bones...)

Sociology Case Study

Flo writes in big words on the board 'FIELD PARTICIPATION'. Turning back to the group she smiles and nods, "All right, here's the deal: I hate the old case studies. Some of them are fundamental to our understanding of nightmares and our social world, but let's be real - those old codgers didn't have near the tech we do today. Nor did they have exposure to so many different races. You think Princeton's Principles of mating would still apply if they knew Grimm were around? Well maybe. But that's the thing! We're scientists, kids, and that means a maybe just ain't gonna cut it.

"Now I'm not asking you to make up a mating principle or make a thesis, but I want you to go out and observe one of the following and make up a small report -"

TOPIC 1: Find two Freshlings, of the same race. One should have at least one parent or guardian (preferably of their race) and the other should be an Orphan/from the stone cache. Study up on their typical cultural behaviors. Using the Freshling with a guardian as a control group, how does the orphan deviate? Do you think this is a good method? Yes or no? Please write a report of 200 words minimum.

TOPIC 2: Daydreams are a newcomer to the world of below. A hot topic is solar fey and the issues they face. Look into the culture that is growing in the underground of Solar Fey. What is it like? Do you think it could be considered a subculture (you might need to read in your textbook about subcultures!) Please write a report of 200 words minimum.

TOPIC 3: Bakenekos have amazing fur coats and for years it was the basis of arranged marriages. Now adays, this has fallen to the wayside. I want you to interview at least 3 Bakeneko Seniors and get their opinion on whether or not this trend of arranged marriages will return due to social pressure from the outside world. After you have gathered their responses, tell me what YOU think. Please write a report of 200 words minimum.

Sociology Cultural Reports

We often neglect culture as frufru and pointless - but it's not! I want you to pick a race and interview at least three different nightmares from that culture. They need to be different ages. Please note if they were orphaned or were raised by a guardian. You will need to factor this into their response.

Now, brush up on their culture and pick something you find interesting. For example: Geists swipe items from those they are interested in and flaunt them to the one they stole it from. This has gotten a bad rap in recent years, as it wasn't widely understood. How do your interviewees think of this practice? Have they done it? Is there an alternative they prefer, if not?

Since I picked the easy Geist one, you guys gotta take something different! Sorry! No groaning! Use those noggins!
