[Text to Spades: We need to talk. ] Katrina had swyped the text onto her phone, staring at it for a good minute or two before finally hitting send. She still wasn't entirely sure how the whole conversation was going to wind up going, but that was the easiest way to start it. She set the phone down on the arm of the couch after flopping down onto it, glaring at the device as though that might somehow make it chime back with a response faster.

Chase's phone buzzed as he was pulling on his leather jacket, about to embark on what he hoped was a relaxing ride on Hermes. Reluctantly, he pulled out his phone to see a text message from Katrina. The frown on his face deepened as he slid the screen to unlock it.
[Text to Kat: About what? Can't it wait?]
He shoved the phone into his jacket's pocket, grabbing his keys and slipping out the garage door and over to his bike.

She made a face at the text she got back, eying her phone as though Chase would be able to see the dirty look that she was giving him directly without having to take a picture to send to him. [ Text to Spades: No. ] [ Text to Spades: It's important. ] [ Text to Spades: -Very- important. ] If he tried to ignore her she'd just keep texting him. Or worse, she would actually call. Calling wasn't her favorite thing, though. Phonecalls could be disconnected or sent to voicemail.

Of course, his phone went off before he could pull his helmet on and, reluctantly, he fished it out of his phone. Then, sighed when he read the texts.
[Text to Kat: I'm busy.]
He was high-strung and wanted to go on a ride but -
What if Kat needed him.
[Text to Kat: What is it.]
He promised he'd teach her and be there. So he was going to be their, even if he was grouchy about it.

[ Text to Spades: Not too busy if you're answering text messages. ] a**. He wasn't allowed to ignore her after what he'd done, even if he didn't know he was in trouble for it yet. [ Text to Spades: What were you doing Saturday night? ] [ Text to Spades: Don't lie to me. I'll know. ] [ Text to Spades: Maybe not best convo to have through text. Meet you somewhere? ]

Chase had half a mind to ignore Katrina when she got sassy at him, over text messages.
[Text to Kat: Check the attitude.]
A bit harsh but straight to the point. It didn't matter that he didn't know what her emergency was, he was her superior and he expected to be treated like such.
[Text to Kat: I had a date. Why is that important? No. I'm busy. ]
The phone went back into his pocket and he fit the helmet over his head and hit the button to open his garage, sliding on to Hermes and turning the bike on.

Katrina let out a frustrated noise when the first response, gracing her phone with an 'if looks could kill' glare when the second one came through. [ Text to Spades: It's important because of who you went on a date -with-, Sir.] She only added on the 'sir' for emphasis because he had told her to check her attitude. Well, not only because of that. She also wanted him to know that she was being serious. [ Text to Spades: I told you about the incident in the mall parking lot. Few nights after you woke me up? ] [ Text to Spades: That was her. ]

He'd been about to peel out when he felt his phone going off not once, but three times.
He read the texts and his frustration increased, frown deepening as he squinted at the screen.
[Text to Kat: What are you talking about? ]
Chase was, admittedly confused. Katrina's texts messages weren't making sense.
[Text to Kat: Why does it matter? It was a blind date.]

[ Text to Spades: It matters because she's a -friend- now. ] [ Text to Spades: You went on a blind date with one of my friends. ] [ Text to Spades: Are you going out with her again? ] Friends didn't date friends without letting other friends know. That was just how things worked and if he didn't understand that she was going to be very cross with him, superior officer or not.

[Text to Kat: You're not making any sense. ]
One, Chase didn't get the supposed big deal of him going on a date with Priscilla, especially since he hadn't even picked her. The Museum had picked for him.
[Text to Kat: The possibility was discussed. ]
He offered her no more information because, well Chase and Prissy had merely discussed each of them going to visit each other's places of employment. He hadn't asked her on another date despite giving her his number when he requested the picture be sent to him.
Lara had absolutely adored the selfie, calling him almost immediately after he sent it to her and asking for details.
If his mom had her way, there'd be a second date.
[Text to Kat: I still don't understand why this matters. ]

[ Text to Spades: I am making perfect sense. ] [ Text to Spades: I am making lots of sense. ] [ Text to Spades: You don't make any sense. ] She had typed out the third text, glaring at her phone for a long, hard moment before deleting it, only sending through the first two. [ Text to Spades: It just -does-. It matters because she's my FRIEND and it matters because you're my YOU and if something is going on I need to know about it because I need to know what to say. ] [ Text to Spades: sad ]

[Text to Kat: You aren't.]
Chase responded to the first two texts, opting to ignore his phone long enough to get Hermes out of the garage and to go for a short ride, ultimately ending up at his coffee shop before he parked and killed the engine.
It'd only been ten minutes and yet Kat had texted him twice and the emoji made him wrinkle his nose.
[Text to Kat: We went on a date. That's it and this conversation is over Kat.]

It took her some time before she sent him another text. She needed a moment to clear her head and think of how to properly word what she wanted to say to him without using the words 'You are an idiot', knowing that would go over like a lead balloon. Katrina grabbed her helmet and took her own bike out, heading for a part of town that didn't seem to get patrolled by the police as much as the others. It gave her a chance to drive fast and reckless, getting her pulse going and freeing her mind from everything that she had been worrying about. When she finally came back down she slid off of her bike, drawing out her phone to send another text. [ Text to Spades: I respect you.] [ Text to Spades: I should hope that's a given, all things considered, but I wanted to let you know that. I -respect- you. We aren't friends, but we have a relationship because of what happened the night we introduced ourselves.] [ Text to Spades: Prissy and I are friends. I need to know what to say to her so I don't say something out of line. Do I let her know that I know you? Do I -lie-? I don't want to lie to her.] A part of her was disgusted knowing that she would lie to Prissy if he asked her to; if it meant protecting either one of them: her General, or her corrupted friend. [ Text to Spades: She's going to text you all the time. More than me. Jsyk.]

In the time it took for Katrina to text him back, Chase had snagged an iced latte from Just Add Coffee and was leaning against his bike contemplating how the whole texting situation had been handled.
Perhaps he had been too harsh in his "this is over" text.
Then again, he needed Katrina to understand that if she wasn't clear with her words then the conversation was not going to progress.
His phone buzzed with a sudden string of texts and Chase sighed, setting his cup on the seat of his bike before pulling out the iPhone.
[Text to Kat: I don't see what benefit it give you, or her, to let her know that you two apparently share me. ]
The first text was sent before he debated what else he might say.
[Text to Kat: If she is in the same group as us, she will ultimately learn who I am. ]
A simple fact that could possibly leave poor Prissy devastated. Chase could be likable, lovable even, but Labyrinthite was practically a dark force of nature. Relationships were not made for the type of man that Labyrinthite was.
[Text to Kat: For the record, I would hold off. I assume she was thrilled about the date due to your reaction and it is likely that she will not like the other man.]

[ Text to Spades: Understood.] It wasn't, really -- Not completely, at least. It made sense if you weren't a people person; to not point out mutual acquaintances or point out connections. Maybe it also made sense if you were male and didn't understand how young women in and just beyond their late teens processed things, especially where men were concerned. [ Text to Spades: She was thrilled about the flowers. And the ice cream. Might have been bragging a little bit.] [ Text to Spades: It's okay, though. She bought me dinner. And cheesecake.] [ Text to Spades: Are we still on for field trip this week?]
