The dark-coated lioness moved silently through the dead grass. Tail tip flicking she crept forwards, shoulder blades standing proud under thick fur, razor-like in appearance. Her ears were pricked, focused on the prey grazing a short distance off. Every move was slow and methodical, muscles bunched tight with patient readiness. To watch her was to watch a killer, honed and skilled, comfortable in the roll of murderer. Suddenly she exploded forwards, scythe-like claws slashing through the soft fur of her target to dig into bone. Fangs opening wide only to close on the long elegant throat, cutting off the beast's bleat of distress in mid-breath. For a few seconds the creature struggled madly, each kick weaker than the last until eventually the body stopped twitching and lay still. Lifting her head Kizuka released the blood-soaked flesh of the now limp neck and licked her muzzle, barely even out of breath. An easy kill.

Some might wonder what a reaver was doing out in the roguelands alone. Had there been anyone around that as familiar with the pride of killers that lived atop the northern cliffs. But Kizuka had been careful to come to an area away from her pride’s regular hunting ground. She needed…. to not think for a while. She was tired of it all, tired of fighting the Captain, tired of constantly fighting the urge to claw his face off. And she still didn’t know what to think of her last adventure. Meeting a god had been unusual. The fact that the God had been the God of Hate had seemed amusingly appropriate at the time. And she had certainly embraced the outlet for all her rage. But afterwards, it was as if he had sucked the hate right out of her and now she just felt…. tired. Still, it was a nicer feeling than the anger that perpetually crawled under her skin when ever Ragnvard was around. So, once Neltharion had left, she had put off going back to the pride and had decided to camp out here for a while. Hunting and sleeping and exploring. It was a kind of weird holiday for her. Away from everything thing and everyone she knew. It was pleasant, in a strange, silent kind of way. She would have to go back soon, she had left her thrall back at the den and while Kiso wouldn’t starve, Kizuka didn’t trust her fellow Reavers not to mess with the lioness when Kizuka herself wasn’t around to beat them silly for it.

The scent of fresh blood pulled her thoughts back to the slowly cooling body that lay before her and she lowered her head, ripping open the flank with one powerful wrench of her head.

Can't go home.
Can't not go home.

Afraid to go home.
Afraid not to go home.

Semanggi would find her eventually and when he did he would make sure she regretted the thought even crossing her mind. She was used to living a life in servitude to her father. That part didn't bother her so much as the thought of knowing his disappointment—and the resulting beating that would ensue—when she returned empty pawed from an entire day of hunting.

If not for that red pelted lion eating her hyraxes, maybe she could have saved herself from her sire's wrath for a day. They had been small, but it was better than nothing. Sulking on a flat slab of rock, she flattened herself tightly against the warm stone at the sound of some innocent beast's death rattle, ears tightening against her head nervously.

The scent of its blood, metallic and warm in her nostrils was tortuously tantalizing, but the fear of who might be lurking nearby made Menthe refuse to budge. If it was that big, red male again, she wasn't sure she would make it away unscathed this time.

Something, some sense told her that she was not alone. Someone was nearby, hiding. Lifting her head she looked around while she licked blood from her muzzle. Someone.... Narrowing her eyes she pushed her senses outwards, activly focusing now on the weak feeling of another breathing close by. Standing, abandoning her kill with all the casualness of a supreem fighter, she padded slowly along, head up and tail high. Soon enough her broad circling brought the scent of another to her nose. A lioness, and a hungry one at that. Ears twisting back and forth she closed in on the rock, figureing the stranger had to be on the other side.

"Who are you?" She asked in a commanding tone even as she started to move around the rock, giving it a wide birth incase the stranger was hostile, but nevertheless she would discover her watcher.

Menthe hadn't expected the stranger to come seeking her. After all, with a fresh kill it was important to eat quickly or avoid having what you had worked so hard for stolen right out from under your nose. She had just learned that first hand, hadn't she? To leave it behind in order to investigate a strange smell or a distant noise, that was just begging for trouble, wasn't it?

Yet she could hear the paw-steps that circled around her, slowly growing closer, her ears flattening so tightly against her head that they nearly disappeared, body pressed into the rock beneath her and against her side as if she might, but some miracle blend into it and disappear from view. She didn't want to fight and was far too exhausted to run, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too.

When the dark, powerful lioness appeared like a shadow from around the corner, Menthe buried her face between her paws, dry nose pushed against the dirt smudged stone beneath her, face hidden as her small, muffled voice whispered timidly. no one.

When the invader came into view Kizuka took a moment to control her surprise. For she had never seen anything as pathetic as the skinny lioness cowering against the rock in her entire life. Even the thralls back home typically showed more guts than this rogue, including her own Kiso, who was by far the most timid lion Kizuka had met, until today.

"No one hu...." She replied, eyeballing the green and cream female with a kind of puzzled confusion, her voice heavily laced with sarcasm. "Well then, since no one is here, then no one will mind if I stay a while." She replied, and promptly lay down right in front of the cowering stranger.

Kizuka was not known for her patience and almost immediately she reached over and lightly nudged the other with her toes. "So what's your name? And why in the name of the stormlords are you hiding out here?" She asked, curious and intrigued despite herself.

Glad that the other couldn't see her grimace of dismay with her face hidden, the skinny lioness said nothing in response in hopes the other would eventually grow bored of her and leave. After all, she still had a fresh kill awaiting her and most animals would only bother a holed-up turtle for so long before they grew bored and found better things to do. If she could be patient like the turtle this would all be over soon. She hoped.

Flinching when the stranger nudged her, she hurriedly drew her paws in closer, tucking them under her body and adjusting her figure so that she was nearly a ball of green stained white fur without any limbs. Silently, she chanted a desperate plea. Please go away.

As the other lioness huddled Kizuka snorted derisively. "Oh for the gods sake! I'm not going to eat you." She huffed, pulling her head back as the stranger shrunk even further. Shaking her head she stood up and poked the female's rump none too gently.

"Get up." She ordered, her tone the no-nonsense one she usually used to address the pride's thralls. "Now." She added, in case the female decided it was an optional suggestion and not the order it really was. "Come along, you are going to eat." She growled, poking the pathetic ball of terrified fur again. This one reminded her so closely of Kiso that she wondered whether she was cursed to find rogue lionesses that desperately needed to be rescued from themselves.

Eat me?! Menthe felt her head pop up unexpectly, as if uncontrolled by her own actions, or perhaps it was just that she couldn't control her own surprised reaction. If the lioness had a kill not far off—and the painted female assumed it was hers based on the scent of blood that lingered on her—why would she eat a bony lioness? Then again, maybe she'd do it just to be cruel.

Thinking back to the red pelted male she had run across, Menthe flinched repeatedly as she was prodded by the larger and far more intimidating huntress. I-I'm not hungry! She wanted badly to shout at the other in hopes the shadow might give up and leave her alone, but she wasn't accustomed to not following orders and her stomach growled so pitifully at the thought of food that those soft blue eyes could only stare at the antagonistic stranger with confusion and uncertainty as a single word came to mind. ...why?

The question caused Kizuka to pause, thinking for a long moment, eventually she shrugged, black shoulders rippling under the glossy fur. "Because I just killed and can spare it?" Kizuka was hardly hungry herself. Hunting had been mostly about passing the time, as she had planned to take most of it back to the pride, or rather, she would have gone back and then sent a couple of thralls back out here to fetch it. Then it would have been added to the food store the pride shared. Kizuka wasn't a charitable lioness, but she was a practical one.

Pushing the green patched female's rump once again she motioned past the rock to where her kill lay slowly bleeding into the grass. "Come along, before one of those mangy hyenas sniffs it out."

Tapping the tip of her tail against her hip where it curled around her body, the tiny female still looked uncertain, or rather—guilty. She was supposed to be bringing home food for her father, yet here she was about to eat a meal she hadn't even killed. Maybe the day could be salvaged after all and her companion would let her bring some of the carcass home with her to Semanggi.

Scooting forward a few steps in surprise when she was nudged again, Menthe meekly followed her nose to the scent of warm blood, licking the crimson fluid before it could seep into the dry earth Her stomach kicked like an angry zebra, but she resisted the urge to dive in nose first and gorge herself until she couldn't move.

Instead, she stared at the beast, its glassy eye leering eerily back at her. Tipping a hopeful glance at the generous lioness drawing up beside her. Can... I take it to my father instead? N-not all of it, of course, just the part you want me to have.

The dark female followed her unexpected guest as the patchy female approached the cooling body of kill. Flopping down to one side Kizuka pinned the rump with her paw and tore a mouthful free, all while the other lioness stood staring at it.

The question surprised her and she lifted her head, eyeing the rogue. "No." She replied flatly, frowning at just how skinny the other female was. "Eat your fill, if there is any left from our meal, then you can take some." She studied the lioness with narrowed eyes for a long moment, "And don't pretend to be full before you have eaten properly. You are skin and bone. I'm not inviting him to my kill. I'm inviting you." Her tone was flat and hard, allowing no argument or question. Kizuka didn't know who this male was, but if he forced his half-starved daughter to hunt for him, she had half a mind to go hunt him down and end him.
