Freedom was just within their grasp. A new life, free of pain and death. A part of him realized that he would most likely be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life, but if he could get far enough away - to the other end of the world even - then maybe he'd be safe.
Quote: Sugar Sugar could barely breathe. She had never run so much in her life, and her injuries were doing nothing to help her. It was slowly registering that she was free. Free from beatings and that herd of evil mares and stallions that used her as a punching bag. Free. Tears began to further cloud her vision, and she sucked in a gasp as her hoof caught a gnarled root. She pitched forward and into the ground with a painful thud and let out a pained whine, her tongue instinctively searching out the holes where there used to be teeth. She spat out a mouthful of blood and struggled to her hooves with a sigh.
"Sorry, let's keep go - ...." Malenki was gone. "Malenki?"

"Sugar?!" he yelled. Maybe she took a different way. A different turn perhaps? His mind raced. He couldn't go back. He was already so far, and he couldn't pinpoint just when he'd stopped hearing her hooves and heavy breaths. He had been so focused on getting away... He had lost track of his only friend. Inwardly he cursed. It was getting dark and it wasn't safe to turn back. In the morning he would circle around and find her. He settled against a tree and finally let his body rest after the grueling run.
Quote: Sugar She had spent a decent amount of time panicking over Malenki's disappearance before she started walking again. Her abused ankle was not making things easier. Her new injury, coupled with her older ones, was making it impossible to go any further. But still she continued to drag herself further into the forest. It was getting darker and the nightlife around her chirped and hummed. Sugar kept looking around for Malenki, but she didn't think he would come searching during the night. At least they were free from Lux. As long as they stayed that way, life would be so much better in the long run.
Sugar stopped suddenly. It was quiet. Eerily quiet. When had it gotten so quiet? She looked around. She had dragged herself into a... cemetery? It was foggy and silent and devoid of life, save for one lone gnarled tree.
"How peculiar," she whispered, walking slowly to the base of the tree. With no one around, this seemed like a safe place to settle for the night. With a hiss, she lowered her battered body to the ground and curled up against the base of the tree. Her eyes closed and she quickly fell asleep.

Sugar sputtered and coughed as she inhaled a lungful of dust.

Bloodshot eyes flew open and a guttural moan worked it's way out of her throat. She tasted blood... and it was so sweet and perfect. Looking down at the remains of the bear between her hooves, she smiled. The aches and pains of her injuries were gone. She was so strong.
She was free.
