Malion had not been surprised when the love letter had arrived. It was not his first, but it was certainly his most...poetic. Also, the first time someone had drawn his portrait. He was flattered, of course, but also intrigued.

He'd had to look up the reference to this "Pygmalion" the sender had mentioned. After all, what were the changes his very own name 'Malion' was a part of that pyg-such-and-such? It seemed like fate calling. So, he answered the letter, said, where to meet?

When the sender had called, as per his request, the voice on the line was male, soft, nearly whispery, and clearly very nervous. Well, that was fine. Gender didn't much matter, as Malion had dabbled with all manner of lovers before. And the manners of this newest possibility pleased Malion also. He could feel himself puffing up as he conversed, his voice drawling a little more than maybe he shoulda let it... but... It wasn't every day one got a secret admirer this genuine.

So, yes, he arranged for them to meet on the pitch. After all, he was comfortable there, it was a wide open space which made it safe if the kid bolted, and if he didn't show, Malion wouldn't look like a fool since he'd be standing on the very grass he practised on four times a week.

He'd dressed his finest. He'd arrived early. And now, he stood, waiting to see what the whispery-voiced admirer looked like.

With a last-minute twinge of panic, he sincerely hoped he was at least good looking.

Galan had gathered up all of his nerves when he sent off the portrait to the beautiful Junior he'd seen during the Hunter's Jubilee. And then, like a bad dream, he'd gone back to regular life and tried to forget about it. He hadn't told Lavi or Gany, and really, a part of him berated himself for acting so foolishly. After all, he knew nothing about the boy. He might be an arrogant a**. He might be an unhinged wreck.

But he had looked so...glorious, chatting with his friends, surrounded, the centre of attention, one well-used to the spotlight, gregarious, easy, confident. He had been....

Sexy.

Galan felt himself blushing at the recollection and then squeaked as he caught sight of the time. He'd be late! He'd spent so long tying to look presentable that he was going to keep him waiting. Him. Malion.

He was even called Malion. He honestly hadn't known that when he wrote his poem about the classical sculptor, Pygmalion. He hoped his oject d'affection didn't think him a stalker or worse!

Scrambling for his satchel with trusty sketchbook and pencil-tin inside (just in case!), he ran out the door and down towards the sports fields.

He was puffing heavily by the time he sprinted across the field, only slowing halfway as he looked up and realized that Malion was already standing there, at centre field, waiting and watching him jog up. Embarrassed, and blushing bright teal, he slowed to a more decorous gait and tried to re-smooth his hair into place.

As he came to a stop before the taller Junior, he realized Malion was likely older than him, and looked to be around a strapping 16. Galan felt immediately shy and had to grab his tail rather than allow it to curl cowardly around his ankle.

"H-hello..." he breathed at last, gazing up on this god among students, itching for his sketchbook with the way the gloaming light glinted off the ornament in his dark hair, the pale marking around the vibrant eyes, the little hollow of shadow at the exposed throat. As Malion smiled, Galan felt his heart leap up into his throat.

He saw the boy come literally trotting over the field and could tell at a glance that this was not a kid used to exercise. He was small and thin, and...a Daydream? Interesting. They were only recently working on integrating Daydreams into the Endzone sporting rules, but he hadn't had much opportunity to interact with many. As the boy came to a stop, Malion noted the twisting tail, the oblong ears, the cute little fangs sticking out one side of his mouth. Goblin. He grinned.

The boy offered a faltering greeting and Malion took pity on him. The Goblin was obviously terribly nervous.

"You must be Galan," Malion offered with an easy smile. He closed the distance between them and held out one well-manicured hand. "It's nice to finally meet you. Did you have anything in mind for our date?" Malion let his gaze leave the blushing face almost reluctantly and sweep over the pitch instead. There was something in the way this Galan looked at him that he very much liked. It wasn't just the clear adoration, or the shy awe...there was a hint of attraction there. Perhaps Galan was older than he looked, or perhaps he was an early bloomer, but there was a distinct note of desire in the way his eyes were drinking him in. Malion very much liked being looked at that way. He felt his heart beat a little faster.

"It's a beautiful day," he commented. "Did you want to go for a stroll? Or, did you have a destination in mind? A spot of lunch?" He looked back into that upturned face and felt himself offering a flirtatious, slow smile. "What's your pleasure?"

When Malion turned his dashing smile on Galan, the little Goblin felt his knees turn to rubber and had to used all of his concentration to not collapse right there on the grass. Dreams were supposed to stay in sleeping, not walk into life to stand before you! He felt himself blush all the harder and hated being this exposed. There was no where to hide, nothing to shield himself with. He was on full display, and Malion's brilliant eyes seemed to be looking right down to his soul.

Galan struggled to find his voice and reached out to accept the offered hand in greeting. The soft fur of that paw was silky and downy and warm. Galan felt himself offering a joyous smile in reply and managed to nod in assent.

At last Malion looked away and Galan took a deep breath, trying to get a grip. The taller Junior was suggesting activities for their... Wait, what? Their date?? Was that what he thought this was?? And if so, did that mean he....liked Galan? But how, he knew nothing about Galan!

Mind racing to try to process this thunderbolt, Galan stumbled mentally through the options: walk, hang out, eat?
"W-we could..." He swallowed hard. "We could...do all three?" It was more of a question than a decision. Pull yourself together, Galan! You can do this! "Do you know a good place for lunch nearby?" he managed at last, with some semblance of decorum.

Bless him, the little one was trying so hard! Malion grinned happily and offered his arm to escort his date. "Sounds a treat! Are you a fan of Grimm cooking?" he asked, thinking of a favourite haunt near here, a slow-cooked smokehouse that did wonderful pulled roast and braised ribs.

As they walked along, taking an easy, leisurely stride, Malion cast his glance down to find the sweet face upturned to him with a beaming smile. How adorable!

"So tell me about yourself, Galan. What are your passions? What do you do with your time?" It was very much his intent to vet this admirer on their date. If the youth was worth seeing, he'd make a point of seeing him again, if not, now was the time to quash any potentially growing infatuations before they became problematic or mutually embarrassing.

Galan offered a happy shrug. "I haven't tried it yet, but I do love to try new food!" It was easier, falling into step with him, walking, and when Malion offered his arm, Galan hesitantly took it. Brought close with the Grimm-Imp Hybrid, the soft soapy smell wafted to him, and Galan took a nice, deep breath. Between that comforting scent and the silken fur of Malion's forearm in his fingers, he felt...at home.

Galan took a deep breath and allowed his light frame to lean a little more closely, to tuck a little tighter to the older Junior's side. Malion didn't seem to mind, if anything, as Galan gazed up adoringly, the handsome stranger offered a beneficent smile and Galan felt himself blush all the brighter.

"Oh...ah..." Galan fought to gather his words, his senses all twitterpated. "I'm a painter. An artist...as you probably already guessed. From the portrait..." Galan trailed off. That was awkward. What if Malion didn't like how he'd been portrayed, and now Galan was going and drawing attention to it... "And...and books? I like reading them. And being read to..."

Quick, say something smart!

"What about you? What are your hobbies?"

Malion blinked. He had assumed the boy had seen him play and that was how he'd become enamoured. If he hadn't... "Do you watch sports at all? I play for the Academy: Endzone primarily, but also Track, a bit of soccer. You haven't seen me play?" Malion tried his best to keep the wistfulness from his voice. He sincerely had hoped this boy was an admirer of his skills. If not, well, there was always time to convert someone.

"Aside from that, I don't have many hobbies. I like hanging with my friends. I like being social, going to parties, chatting, dating..."

"Oh..." was all Galan managed to say. If Malion considered dating a 'hobby' perhaps he wasn't as perfect as Galan had initially thought... Still, he was just getting to know the taller Junior, he oughtn't jump to conclusions.

"I don't much watch sports..." Galan pondered the idea, imagining watching this handsome Nightmare strutting out across the field, body bent to his task, sheen of sweat glittering in the light and felt a smile bloom over his lips. "...but I think I would like to watch you play very much! Tell me when your next, er...'match' is, and I'd like to attend."

He had a bit more bounce in his step, tail swishing along behind him, hands starting to itch to draw his companion again. Looking forward, he caught sight of the little eatery tucked in to a strip of stores across the street. He stepped up to the curb to wait for a chance to hurry across between the carriages.

As Galan stepped up to the curb, Malion drew up close beside him, close enough to feel his heat. The way the Goblin fit in against his side was pleasing; the sweet little twitch to his curling tail when he was enjoying himself was endearing; the eagerness to try new things was promising. Malion ticked three key squares off his mental Dating Checklist and grinned to himself.

As the traffic cleared, Malion slid a hand against the small of the Goblin's back and guided him across the busy street to the Grimm restaurant. With a little bob of his head in a mock-bow, Malion opened the door and gently ushered his date inside.

The restaurant was busy, as it usually was in later afternoon. The place catered to lunch and dinner, and due to its hearty food, close proximity to the Academy, and good price, it was popular with students. Flashing his best smile at the hostess, Malion called above the din,

"Got a cozy table, Vanesa?"

"Malion, back again?" Vanesa, the Grimm hostess, teased cheerfully. "It's a good thing you run all those laps to keep this meatloaf off your figure!" At this, she patted her own portly figure proudly. "For two?" She seemed to be eyeing up Galan with an evaluating and somewhat protective air, but her friendly manner continued as she grabbed a pair of menus and tossed her head to indicate they should follow her.

As they headed deeper into the restaurant, Malion pulled close to the Goblin and slid his hand to rest on the small of his back again, keeping him tucked into his side as they passed tables. Occasionally a fellow student would call out a greeting and Malion flashed a winning smile and offered silky platitudes to each one in turn.

At last, Vanesa stopped at a rear booth, where posters of famous athletes and musicians plastered the walls. She gave the booth a quick wipe and then set down the menus. "Tarel will be your server. Enjoy the meal, gents!" And off she sauntered, her thick tail swinging behind her as she greeted a new couple who had just entered.

"Right, how hungry are you?" Malion asked, turning back to face Galan with an easy smile.

When Malion's hand first touched his back, Galan felt his knees go to jelly beneath him. It was a good thing the Hybrid pulled him in so close, or Galan very well might have stumbled in the road. He was blushing quite brightly by the time they reached the restaurant, and Malion's gallant opening of the door only made him swoon all the more.

Unable to utter a word, Galan stepped inside, and listened meekly as this Vanesa and Malion carried on like old friends. Despite the fact that Malion was just as much a student as he was, the hostess treated him like an adult, or at very least an equal. Towards Galan, she seemed a bit more skeptical. It was all he could muster to offer a shy little smile.

Soon enough, she was leading them through the restaurant, and then, like a heat-pack on a cold day, Malion's hand rested again on his back. Galan's skin went electric, and again he found himself needing to lean against his charming beau to keep himself steady.

As he slipped into the booth, he was ambivalent: relieved to be seated where he couldn't possible fall down, but longing to maintain that touch. It was such a craved sensation, a longed-for moment, and here, for the first time, at last, someone was showing interest in him! Galan's heart was thrumming so rapidly in his chest, he was sure it could be heard above the restaurant's din.

Gazing adoringly at that supple face, it took Galan a moment to realize Malion was asking him a question. Hungry? Starving...though not necessarily for food. "Erm... I'm...moderately hungry?" he offered. "I'll trust you to order for me. I'm not sure what's good."

"Well, it's all good!" Malion replied with an easy laugh. "What kind of food do you like? Meat? Grain? Spice?" He flipped open the small menu, its selections few but mighty. "If you want, I can just order us a selection to share?" He mentally selected a few of his favourite dishes and waited for Tarel to bring the water and soda.

"You know, after dinner, a few of the students are putting on an impromptu concert in the park. If you want, we can head over after we eat? It's just a gang of the local students jamming, but they've got a little stage set up, and the invites have been floating around the dorms for the past week. Looks like it might be fun. Interested?"

Now was when he would start to get a sense of this Goblin. What did he like; what made him tick? If he truly was game for whatever, Malion had a rash of ideas that he could pitch. Outdoor free music was a good place to start.
