Wil was a paragon of reliability. It didn't take much to find the college student when it wasn't school hours (or even when it was). All you had to do was look for the warmest shop window seat, or wander around the college and follow the gentle scent of weed smoke on the breeze. Wil could always be found half dozed somewhere, as he was now on a bench on campus, with a backpack as a pillow and a pair of earbuds in his ears.

Jeremiah had been checking with a few loose ends, seeing if he could turn up any other places where the teens had been seen. It lead him to the college campus and he had finished up questioning a few people.
This had turned into a far more personal case than he had ever thought it would
He was about to head to his car when he smelled the scent on the breeze and let out of a huff of breath. Sure enough, when he followed it, he found Wil asleep on one of the warmest, sunniest benches to be had.
"Azevedo," he said and then realized there was earbuds in his ears and reached to shake him awake.

A normal person would probably jolt being shaken while asleep and lost in the sound of their headphones. Wil's body seemed to shake loosely and slowly, very slowly, he seemed to stir like an overgrown cat. One glassy blue eye cracked and then another. Wil smiled and said overly loud, "Hullo Officer." He then (without sitting up) pulled an earbud from one ear and yawned, "OOOOhhhhhhh'assup?

The air around Wil was always laden with a cocktail of various smoke smells, enough that Jeremiah usually had to take a few steps back because it would have him sneezing. Never mind the loud voice.
He barely held back from the crotchety old man response of you really shouldn't have those in yours ears like that you'll ruin your hearing because of the loud voice. Instead he frowned. "Shouldn't you have already headed home, Azevedo?" Classes had ended for the day and he really was not down with the idea of Wil possibly hanging out to make a deal.
It was terrible of him to just assume things but with Wil? He wasn't necessarily that far off. Not that he had, in moment ever, found anything on the young man.

"What time'sit?" Wil fished deeply into a hoodie pocket for his phone which was well worn, and thumbed over it a few times. Finding the time ellicited another yawn and he blinked sleepily, "Nasir's done soon... I could prob'ly go meet him." He then smiled brightly up at the cranky older man, "Thanks for the wake, man."

Jeremiah was not even sure how Nasir managed to put up with the young man. Clearly he was just being taken advantage of and that was just another thing that did not set well with the detective. It was not his place to say anything.
"You're welcome." That was right on the edge of being sarcastic. He was about to snap off that he should move along, go find Nasir and get on with his life but then ...
Wil was known across town, never mind he also seemed to know everyone around the town. This was an absolutely terrible idea. "Before you go heading off," he said slowly, "but did you happen to know any of the teenagers that went missing?"

Wil blinked at the question and stretched, one arm and then the other, and with each arm he seemed to worm his body upright with a tired wriggle. "Well I think I had an elective class this year with the one girl.." Wil smiled lazily and it was hard to tell if he was being genuine or needed some incentive to jog his memory, "it's hard to remember, you know.. with me bein not great at attendance sometimes." Wil laughed a little, "You can't arrest me for that, can ya?" He pulled his backpack over and fished out something hand rolled. He wouldn't be stupid enough to light up in front of Jeremiah would he? The lighter lit and the smell of some spiced leaf (not drugs sorry copper) wafted to Jeremiah's sensitive nose, "One of my friends may have been sayin something about those kids though... it's a little hazy...."

Jeremiah just growled low. "No, I cannot arrest for you that." Not anymore at least. Had he still be in high school the detective could have gotten a hold of the truancy officer and Wil would be taken in.
He took a quick step back, hand waving at his face and nose to get rid of the smell. Except it was too late and he sneezed. Once it started, it turned into a quick chain of four sneezes. When he was done Jeremiah was slightly red faced and clearly annoyed. "Cut the bullshit, Azevedo. If you know something about the missing teens, it would be appreciated."
Or just continue withholding information. Nasir could meet him at the police station because he was being uncooperative.

"I mean I can point you to my friend, I mean," Wil blinked again and smiled, "like if you're looking for a more reliable source... Oh wait .. did he go on vacation..?" He rubbed his eyes a bit before blowing his smoke slightly away instead in the cop's direction in response to Jeremiah's sneezes, "Are you allergic to me Detective?"

"Azevedo." Jeremiah's voice shifted, that tone of authority he got whenever Wil had pushed his luck a little too much. "I was not allergic the last time you asked, I'm not allergic now. The smoke of whatever thing you are smoking, on the other hand, is a different matter."
Never mind not illegal, never mind he couldn't just arrest the damn layabout. Jeremiah was a carefully contained bundle of I really want to put you into goddamn jail cell for a night.
"Your friend's name. I'll find them." Jeremiah found people no matter what, so help him. Less time around Wil, less his blood pressure would elevate.

"It's Joe.." Wil scratched his curly head and shrugged, "Joe somethin... He's just in my phone as Joe." Wil flipped through his texts, "No. yeah. He's totally on vacation see?" The screen was thrust towards Jeremiah's face. He yawned again and scratched his head, picking up his bag to walk to Borr's and meet Nasir, "But uhhhh he said his girlfriend's brother went on a date with a kid that was in other missing kid's homeroom." Typically the info came from a friend of a friend of a friend. That's how things worked. "But it's that usual weird stuff you know.. going to find the lady at the beach and stuff." Will waved his hand dismissively. It was a well passed around rumor, some even said they met her, others let the story get a little too wild and he knew it just wasn't true. Wil grinned at Jeremiah and flipped a tarot card from somewhere to wave freely, he was known for loitering and fortune telling, "But we know that stuffs bunk... right?"

If anyone had ever wondered where Jeremiah's eye twitch had come from, the source was sitting on the bench in front of him. The detective swore that the reason his blood pressure had spiked up was because of Wil. He had been an annoyance for years.
He pushed the phone out of his face with a growl. Joe. Joe Shultz? Joe Williams? THERE WERE TOO MANY JOES IN TOWN. <******** hell.
"Bunk. Right." Jeremiah finally let out a growl with a shake of his head. The rumors he knew, the things about the witch at the beach. All useless information that he already had. It really had been entirely stupid to even ask. "Thank you for your," non-existent, why did I even bother asking, "help, Azevedo. Get to wherever you're going."
Leaving. Now. Before both eyes started to twitch.

"Well?" Wil bounced to his feet much lighter than he should have. He was infuriatingly pleasant to the police officer and it was hard to tell if Wil knew he was pissing him off so badly. "You been up there?" He weaved a bit in front of Jeremiah a moment, "To find the woman? Did the kids go there?" His glassy blue eyes were interested though, "You gonna go up there???" He smiled and lifted his eyebrows. Apparently Wil wasn't going yet.

Jeremiah, out of reflex, reached out to steady Wil on his feet as if he expected the young man to fall over. He almost instantly pulled his hand back, purposely making it look like it wasn't a jerk back (because it totally was, he did not need to have that smell on his hands).
"That information is part of an on-going police investigation and none of your business." Jeremiah finally frowned at him, arms crossing. "Enjoy your evening, Azevedo." Nipping this in the bud because he was not continuing this conversation any longer. It was time to leave and go do something that would actually get somewhere.
... maybe actually go to that beach.
Goddamnit.

Wil didn't move, didn't walk, and if Jeremiah did he would follow him step by step. "You know, Borr's has a lot of people gathered. Maybe someone knows something there..." He grinned wider, "You driving?"
