It had taken a number of friendly smiles and a good amount of not-so-subtle flirting to wheedle the imp's location out of his fellow nightmares, and in doing so, he had also found out the boy's name. Greer. An annoying name for an annoying kid. But if he was truly so annoying, why was Oz so desperately seeking out his company?

He sighed as he rapped on the door. That was just his way, he supposed. Always looking for new ways to be annoyed. His sigh having ended, the baphomet chuckled instead. Howard would agree wholeheartedly had Oz told him what he was in the middle of. The chimera was forever accusing him of making his own trouble when life got too pleasant.

"Hey! Greer! You in here?" He knocked again.

The imp was fine, kind of. He was embarrassed and snappish, but it would all pass once the baphomet did. The other nightmare was older than he was, after all. He had to graduate soon, right?

Greer had stayed far away from math today knowing his enemy would be there, and as such he was startled out of an unplanned nap by a knocking at his door. He had a sudden suspicion that being forgotten wasn't going to be that easy. Lifting his head off of the textbook he had inadvertently used as a pillow, Greer crossed to the door and crouched low, peering through the crack beneath it. Hooves. Ruddy brown hooves that needed a trim. It had to be him.

How had he found him? How did he know his name?

"What do you want?" he said before realizing he might have gotten away with silence. "Get out of here!"

Well, that hadn't been the response he'd expected. Oz recoiled slightly from the door, pulling back his hand as if something rabid had lunged for his fingers.

"You weren't in class, man." He rattled the knob. "I came to see if you'd died."

Greer snorted. "If I'd died? Really? Why would you care if I had?"

Okay. He supposed that was a little harsh. He might get prickly around the other nightmare, but he didn't want him to die, so why would the baphomet wish that back on Greer? He tugged the door open quickly, hoping to startle his visitor.

"Sorry, I guess. You're just really an a*****e sometimes. It's hard to believe you'd actually be... concerned... that I haven't been coming to class."

He couldn't help the way his fur stood on end when Greer called him an a*****e. It got his blood up, and for a blink Oz longed to attack, both verbally and physically. Just a little fist fight. For fun. He managed to curb his reaction soon after, thinking of Howard's probable response to such antics. His disapproving grimace. Oz sighed.

"I guess I can be one... sometimes," he muttered. "And maybe the only reason I wanted you in class was so I could show you up. To make myself look good." He swallowed. "So... I'm sorry about that. My name's Oz, by the way. And I'd like if it you came back to class, even if there's no competition anymore."

Just to make him look good? Greer huffed, his fluffy tail lashing once, twice, three times before coming to a halt.

"Is that all I'm good for?" the imp began, a genuine flash of hurt crossing his features before he pushed it aside. Greer was a good-natured sort first and foremost, and if some older, borderline bully thought him a little bland, then maybe he was. But he didn't have to be forever. He cleared his throat. "If you think I'm just some... loser, then... well... you're wrong. And if you want me in class, I'll be there to show you how wrong you are." He held out his clawed hand to shake. "I promise. a*****e."

With how things had gone so far, Oz should have anticipated that the imp would continue to surprise him. He had come here to get his doormat back, someone who had made him feel better about himself just by virtue of existing, but instead he'd gained more of a determined, spiky scrap of astroturf. It was a good thing he had hooves. Oz smirked. At least it wasn't sarcastic.

"I accept," he said, enveloping the imp's claws in his own hand. "You can learn to be less of a loser and I can learn to be less of an a*****e." He honestly hadn't said the word a*****e this much in months. Howard wouldn't approve.

The baphomet was smiling an awful lot, and Greer knew he should be more concerned. He wasn't. Now that he knew what Oz's game was, he was more than willing to play along.

"Okay, that's settled. We done?"
