With the court case the previous day, Jeremiah was a day late picking up his prescription for his blood pressure. It was a low dose of amlodipine because he was right on the edge of his blood pressure being an issue. Considering that his father had died, not that many years ago, from a heart attack it was something that he was making sure was taken care of.

He had almost he hoped for a line when he got to the pharmacy but did not see one. The detective let out a breath, heading up to the counter. Perhaps Rosi was not working today, perhaps he would get out of here without hearing some bit of something, perhaps ...

Jeremiah was out of luck; Rosi was always working.

The blonde came out of the back, surgical mask covering her face and large rounded glasses hiding her pale blue eyes. It was flu season and she was taking extra precautions to make sure the Pharmacy stayed open; they were already down two members of staff and she was not going to be the next one to fall. She was the last line of defence, the health of the town weighed on her shoulders and hers alone. She was basically a hero, an unappreciated one, but a hero none the less.

On seeing the out of breath, silver haired gentleman at the desk she smirked, pulling down the mask over her chin and throwing a wicked smile in his direction. Her teeth were offensively white. "Ahh, Mr Mercer. I thought you stood me up - Or met some kind of bad end at the hands of one of your disgruntled convicts, one or the other." She laughed, ruffling her messy strands of hair. Rosi had clearly watched too many bad police and detective drama's on the TV and her over-active imagination did not help one bit.

She knew her regulars and found it strange that he had not turned up yesterday, Jeremiah was usually very punctual.

She walked over to the desk out front and brought a tray up onto the work surface, long fingers started to flick through envelopes until she came across one labelled 'Mercer'. The blonde pulled out the white package and looked at him, tilting her head to the side, holding his prescription hostage. "How are things at the office?" She was not handing it over until she got what she wanted; information.

"Work, Ms. Polanski, nothing more than that." Jeremiah's face was neutral, blue-green eyes only narrowing slightly at the smile he was being given and the idea that he had met a bad end. "I'd appreciate it if you'd not encourage that kind of talk in regards to any employee of the department."

She really did have a fanciful mind. Not like Algie's, no, but ... More flights of fancy than anything else (or so he assumed). He was reaching out for his prescription as she was pulling it out, inwardly cursing when she did not immediately release it.

Right.

"Business as usual. Courtroom maneuvers and foolish attempts to get out of a crime." It was a deliberately vague answer, not talking about what he was really working on. Jeremiah was reaching out with a hand for his prescription an expectant look on his face.

"Oh Jeremiah, don't take things so personally. I would never wish ill will on anyone; especially not the one detective in the department who has use of my services." Jeremiah was her one and only link to the police force, her way of keeping a tab on the departments shenanigans. The blonde let another sharp laugh leave her lips, pressing her glasses futher up her nose to adjust them to her preferred position. Blue eyes looked him over and then she shrugged.

There was no way he was getting this envelope. At least not if that was the best he was going to offer her. The pharmacist folded her arms and looked casually out the window, her smirk still obvious. "All I am saying is that with the recent disappearances the thought did cross my mind."

Rosi had worked this floor for near ten years, she had seen kids grow up and go off to college and at the same time she had seen babies grow and people pass. Hers was a profession where one needed to be empathetic and she did truly care about all her patients; though admittedly the kids were always the ones that moved her the most.

The only thing worse than a sick kid was a missing one and the news of the students disappearance had deeply hurt her. Like it was one of her own missing. She pouted at him mention of court, thinking he was being a little blunt. "It sounds like you have already decided they are guilty?"

"The man shot his wife. People saw him shoot his wife." Jeremiah frowned, hand pulling back and his arms crossing. "If he is not guilty, then I wonder he's got his good twin tied up." He clearly was not getting his prescription easily but he was not going to, for a moment, think of a man innocent when he had been seen, caught, and otherwise attempted to kill his wife.

His stance shifted, shoulders rolling and taking a deep breath. "It is also best to not spread anything around with the teens missing. Mrs. Mitchell is easily spooked and with some of the stories that are going around ..." Rosi was fixed her with a hard stare. "Just be mindful."

Honestly he had only bits and pieces of the rumors, not the full ones. Jeremiah was reaching the point where he was going to start looking into them because there was always a bit of truth in rumors, it just had to be fished out.

"I didn't say he wasn't guilty." Rosi was throwing the envelope in the air, catching it on the downfall before throwing it upwards once more. Jeremiah was not a jury and in her eyes should remain neutral no matter the circumstances. Having opinions was one thing, making those opinions known around town whilst a trail was ongoing was another. Professionalism was very important to held everyone to a very high standard. Her nose twitched, unamused.

She smiled at his mention of Mrs Mitchell, and shrugged. "Most normal people would be spooked. People talk, you can not protect her from that." Though to be fair Mrs Mitchell was a very sensitive soul, even before all this happened. She stopped playing catch with Jeremiah's medication and instead leant back against the wall. Blue eyes drifting upwards to look at the ceiling as if she was deep in thought.

"It just all seems strange to me. However, if you don't want to hear what I have heard." The blonde smirked in bluff, placing his prescription down on the counter, daring him to take it.

"Ms. Polanski, while I pride myself on being impartial, it is hard to remain being so after three days of trial and more so when the defense tries to ruin the names of honest people." If Rosi had caught him a day or so previously his opinion would have been far, far more neutral and befitting. This was, in all honesty, not the normal Detective Mercer.

Clearly something was amiss.

His frown only got worse at watching her play catch with his prescription and when she set it on the counter, he merely crossed his arms and did not reach for it. Not playing this game because if she wanted him to have it she would have held it out towards him more obviously. "... and what exactly have you heard?"

"Life is hard, Jeremiah." Rosi knew what it was like to be held to a higher mortal standard that what as expected of the average civilian. Like Jeremiah she must remain neutral and at times forget that she was human and that she had feelings. Everyone had the right to medical care; even if she personally did not think they deserved it. That was her hippocratic oath.

The blonde walked around the back of the counter and across the shop floor, flipping the sign in the window so it said it was closed for lunch. She had a cucumber and potato chip sandwich in the staffroom and she was craving it.

Though her words to him might have seemed sharp, there was no indication os spite on her face. Rosi remained at all times, optimistic and cheery looking. It was like a smile was glued to her face. "You are not going to like it very much." She stated, walking over to the staffroom and opening the door wide, jerking her head to invite him in. The least she could do was offer him some refreshment, he was going to be here a while.

"Mainly because it involves the Vampire Lady of Ashdown."

No.

No.

This was the exact opposite of what he wanted. She was inviting him to the staff room. That never meant less than thirty minutes. Jeremiah had just wanted to pick up his prescription and now ...

"I already don't like it," he sighed, giving in and following her. Jeremiah's need to see if her information was useful, if there was something to the rumors about the teen, would be his undoing. "Especially when I hear about her." Not that he had heard many rumors yet but what he had heard he was already frustrated by.

Chasing the bits of truth in rumors to see if it would help find the missing children was not easy.

Rosi made her way into the staffroom and opened the drinks cupboard. It was lined with different alcohols that had been left over from various staff parties and the usual tea and coffee. She even had a cookie jar filled to the rim with various biscuits and treats. "Do you want anything to drink? I have coffee, tea. There is even some wine left from when Susan went on Maternity." That must have been well aged by now, Shaun had turned two not too long ago.

The blonde looked over her shoulder at the table and chairs in the middle of the room, presuming Jeremiah would settle down there. Leaning against the kitchen counter top she pulled her electronic cigarette from her lab coat. "Anyway. The Vampire of Ashdown." She took in a deep drag before beginning her story, the scent of sweet cherries filled the room.

"She has been around for a long time, I first heard about her when I started high school. There was a bunch of us who used to drink beer under the docks and watch the tide come in at night." She was so young back then; she was pretty sure she still had her waist length hair and that James Thornton had not stolen her first kiss yet. Sunny had been around for a very long time, longer than most people knew. It was why she became so nervous when she found out Finn was talking to her. There was this urban legend, nobody knew where it came from but it had been circulating for what seems like forever."

She shrugged and smiled. "That there is a woman who lives in Ashdown, a woman that does not age and will tell you your future for a favour and some smokes."

Jeremiah did not want to think about the staff drinking. He did not need to see that alcohol. "Tea." Don't even start him on wine, he would be so, so bad about it you have no idea. Also wine was best for cooking with. Sitting down was enough of a sign that he was giving in to the fact he was going to be here a while.

The detective had not been here as a teen, instead finding himself in the U.S. and Ashdown in his mid-twenties. "I've heard bits and pieces here and there." Nothing that he had really paid attention to until now. "Seems honestly like something ..." Horror movie. A particularly bad one. One that all the teenagers went to.

"I assume there's rumors around she's tied to the disappearances?" It would make sense if she was the urban legend, the bogeyman that the kids all talked about.

Rosi poured the hot water and turned with a cup of tea in either hand. She sat across the table from Jeremiah, and then she brought one of the cups to her lips, blowing away the stream that was rising from it. It made patterns in the air before it dispersed."Well, all the kids that vanished? All of them went to see her before they went missing. Maybe they did not like what she told them, maybe they did not uphold their end of the bargain." The blonde took a sip of tea and then placed the cup back down on the table, shrugging. "Who knows." She would not even hazard a guess, the paranormal was so far out of her comfort zone it made her nose twitch. Yet, she could not deny Sunny herself was very, very real.

Leaning back against her chair, she once again brought out her electronic cigerette, blue eyes drifting to look out the window at the cloudy skies. "The fact of the matter is; if this was innocent they would have turned up by now, dead or otherwise. The fact that they have vanished means either they themselves or a third party doesn't want them to be found. Now; I do not think three kids have the smarts, means and wit to pull the wool over the eyes of the entire town plus the police force. That woman though - she does. She is not normal that one." Coming from Rosi, that was quite a statement. After all, not many considered her normal.

With a sigh she let smoke escape her lips as she folded her legs, one foot swung back and forth rhythmically.

At least the eletronic cigarettes that Rosi smoked did not make his eyes water or start him sneezing (unlike Wilbur Azevedo) but he still did not like the faint smell in the air from it. The detective gave a slight nod of his head. Obviously he was in agreement to what she said. "I agree, with part of that at least. It is why I'm directing the focus to look in town as there is very little chance for them have to completely disappear. Not here, not with this many people looking for them."

Not just the police department but the entire town at this point.

Jeremiah leaned across the table to pour the smallest dash of cream that anyone had ever seen into his tea cup. The tea? Passable. So, so picky this one. He was holding the cup in his hand, fingers curled around it. That pinky was purposely held in check.

"Is that just more rumors," an eyebrow was raised, "or do you have someone who can back that up as fact? That they saw the kids talking to some strange woman on the beach." He still did not believe in the town rumors. Jeremiah did, however, have to admit that if Rosi Polanski was saying someone was not normal that was certainly someone that was likely to be off.

Never mind that everything seemed to be leading him to check out the beach again.

She is going in for that shot! Yay, awkward flirting.

"It is your job to find the evidence and catch the bad guy. All I can offer is what I have heard. I mean if I could prove it..." It was all rumour at this point, however her source was reliable. The only reason she did not mention him by name was because she did not want to get him involved in this any more than he was. She was very protective of Alesky.

She shook her head and put away her cigarette, pushing her cup to one side and out of the way.
"But I do know. I can feel it in my gut."
She reassured him, looking off to the window once more. It looked like rain. It always looked like rain these days. Something about her body language changed in that moment.

Rosi stood up from the table and walked around the other side, leaning against the wood she reached down and rested a hand on Jeremiah's arm gently. Pastel eyes looked down at the detective and there was a moment of silence. "I... am afraid. Jeremiah."

Jeremiah nodded his head. "If you could prove it, you would have likely already contacted me with information or the tip line." Another drink of his tea and he set down the tea cup, blue-green eyes glancing up when Rosi mentioned feeling it in her gut. The detective could appreciate a gut feeling because he had one himself about the disappearances.

That these weren't runaways, that there weren't drugs involved, that it was very much something else. What that something else was he had not yet figured out.

Blinking at the shift in Rosi, he watched her carefully as she came closer and then blinked again when she was touching his arm. Jeremiah glanced down at the hand on his arm, up towards Rosi's face, and then repeated it once more before he sighed. "Rosi." Not Polanski, not Miss Polanski, but Rosi. He had known her for years after all (and never mind the trouble she had been when younger) and could not quite remember when this had started. "If it is someone kidnapping, you don't fit the profile." Sometimes her mind jumped to things and it was best to be reassuring because he did not need more worried people.

His hand covered hers but only briefly enough to take it off of his arm. "There's nothing to be afraid of. You're safe." A pause and he sighed. "Also you have my personal number," as much as it pained him to admit, "so if you are in real trouble you know very much how to get help immediately."
