"Missing, huh?" The ranger office wasn't really somewhere meant for receiving guests. There were some decent chairs out in the visitor center lobby, but back here, the only seats available besides desk chairs were an old, broken-down couch and a camping chair someone had forgotten to put away. (It was Finn. Finn had forgotten to put it away.) Finn looked at the photographs on the desk again, and then up at Detective Mercer. "Yeah, detective, those are the kids I caught on the beach. We allow overnight camping, but the seashore closes at sundown. I can get the incident report for you if you give me a second." He turned to the computer, which was literally running Windows XP, and jostled it out of sleep. "A couple minutes, actually," said Finn, revising his estimate.

"Yes, it'll be coming up on a month soon." Jeremiah's eyes were cutting to places to sit before he finally just grabbed at one of the other desk chairs and pulled it towards Finn's desk. His small spiral notebook was already out, pen in hand and writing a couple notes down. Finn was confirming what he had already heard but the report might have information for him. "Take your time," he snorted, "they just updated the ones at the department to 10 and ..." The hand with the pen waved towards the machine Finn was using. "I'm used to it." The notebook was flipped closed and slid away into his pocket for the time being. "Had you seen them before you caught them that night?" he asked while waiting for the park ranger to pull the file up.

Finn shrugged - the park got a lot of visitors, and he only recognized the ones who were either regulars or regular problems. "No," he said. "Can't say I had, but that doesn't mean they weren't here. There are about six other rangers on staff here. We go all hours." The computer finally finished waking up, and he opened the incident database, which was sure to take another three minutes to load. "When I saw them," Finn continued, "I warned them about how dangerous the water is this time of year. About rip currents and sudden storms. Gotta hope they listened to me, or they're long gone." He stared down at the photographs. It didn't stretch credulity to him that the kids might have fallen through into the Otherworld, but there was no telling how long someone could survive on the other side - Finn had never tried to set any endurance records with his stays. And he didn't think Detective Mercer would be much amused by that mumbo-jumbo. The report finally loaded. Finn hit print before the computer had a chance to decide to freeze up again, and the ancient laserjet in the corner spurred to life. "Grab that for me, yeah?"

"I may want to talk to some of the other park rangers at some point, just to see if they saw anything themselves." Jeremiah had been directed towards Ranger Derouen because he was the one that had caught, had been the one to see them.
While the file was being brought up, he was going over everything in his head. It did not set well with him the way it all seemed to dead end. As far as he could tell they had not left the town. No bus tickets bought, no train tickets ... The fact it seemed like the teens had disappeared into the town itself was strange. Jeremiah had no idea that was even possible in Ashdown.
"Sure," he replied, pushing himself up from the chair and going to the print-out. Blue-green eyes were glancing it over as he came back to the desk. "You've had people putting flowers out of them, haven't you? At the beach."

"Yeah, they are," replied Finn, blue eyes following Jeremiah to the printer. "Bit of a problem, really--" He cut himself off. Detective Mercer probably didn't care. He'd go out later, personally, and sort through all the crumpled plastic and soggy paper before it could get swept out by the tide. "We had to close the beach," he said, changing the subject slightly. "In case anything washes up. But that hasn't stopped the kids. I can give you a lift up there in a bit if you need one - someone should be coming by to break me in a few minutes." "I'll ask around the post," he added. "See if anyone else saw anything and wants to talk to you." See if Sunny hadn't seen anything. He could still feel her damned storm prickling at he back of his neck, like a swell bound to break. If Mercer doesn't get to her first.

"No, no lift necessary. I've got to get back to the department after I'm done talking with you." Jeremiah went back and sat back in the chair he had pulled up, notebook back out and another note written down to come back to the beach later to look. "I assume it wouldn't be an issue to check out there later?" He flipped the notebook shut. "... and I'd appreciate if you would do that. Just let me know if anyone does." Jeremiah was reaching into his pocket, a business card pulled out and held out for Finn. It read Det. Jeremiah Mercer in neat lettering along with a phone number and email, as well as the phone number for the police department. "That's my direct line to get a hold of me."

Finn nodded. "Yeah," he said. "I'll make a note of it. If anyone gives you trouble, flash your badge and tell them that Ranger Derouen approved it." Ranger Derouen. He had to pause and consider that that title made him sound like one hell of a responsible adult. Well then.He took the card and stuck it at the bottom of the computer screen, wedged into the monitor housing and obscuring the START menu. "I'll be sure to, sir." Azuredreams Wrap I guess??? I'm so sorry this was so short /weeps

"Thank you, Ranger Derouen." Jeremiah inclined his head and pushed himself up to stand. He leaned for a moment and plucked up the incident report. "I'll also take the incident report with me." Another note to be added to the case file. He did not remember seeing it with the statements or otherwise some of the beat cops had been out getting. With a short nod, another thank you for his time, and a shake of his head (no weird handshake), Jeremiah left the park ranger to his office and left. At least he had a few places in mind now to look into himself. Silverah still had a good time! let's do this again soon >D (also le end)
