There was simply no way around it. Aleksy needed an employee. Someone to do all the dirty, grimy work of maintaining the plants in the shop, taking deliveries, all of that. He simply couldn't do that, do the work of front-of-house, and get his gallery work and commissions done on time. For now, it was fine, but he wasn't going to risk the hit to his reputation that loomed closer and closer with every busy day. Luckily, the local high school maintained a 'job listing' in its weekly newspaper. (Why a high school needed a newspaper, Aleksy wasn't quite sure.) It was only ten dollars, so he'd got himself added to the listing and promptly weathered the storm of what felt like a thousand high schoolers beating down his door. He was down to the last applicant, finally. There were some with high points, some with low, but mostly he wasn't pleased. Maybe the college would be a better place to look, even though Aleksy wasn't near old enough to impress his boss-ness upon them. At least they wouldn't ask questions like can I do my homework at the counter--b***h, no, if he had his way they'd be doing minimal counterwork at all! So. Leslie St. Whatever. Aleksy flipped his pen in his hand and stared at the door like it had done something to personally offend him, waiting.

Leslie St. Peter was looking for a job involving very little people interaction and more plant interaction. The petite teenage boy just needed some extra cash to get more plants, bigger pots, fertilizers, things like that. Gardening was a way he actually dealt with the problems he faced in his day to day life. It was during breakfast one morning in the cafeteria in his high school that he found a job listing in the paper. It definitely perked Leslie's attention and he actually applied and had gotten a callback! Or whatever it was that it was called. Leslie didn't know. The teen had made himself look good. Tamed his wild hair into a ponytail, wore his best shirt and jeans and his every day sneakers. He even washed the dirt from his fingernails just in case the interviewer looked at them. The want for this job was real and he was hellbent and determined to get it! Sure, the draw backs were going to be personal issues for him; there would be people interactions. For a guy who wore his heart on his sleeve this could go very wrong very quickly. But he rolled up on his bike to the correct place and walked in with all the confidence of a mouse. "H-hello..?"

Wow. This one looked... young. Aleksy blinked once, twice, and then nodded to himself. "Come in," said Aleksy. "Don't be shy. You're not doing yourself any favors, you know." He gestured to the high bar stool against the wall, then pointed to the other side of the counter. "Your name's Leslie, yes? Leslie St. Peter?"

Not doing himself any favors? God, Leslie was already messing this up. He gave a nervous smile and nodded lightly at the question. "Sorry. Yes I'm.. Leslie St. Peter. I'm seventeen and haven't had any work experience before? But I garden at home and I haven't had any bad things happen to my plants.." He pulled out a few photos from a small parcel he had brought with him. These photos showed the vines, the vegetable garden, trees, even. Nothing too exotic, but hopefully it showed he had a really good green thumb. With that done, he took a seat on the tall bar stool he basically had to climb to get on and waited with nervous energy.

Aleksy huffed out a sigh, silently, and took the photos. The plants were in good health, he saw that right away; they looked cared for, which was better. His florist's eye marked the signs of pruned leaves, recent weeding. Then he looked over at the shelf adjacent to the window, where a variety of small ornamental plants soaked in the late afternoon sunlight (what little there was in early March). "We mostly work with already-cut flowers," said Aleksy, putting the pictures down on the counter between himself and Leslie. "But we do keep a stock of live flowers for gifts. If I hire you, your duties would include keeping those. However... how are you at following directions? If I tell you to restock the fridges or refill the buckets, will you need things explained twice?"

"No, sir." He said after a moment's pause. He was glad the pictures helped his case. He might have a weak personality, but honestly, Leslie took a lot of pride in what he did. "I'm very good at taking direction. Otherwise I wouldn't... really know what I'm doing with plants.." Did that sound sarcastic? God he hoped not. He wasn't trying to sound sarcastic or like he knew more than that. The brunet pushed his hair back into place and then sat still, hands in his lap. Did this mean he had the job?

Aleksy nodded. It seemed like the kid did have a spine, when you got down to it; he approved. "Alright," he said. "Come back tomorrow afternoon. Between three and four? I'll have paperwork for you to fill out and then we can do your schedule." He had a good feeling about this one, alright?

The smile that appeared on the teenager's face was one of pure joy. He laughed and nodded and held out his hand for the other man. "You won't regret it. I'll be a good employee!" An actual giggle left Leslie's throat even as he hopped off the bar stool. He felt like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders and he didn't even realize it had settled there. His first job interview and he managed to land a job not in fast food. Maybe things weren't as bad as he made them out to be. "Thank you so much!"

Okay, so... that was adorable. Aleksy found himself smiling a little more sincerely. "It's not a favor," he grumped, but hey: he'd had his first job once, too. He got it. "I'll see you tomorrow, Leslie," he said. "Don't be late."

Leslie nodded and then gathered his photos back up, put them away and then raced out the door. "I won't be late!" Sheer joy poured from every pore he had as he made his way the way he came not long before. It was a short interview, but he already had a very productive day.
