The power had been out for about an hour when the teacher finally gave the okay to leave for the dorms. It wasn't storming yet, but the wind was blowing something fierce and knocked some trees over on the power lines. "Seeing as the power isn't returning, we have decided to let you all leave early." The teacher paused to let the excited chatter die down, "you will be escorted home by your upperclassmen for your safety. Please gather your things and head toward the front doors. We would like you all to move quickly to avoid being caught in the oncoming rain." Quin was grinning from ear to ear as he sprang up and followed his classmates out to the halls. Like the rest of the students, he gathered his things and put on his raincoat. "It's gonna get wet outside, so you have to go in my backpack." He spoke to his stuffed animal as if it heard him and zipped him away before putting the backpack on. On the way to the doors, Quin made a pitstop at the bathroom.
It was dark in the bathrooms without the power, but he didn't mind! A little darkness never scared him! Unfortunately, Quinton didn't make this a quick break. When nature calls, you gotta do what you gotta do. Once the freshling was done, he flushed and went to wash his hands. The toilet sounded weird, but he just gave a shrug. It wasn't his problem. With his hands washed, in cold water since he couldn't get the hot water to work, he left the bathroom. It was quiet in the halls now.
The school was eerie without lights to brighten the way. Since he had been sitting in darkness for at least 15 minutes, his eyes had adjusted to the darkness. Within no time he was at the door. Where was everyone? "Hellooooo?" He yelled into the darkness, waiting for a response. While he waited, he looked around trying to see if anybody had stuck around. Nobody was in the main offices, or in the library. Well that was mean! Nobody waited for him. The Baphomet huffed and turned on his heels to make the short trek back to the front door. So much for getting an escort to the dorms.

Oh no. Oh no, no, no. Nefertiti had squeezed her eyes shut as soon as she saw the lights start to flicker. This was not good. Not good at all. There was just something about the pitch darkness that she found unsettling. Maybe it was the fact that she didn't know what was out there? Something could be right in front of her and she'd never know and that was what scared her the most. Without even meaning too, she began emitting a low purr because she was so worried about the situation she was in.
Her ears perked up as the teacher talked about the situation, she was already in the process of shoving all her belongings into her backpack. As soon as their teacher dismissed them she booked it out of the classroom. The bakeneko got a few feet before looking around. DANG. She was still pretty new at the academy and the halls all looked the same...she was so eager to leave the building she had gotten separated from the rest of the class and now she didn't really know the best way to get out. Nefertiti started to go into panic mode. Her eyes widened, her ears flattened, her tail began to flick about, and she did her best to fight back the tears that were forcing their way to her eyes.
That's when she heard it. She heard someone and that was all she needed. "H-Hello? Is there someone there? Please tell me I'm not imagining you?!" The worry was apparent in her voice. Immediately she moved in the direction of the voice. Even if it was something she was imagining at least it was something to take her mind off of the fact that they didn't have any power in the school anymore. You'd think that her eyes would adjust to the dark, but they didn't. When she bumped into something...or someone she about took off in the opposite direction. "W-Were you the one calling out a minute ago...?" She felt around in the dark and when she felt the others sweater she immediately gripped on to it. There was no way she was letting go.

Since there wasn't an answer immediately, Quin pushed the door open. Unexpectedly the wind yanked the door from his grasp. The crash was loud as the door bounced onto the outside wall, now open until someone would push it closed. Reflexively, he covered his ears and jumped back. Over the ruckus he didn't hear the timid voice calling back to him. It wasn't until the other child bumped into him that he even knew she was there; instead of turning around though, he let out a small scream and nearly darted out the door. Nobody had answered his calls, so in Quin's mind the only option was a ghost. "Y-You can't take my soul! I n-need it!"
The small fist in his sweater prevented him from getting very far, but he did drag them almost out the door. The baphomet child, fiddled with the edges of his sleeves nervously as he finally looked over his shoulder. "Oh!" Any fear he had vanished, it was a girl! Since she had such a tight grip, he couldn't properly turn around. Instead of asking her to let go he simply pulled his arms in the sweater and turned around completely before slipping his arms back in place. Clearly he didn't care that he was now wearing the sweater backwards. "Yes! I went potty an' when I came out everybody was gone!" He explained to her, while he looked her over. He had seen the bakenekos around school, but never met one personally. Her ears looked so soft. Without asking, he reached out and gently pet one. "They're so soft!" He grinned and continued to pet her ears, enjoying the feeling on his fingers. It finally occurred to the freshling that she was shaking. He could feel it through her ears. "Are you okay?" He asked, unable to hear her low purring over the wind still blowing through the open door.

If she hadn't been so absolutely terrified of the situation around her she probably would have cared that she scared the poor freshling that she had a death grip on. Alas, she could not care less about that right now. All she wanted was to go back to the dorms and cover herself with a million covers and wait this storm out. Nefertiti heard the soft exclamtion and felt the sweater start to move around. She hadn't accidently grabbed on to some sort of contorting monster, had she? Ughhh this was exactly why she didn't like the dark.
"I-I uh...I got l-lost from m-my class an---" Without warning the boy was grabbing her ears. It startled her so much that she almost began growling, but it was so relaxing and nice she ended up tilting her head into the pets. "I-I don't feel okay. I j-just wanna go back to my dorm. C-Can you t-take me there?" She began slightly settling down, knowing that she may soon be safe.

Even through her stutters, Quin listened patiently; he was never one to interrupt another as they struggled to speak. He smiled as he felt her tilt her head into his hand, clearly that meant he could keep going and he did. "O'course I can help you get home! I know my way around here pretty well. Not to brag though.." Since she had gotten lost on her way to the door, he didn't want her to think he was rubbing salt in her wounds. Quinton finally stopped petting her ears, only to reach into his backpack, which happened to be against his stomach now.
"Here, you can hold onto Oren. I told him it's wet outside, but when I'm scared he's the best at helpin'. And he likes the rain, so he's more than happy to come out!" He rambled as he dug in his backpack, at least trying to keep her distracted. Finally he pulled out his little ram and held it out to... Well he didn't know her name. "Pretty-kitty, this is Oren. He's my best friend, so take good care of him. My name is Quinton and I will take great care of both of you!" His grin was from ear to ear as he waited for her to take him. Once she did, he held out his hand for her. "Take this so we don't get separated. The wind is blowin' hard so you might fly away." While, Quin was joking he didn't think about how that would effect the scared cat. With his free hand, Quin zipped up his backpack. "I'm ready when you are."

The situation was getting better by the minute. Nef looked at him with wide, hopeful, eyes. She was so lucky that he was here and that he knew his way around the school. The neko mentally kicked herself for not paying attention during her orientation. Before she even had a chance to thank him he was rustling around in his backpack. When the stuffed animal was presented to her she made the tiniest gasp. "Oren is soooo cute! Thank you so much! " She took the Oren and hugged him tightly, it's cuteness was helping her forget about the dark and the storm.
Until the loudest crack of thunder filled the air, that is. Nef jumped at the sound, immediately taking one hand off the plushie and grabbing Quinton's outreached hand, her fur standing on end. "I-I'm Nefertiti, you can call m-me Nef." When Quinton mentioned that she might blow away she stared at him, terror in her eyes. "Y-You don't think I'll actually be blown a-away do you?" Tears were starting to pool up in the corners of her eyes at this point. She didn't want to stay in the dark school, but she also didn't want to get carried away by the storm! She lifted her arm, the one that was holding Quinton's hand, and used her sleeve to wipe the tears away. "O-Okay. I guess I'm ready. Don't let go of me, okay?"
iMattiebear I know it's not much, but I figured since she doesn't know her way around I probably shouldn't be the one to write it? You can move them as much as you'd like in your next post <3

The approaching storm wasn't showing any signs of letting up, if they were going to leave it had to be soon. "Nef.. tha's easy to remember!" He smiled, making new friend always made the Baphomet happy. But his new friend was scared because of his stupid joke. "I'm sorry! I was jokin' Nef!" He felt really bad about scaring her. He laced their fingers and gave a squeeze, "I won't let anythin' happen to you! I promise." Quin leaned forward to make sure she looked in his eyes. He thought by making eye contact she would see how serious he was. Since she was ready now, clearly because she saw how serious he was about not letting go, Quin turned them around and started their trek to the dorms.
The wind was blowing hard so he walked slightly in front of her, as if that would protect her from it. The darkness outside wasn't nearly as dark as inside the school so he was having no problems navigating toward the dorms. Except, he didn't know where her dorm was. The freshling stopped walking and looked left and right before looking to Nef. "'m not lost.. I just dunno which dorm you're in.." He waited long enough to get her answer, gave her hand a squeeze and then continued to lead them to her dorm.
About half way into their walk home it started to rain. Nothing hard yet, just a light sprinkle. "It's rainin'!" Quin was clearly excited. As they walked, his free hand was outstretched and palm up. The few drops that hit his hand only made him smile more each time. Quinton continuously looked to the neko: to make sure she was there and to check in on her. Even though Quin loved the rain, he thought the storm was what had her scared. So, he did the best thing he knew and tried to divert her attention. "Rain, rain go away~" He kept his hand palm up to enjoy the rain on his hand, but focused on his directions. "Come again another day." They were getting closer, but the lightening and thunder continued to pick up. "Little Neffy wants to play~" He put emphasis on "Neffy" with another squeeze to her hand. He continued to sing the song every now and then, just trying to be a distraction. "Rain, rain go away..."
Finally the dorms were insight. It was a good thing too, the rain was starting to pick up. So he picked up the pace, giving her a little tug to move faster. By the time the dorms were in running distance the rain was really picking up. "Hurry! Or we'll get all wet!" He tugged her faster, but he only ran ahead of her as far as their arms would let them. When she picked a speed he followed it. The pair burst through the doors, panting from their sudden light run. "We made it!" Quin grinned, he felt fantastic and really wanted to go play in the rain now that Nef was at least in her dorms. He didn't know if she knew how to get to her room though..

If it would have been under any other circumstance, Nefertiti would have chimed along with Quin as he sang. Try as she might, even if she would have opened her mouth to say something, all she would have been able to do was make a high pitched keening sound. She was lucky enough as it were that she was actually able to tell him where her dorm was. Though it was much lighter outside than it was in the school...but now the thunder just seemed way too close. It was funny really, she wouldn't have cared if it was just raining, she actually really enjoyed playing in the rain, maybe a different day she could play in the rain with Quin. Preferably a rainy day without any lightening, thunder, or tornado like winds.
After what felt like years, they finally made it to her dorm. She began to lighten back up now that she was home and safe and had lights again! Still, there was no way she was letting her savior go back out into that terrible weather. "C-C'mon Quin, my room is this way." She gently guided them to her room. Her ears started to perk back up, well as perked up as her ears could actually get, her tail stopped flicking crazily, and her quiet scared purr started to turn into a content purr. She stopped in front of her door and quickly opened it, flicking the lights on and dragging the baphomet boy inside with her.
Another boom of thunder shook the building, making her lunge onto her bed, burrowing under the covers on her bed. "Q-Quin. D-Do you wanna hide with me?" She really didn't want him to say no, but at the same time she didn't want to just force the boy to hide with her.

Quin deflated a little when she mentioned her dorm. He really wanted to go play in the storm! However, she was inviting him into her "Home" he couldn't just say no. His teachers always told him to be thankful when somebody invites you over. Something about old traditions. Either way, the boy followed her a smile returned to his lips. "I've never been in this dorm. It's very nice." Already he could feel Nef's demeanor changing. That alone made him proud of helping her out.
Her room looked like so much fun! It was so different than his. Quin was a little sloppy so in his dorm there were usually clothes and candy wrappers scattered around. He didn't get to investigate much before the thunder scared poor Nef under the blankets. "I don't hide from anythin'!" He put his hands on his hips and puffed out his chest. "Nothin' scares me!" At the same time though, he didn't want to just stand and watch her under the blankets. If only they could build a fort to hide and play together! Oh wait.. they could do exactly that!
"Nef! Nef! Let's build a giaaaaant blanket fort! The storm can't get us in there, an' we can play games!" To emphasize how big he wanted the fort to be, he held his arms as wide as he could and gestured from her bed to the dressers. "It'll be safe an' fun!" Quin looked around, trying to find things to build on. He took her chair and dragged it over to the bed. "We can drape the blanket on the back of this so it'll extend this way!" He was clearly excited for this.

She wanted to pout. Nothing would have been more satisfying than puffing her little cheeks out and huffing at Quin's bold statement of nothing scaring him. Normally she wasn't scared by things either! This was dumb, Quin probably thought she was a big baby--which was totally not true! "There's g-gotta be at least one thing you're afraid of..." Another rumble of thunder. Nefertiti made the tiniest peep as she hugged her legs and burried her face into her knees.
At the mention of a blanket fort she perked up. Doing something fun like that would probably help her take her mind off the storm. Plus, not to toot her own horn, but she was pretty well versed in the ways of blanket forts. "Y-Yeah! That sounds really fun! I bet we can turn this whole room into a huuuuge fort! Let's make it more interesting and make a pillow and a blanket fort! A...planket fort!" She giggled childishly at her silly combination of the words as she slowly crawled out of her bed and began tearing all the blankets off.
The neko went to her clothset and grabbed all the other blankets she had stored as well as began harvesting all the random pillows that were strewn all over the place. "Okay Quin, start grabbing anything that looks like it would be good to help prop up the blankets! Anything is fair game, so grab whatever you might need!" Slowly but surely her once frightened purr was turning into a happy purr.

Quin grinned when she insisted he was afraid of something. He thought about it for a second, remembering the only time he had felt fear. Swimming class. He shuddered, but didn't mention it. If he was afraid of water, Nef would definitely think of him as less heroic! And right now, she needed distractions from fear! Thankfully building a fort was in full swing now.
A PLANKET FORT! He loved it, it was 100% better than one or the other. The pillows could be a bed inside the fort! Or doors! Or where windows would be! "This is going to be the worlds best planket fort!" While Nef set off to supply them with all sorts of blankets and such, he got started on the fort. He started with the biggest blanket! It had to go on the bottom or it would pull any of the lighter blankets down when they put it them. "You gotta have a solid base!" He put the chair between the bed and dresser before draping it across the space. It sort of looked like a circus tent, with the chair being the pole in the center. Quin looked around the room, trying to find places to tuck the corners so the fort wouldn't be saggy. "How many rooms should we make it have? A million?!" He was getting too excited now.

She tried her hardest to listen to Quin as she grabbed the last of the things they would need for the coolest planket fort ever. "A million rooms sounds awesome! But...I don't think my little dorm has enough space for that. If we did do a million rooms I think they would have to be wayyyy too tiny and no one would ever want to stay in our fort. Maybe we can start smaller and do like ten rooms!" Nefertiti gave Quin a nod and started working on the fort.
Her eyes darted over the base that Quin had expertly assembled. The picture in her head was so clear. She started draping blankets over things and laying down pillows to give the rooms the look she was going for and to give them a place to tuck the ends of the blankets into. In the main room she laid down a few pillows on the floor so people would have a comfortable place to sit and talk to their friends and share hot chocolate!
A low purr rumbled in her throat as she continued to work, her tail swishing with concentration and determination. As she finished the main room she moved on to the others, carefully laying the blankets over the things they had grabbed to prop it up. The neko moved quickly, but ever so carefully, knowing that one wrong move could send the whole fort toppling over. As she grabbed the last blanket and put it into place she stood back, a proud look on her face. They definitely did a good job.
She fell to her knees and slowly crawled into the fort, dragging some remaining pillows with her. She figured the best way to furnish the planket fort was from the inside. "Quin! I think it's ready! Come on and help me put the rest of these pillows down so our quests have somewhere to be comfy~!" She tunneled through the fort, laying pillows down where she thought they would be best appreciated. A little ring of pillows here. A big pile of pillows there for a nice place to lay down and take a nice nap.
Her ears perked up. She hadn't heard thunder in quite some time now. Nefertiti peeked out from their fort, "I think the stormed has stopped! Quin! You're amazing! Thank you so much for keeping me company! Maybe storms aren't as scary if you have someone to keep you company." She playfully pounced on the baphomet boy, purring louder than she had the entire night.

When Nef shot his idea for a million rooms down, Quin made a fart noise with his mouth. He wasn't serious of course, just bummed it couldn't have that many. "Ten rooms could work I guess." He only pouted for a second before they went to work. Tongues were out in concentration, brows furrowed in thought, the whole nine yards! This was serious business.
While the neko worked on her parts, Quin helped in finding weird spots to tuck the blankets. He helped support it as she structured it. It worked so well, and when the other would start to fix things he would make his own additions. Another room could go over by the desk! The boy couldn't stop grinning as he built a "hallway" to the desk, then used the last of the blankets to complete his desk room. Perfect.
Quinton stood by the door to take in the master Planket Fort. "This is the best fort I've ever seeeeen!" He stood proudly, hands on his hips and puffed his chest out. At the invitation, Quin dropped to his knees and crawled in. It was huge inside! Well, as big as a fort could get. Quin crawled over to the tunnel he had built and grinned. "Look I made a secret room! We should put treasure over there!" He wanted to go down the tunnel but the mention of the storm made him turn back to the main huddle area. "See, it's only sca-- oof!" He plopped back on the pillow bed and laughed as she purred loudly.
"A friend makes everythin' better!" He couldn't stop smiling, his cheeks were hurting! He gave them a rub before sitting back up. "We can't just tear it down!" He gestured carefully around him, not wanting to pull the fort down around them. "Le's play!" He crawled out of the fort to only to grab Oren and pop back in. "We could have pretend hot cocoa. Or-or investigate the light coming from the deep tunnel!" Now that she wasn't scared they could both have fun all night!
