"...And y'know, it's interesting that..."
Slievenamon really didn't have anyone to talk to.
"...So when they appeared, I was like..."
And certainly not someone to listen to.
"...But then there was this big..."
Especially not when it came to her her life as Slievenamon—the only notable aspect of her existence the redhead was excited about. She was reluctant to tell anyone—not her stepmother for fear her gossiping would get the better of her and definitely not her father because the man wouldn't even believe her—so the squire found the next best set of ears: A pair of feather-covered ones.
She'd been making her trips to the park to play her actual flute a little longer than usual. Not just to practice, but to also power-up and get a little high to play her shell one as well. Intermittently through these practice times, she'd go over her notes, and after some time, Slievenamon found herself entertaining the company of a pigeon. At first, it had flapped away in fright at her presence, but as the girl's image became more frequent and her sideways comments to it turned into actual conversation, they formed a rather... odd tolerance for each other.
"Isn't that interesting?" Slievenamon said to her feathered friend, tilting her head. "I didn't even know that was possible until now!"
The pigeon just stared at her.
The squire rolled her eyes. "God, talking to you is, like, talking to a bird," she said. "Yeesh."

Cygnus was not really sure what he was looking at.
Sure, adults were generally weird, and he was not always a fan of the teenage and older 'team mates' he ran into. Apparently all of the White Moon were on the same side, so technically they were like... one big Justice League without a real tower in space, which made it a lot lamer.
Oh and also stuff like this. Stuff like this made it lame.
"What are you doing?"
This crazy person was talking to a bird, and it half looked like the bird was listening. Which was even crazier. Was that her super power? She got to talk to birds, while he got stuck... making people feel scared? That didn't seem quite the same thing. Though, his power was kind of cooler, when he thought about it. At least it was useful in a fight, and he didn't look like a crazy person.
He hoped.
"That thing probably has a bunch of diseases! Why are you talking to it?!"

All Slievenamon needed to hear was a human voice to break her conversation with her feathered friend. Shifting her chin over her shoulder, she glanced down to the sight of... a chibi senshi? The squire was aware there were some young soldiers among the ranks of the White Moon, but she never had a chance to talk to one until now.
Dropping down from the branch, the sudden movement caused the pigeon she regarded as human to flee in a flutter of feathers. Landing down at the base of the tree, Slievenamon laughed sheepishly and scratched the back of her neck.
"Just, err, collecting my thoughts... Yea! That's it. Collecting my thoughts," she said. Internally, she was chagrining hard enough to give herself an aneurysm. "So just, ah, f-forget you ever heard or so anything, okay? So! What's your name?" The squire leaned against the tree trunk trying to appear cool and not-crazy. "I'm Slievenamon, a squire of Neptune."

The Chibi Senshi of Fear had his hands on his hips, frowning at the older knight and wrinkling his nose in distaste. People were just so hard to understand, and he was particularly bad at it because he spent most of his time alone. On purpose, of course, because why would he want to be friends with weird people?
Friends were just dumb anyway, and no one wanted them. Because that was dumb.
Yeah.
He stared at the knight even harder when she introduced herself.
"Sl... Sleeve." That was about as far as he had processed for the name she said, and that was all she was going to get now. He huffed and puffed out his chest a bit, though, to look bigger than he really was. It never did work for him, being so short. "I'm Cygnus! Chibi Senshi of Fear! And you were definitely talking to that bird."

Well! This one was a little feisty, wasn't he?
She hunched her shoulders a bit when he stared her down, and after his introduction and insinuation she was talking to the pigeon, Slievenamon folded her arms across her chest and huffed.
"Okay, Cygy, maybe I was talking to the bird," she said. "And just maybe I was collecting my thoughts. But enough of that. What are you doing all alone?" Slievenamon waggled a finger at him, her words coming out more playful than demeaning. A smile played on her lips as she continued. "Didn't any senshi tell you it is dangerous to go alone? There are scary things out here and you wouldn't want to get hurt. If you're gonna run around, at least have a friend with you."

"Don't call me that! That's too cute! I am not cute!"
If there was one thing the small senshi hated, it was being treated like a cute little kid. He was a super hero, damn it! And they were supposed to be treated with some sort of respect, right? He felt like they should, anyway. The ones in his comic books certainly seemed to be treated better than being called cute.
Wait she hadn't actually called him that, had she? Now he was just working himself up into a fit for the sake of it.
"I'm a senshi and I'm on patrol, that's why I'm alone! I'm doing my job! An important job, too! I'm making sure... you know... things are safe for people! That's what we're supposed to do!"
Though he was pretty aware that it was dangerous, having run into a few monsters. Usually there was someone else with him, though, and he wasn't sure what he would do if he ran into one alone...
"I could handle anything that comes at me! I'm strong!" he proclaimed, looking entirely unsure.

Slievenamon bit her tongue and tried really, really hard not to laugh.
And failed.
After allowing herself a good belly laugh, the squire shook her head and couldn't help but think, yes, the chibi was definitely cute. She dare not voice that thought, though; she didn't want to chance angering him more or getting a chestful of whatever the boy's magic was.
Or was she?
It wasn't that Slievenamon doubted the boy's powers, but at the same time, she worried. He was just a child, after all. Was he really capable of handling his own?
"Well, I can say you're doing a good job if nothing's come around these parts!" And she meant that, too—the squire rarely had run-ins with youma at the park. Or if she did, they were already piles of dust.
"But are you really sure about that?" Slievenamon said, clutching her hands behind her back. "Every hero has their kryptonite, y'know, and sometimes the bad guys can be really strong. I can help you, though. I've went against a few really strong evil doers and can show you some cool moves!"

Cygnus watched her, ready to huff and puff some more, but she seemed to relent a little and did not call him cute again. though she had laughed and he really did not like people laughing at him, so he continued to pout and frown at her just in case.
She did bring up good points, though...
He was not actually all the sure he was strong enough to do much against bad guys. As far as he knew, his magic was only good for distracting a bad guy long enough for him to, as the case had so far been, make his exit. One time he had managed to dust a youma by kicking it, but he was not sure how often that tactic would work.
It had not been a particularly strong one...
"You can show me some moves?" he echoed, trying to sound skeptical but coming off more excited than anything else. "Alright, well. I mean. I guess I could learn more. I mean, I'm already pretty good! But... everyone can get better. You know. Maybe. If I don't already know it."

Slievenamon puffed her chest out and jabbed her thumb at its center. "Yep, I've been around the block a few times, believe it or not," she said cheekily. "And you're totally right, even the best can get better." She grinned at him. "Do you know how to punch? I mean, not just curling your hand into a fist and duking it out, I mean proper jabs and stuff."
To emphasize her words, she bent a little low and gave some messy punches herself. The squire wasn't used to fighting and wasn't as good as on the offensive she could've been, but she was willing to pass on whatever she could to the chibi so he could defend himself. After her mock display, she turned to Cygnus and scratched the back of her neck.
"It's a little weird just demonstrating it myself, so how about this," she said. "You come at me. Not with the intention of hitting. At least, I hope not, ahaha, and I can give you pointers along the way?"

Cygnus looked unsure of his answer. How did he tell her he had never really punched anything without sounding like a useless dummy?
He huffed, folding his arms and crossing them over his chest, which was still puffed out in an effort to keep up the appearance of being big. He was a small kid, even for his age, but he did his best to pretend otherwise.
"Well, alright," he said, when she offered the way out of his problem by asking him to try and spar a bit with her. She would help him learn the basics without him having to say he did not know them! Excellent.
Awkwardly, realizing now the she was a girl and thus something he needed to be incredibly weird and uncomfortable around or else he would probably burst into flames if he was not careful, he moved toward her and held up his hands.
"Okay so... if we were fighting and I was the bad guy and you were me, ow would you um... beat me?"

Slievenamon hummed in thought, looking Cygnus over. Clutching her chin between forefinger and thumb, she walked around him twice as if looking over a piece of art, and stopped right back where she stood before him.
Using the mouthpiece end of her shell flute like a pointer, she said, "Welp, if I was a bad guy, I think I'd go for your chest first." She pointed at his center. "Holding up your arms is okay, but you've got to protect here—your starseed. Secondly, there's your legs"—her shell flute pointed to his knees—"because if a bad guy gets your own your feet, they can get at your chest as well. You've gotta, like, balance both. Especially with your back. You've got to watch from behind as well because an enemy can, like, attack you from behind too."
Slievenamon wasn't much of a lecturer, so her smile waned slightly. "Do you have that? Those three places, you've got to watch them thoroughly."

Cygnus felt uncomfortable, but let her look him over. He kept his stance, if it could be called that, fists clenched tightly and knuckles turning white. He knew it was not a real fight, but he could not help the adrenaline and anxiety rising in his chest.
What if he is so bad she just laughs at him?
He would probably just have to give up being a super hero, really, because people laughing at him was the worst thing that could ever happen.
"Starseed?" He remembered someone said something about it before, but he was not really the best at remembering things like that. He nodded, though, and tried to understand what she was telling him. "They can attack from everywhere? How am I supposed to do all that at once?!"

Slievenamon chagrined. She realized she wasn't the best teacher at times, though she did have the patience for it.
"It's... I-it's something that you can only do through experience. I know that's not the best thing to say, but all battles are different and unpredictable. Just know that, no matter what, agents of Chaos and youma will be after your starseed in your chest." She touched her own again to emphasize this. "It's, like, the crystalized version of your soul. Or to be more exact, it is your soul. So it is very, very important you protect it."
"Do you know how to flip someone over your shoulder? That can be the second thing I show you if you want."

Cygnus looked upset, but he was doing his best to understand her directions. He wanted to be good at this, after all, and surely she knew what she was talking about. He was the one that didn't understand it, right?
Boy, he hoped that was the case, and he hadn't just picked the wrong person to learn from...
He put his hands over his chest, as if to protect his starseed that way. It sounded scary, knowing he had something that valuable in him and they could, as far as she made it sound, pretty easily just take it out of him. He really didn't want that to happen, and looked mortified by the very idea of it.
Someone would not be sleeping tonight.
"Flip... no, I don't. I want to though! Show me, show me!" He was a little guy, even for his age, so being able to get the upper hand on someone, even if they were bigger, was something he really needed to know how to do.

Cygnus's sudden enthusiasm for their next lesson provoked a smile from Slievenamon's lips. Again, she actually wanted to laugh, but didn't want to anger him.
"So, it's like what you've probably seen in movies," the squire said, putting her flute on the ground. "Guy comes from behind and the other grabs his arm and flings him forward. Something like that. It's a pretty effective move no matter how big your opponent is. First, you should get in a fighting position, like your did before, and then grab their arm and kinda, like, roll them over your hip. You're letting the ground and gravity do the damage, not yourself. Do you want to try? I don't mind being and, as a chibi senshi, you shouldn't have the strength for it. I understand if you don't want to, though."
