Going to Neued made for a mixed blessing, of sorts. On the one hand, the once-shifter town held many bad memories of captivity and fear. On the other hand, it was a perfect place to trade for the sort of goods she needed in her craft. Materials from all over Tendaji came through there and though she could not enjoy the myriad of beautiful colors, she could admire the different feels of the materials. And what she could do with them.

Assistants – Alkidikes that knew and respected her - set up a market stall for her as she sat back and finished off a few other trade goods. Though a weapon crafter by trade, a purveyor of swords and spears and bows, Dyakida loved to create a variety of things. In particular, magical foci. The intricacies of material, carved runes, and magic was absolutely fascinating to her and she longed to do it well. She would need to in order to serve her sisters.

Typically, she practiced carving and magic-craft by making toys and trinkets, nothing special. Today, however, she was stepping out into the new.

She was trying to make spell runes.

She'd felt the carvings that gave the stones energy, and she knew what they meant. It was only a matter, she felt, of selecting the proper stones, inscribing the runes in the proper way, and infusing it with magic. The only way she would know how to do it was to actually try it.

So she did.

She etched the runes with care as the shade of the new stall fell on her, filling the carved grooves with a special crystal-and-oil-based magical paste. It was gritty to the touch.

She had bought the recipe off of a trader, a mystic themselves, and had been assured that this would provide the necessary reagent to infuse the carved stone with magic. She gathered the runes in her hand and concentrated.

Magic came hard for her, but she had honed her ability to summon it forth and infuse it in an item. It was all she could do with it, but she could do it reliably.

She brought forth her magic, pushing it into the runes, trying to feel the symbols and fill them with magic. But it wouldn't hold – the runes were not right, somehow. She kept trying until she was forced to slump back, out of breath from the effort, her sparse magic evaporating away from the runes in her hands like swamp gas.

Well.

At least they would make interesting trade goods. She would just have to try again some other time...
