Ars stretched her wings against the evening air, reveling in the not quite darkness which still had the heat of the day, shimmering off the ground like it too wanted to fly. Witching hour, she'd heard it called before, that time between evening and true night that scattered the mind and confused the senses. She loved this time.

Banking slowly, letting the thermals catch in her leathery wings, Ars began her approach. To what was she approaching? Or whom? She didn't know the answer to that question. Ars usually didn't, these days. Since leaving her family as far behind her as she could fly, every place she stopped was somewhere new, every face she saw was that of a stranger. She had not ventured out much before her fight with her Father, now the whole world was hers to explore. It was lonely, sometimes, late at night when she would have had her siblings or parents near enough she could hear them breathe before, now there was only silence. And crickets. Gah, she hated those little things. So noisy for something so small. She just wanted to stomp them all out of existance.

Landing almost delicately in the unique shelter that the mountains provided. The ledge was large, larege enough for a whole herd, provided they could fly, for the ledge was a stopping point between two sheer drops. To the left, a stone wall that climbed far beyond where they eye could see in this light. And to the right, open air above a dizzying drop to jagged rocks below. It was a nice place, she thought, had plenty of veiw so she would see someone coming and plenty of space for her to get away should someone already be there.

Ars had been moving northward for a while now, finding ledges like this to stay on. She really just wanted to see how much further she could go before it was too cold for her. Not that she had encountered much cold, save for when she flew as high as the mountians would allow. It was balmly, bordering on hot, where she landed. And she wondered the way of it. Wasn't it supposed to get colder?

Shaking her her slightly, she turned in place, taking a look around the ledge without reall looking. No one had ever followed her here, and she had been coming for a few days, and no one had ever been waiting for her, so for once, she would let what she was taught slide and not check ever nook and cranny of the ledge for life. She was tired, and Ars'd had enough of her Father's training to last a lifetime.

Ars let her eyes wander over the course she had taken to get there, both in body and in spirit, though her eyes could not see the training she had endured for a purpose she would never fulfill, or what her leaving had done to the family. She would probably never know, not unless she went back for some reason. There wasn't one that she could think of now, not with the hum of freedom mixing with the Faythsong in her blood in an intoxicating manner. But there was one thing she knew, and knew well, nothing ever turned out the way it was supposed to, so who knew? Maybe she would end up on her family's doorstep again. Until then, she would enjoy her supposed solitude. Maybe find something to eat in a bit.

Pacing the edge of the ledge, she held her wings loosely open in case some of the rock under her should slip, but that was all the attention she paid the rest of the ledge. Her eyes were seeking things out in the dark. Witching hour.

To say his frustration was high would have been an understatement, Erebus had been hunting this buck for hours now, following him at a careful distance. Creature was to damn smart though, and when he got to close to fast it almost scared the experienced buck away. Now the sun was setting, and the forest was cast in near total darkness, he knew they were getting close to where the timber met the mountains, the buck didn't have much longer, nor did his patience.

His wings were folded down tight against his sides, useless in their still small size to lift his sheer massive frame from the confines of the earth.

He would not think on that now, the end of his long hunt was so near. The shadows cast by the trees were helping in their own right. His deep black coat more easily hidden now. Even his legs were stained with mud from the trek, which helped to hide the bright red flames that adorned them. Erebus was in the zone now, focused only on the dinner that was soon to be his. Head low in a snaking manner the stallion moved as quietly as he could manage, which was harder than it looked, his thick tail barely swaying behind.

A glimpse of brown before him .. followed by a flash of light and the rustle of underbrush. The buck had sensed him, the game was up, now the chase was on.

He crashed through the woods with no care now, not the fastest runner in his family, his huge stride did at least allow him to gain some ground and keep the buck in sight. His prey was trying desperately to escape, unaware that it was being driven into a trap. If he could herd the animal to the ledge not far away, it would be trapped and dinner served.
