Baum sighed and looked down at the assignment. It wasn’t to say that he was bad at art but drawing was never his strong point and they were trying to draw people around campus. Sure the teacher didn’t expect a masterpiece but Baum wanted to be better than this… With a groan he crumpled up the piece of paper and threw it in the trash. At this rate he was going to have to figure out if skipping the assignment would be too big of a hit on his grade. Of course that would be giving up wouldn’t it and if there was anything baum hated it was giving up so… another piece of paper it was. “Ugh this is no good… no good at all” Baum stated his wings flapping a bit in agitation. He normally liked to cover them with his sweater as people were less likely to throw the mutant card at them, but they had been rather sore today so out of the sweater they came. “Couldn’t we just have drawn stick figures” He muttered out loud. well he supposed that stick figures was the extent of some people’s talent but still. With a groan he practically collapsed on the table and covered the sketch book with his head as he laid on it.

Dianthe fought the urge to groan when she received today's assignment. As if it weren't bad enough that she had to draw, she had to draw people. The teacher tried to make it sound fun, and some of the other students looked very excited and had zoomed out of the room and probably to the courtyard where lots of willing muses would be walking around. Dianthe was stuck still in the art room with a blank notebook and a pencil behind her ear, trying to think of how she could make this as painless as possible. Art, obviously, was not Di's thing. Give her a six hundred page tome about the history of the Imps and she'd go to town, but anything that required her to create with her hands usually ended up in the trash. It was hard enough writing legible notes with her Litch claws, let alone make art. The burgundy girl sighed, scanning the room for some inspiration when her eyes landed on another Freshling with two sets of tiny wings. An idea sparked in her head, and she gathered her materials before making her way over to his table. "Hi, I'm Dianthe. I don't know about you, but I'm not the best at art, and I have almost no clue how I'm going to complete this assignment, but I might have an idea that could help us both, if you're interested."

Baum sighed and looked at the ever growing pile of crumpled up pieces of paper. It was now bordering on the absurd and he was half tempted to walk to the other side of the room and grab the trash can. He could know sympathize with some of the animated characters he had watched in movies. Still he was glad that most everyone had exited to the courtyard or other such places. He was definitely not the best of models and the people in the classroom mostly knew he was prickly so they tended to stay wawy…. So it was understandable that a surprised look crossed his face when someone actually sat down at his table. He unslumped himself and sat up straighter. While he was prickly some of the time he did like to have a good set of manners and who knows maybe new angles would help him better with the assignment. He gave a slow blink about her before thinking about her offer. Alright, he would go with it. It might be interesting if nothing else. “Hello Dianthe, I’m Baum. I’m okay at art I guess.” He trailed off here to look at all the crumpled pieces of paper. “Well most of the time but I’m definitely open for ideas. New angles by this point are most welcome”

Dianthe was very pleased that the other freshling didn't shoo her away or completely ignore her, which had happened a couple times in the library when she needed help getting something off the top shelf. She watched him carefully with her golden almond-shaped eyes, taking in the adjustment to his posture. She could almost see the wheels turning in his head, and was happy that the boy agreed to listen to her idea. "Well, I was thinking that maybe we could just try and draw each other and turn that in, if you're up for that. I hope that maybe if I just get the colors right, I might pass with a decent grade. I completely understand if you don't want to, I just thought . . . since we're both here . . ." she punctuated her statement with a shrug and a little smile, fiddling with the pencil behind her pointed ear. Nasaiki maybe they could get to know each other in the next couple of posts before they turn it in on the fifth post?

He was a little uncomfortable at her glances towards him, but he was new and different on top of that and it wasn’t like she was flat out staring. Still old habits were hard to break. Ah… the draw question. Well he figured that was going to come up. However she was pretty nice about it and well it wasn’t like he hadn’t expected it at some time. He absent mindedly laced his hands together, resting his chin on them. “Alright, I would be up for that. Random people walking by doesn’t seem to be working as you can see and I’m up for helping another student get a good grade” Baum finally answered. “I just am a little tense being a subject so pardon any body language I might give off.” His wings arched a bit as if to agree with his words. Delicate Rose Bud it totally works for me, since we need five posts each

Dianthe gave the winged boy another smile, happy that he agreed to be her subject. She pulled out her markers and crayons from her little bag that she had tucked in there in case the other kids got to the art supplies before she did (which they did). She hated it when all that was left in the labelled boxes were the yellows that some kid accidentally mixed with a darker color and ruined it, or the dried out ones without caps. She set them on the table and selected a couple different shades of brown and purple. "You can use my art supplies if you'd like, I have more than enough colors and I don't mind sharing. Just don't chew on the cap~" Dianthe tried joking a bit, which only worked about half of the time. She wanted to break the ice with this boy, and hoped she was making an ok first impression. Nasaiki coolio~ she'll start asking him questions or something in the next one if he doesnt say something first

Thinking about it, it probably wasn’t the fairest idea. Baum had all sorts of extra features that dianthe didn’t have. However he supposed he had nice colors to work with and like he had thought earlier it wasn’t as if the teacher was expecting a masterpiece from the freshlings “Thank you very much for the offer. Do you get many people that chew on the cap?” Baum asked with a rare smile, although he supposed the questions weren’t entirely unfounded. He was known to chew on his own caps or pencils if he got really into a project. “So… if art isn’t your thing, what subjects are your favorite… ah sorry if that is too personal. I just find some times talking makes arting go faster”

Dianthe nodded thoughtfully at his question, happy that she could pull a smile out of him. He seemed like the kind of Nightmare who didn't smile much, and was still getting used to the feel of the corners of their mouth turning up. She realized she might have been staring again and returned her gaze back to her drawing, switching between the four colors. Staring was rude. "You'd be surprised. My table partner in language arts never remembers their black pen for the Friday essays and always chews on the cap. I've started giving it to her uncapped to see if she still chews on it." She realized she was droning a bit, and focused more on her assignment. It wasn't coming out half bad. The burgundy Litched glanced back up at him so she could get the shape of his ears before answering his second question. "Don't worry, I too enjoy small talk while 'arting'. My favorite subject is History, specifically the history of Above. I plan on studying it when I get to University. What about you?" she asked as she finished up the drawing. Nasaiki well that went by faster than i thought it would haha

He had basically a rough sketch at the moment. It wasn’t as bad as the others but then again it was a rough sketch. Maybe it was company. Since he was half focused on the conversation he wasn’t over thinking his work. Hmm maybe next time if there wasn’t someone to talk to he could try drawing with music. Looking back at his drawing he decided it might actually be good enough to start putting in the actual lines now. “Ah yeah, I know that habit. I guess I do have to confess to chewing on the end of my pencil if I’m in deep thought. However I can say that I’ve ever had the desire to chew on markers so they should be pretty safe from me. ” He pointed out and then waited to see if she would answer his other question. “That’s a pretty awesome goal; there aren’t enough people that are interested in History. Everyone here seems to want to go for some art goal” Baum replied. “I can’t say I’m quite decided yet. I really like learning about the criminal justice system and I think I want to maybe be a police officer but you never know if something else will come up by the time I graduate the academy” Baum finally decided. Ah line art was done, all he needed was color it in now.

Dianthe smiled and feigned over-exaggerated relief that he wouldn't be nibbling on the ends of any of her markers. The space in between their conversation let her finalize the rest of her piece, adding the last few strands of his duo-chrome hair and sweater. She added the darker, almost heart-shaped pupils to his eyes and the little claw-looking thing on the ends of his wings while listening to his response to her answer. She nodded along to the statement about everyone seeming to follow some sort of artistic path, and chuckled a little when she thought of how much she seemed to stray from that trend. She was, however, very pleased with how her assignment turned out. "That's really interesting, Baum. I've never met someone who wanted to potentially pursue law enforcement. It sounds like a tough job, but you could very well end up being someone's hero." She gave him a sincere smile before bashfully showing him her portrait of him. "It is far from perfect, and I hope I don't offend you by my lackluster artistic abilities, but I thought you might want to see it before I turn it in."Nasaiki thanks for knocking this out with me! if this isn't conclusion-y enough for you, i'm more than happy to do one or two more replies~

It hadn’t gone so bad. She hadn’t commented on his mutations and he had carried on a small little conversation. He would have to tell Kadali he might have actually had fun today and looking down at his artwork he felt satisfied enough to turn it in. For an assignment he was dreading he supposed it hadn’t come out too bad. He was glad he had tried to tough it out instead of just giving up and storming of. Of course since they had both finished it was time to go turn things in “Well I figured there weren’t enough heroes out there so …” He trailed off and moved a strand of hair out of his face. “Well thank you none the less. And no you don’t offend me at all. The drawing looks pretty nice. Ah I finished yours as well” he replied showing her the picture. “I guess this is where we part to turn things in. Thank you again for your suggestion. It was a nice break” he smiled before going to find the teacher. Delicate Rose Bud I figured I would add one last little post and finish out baum. I think that should finish up the rp
