Remembering the Past
Prompt 3

Can be used toward Solo or RP req

It has been seven long years since the Great Oban Invasion. It almost feels like a dream, considering all of the changes that have occurred in Tendaji since the great war. A new King sits on the Oban throne, and he has opened the boundaries of Oba and Matori. Many already are taking advantage of the open boarders to travel and explore. The world was expanding and changing all things to the massive war of the great nations.

Since the war, Tendaji took a stand against the extremist Alkidikes and won. They came together to show a new alliance that many could never dream of. Everything was settling, and now that there finally was peace everyone has begun to to take a moment and remember all that has come and gone.

How have the major wars and changes impacted your character these past few years? Are they bitter for their failures or happy about their success? Do they see a peaceful future to come or are they concerned about those who may be still holding grudges?

[Characters not part or even alive during the war can still respond to this prompt. Maybe they have a different way of understanding the war compared to those who were part of it, so feel free to explore those feelings and thoughts in your response]

She had reached the border. The line between Jauhar and Tale. There was no discernible marker but she knew. There was just this feeling about it all. Phaedra wasn't sure she liked the feeling either. Standing where she was she let her eyes take in the horizon. She still had some forest to go through but beyond the tangle of trees she could see the bright sun and open plains that waited. That was her homeland. The place she was born and where her tribe hailed from.

After a few years she was returning to it all. And what an ALL it was. This land was scarred with wars. The Oban one had been the largest so far that she could remember. It was when her life had changed in as little as a few hours. As the wind filtered through the trees it caught her hair and sent it flying behind her but it also gave her a lung full of earthly scents. The smell of the land. Scent was a powerful thing. It could block or unlock memories. Exactly what it was doing for her now.

News of the conflict had hit her and her family early. Their home town was close to the border and that was where everything was going down. There had been a call for every fighter that was willing to leave their families or even those that were looking for glory. She remembered being afraid. Phaedra had hoped that the evil wouldn't reach her house. There was just no way. Her father was no fighter and neither was her mother. Since she and her sisters were too young there would be no one asking for them to fight. Except.. Her father had enlisted as soon as he could.

It had taken some time for him to explain it to her but he said it was a noble thing to fight for. The freedom of others. However, he also made her feel guilty for wanting to keep him to herself. He'd told her that there were others in the world that would need him to help out.

Phaedra hated that she'd been so selfish back then. As she thought on it all she could see that her father had been right. It was a noble thing and she was proud of him for helping as many people as he had during that time. Despite her fathers good deeds there was a black cloud that hung over that time in her life. It was also the time when her mother and sisters left her life with an Oban. That was the beginning of her hate for the fire tribe. To her they represented both war and loss in a personal way.

As a small child she'd had to give up her father to fight against their evil and then one of their kind had swooped in and stolen her family but left her behind. There were times where she was convinced that it was the Oban that had made her mother leave her behind and others were she remembered the look in her mother's eyes as she turned away from her. It was such a cold expression. No mother should look at their child that way.

When another gust of wind came through she blinked and turned her head so that she could look to the side and then glance behind her. Phaedra was checking to see if she was followed or if perhaps ghosts of her past were behind her and taunting her. With nothing to catch her attention she looked forward once again and this time she took a step. There were answers in the land that she'd fled from as a child with her father. Answers that she needed.

So she would face the darkness that haunted her dreams and made her hate and fear her past. There would be something there that she could learn. Maybe if she was lucky a friend of her mother's would tell her where she could find the woman. It would be nice to see her sisters again too. To know how well they'd grown. What they were doing in life. Even if she didn't get those answers she wanted to speak to the neighbor that had taken her in after her mother had left her behind. She would know something. And if nothing else then she could ask about her father. She wanted to know the kind of man he was before her mother broke his heart.
