White curly locks were tussled by the frigid winter winds as the mare attached pushed her way through the snow. It seemed like months had passed since she'd finally encountered the mare she set out to eliminate. The black and green mare was surrounded by others when Kaska made her way to their teepee, and she was far too outnumbered to make a move. Swallowing her pride, she'd made the choice to leave, but ensured she would be close enough when the time came to strike. This meant taking some necessary, albeit less than pleasant, steps. For one, she was living with quite the grumpy stallion; a crude hermit who often made her clean and hunt for him in order to allow her to live there. He also loved to allude to sexual favors for payment, but Kaska wouldn't bite. She'd snarl and snap at him whenever he'd try anything funny, and he wasn't quite into the idea of getting himself hurt for such a plain mare. Kaska glared at him, wondering why she didn't just run him out of his own cave and keep it for herself. But she knew why. Not only would it be lonely, but this stallion knew his way around better than anyone else she'd encountered. Better to keep him underhoof just in case he came in handy.

The stallion's glowing blue eyes peered out of the cave mouth at the petite mare, his steaming breath helping to add to the thick icicles around the entrance which clung to the roof. They served not only to block the entrance, but to intimidate others thinking about using his home for a little snooze. He stared at her blankly, his mind obviously elsewhere. Slowly the frozen spikes grew, and the stallion's interest faded. He grunted at what he considered to be his maid, rolling his eyes. "Well hurry your juicy little rump up, I'm getting ready to seal the cave! It's damned cold out there!" His tail swished as the vines on his chest wriggled away from the cold. Damn winter. He should've moved to the jungle long ago.

Kaska raised a brow at the pushy stallion. "Do you really think you're going to seal that thing up with me inside? So I can smell your rotting stench all day?" The stallion almost never bathed, and you could certainly tell. 'It's good for m'trees,' he'd say, but she'd had just about enough of it. "Yeah, I don't think so. You can deal with the cold like a big boy." She entered the mouth of the cave reluctantly, but was glad to be out of the wind. She eyed the vine-covered cave walls, still not understanding how he did that.

Richard grinned as she made her way into his abode, slapping her rump with his tail. "Yeah, yeah, nothin' you haven't said before." He chuckled as she kicked him for his frisky behavior, his grin widening. "Oooh, feisty today, huh?" At receiving another hoof-lashing, he rolled his eyes and continued his work on his wall made of icicles. The wind bustled through his trees and he sighed, trying to work harder. "Hey," he called between puffs of steam, "The vines need watering." He chuckled, waiting patiently for her to retort. When she didn't, he quirked a brow. "What, finally ready to try another form of payment?" While waiting for another kick, he continued his work on the wall. Upon not receiving attention again, he stood up to look at the mare. But... Where had she gone? "Hey! Where'd you go?!"

Kaska grinned from the back of the cave, her wings stretching in the dark. She had learned to ignore her unruly host every now and then. Not only did it make him wonder, but she often times got useful bits of information when he rambled to fill the silence. Rolling her eyes, she grunted. "I'm back here, you dope." She shivered, trying her best to shake off the cold she had just escaped from. While the cave was still quite chilly, it feigned in comparison to the bitterness outside. It smelled like rotting plant matter, which she'd always hated, but it was a small price to pay for the shelter and food gained by her little arrangement. "I'll water them as soon as you haul the ice in to melt. I've been out there long enough today."

The crotchety old stallion rolled his eyes at the mare. "Was hoping you'd chosen payment." Richard examined his ice wall and grumbled. It was rather impressive, and getting out was not going to happen any time soon. Reluctantly, he made his way to his feet and broke an icicle from the bottom with his tail before sliding it over toward the mare. It was rather sizable, and didn't even roll more than a few feet, but he wasn't particularly interested in putting forth much effort. After all, according to their agreement, she was the one who had to work here, not him. "Aye. There you are, now get to watering the plants or you'll go hungry." He could have used his powers to cause the vines to offer more leaves for food, and he did so regularly, but only being half 'suti had its disadvantages. He felt as if his noble effort to keep the mare warm was good enough, even though it would benefit him just as much.

The hybrid stared at the icicle on the ground. "Really? And what am I supposed to do with that? Sit on it until it's melted?" She groaned as she made her way back toward the mouth of the cave, nudging the icicle along with some difficulty. Growing annoyed, she kicked at it until it broke into several small pieces, shards of ice heading every which way. "I'm not getting those." Now with much more manageable pieces to work with, she nudged them toward the back of the cave one at a time. When there, she pushed them into a basin-like dip in the floor which held all of the plants' roots. She never quite understood how the stallion had gotten them all to grow from the same place and pop up all around the cave, but she didn't care to talk to him enough to ask. At the second piece of ice, she glared at the now fussing stallion.

He rolled his glowing blue eyes again but said nothing, uninterested in getting into another heated discussion with the mare about whose job was whose. He plopped back down in front of his ice wall and started working on replacing the icicle he had just sacrificed, looking back at the mare every few breaths. "Hey, hey!" he shouted at her, "Don't put ice in there! If they get too cold they'll wilt and die, and then we'll both be hungry! I haven't enough seeds with me to start them up again, and then we'll both be hungry for spring!" He growled and snarled, wondering just what good this mare did for him in the first place.

Kaska snarled at her ornery host. "Well if I don't put the ice there to melt, where the hell should I put it?" She flicked her tail angrily. "I've got an idea of a place, but you're not going to like it." The mare hated her current situation, but she had to remind herself that it was better than freezing in the frigid winter winds. Oh, what she would give for just a single good kick to the face of that bitter old male. She tried her best to calm herself, her nostrils flaring and her cheeks growing hot. If her situation were any different, if she didn't need him for food, things would look far more in her favor. She kicked the icicles back out of the basin and toward Richard. "If you're so damn resourceful, you do it."

Richard growled lowly at the disobedient wretch he had agreed to house for the winter. "I really ought to be getting more out of this deal, you know." He gracefully dodged the incoming chunks of ice, allowing them to crash against the frozen wall he'd been working so tirelessly on. They broke into smaller pieces, and left chips in his icicles. "You'd best not break down my barrier, if you know what's best for you. You'll be headed right back out to that horrid weather faster than you can try to snap at me!" Using his tail, he swept the glass-like pieces back toward the other end of the cave, pushing them into a different basin and allowing them to collect. "Here. They'll melt, and the water will travel through the grooves in the ground to the roots. Is that really so hard to figure out?"

Kaska glared at the stallion, wishing she'd found better company for her winter stay. At this point, perhaps the cold wouldn't be so bad after all. "Well it isn't like you let me near the damn things often enough for me to know that, now is it?!" Her cheeks were still hot, her temper still flared. Oh, how she hated this male. If he weren't needed for his little indoor garden of food and healing herbs, she'd have found a way to drive him out or kill him. But that would have to wait until spring. At that point, she could take whatever she felt would be useful from him, get an ally or two to fight him with her, and be on her way back to her mission to kill her family. Oh, what a glorious uprising that would be!

He didn't know exactly what the look on the mare's face was, be it contempt or pure anger and hate, but he didn't like it. Perhaps the mare was more of a nuisance than a help after all. But she was rather attractive. He fought himself frequently as to whether or not she would let him get the compensation he really wanted for what he saw was outright kind and caring behavior. He fed her, he gave her a place to stay, and what did he ask of her? Nothing. Simply a little bit of help around the cave. That wasn't so much, was it? He tried not to implode at his annoyance with her, instead choosing to stare at her uncomfortably.
