Esrael had no idea what was going on. A few hours ago he had gotten a note from his childhood friend Joseth and all it had on it was a time and a place. The fallen was confused and little bit anxious about the situation. Was Jo okay? Was he in trouble? Was he going to tell him something important? He didn't know. Still, this was Jo, he couldn't just ignore him.
With the note clutched in his hands he made his way to the secluded part of commons that they stumbled across as freshlings. He manuevered around a few trees and saw his friend sitting on the grass. "Hey, Jo! " He waved as he got closer."So...what's all this about?"

Joseth was nervous.
He had drafted the little slip of paper a dozen times, worrying that Esrael would worry if he wrote it one way or another. He nearly shredded the final draft, and ended up writing it over again on a nice smooth piece of paper before leaving it at his assigned seat in Language Arts. It simply said to meet him at their special place, after his final class of the day. Because Jo got out a class early, he had time to get to their green little corner and think about what he was going to say to his blue winged friend.
Jo's heart quickened as he heard Rae slip into their little alcove and waved as he approached him, which caused the tension in his shoulders to fade. He gave his friend a small smile before addressing his question. "Hey Rae, I'm glad you got my note. I, uh," he paused for a second, butterflies rustling in his stomach and causing him to swallow nervously and hope he wasn't blushing too hard. How was he going to put this?
"I wanted to talk to you alone. About us."

It felt like someone had poured a ton of bricks on him. First Jo was blushing a little bit which made his stomach flutter but then the litch sounded too serious about talking. Esrael's stomach dropped. This was going to be the talk he never wanted to have. It was surely going to be the talk about Joseth being in love with Burvia and that there was no place for him anymore. It was a long time coming, but still he wasn't prepared for it.
Without really even thinking about it he spoke up, a little choked up. "I-It's fine...I understand. She's r-really good for y-you." He was doing his best to conceal the hurt...his best wasn't very good. Try as he might he couldn't have stopped the tears from welling up in his eyes.

Oh no.
Oh no oh no oh no, oh Gods he had done it. He screwed up. Even through his dampened Litch senses and his weak grasp on interpreting feelings, he knew he made a terrible mistake. His stomach knotted up as he watched the blue boy's expression fall, and the strong emotion saturating his shaky voice. Then Joseth saw his eyes watering up and his ears started to ring. He started back pedaling furiously, trying to think of what he had said that would upset his Esrael so much.
He had said he wanted to talk to him alone, about 'us'. He had meant his relationship with Esrael, but the fallen said 'She's really good for you', which meant he could only be talking about Burvia. "No, Rae, this isn't about Burvia. It's about you and me." Still, it didn't feel like enough. He could feel the boy curling into himself and closing up on him, and the clay Litch couldn't have that. Desperately, Joseth wrapped his hands around Rae's upper arms, right below his shoulders. He was careful not to squeeze him or grip him too hard, but felt compelled to steady him, to connect the two of them.
"Esrael, look at me." The Litch's ruby eyes burned into the teary Fallen's as he tried to wordlessly convey that there was nothing to worry about. This wasn't how this was supposed to be. This was supposed to be happy.

Wait. Wait a minute. This wasn't about him and Burvia? But...what did that mean? Whe Jo grabbed him his heart beat quickened. "I'm sorry... I thought you were going to say I didn't have a place in your life anymore...I guess I was wrong." It was tough for him because he still felt like he was the third wheel. Maybe he was wrong though? Maybe Jo really did care about him the way he felt about Jo.
It started off as a childhood friendship, but as the fallen spent more time with Joseth it started to change. Jo was one of the few people that he felt comfortable with. Jo was the one person Esrael cared about more than anyone. Their friendship had developed into a massive crush for Rae and maybe...just maybe...Jo actually reciprocated those feelings.
Rae heard Joseth and almost immediately looked up at him, tears still pooling in his eyes. "I-I'm sorry, again, Jo. I just...I..." He paused...was he really going to say this right now? No. He couldn't...he just couldn't. He didn't want to risk the relationship he had with Jo. "I just...really care about you..."

Joseth's heart ached when Esrael's sad words met his pointed ears. It hurt him that he had been so neglectful to his friend that he thought he might mean nothing to him. He had to fight off his own tears, beating down the urge to be mad at himself for not being a better companion to his best friend. It was his fault, after all, that Rae was upset in the first place.
"Oh gods, Rae . . . you couldn't be more wrong. You mean the world to me, I-" he let Rae speak again, his brows furrowing slightly at the second unwarranted apology, immediately followed by widening, bright eyes as his final statement hit him. His hands slid loosely from the Fallen's upper arms to the inside of his elbow.
"I like you, Rae . . . I really like you. I . . ." Joseth gulped, readying himself to say exactly what he asked Rae here to tell him. ". . . I want to go out with you." he said, his voice slow but full of deep, rich emotion. The Litch boy watched his companion carefully, praying to the gods that he wouldn't react the way he did to the first thing he said to him that day.

This...this was not what the fallen was expecting. When Jo had said what he did Esrael got weak in the knees. His stomach was so fluttery that he felt like he may be sick. Jo actually...liked him as much as he did? It was all so much for him to take in."I...I...I really like you too Jo..." Dare he say it? Would he dare tell the litch after years that he actually really loved him? No...it wasn't the right atmosphere.
Esrael's sad tears soon turned to happy tears. Joseth was actually asking him out. On a date! This was honestly the most important moment of Esrael's life...he had been hoping for this moment for eons. "I-I'd love to go on a date with you, Jo. I honestly thought you'd never ask..." He blushed deeply at what he said. That wasn't supposed to come out, that was supposed to stay silent!

Joseth didn't realize he was holding his breath until Esrael returned his sentiments, after which he expelled it. A swarm of butterflies exploded in his stomach as his limbs were filled with warmth and started to tingle. Esrael really did like him back! And he was giving him a chance to take him out on a date, which Jo felt meant there needed to be some sort of label for their newly-sorted out relationship status.
The clay Litch gave his blue boy a timid, bashful smile as his own cheeks heated up in a ruddy blush.
"So, now that we're officially dating . . ." Joseth spoke softly, hoping his final question would be well recieved and not make Esrael uncomfortable like he did earlier. If that happened, it would comepletely ruin the moment and Jo would never forgive himself. He took a deep breath and slid his hands into the Fallen's, his eyes moving from blue and brown digits to deep blue eyes.
". . . does that mean you'll be my boyfriend?"

The fallen's heart skipped a beat when Jo had intertwined their fingers. Boyfriends. They were officially boyfriends. An item. A couple. This was definitely not what Esrael had expected from this meeting, but this was by far the best outcome he could have ever hoped for. For a long time now he had known about his feelings for the litch boy, but he didn't want to say anything and possibly mess up what they had going. The fact that Jo felt the same way...well...it made his heart soar.
Esrael wiggled his hands from Jo's grasp and pulled him into a tight embrace. He threw his arms around Jo's neck and closed the distance between the two of them, resting his face near Jo's neck. "Being your boyfriend is everything I've ever wanted. . ." The butterflies in his stomach would just not settle down and he was sure that his cheeks were growing redder by the second.

Joseth barely had time to think before he was wrapped in the blue boy's embrace. Jo could barely handle how incredible it felt to be so close to him. He wrapped his arms welcomingly around Esrael's middle, right below the base of his wings. This, Joseth knew with confidence, was a definite yes. Knowing this made Joseth's heart flip, and he was almost positive that it was beating hard enough for Esrael to feel it. He wanted Rae to know how much this whole meeting meant to him, and was so incredibly happy that they were officially a couple.
Joseth almost made a sound he never thought he would make as Esrael's words vibrated against his neck, his knees going weak from the weight of the statement that met his pointed ears. He didn't have to worry about falling, though, because he knew Rae was there for him, and always would be. He smiled and made a content deep rumbling noise, simply basking in the feeling of being held.
"I can't believe this is actually happening. I'm so happy, Rae. I couldn't be happier."
