At first the snow had offered a nicely convenient excuse to stay indoors, cuddled up with Harper in one of their rooms, just trying to stay warm. A little break from training, but it had had started to stretch on a bit, and it was getting harder to ignore the nag of guilt and the prickling voice of his weapon rasping in his ear that he needed to get better so he wasn't so easily killed. Since Liam didn't want to be killed, it was only a matter of time before he found himself back outside on the training field, despite the snow. It would have been nice, of course, if he'd had a person to test his strength against, rather than the dummies. They could only offer so much by way of a challenge.

The heat on the island had frankly been oppressive, and Harvard had welcomed the snow. Well, sort of - he didn't like it, still, but it was better than the stereotypical day of sand and sun. His skin had already tanned a bit in the time he was here. Harvard frowned, then shrugged. It wasn't something he cared too much about. However, the cooler weather meant it was an excellent time to exercise. It had been far too long since he'd held a rapier and he was afraid he had lost much of his finesse in the meantime. He prodded a dummy half-hearted, Miserere singing in his mind. They sang in Latin, of course, a Palestrina piece that he was only passingly familiar with. It was soothing enough, so he let it be. Suddenly, the song cut off mid-note. anyone lived in a pretty how townTurning, Harvard caught sight of Liam (anyone) walking onto the field (how town). Or that was what he presumed his weapon was trying to tell him. Even on the best of days, it was a guessing game. He raised one hand in greeting.

Needs provide? Liam looked up as he heard someone approaching, and one hand lifted automatically in a friendly wave for the professor, a somewhat loop-sided smile touching the young man's lips. "Hey, are you out here to train, too?" That would be very convenient. the semblance of unity such a tiny tag, I'm sorry

"Did the sword give it away, Liam?" He raised a brow at the boy. An obvious answer for an obvious question, although Harvard knew such things were simply meant to open a conversation. He gestured with the point of Miserere. "What do you have? I wouldn't be opposed to practicing together."

The teen shrugged, smile persisting. "Suits you," he commented, gesturing towards the slender blade. A rapier seemed highly appropriate for the good doctor. Hard to imagine him with anything that lacked that sort of finesse. At the question he'd lift his arms to display his weapon more clearly. "Tonfa, so I've been told." They, too, seemed fitting, though he kept that part to himself. As well as his as of yet awful track record for spars. Maybe his luck would turn. Maybe. Wicked snickered at the back of his mind. "A living opponent is preferable to a dummy any day."

Harvard shook his head. "A nightstick? Looking to become some kind of law enforcement officer?" The only time he'd seen tonfa or any type of baton was with the local law enforcement. They weren't allowed to really use them anymore, but still, they were carried. "I can't say it suits you." He gestured with the point of his sword for Liam to go first.

"Hmm." Liam paused to give one of the thick lengths a considering look, then just shrugged. They didn't look to him like anything he'd seen a policeman carry, but it wasn't as if he had a whole lot of experience with the police outside of the media. "I'm not sure what weapon would suit me, if we're being honest." Rhenwick gave a snort as the younger man took a few steps back, bringing both arms up. He took the gesture of the sword as the invitation it appeared to be, charging forward and bringing his right arm around to send the slender end of his tonfa at the good doctor's side. He rather thought he'd left behind pain in Delta - a foolish thought, but a nice thought nonetheless. Liam's weapon hit hit squarely in the side, the thud of it shuddering along his shield. Miserere made a strange hissing noise. Muscles better and nerves more. I know, Harvard thought, striking out neatly with Miserere's sharp point. He caught Liam across the collarbone - normally such a hit would have drawn blood, but the shields dulled the strike. Interesting. "Not badly done, Liam," he said, moving out of immediate range. Dulled, but not absorbed completely--it still hurt, stinging in a way that felt a bit familiar to a paper cut. More pain than damage. He sucked in a breath as she jerked away needlessly, bringing up both tonfa like a shield. "Thank you." He'd take that compliment. This fight had definitely started out better than his last. Perhaps his opponent made all the difference. Harvard he'd expected to do well, and like he'd done often enough in the past, the doctor lived up to those expectations. "You too." Was it complimenting, or patronizing? He meant it as the former. But he was also moving as he said it, body turning as he rushed forward to close that small gap between them. reaching around with his right arm so he could aim a powerful backward wing to the other man's shoulder. Harvard stumbled forward, blade snapping up over his shoulder in some clumsy attempt to maim Liam before he danced away. It worked, more or less, and he ducked away from the boy. Bringing up a hand, he rubbed his shoulder. "Not pulling any punches, hm?" HP: 24 DMG: 5 CHG: 2/3

He offered a rather shy grin. "Well, taking it easy isn't going to do us a lot of good, training wise, right?" And it wasn't as if they could get seriously hurt, at least not here on the training field. He'd learned that the hard way when he'd kept going after Austin even after his shield had broken. All the same, it seemed Harvard's comment had managed to tug at the young man's conscious. His next swing wasn't nearly as hard as his previous one had been. HP: 28 DMG: 1 CHG: 3/3

As the hit barely grazed him, he moved back. Hmm, it seemed as thought Liam might have taken his words to heart, just a bit. "Pick one, Liam. Don't be wishy-washy." And, in a rare moment of finesse, he pulled his own hit entirely, sending the blade slicing through the air near Liam's ear, but not touching him. HP: 23 DMG: 0 CHG: 2/3

"Sorry." It was automatic. Slipping out before he could stop himself, and he grit his teeth afterwards, silently chastising himself as Wicked chuckled gleefully at the back of his mind. ~ You are just too much.~ There was an internally mumbled response to that, which only got the revenant laughing harder, but it served well to get the young man moving again. Fueled, at least temporarily, by a small spurt of embarrassed irritation. More at himself, than anyone else. Arms up, he darted in, body leaning as if he were aiming left, before jerking right at the last possible second. Soccer training paying off, at least for now, as it let him come in low for a solid hit to the other man's abdomen. It was a lot easier fighting Harvard than it had been Austin, but then that probably surprised no one. HP:28 DMG: 7 CHG: 3/3

Well, he felt that like a kick in the teeth. "Stop apologizing," he said, barely controlling the snap in his voice. Instead, he whipped his arm out, slashing Miserere across Liam sharply. HP: 16 DMG: 9 CHG: 3/3

Liam winced, biting back the beginning of another apology before he got past the first syllable. It was a bad habit of his, one he was trying to work on. Of course being chastised didn't do a whole lot for his focus. He made another charge for Harvard, but this time his swing took the end of a tonfa past the man's arm, missing him by an inch.
