          Who: Lorenzo, Vesna, and Zeke
          When: Valentines Day 2016; 6:30pm
          Where: Lab 305
Weather: COLD but at least the sky is clear?

He had to admit, the circumstances were odd to say the least. He was a little bit disappointed; who wouldn't be when one of the things to look forward to was the surprise of it all? Then again...how could he be disappointed? Situations being as they were, it would be cruel to keep the girl behind a closed door in a small room when her soul had been kept similarly before her capture. Things could leak over, as he had been told, situations being as they may...or had been. She could be claustrophobic. The normal routine could be detrimental.

He smiled at the Frei as she floated past him for the umpteenth time. If there was anything he could do to make her more comfortable, he was all too happy to reply. Besides, he was always game for a change of pace and this one...well she was certainly doing just that! When he had called Lorenzo he had had to cover the mouthpiece several times to answer questions from the spritely Frei and ever since he had hung up she had no short supply of more for him. Her curiosity was delightful and she had succeeded in bringing him to laughter more times than he could count with her zeal.

Lorenzo was sure to have his hands full with this one, but he would be lying if he said he wasn't tempted to bring her home with him!

"See anything interesting way up there, little lady?" He followed along behind at a leisurely pace as the Rusalka Frei floated level with the ceiling, face aching with the amount of smiling he had done in the last half hour because of her.

The rusalka frei floated back down to Zeke, doing a clumsy loop-the-loop as she landed to float around his eye-level. Her face was flushed with excitement and she bobbed her head, grinning hugely. "Everything is interesting!" she exclaimed for maybe the tenth time that day. "What else is there to look at?" Before he could answer, she was already gone, flitting down the hallway and straight into Zeke's open office, where a distant, "Ah!" could be heard.

"Who are these people?" she asked excitedly, holding pictures from his office and putting them down at his feet. Floating away again before he could answer, she came back with another armful of things, dumping them on the ground and picking them up to examine them. No matter where she explored, she seemed to prefer to be around a person while she was checking out her haul. "This is cool," she said, holding up a desk knickknack. "And so's this!" she picked up another knickknack and set it next to the first one. Focusing on it for no more than a few seconds, she proceeded to dunk her head into a bag, emerging holding a spare shirt. "I like the colors! Will I get more clothes, too? I don't want this one though, you can have it. Oh, and there's a cabinet in there that's not working right," she informed Zeke solemnly. "I think it's broken, it's full of cold. I took the things out of it for you so you can fix it." She seemed to have found the mini-fridge.

She sighed. "I have so much more to do here! Can't the man who's coming let me stay here? What if he's less fun? What if he doesn't have..." The rusalka's brows furrowed as she tried to think of the names of the objects she'd haphazardly explored already, "...highlighters? I liked the highlighters the best!" She had taken a few colors and once she had figured out how they worked, she had gone to town on some printer paper already. So far she had drawn a lovely neon version of Zeke, and made a concept drawing of Lorenzo, who, the rusalka having only seen one person so far in her life, looked very much like the drawing of Zeke. Now that she had seen the pictures on Zeke's desk, she was busily adding more eyes to drawing-Lorenzo's forehead, much like Anya. Flipping through a mythology book for inspiration, she added a unicorn horn as well. It was neon blue.

She held up the revised drawing. "Does this look like the face of a man who has highlighters to you," she asked Zeke Very Seriously.

He had quickly gotten used to not being able to get a word in edgewise before the Frei was darting off again to fetch something new, but it still didn't stop him from trying. This of course led to a few more clipped syllables in the vein of "Wel--", "Ah--", and the ever popular "Th--".

When she came in with his photos he crouched down to pick them up where she deposited them just in time for the second load of things from his office were set down. She was quick to dissolve into excited exclamations about every little thing she found that he couldn't help but be totally endeared. In a way, she reminded him of himself when he was a kid back in a time when everything was new and even the most mundane or practical of things was some mysterious object that Must Be Learned.

"Well thank you," he said as she handed him his own shirt, grin stretched completely to its max. He gave into his knees' desire to just sit down, parking his a** on the floor surrounded by his things. Even in spite of the news about the fridge he didn't get back up. Zeke was hardly worried about the water and soda going room temp and the snacks he had in there would be safe outside the cold chest for a few minutes. No big deal.

"You're so full of questions! How will I ever answer them all?!" He was laughing again, pictures cradled in his lap and a spare shirt draped across one shoulder while a pretty blue Frei gave her conceptualized Guardian a bright blue unicorn horn across from him. She held it up for him to see and he rubbed at his bearded chin, putting on a pout and a squint to make it look like he was thinking very hard indeed. "Hmm...I dunno! If he's as magical as that horn seems to say he is, I bet he can make highlighters out of thin air!"

He winked at her, waving his left hand and the picture of Brad and himself enclosed in it above his head for emphasis as if such a thing were a possibility. Well...it certainly was reality for SOME witches and warlocks out there, surely, but Zeke wasn't sure a necromancer's repertoire included 'summoning office supplies'.

Dried up, dead highlighters maybe. He snorted at the idea and fell into titters at the very thought.

"I'm sure he'll have at least one though. Highlighters are very useful, but I'm sure he'll buy you some if you ask him nicely." He was this close to just giving her the set he owned just because. Besides, it wasn't like they were expensive or hard to come by. A new set could easily be procured today even. "And I'm sure Lorenzo is VERY fun. It's not every day a Raevan gets to go home with someone who knows magic! That alone makes him SUPER interesting, don't you think?"

He could count all the magically-inclined Guardians he knew on one hand, even. He was sure there were more than the scant few he knew personally but even then, he hardly imagined their number would beat out the non-magic folks like himself.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:22 pm

"I remembered that he's magic," the rusalka announced, "That's why he has a horn on his forehead." Clearly pleased with her design abilities, she added some sparkles to it to demonstrate. She held up the picture and looked at it again, squinting, then added some pink sparkles for variety. Having exhausted her ideas for the moment, she put down her drawing and looked back to Zeke. "When is he going to get here?" she asked. It wasn't quite 6:30 yet, but the rusalka could only measure time by guessing, and through her excitement to be alive, she seemed slightly anxious. "I'm supposed to surprise him, right?"

At that moment, the door to the lobby opened, and the rusalka gasped, dropping her uncapped highlighter and floating rapidly up towards the ceiling, making a "shhhhh" gesture as she went. A man in a thick black cloak came in, rubbed his reddened cheeks to warm them, and took a deep breath. The rusalka was displeased to note that he did not look the slightest bit interesting. He was much less colorful than Zeke, and his clothing blocked out most of his silhouette. He was certainly not as well designed as her concept picture, and for a moment, she hoped that this was just a delivery boy or somesuch thing.

Her hopes were dashed when he looked up and said, "Hello, I'm Lorenzo Fisch, here to pick up my client," but she was gratified when he seemed confused to be greeted only by the sight of a grown man surrounded by office supplies and highlighter drawings.

Lorenzo coughed. "Do I have the right building?" he asked carefully.

"Soon, sweetheart," one of the knick knacks she had brought out was a small, red desk clock and he eyed the time for himself. "He lives a little ways away but I'm sure he's getting here as fast as he can! And...Yes, if you wa--"

The chime over the door went off and the Rusalka was suddenly rocketing toward the ceiling again. Zeke was torn between one or the other but ended up going with the former and the man who was now in the room, looking quite puzzled at the scene that lay before him. When Lorenzo announced that he was the expected Guardian, Zeke lit right up. He waved to welcome the necromancer farther into the lobby, nodding eagerly as he tried to quickly clear his lap of photos in order to stand up.

"You have it right, yes!" The one photo he had been holding on to since the blue Frei brought it out was still in hand as he held his right one out for Lorenzo to shake. "Welcome to the Lab, Lorenzo! It's great to finally meet you; I'm Zeke. Sorry for the mess ah..."

He looked back at the pile of assorted belongings and ticked his gaze up to where the true creator of the havoc was. He had spoken of surprising her man earlier and it seemed she had taken that to heart, but the way she was hanging around up there, he wasn't sure if he could put it past her to tackle him from above.

"I just had to go over a few things. You know how it is." He winked at the man and tried oh so subtlety to point up to where the Rusalka had tucked herself. He didn't want to spoil her surprise but at the same time, he couldn't have this poor man body slammed right off the street!
PostPosted: Tue Feb 16, 2016 3:56 pm

Lorenzo stepped hesitantly into the lobby, looking at the mess in front of him. "It's nice to meet you too, Zeke," he offered. "I have to thank you for the quick turnaround on behalf of the Lab. Without your prompt assistance, my client would have been in considerable trouble..."

His voice trailed off as he followed Zeke's finger, and he saw the rusalka frei just a few seconds before she came barreling down from the ceiling. Lorenzo's reflexes were just quick enough to hold out his arms and soften the blow by catching her, cushioning the momentum of the impact by spinning her around. The rusalka frei laughed as he slowed to a halt, and he held his head, giving himself a moment for the shock to wear off.

"You tried to get me in Russia, too," he told the frei lightly. "There's only so much my poor heart can take, you know!"

"Sorry," the rusalka said unrepentantly, taking advantage of Lorenzo's temporary distress to examine him up close. She floated back to Zeke and asked, "He's magic?" somewhat doubtfully.

"I'm more magic than I look," Lorenzo retorted. "Do you want to see?"

The rusalka nodded and floated closer to him, watching him expectantly. Lorenzo waited until she was right up in his face, then reached into his cape. A small bouquet of flowers appeared in his hands, and he handed them to her with a flourish. She startled and Lorenzo raised an eyebrow.

"Surprised you back," he joked.

"You were just hiding those!" the rusalka insisted.

"Well, my real magic is a little less suitable for Valentine's Day." Lorenzo replied cheerfully. "But I thought that since I was coming to pick you up anyway, I should stop and get you a gift." He smiled apologetically at Zeke. "I didn't pick up anything for you, I'm afraid. I hope I'm not disrupting any plans of your own tonight."

"I'll share with Zeke," the rusalka said. "He's shared all his things with me already." She paused, then asked, "Who's Valentine? Is that my name?" This was, after all, her big day.

Zeke watched the proceedings, pleased. To be quite honest, he hadn't been too sure about Lorenzo over the course of their emails. The necromancer's use of the word 'client' in regards to the Frei that would be born was something that had rubbed him oddly. Although he had said nothing of the sort, Zeke had still explained in one message that the 'client' whose soul had been given to create the blue Frei wouldn't really be said client anymore. As a Raevan, she would have no memories of her past life and would be an entirely unique being. Standalone.

Seeing the man now, however, put his doubts to rest. Zeke clapped at the magic trick, watching the interaction between the two strangers with a well-trained eye. He saw positives here, even from the get-go.

"Aw shucks!" When Lorenzo addressed him and his lack of gift for the vet, Zeke snapped his fingers and put on a disappointed face. "And here I was looking forward to a big ol' box of chocolate. Damn." He clucked his tongue and shook his head before immediately putting his airs back on and waving the apology away. "No need to apologize; this is her special day! And no worries about that, my better half and I are the 'Valentine's Day is every day' kind of guys."

He shrugged lightly even though he did have a few more things in store for the big Italian and spidery Frei at home.

"Aw, you don't have to do that, sweetheart! Lorenzo got those for you!" He turned his smile once more to her, chuckling when she asked about her name. "Well...It COULD be, but it's actually what this day is called. St. Valentine's Day - it's a holiday where you are extra special to those who are special to you!"

He gestured to her flowers and then to Lorenzo. A perfect Example A!

"As for your name...Hm. What do you think Lorenzo? Is she a Valentine for Valentine's?"
PostPosted: Thu Feb 18, 2016 9:45 pm

"Oh. Oh!" The rusalka frei's eyes widened as Zeke explained Valentine's Day. "Then I have to give you some flowers! I don't have anything else." She reached into the bouquet and handed Zeke a carnation. She seemed puzzled about what to give Lorenzo, but she was struck with inspiration soon enough. "I have something for you, too!" she announced, then she floated over and picked up her highlighter concept drawing, handing it over to him. He looked at it with a faint air of bemusement.

"I drew you," she explained.

"It's very high-concept," Lorenzo remarked, "Much better than I could do!" The rusalka seemed to be pleased to hear it.

Lorenzo paused when Zeke asked him about a name.

"I don't know!" he said, and turned to the rusalka. "I wanted to let you choose. Are you a Valentine?"

The rusalka stroked her chin. "I like Valentine's Day," she said, "But I don't want to share a name and a day with somebody." Looking back to Lorenzo, she asked, "What are some other names?"

Lorenzo seemed pleased that she asked. "Well, I actually brought a list of interesting Slavic names, for starters," he said, pulling out several 11x15 pieces of printer paper absolutely covered in dense writing. "I researched the meaning and origin of the names so that you could make an informed decision. Names are important in magic and necromancy, you know. And your soul hadn't had a name for a very long time, so I thought that it might be best for you to choose something you really liked."

The rusalka took the list and boggled at it, sorting through it carefully. "I didn't know that names meant so many things!" she said. Floating over to Zeke, she asked, "What kind of name would be coolest?" Though Lorenzo's magic trick had gained some points, apparently she still didn't consider him to be an authority on being cool.

"You're too sweet, but thank you." Despite what he had just said before, he took the flower she held out to him, tickled as pink as the flower was. As soon as he had them handled it would go right into a cup of water and then home with him at the end of the day.

"She spent a lot of time asking about you, I'll have you know." He gestured to the pile of things behind him, the open books in particular. "I wish we could have met before now so I could have better answered her questions!" Although now that they were together, the Frei would find out every little thing about her Guardian in no time, that he was certain.

He watched them go on about a name for her, brows raising when Lorenzo whipped out a college essay-size stack of papers that even from his spot off to the side he could see was absolutely covered in script. He gave a low whistle, brows still aloft even as the Rusalka came over to him for his advice.

"How did you keep your hands from falling off when you wrote all this?!" He laughed a little as he pulled a few pages apart from the rest and let them fall back down as he flipped. "I admire your dedication! Handwritten and everything, wow!" When the Rusalka questioned him, he crouched down to her level, squinting at her face and sucking on his lip ring.

"Hmmm...A name like 'Rattlesnake' would be considered cool, but I don't know if you're quite the type for that." To his eyes the Frei was the very definition of 'dainty' and all manners of blue from the top of her short, ruler-straight bob of a haircut to the tip of her dark-to-light blue ombre ribbon. "You do have a LOT of names to pick from here, and these are only Slavic ones! Mine is Hebrew in origin and Lorenzo...Well that HAS to be Italian otherwise I'm a disgrace to my loved ones, hah!"

All the same, he ran a long finger over the top sheet of paper, reading each name in turn but sparing himself and her by not going farther than that as he did so.

"Well I can safely say a lot of these have potential, but I think you should really avoid this one right here." He tapped a name that had been written twice in the same line. One had a C, the other had an S inside it instead. Not actually a Slavic name, but used famously for a Russian and it seemed Lorenzo had made a note of that as well. "This one is already taken, you see, and I don't think she'd be willing to share even if you spell it with the S instead of the C."

The corners of his eyes crinkled and he picked up the photo of the Frei the Rusalka had used as inspiration for her drawing of Lorenzo, holding it out for her to take.

"This is Anastacia, but we call her Anya for short. She's my Raevan."
PostPosted: Thu Feb 25, 2016 11:44 pm

Lorenzo smiled apologetically. "I wish we could have, too! I felt bad sending so many emails. Sadly though, necromancers don't get any rest till they're dead." He left the joke hanging, and when nobody seemed to be laughing, he cleared his throat and moved on. "Anyway, research is my specialty!" he said, gesturing at the list of names. "And I wanted to make things easy for her."

The rusalka didn't seem to be having any easier a time with the list of names than she'd had moments ago when the only names she knew were Zeke, Lorenzo, and Valentine. "Rattlesnake is pretty cool," she agreed, "I'll add it to the list, just in case." She picked up a highlighter and wrote it at the bottom, working it into a tiny free corner. "I didn't know that there were different types of names, though! Why are these only one type?"

This time Lorenzo cut in. "Since rusalki are Slavic, I thought a Slavic name might be nice. It'll give you a sense of connection with your heritage." He gestured to himself, and said, "That's why my name is Italian, because my mother's side of the family is the necromantic side, and we're necromancers who were originally from Italy."

The rusalka nodded solemnly and began to mouth some of the names to herself, testing them out. When Zeke cut in, she repeated, "Anastacia," but audibly this time. "It means 'resurrection'?" she asked, consulting the list.

"Maybe that one would be a little too apt for a necromancer's client anyway," Lorenzo chuckled. "It's probably for the best."

"Anya can have it," the rusalka deemed. "She called dibs." She ran down the list again and paused at 'Rattlesnake', but shook her head. Floating up close to Zeke and reaching gently for his sleeve, she asked, "I can't change my mind after I decide, right? Can I look at them all and tell you later? I want to make sure I do a good job!"

He waved off the apologetic smile.

"Don't feel bad about it! I was more than happy to read and reply to them! Besides, we can rectify that 'not having met' situation now that we have met each other!" He beamed, looking back down at the notes. "Well if I ever need anything researched, I guess I know who to call!"

When the Rusalka added the not-serious name to Lorenzo's meticulously gathered names, the vet laughed. If she did end up choosing that name, he wasn't quite sure what he would do with himself. He would apologize profusely to be sure, but other than that? He might end up in the hospital with ruptured lungs from laughing too hard.

"Plus there are many, many names in the world. I don't think Lorenzo would be able to collect them all for you without the collection being thousands of pages long!" At the necromancer's mention of being Italian deeper than his name, Zeke perked up and looked at him. "Parli qualsiasi italiano, Lorenzo?" His accent was a slight thing and marked him as someone who had learned the language rather than been born speaking it.

"Yeah, it does, doesn't it?" He looked down at the name Anastacia when the Rusalka mentioned it. He kept mum about it being a little too apt for his own Raevan, edging on ironic. "I'll be sure to let her know you let her keep it. She'll be glad to know she won't have to give it up anytime soon."

He grinned, but in the back of his mind he was already working it to play a joke on the Widow when he got home. He did put it on the back burner for now though, at least once the blue Frei tugged on his sleeve.

"Mmm...No I don't think so, sweetheart. At least, we've never had a Raevan change their name after the fact." He considered her request, sucking on his lip ring as he thought about it. It would be out of the ordinary but then again, everything about this had been out of the ordinary. Why not keep up the trend? "Since you asked so nicely, I think I can let you do that. Lorenzo has my email and my phone number so when you pick your name you let me know right away, okay?"

He winked at the girl and patted her arm gently, looking at her Guardian before gesturing to the desk.

"But you, my friend, still have to sign the last bit of paperwork I have for you. No getting out of this one or putting it off for later, I'm afraid!"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 03, 2016 5:37 pm

"Sì, naturalmente!" Lorenzo replied easily, "Although my Latin is better." Necromantic magic called far more often for Latin than any other language, and if there was any language that was an industry standard, what better language than one that most people considered to be dead?

"Thank you!" the rusalka said gratefully, her head still spinning slightly from the idea of there being thousands of names to choose from-- even the selection Lorenzo had made seemed a little overwhelming.

As Zeke went on and told her to call or use email, Lorenzo cut in. "You can tell him yourself," he said, "Because I have one more gift for you." He pulled out a pastel smartphone, which he handed to the rusalka, warning "Careful, it's fragile."

The rusalka held it gingerly and furrowed her brow, puzzled. "It's cute! This is a phone...?" It didn't look anything like the phones she had seen in the Lab.

"It's your cellphone," Lorenzo explained. "You can bring it with you anywhere and call me if you need anything." He took it from her and said, "See, you key in a code to unlock it, and then we'll add a new contact--"

"I can do it!" the rusalka insisted now that she felt she had a grasp on it. She grabbed it back and floated over to Zeke, asking, "How do I call you...?"

"Ask for his number," Lorenzo suggested.

"What's your number, Zeke?" she amended.

Lorenzo left her to figure things out and headed over to the desk to take a look at the paperwork. "Handling paperwork is most of my job. I think I can tackle this one without asking for an extension," he joked. Looking over everything carefully, he uncapped his pen and signed it with a flourish, handing it over to Zeke. "Is there any other business?" he asked.

"Hah! I guess that makes sense; a "dead" language for a necromancer's spells!" He couldn't help but grin at that little jab, unwittingly running parallel to Lorenzo's own thoughts on the matter.

"Wow! That's a new model too, isn't it?" He was amused, watching the two of them go over the phone before the Rusalka assured Lorenzo she had the jist of it. If the necromancer kept this up, his Raevan was going to become quite spoiled at this rate. Not that that was a bad thing; Zeke was all about lavishing gifts on his own Frei and took delight in seeing her reactions to the latest thing he had gotten just because he thought she might like it.

"My cellphone number is 555-6433." He pulled his own phone out and next to the Rusalka's pretty pastel phone his own smartphone looked dinged up and outdated. He was overdue for an upgrade but where did the time go most days? He would rectify it soon; he was curious as to what other colors that particular phone she had came in. "My home number is 555-1826. You can save both of them under my name and even list them under 'home' and 'cell' so you know which one you're calling! Now I just need yours so I can add you to my contacts. You should be able to find it in the settings, I think."

He hovered just over her shoulder, trying not to do things for her but helping to point out where the settings were and where her number might be located. Lorenzo's words helped to pull him away from doing that, beaming at the man before shaking his head.

"Not that I can immediately think of! You have the contact list already, she's in perfect health, and if there's anything left it's just that I need to sign those forms myself and then you're both set to go on home!" A quick scan of the forms would take less than a moment to do to make sure Lorenzo's side of things was okay. "Well...unless you have any questions for me? She asked me a lot already but I think I'm still good for a few more if need be."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 03, 2016 7:39 pm

The rusalka seemed hesitant, but with Zeke's help, she managed to put in his phone number. It was a little more difficult for her to find her own phone number, and, after a few frustrating moments, Lorenzo offered, "If you just call him and hang up, he'll have your number." A few moments later, the deed was done, and the rusalka clutched the phone to her chest.

"As soon as I think of a good name, I'll call you!" she promised.

As Zeke said she could go home, it hit her for the first time that she was actually leaving the Lab. She felt a little bubble of anxiety rise in her chest and unconsciously reached out for his sleeve again. Lorenzo was nice, but it hadn't actually sunk in that she was going to live with him. There was so much about him already that seemed strange. He was so different from Zeke!

Luckily for her, Lorenzo had questions for Zeke, and she had at least a few moments to adjust.

"Yes, actually," he said, pulling out his phone and checking the time to make sure he wasn't keeping Zeke too late. "I was wondering about her powers. Do we discover those over time, or have you tested to see what they are? Also, I see that physically she seems to have taken after her soul a great deal." He gestured at her skin, which appeared pale and undead to him. "I plan to run a few common tests for recently undead people to make sure that she doesn't have difficulty adjusting, but I was wondering if you had a more specific gauge of how much the rusalka soul affected her body? And there's also the matter of her food. I know this varies from raevan to raevan, but do we know what she eats?"

"Ah yeah, that works too." As soon as she rang and hung up he had her number saved, the name for his newest contact momentarily reserved under the mysterious '???'. "I look forward to it! I'm sure you'll give it lots of thought and pick the one that best suits you, little lady."

She then reached for his sleeve and he did one better for her and held her hand. Her skin was chilly, but cold hands weren't unnatural for people and so the vet was hardly bothered by the sensation. He even gave their joined hands a little swing.

"You ask the hard hitting ones, I see!" He chuckled at that but shook his head. "Powers appear on their own and not before they're ready. She hasn't displayed anything other than a creative streak thus far, but you never know! Tomorrow she could be doing all sorts of things!" He looked down at the Rusalka and beamed, curious as to what she would eventually be able to do. Her Essence was False Reflection so if he had to guess, he imagined Lorenzo would have some interesting shaving experiences sometime in the future.

"I don't think she'll have any problems adjusting but as far as what the soul lends, it varies from Raevan to Raevan. Some take on greater aspects of it, like my Anya, for example." Although there was a damn good reason for that in the form of a magical seal. "Others lean more toward their Essences. Mostly it seems to be an even split for the greater populace of Raevans. A perfect blend, if you will." He gave the Rusalka's hand another swing. "I can with certainty say that her Essence will dictate her food. But I can't say what she eats as I don't know myself!" He looked down at her and gave her hand a squeeze. "What do you say, sweetheart? Are you feeling hungry at all?"
