Lately, the local market places have been filled with new traders offering their wares. It seem as if many across the land are trying their hand at selling clothing, weapons, and trinkets. With so many new faces, now is the best time to go to the market and barter for the best prices.

So go ahead and grab your goods or grab your gold and take a shot at bartering.


There was nothing quite like being able to get out of the house for some shopping… Or shoplifting. Solari got a thrill lout of stealing things right in front of people’s eyes. Funny thing was her mother always sent her out thinking that Solari got the best prices out of things because she brought back so much things for so little gold. It was like a win win for everyone. Her mother got more herbs and whatever she needed, Solari got to steal, and their boss got to save money. It also meant that her mother didn’t send anyone else out to haggle and barter with the merchants since no one was as good as she was.

List in hand with two bags, Solari headed out to the market. It was extremely busy, busier than she’d ever seen it in fact. There were also a lot of foreign things, items that came from all over the mainland even some from Yaeli. Perhaps she’d pick up some special herbs from Yaeli for her parents to play with. She bet the Yaelians we’re quite easy to steal from too. Before she went and stole some things from the Yaelians though she needed to make sure she grabbed everything on her list. Then and only then she could play.

Heading to the first stall, one that was exceptionally busy, Solari watched as the merchant dealt with his clients. He nodded at her to acknowledge her and let her do her thing. She needed fresh herbs and so picked up the first bundle what of what she needed and gave it a good smell. It wasn’t as fresh as she had hoped for but it was good enough for now. Solari waved at the man to catch his attention.

“How much for this?”

“10 pieces.”

“It’s not even that fresh, I’ll give you 6.”

“Too low, 8.”

“Oh come on, 7?”

“Fine,” the merchant groaned and grabbed the money that she extended before she went ahead and started looking for other herb bundles while placing that bundle and another into her bag. Since she’d paid, he move do to another client. So she’d gotten two bundles for much lower than anyone else would get. Solari didn’t feel bad, she knew the merchant tripled the price when he sold his wares, it was his fault he was getting robbed. All he had to do was simply not raise the prices.

Solari moved off and went to see the Yaelian vendor that had caught her eye. As she got to his stand she saw that he had many herbs from Yaeli and she was more than interested in a few of them.

“May I ask you what the herbs are for? I’m looking for medical herbs mainly.”

“Yes of course”

Solari listened to the Yaelian as he explained all his medical herbs to her in detail. She committed them to memory as she would most likely have to recount everything to her mother before making the mental count of everything she’d pay for and everything she would not.

“Okay, I’d like to have two of these, three of those, just one of these since they were expensive right?” The Yaelian nodded. “And three of these as well.” The merchant picked them up and put them aside for her before beginning his count.”

“That’s twenty-four pieces for the lot.”

“That’s it?” Solari asked finding it a little on the cheap side and wondering how much more she’d be able to get out of it.

“That’s it.”

Solari pursed her lips a little, should she haggle? The prices seemed reasonable to her. She decided to try anyways.

“ Fifteen.”

“Fifteen? You’re crazy, twenty-four.”

“Eighteen?”

“Oh come on lady, you’re trying to steal from me! Twenty-four.”

“Well give me some wiggle room. Twenty one?” The merchant contemplated it before nodding his head.

“Twenty one.” Solari didn’t really like those odds much.

The man handed her a small bag with the herbs she’d requested and took her money and as he turned around Solari snipped three other herbs quickly before turning around and walking away. She had gotten a good days’ worth of goods and now she wanted to go and get a little snack for herself. So Solari headed to the snack stand and picked up a few things for herself before heading home. She of course made sure all the sweets had been eaten before she arrived home, she didn’t want her mother finding out she was actually stealing from merchants after all.
