Character's Answer: "It's not what most people think. The word 'harem' comes from the Arabic 'haram', meaning a sacred or forbidden place. It's traditionally associated with a place where a man might keep his wives and other members of his household, and has been used variously to refer to either the residents, or to an area with locked quarters that was forbidden for most people to enter. It's the latter part my home has - we're sort of hosting a foreigner right now, and she's living in our basement. Ah, don't worry, it's not like it's just a concrete block or anything - it's fully furbished, since my family does construction work and originally built it as a place to show off various techniques. Anyway, our guest has some really bad allergies, including sensitivity to sunlight, and she often has some female friends over, so we like to joke that she's part of her own private harem. Please rest assured, Ms. Amagai, that nothing inappropriate is actually going on there. On the other hand, it's not guts and blood that truly make a horror movie, although they definitely help. Frankenstein's Monster is rare because he's a monster that most people genuinely sympathize with, but in the end he does the most horrific things. Good horror films give you a connection to what's going on. You have to care about someone if the bad things are going to matter to you, and it takes a real expert to make you care about the monster.
