The journey merges into one; I mean if you do something often enough it becomes routine, keep doing it and your brain becomes even more complacent. It is a recognised brain function; you think about your destination and avoiding hazards, but you do not think about keeping your legs moving or the individual turns and crossings you need to take to lead you home.
This happens so you can focus on other things; like the text message you just received, skipping over songs on your music player or kneeling to stroke the stray cat that just crossed your path. The brain works on different levels and more arbitrary tasks are sent into the background of your psyche so the routine centre in your brain can deal with them.
Most people call it autopilot. But there’s danger there.'
Destiny City had been a dangerous place for a very long time now. For as long as she could remember she had seen reports on the news about people going missing, about organ harvesting rings and about terrorists partaking in open warfare in the streets. Things had been dangerous for such a long time; the people were getting complacent.
'It was like the whole seatbelt scenario; clunk -click, every trip. However sometimes it does not cross your mind, especially on short trips and you drive down the streets without being buckled in. All it would take is one wrong move to launch you through the windscreen and then it would be game; but you do not expect it to happen. Bad things, the happen all the time; you just never expect it to happen to you. We all think we are immortal.'
So when kendo overrun and Kristen found herself walking home late; she did not think too much of it. She wrapped herself up in her coat, grabbed her school bag and started down the same trip she taken down one-thousand times before. Earphones in and commencing autopilot as her brain wondered to think about all the things she needed to take care of before the party this weekend.
What will you do on the weekends
When your best friends
Become your dead friends?
From all the sugar
And all the sweetness
This little sweet tooth
It is your weakness
When your best friends
Become your dead friends?
From all the sugar
And all the sweetness
This little sweet tooth
It is your weakness
She wondered if Katherine and Monica had made up, and if it was a good idea to get them in the same room so soon. I mean the whole thing was Brad's fault... but if she did not invite him then Trevor would not turn up and if he did not turn up she could not set him up with Chantelle. At the same time, she did not want to alienate Monica - she did not understand why Katherine was so mad with her in the first place. Afterall she was cheating on Brad with Marcus anyway! She rolled her eyes at the teenage drama that surrounded her life; in truth she loved it. Kristen had always been the leader of the pack and thrived off of being the centre of it all. She was everybody's best friend and the girl everyone wanted to be or be with.
She got out her phone and started to scroll down the facebook group that she made dedicated to this weekends shenanigans; people had been posting all day. She also had a text from Katherine; Monica had told Brad about Marcus, she did not think she wanted to turn up and make it awkward for everyone.. Kristen smiled; well the problem seemed to have sorted itself out.
'Do not worry about it, we will get together during the week and drown our sorrows in ice-cream. Miss you though! ): xxx' - She sent her a message and as she did her feet decided to take the short cut to the taxi rank, like she did every day; and that was the moment. That one mindless decision she had taken whilst distracted that would get in into all kinds of trouble.
They've got american candy
You're sweet and sated, so sedated
For the american kids
You're hooked and baited, annihilated
Even if you wanted to
You couldn't stop it's just so sweet
But this american candy
It'll rot your teeth.
You're sweet and sated, so sedated
For the american kids
You're hooked and baited, annihilated
Even if you wanted to
You couldn't stop it's just so sweet
But this american candy

'If I had just taken a moment and thought; yea I come this way all the time, but usually straight after school not near midnight. If I would have asked myself if it was safe to go through the park alone at night - If only I was paying attention, I would have taken the longer and safer route around the park. However I was not thinking, my feet were directing themselves.'
Instead she walked into the darkness of the park and through the tall trees that cancelled out the light from the moon. Her face was illuminated my her phone screen as her eyes adjusted to the dark. Though the further she walked the night the more anxious she got, her senses suddenly heightened and even though she took this journey every day she suddenly felt like she was being watched. The red head took out her earphones and looked over her shoulder, pausing where she stood for a moment. Everything looked so different at this hour, the unease and surreality of it all brought her back to reality.
Why had she come this way?
Something was wrong.
"s**t."
She whispered under her breathe before she continued down the path through the lonely park, her slow pace becoming more of a sprint as she tried to reach the main road again.

Go get her tiger!
