The setting takes place thousands of years into the future where mankind has finally set their sights off and away from Earth. (Roughly around 8,000 AD) Earth had become a utopia of technology and peace, (meaning there were no weapons.) but the problems of overpopulation begun to arise which they saw could boil into a devastating war upon the planet. In order to satisfy all of mankind they built great machines capable of traveling and colonizing any world remotely similar in make to Earth. This made mankind into a galaxy wide species, although strangely they had yet to run into any form of intelligent alien life form, or at least not on the planets they deemed habitable by man. They had found what could be be described as "animals" on other planets, but nothing that created civilizations like mankind did. The animals were a great boon however as they provided early labor forces and sources of food. One planet even had Earthlike dogs on it.
In one of these solar systems is a planet formerly known as Earth #34 and it is where the story takes place. It's a small solar system with only two planets Earth #34, now known as Lim, and Shide. These two planets as well as a handful of space stations and an orbiting satellite on the outer rim comprise the entirety of the solar system. Lim has been colonized for only about 20 years but had been discovered for about 30.
Lim is very much like Earth in it's make. It has a near perfect atmosphere making it possible to enjoy the sunshine and air like you would on Earth. It's gentle wildlife and abundant fruits and soil make it a perfect planet for cultivating, and can even grow imported seeds from Earth meaning they have apples. It has plenty of land and water much like Earth and keeps a comfortable temperature during both winter and summer. It's night and day cycles are a little longer than Earth's but only by eight hours. This made Lim a prime choice for a wonderful civilization to bud and grow. They had built great cities and continued to grow on their new home world. The planet Shide was the last thing they had on mind. They were going to make a second Earth, a second utopia on Lim. Had it worked out as they had expected.
The neighboring planet Shide was more or less the planetary version of a parasite. The "creatures" or better put, monsters from this planet found a way to get from their planet to Lim. This turned Lim into a planetary wasteland. The creatures invaded the peaceful people, who had long abandoned weaponry and the carnage was slow and bloody. Millions upon millions of lives were lost, and Lim was lost. The planet however was still abundant and was still a valuable resource. Now however it was lost, and all life was presumably wiped out. The creatures from Shide were merciless in their actions and almost seemed driven to wipe out all of mankind from the planet Lim.
As for Shide's atmosphere it cannot be entered without heavy duty armor, and a heavier stomach for danger. The skies of this planet are always a dark red with black clouds. It's presumed that this is merely it's atmosphere and the chemicals that make it, but some fanatics believe the planet to merely be evil. The temperatures range from scorching hot to below freezing. As for the wild life all of it is dangerous. Every being on the planet sort of oozes this feeling of murderous intent and a sort of intelligence not yet met, an intelligence that works to eradicate anything foreign.
The last few humans left on Lim however sent out a distress signal, one that reached even Earth itself which was extremely strange. The signal seemed to bypass all the other colonization's and hit Earth. Earth sent out a team to investigate the planet but when all that was returned to them was a second distress signal they decided it was time to take a more drastic measure. It was clear to Earth that all life on Lim had been wiped out, but now they needed to recover it.
Earth finally broke a thousand year long peace to build weapons, weapons that they would only give to the most highly trained warriors they had. Seeing as there were very little who still trained to fight it was difficult but Earth had managed some form of a defense and put all their resources into these people. They had hope that Lim could be recovered. The planet was too good to lose, and had far too much raw resources on it to give it away to the creatures of Shide. The people they sent were all the hope they had, and for some reason they felt if something wasn't done more would happen. For Earth had learned three years after the first signal that the signal did not come from Lim's surface......
