Here she was standing outside the great house of Hawthorn once more. It had been a while since she'd been there, but even so she still had to adjust to the size difference. Her little basement room had nothing on this place, and she always enjoyed getting to hang out there when she was allowed. Now she was there to watch movies and she couldn't be more excited. She honestly couldn't even remember the last time she'd seen a movie, or even what her favorite movie was. She guessed this was the time to catch up on it all. The only thing she'd even heard about coming out recently was Star Wars, but she'd never seen it so it didn't really concern her.
"I guess actually knocking on the door would help a lot," she muttered to herself, realizing she'd still just been staring at the door like an idiot. She'd invited Max along to join in on the movie night shenanigans, but she'd forgotten to ask if he even remembered where their place was. She'd just have to hope he didn't get too lost.

He watched her standing there... not knocking... as he approached at a leisurely stroll, hands in his pockets. As grateful as Max always was to spend time with Diana, and as interesting as he found Chel and Jack, this whole thing was a little weird, all because of the damn t-shirt. The t-shirt he wasn't going to mention in mixed company. The t-shirt he was positive had to be a joke, because if not, what the ********>? The very existence of the thing toppled the balance he felt around her, reminding him that there were truths he would never know and mysteries he would never uncover. Max inhaled through his nose, packing the shirt in the taped up envelope it had come in and shoving it into the corner of his mind, allowing himself a smile at her apparent indecisiveness.
"Have you already pissed them off?" he asked, voice betraying his mirth before she might have turned around. "Kicked out before we even got any popcorn."

The reality was much simpler than Max thought: Chel had to put on pants before any doors could be opened. Not to imply Jack and Chel had been doing anything of that nature (in fact Jack had been in a different room entirely when the door had been knocked on) but Chel was just the kind of person that didn't wear pants.
For the record, Chel would have been fine going pantsless but upon leaving the room Jack had veto'd the look after a single glance.
Which brings us to the story as it is now, with Chel in a pair of ripped jeans answering the door for Max and Diana. "Eyyy, sup." She opened up to the rest of the room, gesturing them inside, eyes scanning behind them for sign of shadows. Just in case.

With the door opening as a signal, Jack got up, shuffled his papers to something a little more organized, shut the binder, and went out to help greet the guests. "Hey. Get in before she freezes and gives new meaning to the words 'ice crotch'," he called from upstairs as he lazily made his way down, several of the steps creaking.
The house looked old from the outside and still to some degree was on the inside, despite the refurbishing. But at least they had a working heater and a small fire place to boot; at least one of them was in constant use now thanks to the sudden shift in weather, in no small part because Chel couldn't handle the cold. Max and Diana would also be greeted by the smell of buttered popcorn and freshly brewed coffee.
"Shoes over there," Jack added, indicating the small shelf they'd find to the left of the mat. "Chel, did you find those blankets?" One couldn't call him particularly sociable, but Jack Hawthorn could be very accommodating when he wanted to be.

"Shoes wherever," Chel countered and insisted. "And no, I didn't know I was lookin' for them."

Diana nodded, placing her shoes where indicated despite Chel's counter. She would hate to get their home dirty, plus she was pretty used to not wearing shoes. Not like they really gave them shoes in prison. Though toasty blankets did sound like a wonderful thing at the moment. Even now with her own room she didn't have a lot. A small blanket and worn down pillow were hardly comfortable.
"I really need to get one of these home things eventually," she muttered more to herself. She was just pleased to have a friend willing to put up with her long enough, let alone let her visit the large home.
"So how have things been?" she continued, tugging Max closer and motioning to him. "This is Max. In case you forgot the time you all met!"

Nudging off his shoes, Max followed his arm, standing next to Diana as he was reintroduced. It was probably a good thing that she was doing so since he never would have, and he was pretty sure he was still Max to one of the Hawthorns and Porter to the other. If they were going to spend an evening together, consistency would be nice.
"I remember you both just fine," he said, tamping down a smirk. "How's married life so far?" He had plenty of other questions about hunters and houses and weapons and the promise of death that hung over this place, but none of them were appropriate for a fun little get-together. Or maybe they were, but he certainly wasn't going to open with them.

He opened his mouth to argue, at least until he remembered he hadn't actually told her anything yet. Damn.
"Max and Diana, I remember. Homes are an option once you've ascended the ranks," Jack informed them as he set about finding the blankets himself. "That, or a room on the second floor of the dorms. They're like a small apartment. Most would say it's the safer option." But really, what was safe here at Deus?
There was a small chest where they kept their blankets--well, at least when one of them remembered to fold them up. Jack snatched three of the thicker ones, unsure if the Canadians were actually bothered by the cold here.
"As for married life, well, it goes. Not really much different than before." As Chel had put it once, they'd done it more for fun than anything else. Gesturing with his head for the pair to follow him into the den, where the tv waited, he asked, "How're you acclimating to island life?"

Correction- when Jack remembered to fold them up. Chel did not do this mystical "folding" you speak of.
While Jack busied himself with Being A Good Host, Chel simply leaned against the door behind them and followed the conversation. "Yeah, the second floor rooms ain't that bad. I liked bein' around everyone. Felt a lot homier." It was no secret that Chel preferred dorm life, but she wouldn't have been out here if she hadn't wanted to be. "House's s'nice and quiet but s**t breaks all the time and you hafta fix it yourself." Chel also didn't mention the fact that they'd had to build it in the first place.
"Which movie we watchin'?" she asked, gesturing them towards the living room.

"Well I am open to suggestions. I haven't really seen a lot of movies, so I am no expert," Diana admitted, feeling a bit embarrassed about it. She really couldn't think of a single movie she'd seen in a long time. She followed the pair into the living room, sticking close to Max as she did so.
"As long as we stay away from zombie movies all is good with me. I don't think I'm ready for that just yet."

"The island's all right. Better than the alternative." He still felt like some useless civilian flailing at things that wanted to kill him, but the more rational parts of his brain suspected that there was little difference between him and any other average trainee.
"As far as movies...? Probably not anything three hours long, unless you want me snoring through the end," Max added. "I guess not animated either? Maybe?" He had nothing against kiddie movies personally, and Caper would have loved one, he just had a bit of a hard time believing Jack would share that opinion. And how many Disney things could they possibly have around here anyway? Whatever movie they ended up choosing would have to be something they already owned, wouldn't it? While it could have been some closely guarded island-wide secret, he imagined he would have heard of Deus Netflix by now, had it existed.
He didn't bother affirming Diana's call for no zombies, though he did agree with it. Movie zombies were nothing like the undying, he just didn't really feel like going there tonight.
"I vote for something actiony, but I'm fine with anything, really."

Chel opened her mouth for a moment to ask why Diana hadn't seen a lot of movies and then she remembered- oh yeah, prison. Probably had some kind of backstory there that Chel didn't want to accidentally touch on before Diana was ready.
"Ah s**t. Yeah fer sure," Chel agreed on the point of zombies. Max was at least right about the lack of Disney; neither Hawthorn was very into kiddish movies unless very, very drunk to the point where anything was fun. There was the beat-up Lord of the Rings box set, but Chel didn't feel right sharing that with other people. "We got Sucker Punch," she offered, mouth already curling into a smile. One of her favorites and one she was almost sure Jack would shoot down from sheer number of times she'd watched it.
She gave an impish look to Diana and said, "F'he falls asleep, we got markers."

"Zombie genre's oversaturated with s**t now anyway." Either the infected were blase in comparison to what they'd fought before, Jack had little sensitivity when it came to Diana's and Max's previous situations, or he wasn't particularly wont to be reminded of them himself. The scar at his neck hadn't darkened in months, but he didn't take that peace with more than a grain of salt because Deus.
Jack rolled his eyes at Chel's suggestion, but he wasn't in the mood to quarrel about what to watch. "It's got plenty of action," he told them. "You'll just probably be confused as hell as to what's actually going on." He then gestured for their guests to take a seat on the worn, dull couch; less IKEA, more quartermaster's pick, but at least it wasn't stiff.
"Preference in drinks?" Jack's voice carried as he left them for a moment to return to the kitchen. "Coffee, soda, water, juice?" Always had to have juice for Chel.
