Zack had been gone for days, and it was messing Evan up. He wasn't eating, wasn't sleeping. He was just worrying.
He should have gone to the police. He knew he should have, but he also knew Zack wouldn't have appreciated anyone digging into his private business.
But when Evan hadn't heard anything from Zack in so long—when it was starting to get too hard to keep covering for him at work, or justify waiting, he'd gone out.
Which was hard for him, since Evan hated being out at night, hated being in dangerous areas, and had been attacked—by people and monsters—on multiple occasions.
But people went missing in Destiny City all the time, and he wasn't going to let someone so important to him get lost.
Even if there wasn't much that he could do, he was at least going to try.
So, he'd started in the easier places. Called up a few 'friends'. Asked around Zack's usual haunts. Started to check the alleyways he used to lurk when he was getting in trouble.
His heart was pounding and he was jumping at every little sound; he could have sworn he saw movement out of the corner of his eyes just a minute ago, but beyond that the whole area seemed dead. Which was unusual; these crummy back alleys were a hotspot for criminal activity. Drug dealing, prostitution.
But if it was so empty, that meant that something had chased them away—and that either meant the police…or something worse.

Patrolling was what Senshi did and being a Senshi it was what Enif had taken to doing at night. Well, as long as homework and choir practice got the attention it needed because those things were still the most important to her. She could always pay attention to the Cantonese workbook when she got home, if she wasn't tired anyway. It wasn't like her dad needed to know she didn't work on it every night. (ugh, but really how childish? It was like something a middle schooler would work out of or something. She knew more Cantonese then that thanks.) It was probably due to her appearance that the alley was clear of much, not that much had been going on before she'd arrived. But when people saw Sailor Suited Soldiers no one really hung around because they usually brought trouble. Or something like that. She'd read it in a newspaper once. "This isn't really a spot for innocent people to be nosing around," she called out before stepping into view. Her bangles jingled a bit with each step, arms swaying slightly. They always did when she walked and she still couldn't fathom why. "You should really go home."

Evan nearly jumped out of his skin at the voice, and when he spun to address it, he froze—and even though he sucked in a sharp breath and watched her with wide eyes, he seemed to relax.
He'd come out here expecting to see people waving around knives or guns.
This? This wasn't so bad.
He swallowed and clenched his hands into fists. "To be fair, this isn't really a place for anyone to be nosing around."
He knew what people used this area for. She probably did, too.
"But I don't really have a choice. You're—you're a senshi, right? Or…are you a knight? I can't tell the difference."
But she wasn't a prostitute or drug dealer. At least, from what he could tell. They usually dressed to blend in and she really wasn't blending in.

White and pastel? Yea, no she didn't blend in at all. Especially not with the gold accents. Still, she didn't quite think she looked like a knight? She hadn't seen any so she wasn't sure what the difference outfit wise was, but the small little sailor collar and butt bow should have been a give away? Maybe? What did she know, she was still new to all of this. "Sailor Senshi," she replied instead, offering a little smile. "Sailor Enif, to be exact. Senshi of Pegasi." Did he really need to know that? Ugh, it seemed to be an automatic response these days. "And no, this isn't a place for anyone to be nosing about, but I do have a job to do and I do it with pride. Even if it takes me to unsavory places." Wasn't going to admit the alley had been empty before she'd shown up. "But what do you mean you don't have a choice?" A slight head tilt, causing the pink and orange hair to shift against her cheek some. "Is everything alright?"

Evan watched her and debated for a moment before nodding. "Pegasi? That's cool."
He wasn't exactly a guy who ever cared for horses, but he had a sister and remembered growing up with her and her porcelain collection. He paused and gave her a brief, scrutinous look to make sure it wasn't her.
…If it had been her, she probably wouldn't have even stopped for him.
He looked around the alley, as if trying to find some clue that someone was hiding. Absentmindedly, he replied, "My friend is missing. He used to have friends around here, so I'm trying to see if they know anything."
He clutched his bag a little closer; it was cleat that he didn't want to be here; he was pale and shaking, and not just because of the cold, but he had a steely determination and was pushing through all his reservations.
"…He's not in any of the hospitals, not in any jails. Sometimes his recreational hobbies have him disappearing for a few days at a time, but this doesn't feel the same. He didn't tell anyone he was going anywhere, didn't plan. So I'm worried." His voice quieted. "…I know how bad youma can be. I just. I'm hoping he ******** up and got in over his head. I want to find him down here more than anything."
Because if he didn't, the alternatives were looking pretty grim.
"…I don't suppose you've seen anything out of the ordinary recently? …I mean—if you've been around here," he suddenly perked up and seemed hopeful. He pulled out his wallet and pulled out a picture—a decent picture, of a smirking blonde guy. He had a light smattering of freckles, and bright eyes; he looked coy, and content. It seemed to be a candid picture, judging the slightest hint of annoyance in his eyes.
Evan held it up to show her. "—Have you seen this guy at all?"

"I suppose so," she replied with a shrug. She couldn't really do much with her attack? And it wasn't like she could actually summon a pegasus to ride into battle or something so. Now that would have been cool. The mood shifted, however, when he answered her question; telling her that he was looking for a missing friend. A frown marred her features and she found herself looking around absentmindedly. She almost wished she'd been patrolling around the area more. Maybe she might have seen him and could have been some help. She did make sure to take a good, long look at the picture. Maybe trying to commit it to memory so she could keep an eye out for the missing young man. "I'm sad to say I haven't. I think I've been through this area only once before and he doesn't look at all familiar to me." She felt kind of bad for that. "But I can try and keep an eye out for him whenever I'm out and about." Maybe try and find him for him? "How long has he been gone?"

Evan's face fell but he wasn't surprised. He shrugged and tucked the picture back into his wallet. "A few days. But he has friends that used to be around in this area. I figured if something was going on that he wasn't going to tell me, maybe they would know. He has…a lot of friends. In weird places. Sometimes…"
He hesitated for a minute and then shrugged, choosing his words carefully. "Sometimes they get into dangerous situations, so if he was in trouble…I don't know. But you not seeing him isn't a bad thing, so don't feel bad about it or anything. It just means you haven't seen him get into trouble, right?" He forced a quick laugh; it was clear that he was worried but trying to brush it off.
"For all I know he decided to take an impromptu trip and lost his cell phone or something, you know? He, uh. Sometimes he does impulsive things like that. He can take care of himself."
Or, at least, that’s what he was trying to convince himself.
Zack could take care of himself, he knew that.
But Evan just hated feeling helpless and not knowing what was going on.
His shoulders slumped.
"…Thanks, though. If you see him, if you could tell him to go home or call someone, that would be great. And, uh. Thanks for…the other things you do. Taking care of people, trying to make this place a little safer."
He shrugged, eyes on the ground. "…Just. In case you don't hear it enough, thanks."

It was hard to see him worry, not knowing what his friend could be going through. She didn't know him, true, but... Well there was always the possibility of a "worst case" in the outcome of his friend and she didn't wish that outcome on anyone. She knew well the aftermath of that outcome. "It sounds like your friend knows how to get himself into trouble." A wry smile. "But it sounds like this is a common occurrence for him as well. And I'm sure he'll be back before you know it." A gentle hand on his shoulder, unable to stop herself, as they slumped. "You are doing everything you can to find your friend, it sounds like, because you care and are worried. That honestly is more than a lot of people have done in the past in similar situations. You are a good friend and he is lucky to have you." As he thanked her, Enif couldn't help a small blush. She'd not been a senshi long, hadn't really done much in the way of doing anything to protect anyone but... it was nice to hear regardless. "If I see your friend I promise to send him home or have him call someone." Another small smile. "I'm sure he will return to you."

Evan sighed but nodded. “Yeah, I guess,” he said; he sounded hopeful but tired. “I guess…I should be getting back to looking for someone who’s seen him, but thank you—a lot. I really appreciate you taking the time to check. If you see him…”
He forced a smile and tried to keep his spirits up. “Yeah, just…please tell him to come home.”
He didn’t seem to mind her shoulder, but made sure his wallet—and the picture—were safely tucked away before he said, “Stay safe. I, uh. I’ll see you around.”
He waved hesitantly, like he wasn’t sure how to say goodbye to a Senshi; he didn’t want to be rude, he just desperately wanted to find his friend—and he hated being outside this late.

Wondering how long he'd been at this, Enif almost asked but thought better of it, merely pulling her hand back and giving him a small nod. He was a real trooper, managing a smile in the face of worry over his friend. She didn't know if she could pull such a thing off herself. "Take care on your way back," she offered, putting more distance between them before a quick glance up to see what was her best path. "You should also think about getting some rest, so you don't wear yourself down~" A quick wave back was given before the senshi jumped up onto a roof. She wanted to stay and make sure he left safely but also didn't want him to get the wrong idea? Or something. With one more look down his way, she booked it for home where her homework was waiting for her.
