Name: Ruttaga
Race: Chimera
Zodiac Sign: Spear
Academy House: Arkham
Gender: Male
Starting Stage: Junior
Body Type Base: Body A, Horns 2
Brief Description of Appearance: Paper Doll. Knee-length coat with Chinese collar; knee-length, flared trousers; gladiator sandals; deep-necked shirt; violet sash; brown horns and nails. I'm pretty okay with colourists taking artistic liberties (I'm not very good with details, so additions are more than welcome)! He is a rough and tumble guy.

Background: Ruttaga is an orphan from the cache and for all his life this has been a huge problem. As soon as he learnt about his heritage, and the great, rich, and varied history of the chimera clans, Ruttaga wanted nothing more than to find his place among them, and go down in legend. Since then, he has dedicated himself to becoming a model chimera, following in the footsteps of his ancestors and fulfilling a few unhealthy stereotypes as well.

Being an orphan of course and growing up in the academy however obstructed Ruttaga's path to glory. Despite numerous attempts to run away to the chimeras' homeland in the Sceptres, his escape plans were always foiled by his teachers and caretakers. Not yet, they said. He was too young, they said. Not like they knew anything. Adults are some of the dumbest people in the world.

Despite his feelings on the matter, Ruttaga was forced to stay in school. He developed a reputation as a trouble-maker among both his peers and the faculty, grudgingly participating in classes and antagonising his classmates. He had few friends due to his aggressive nature. He got used to serving detentions for misbehaving in class, and was occasionally sent to counselling to sort out his socialisation problems. Needless to say, while he hated detention, he loathed counselling (especially in a group). That kind of soft-hearted sentimentality makes his stomach churn.

One good thing did come of it however. In an attempt to reign in his aggression, his guidance counsellors suggested that he look into sports activities. There Ruttaga found companionship. With a love for games, competition, and physical feats, Ruttaga did well in gym and after school physical activities. He befriended like-minded individuals, and most saw that his troublesome attitude dissolved. Not entirely though. In several of his classes, he still made himself a pain in the a** on occasion.

He plays on three teams in the academy, lacrosse, basketball, and wrestling. They are the only reason he manages to keep his grades up at all. They are also the only thing keeping his attitude in check. A few close calls were enough for Ruttaga to wisen up.

Personality Overview:
Ruttaga is a competitive chimera with a fierce independent streak. Strong-willed and even more strongly opinionated, he can come across as abrasive or mean-spirited. Most times this is not deliberate. With a thick skin himself, he underestimates the effect his words and actions might have on others. He is often confused why others might be upset with him, since he never meant any offence. After all, he only said what he felt.

While Ruttaga is generally well-intentioned—his unsavoury attitude can usually be excused by a lack of social awareness—sometimes he cannot be bothered to consider other's feelings, particularly when it comes to competition. He plays to win, and has no problem smack-talking his opponents, or even his own teammates if he feels they are not up to par. He recognises this as "not nice" behaviour, but how else are they going to get any better? He struggles to keep this to a minimum to avoid getting in trouble. A reminder is usually all he needs to back-off. Though he will not cheat, he does play rough and is not above dispiriting or intimidating the other side. Again, it’s not personal. Usually.

Ruttaga takes exception to Daydream species. None have done him wrong personally, but his interest in the history of the Below has painted them as villains. At best, he regards them with suspicion. At worse, he is starting a fight. He particularly dislikes elves, though no Daydream is above hostility. Even the fallen of the Below he mistrusts, and he holds them to high standards unless they prove themselves. Other chimera might bond with them, but Ruttaga has no interest in potential traitors from the Above.

Despite his thug-like attitude, Ruttaga is not quite all brawn and no brains. He is a quick study and could excel in any field if he put his mind to it... therein lies the problem. Ruttaga is not interested in anything outside the lifestyle of a great warrior, and since he is not interested he is not willing to make the effort. Put that in hand with his impulsiveness, and he comes across as downright foolish. Nevertheless while his knowledge tends to be patchy (depending on whether he was paying attention in class or not), it can be very specific.

He does have a keen interest in history, and it is one of the few classes where he will shut up and pay attention. History has played a key role in the formative years of his life, inspiring his dream to join the clans in the Sceptres, and colouring his interaction with Daydreams and other Nightmares.

Strengths
Independent: Ruttaga has got a mind of his own, and nobody can make him do something if he does not want to. He is immune to peer pressure, and stays loyal to himself and his beliefs. He excels at working on his own, though that isn't to say he cannot work in a group if they share a common goal. He simply does better when he is the one calling all the shots. He suffers from no indecisiveness or loneliness.

Fearless: Ruttaga has no problem taking a risk if there's a chance he can come out on top. Where others might hesitate, Ruttaga dives right in. He wastes no time analysing a situation, preferring to think on his feet. You accomplish nothing if you don’t try! While his reckless behaviour can lead him to trouble, more often it serves his interests (where there is no time to think) well. He is nearly impossible to intimidate. If anything goes wrong, he knows he can always bounce back later.

Weaknesses
Impatient: Ruttaga’s attention span is miserable. If something has not piqued his interest within two minutes of his time that he devotes to it, he considers it worthless. He hates to wait, and becomes irrationally irritable if he is forced to do so. Most academy classes are a good example of this. He is always in a hurry for them to end, eyeballing the clock and waiting for that minute hand to freaking move. If he can, he will occupy his time with something else like doodling, or push-ups.

Stubborn: Ruttaga is slow to change. Once he gets an idea into his head, there is no going back. Even when presented with more reasonable alternatives, he refuses to change his stance out of sheer pettiness. It is easier convincing a brick to fly, than to get Rutagga to change his mind. This causes some tension during team discussions, since he likes to make all the important decisions. He often butts heads with team captains.

Likes: Brawls. Power metal. Fire. Spicy foods. Curry. High places. History. Pirates.

Dislikes: Class. Math and English especially. Routine. Status quo. Sour foods. Elitists. Cutesy things.

Hobbies: Lacrosse. Wrestling. Sports in general. Climbing,

Slumped over his desk, bored out of his mind, Ruttaga attempted to balance his pencil on the tip of its eraser. A spiral notebook lay in front of him, open to a page filled with rough hand-writing and crude doodles. Most of them were very unflattering portrayals of one very unfortunate professor, saying some very unkind things about herself. The class suck-up accompanied her in a few drawings.

As usual, Ruttaga had procrastinated on his homework until the last minute. He would have ignored it entirely and just eaten a zero, but faced the threat of getting kicked off the basketball team if his grade dropped any lower. Even so, he dared to tempt fate. The due date was only six hours away and he had yet to write a single word beyond, “Blah, blah, I’m an evil hag,” from the mouth of a boorish cartoon.

At last he had managed it. Ruttaga carefully pulled his hand away. The pencil stood straight up on its end without any assistance. He stared at it for a moment, feeling some small swell of achievement. The feeling quickly passed however, as he remembered the notebook sitting just a few inches from his face. He expelled a burst of air. The pencil tipped and clattered over the desk.

With a sigh and no shortage of resentment, Ruttaga forced himself upright. He picked up his pencil and pulled his notebook towards him. He considered the page and all his drawings. The tip of his pencil found the paper. It scratched one line, the beginning of a letter perhaps, then stopped. A second later he added a circle to the top and two diagonal lines on either side. Stick figures.

Sketching a battle scene, Ruttaga contemplated the possibility of giving up and accepting a bad grade. How bad could it really be? There was always a chance he could make up the work later and keep his position on the team. That still meant that he would inevitably have to do the work though. He groaned and let his forehead hit the desk. Instead of English, why couldn’t they have military tactics as a core class? He would much rather stage a mock battle than write another dumb essay about topics no one really cared about. Especially something like future careers. Adults were so eager to bend the youth into boring clones of themselves.

As he dwelled on that thought and drifted into action-packed daydreams, an idea began to flicker in his mind. If he thought about his future as they (his teachers and counselors) wanted him to, he would probably end up somewhere miserable and boring like accounting. But if he thought about what he wanted… Well, he already knew what he wanted to be, even if everyone else said it was impossible. He had known for as long as he could remember.

Tearing out the page of drawings, Ruttaga’s pencil began to race over the paper. “Some day, in the not so distant future, there will be a mighty warrior, who will be known both Above and Below. He will be the greatest warrior to have ever lived and his name will be Ruttaga…”

Hi Green! I really like Ruttaga and what you have for him here. He sounds like an interesting character and one that will be fun to interact with.

        Basic Info
        - Everything is good here. You have a combo of the paper doll and the written description, so it fills out nicely~

        Background
        - You mention that he is a troublemaker and has tried, in the past, to escape a few times. What sort of punishments were meted out to him for this misbehavior? You listed that his grades are kept by his sports clubs, which is a nice detail! I was wondering if there was anything else at play to keep him in line?

        - Has his penchant for smack talking and being aggressive caused him problems in his clubs? I don't think club officials/captains would be willing to turn a blind eye to that sort of behavior.

        Personality:
        - He looks pretty solid here too! My one question is concerning his dislike of Fallen. Is this because they are said to have come from Above? Chimera and Fallen Freshlings tend to be close because they both have to learn how to fly/it's not a natural skill. Did he ever have a bad run in with a Fallen and that sparked some of the resistance to them? Or is it all from a history book?

        Stengths/Weaknesses:
        - These sound great! I'd like to learn more about each. He's big into sports, so learning more about how they help/detract from his sports skills would be great! Like He's Impatient, but a lot of sports require you to wait for a turn to either play or to get back on the field/court.

        - Impulsiveness - this was something you had mentioned in his personality, but it did not make it into his weaknesses. If you are looking for a balance to this, maybe Honest? He doesn't cheat and is very honest with his words and feelings! That can lead him to trouble, but could be an excellent trait in the future.

        Likes/Dislikes
        - I know you've mentioned them in the quest, but could you add his hobbies as its own section down here? That'd be great!

Once you get those things cleared up, he should be good to roll. Here are some other things to consider, but aren't necessary <3

      • Ruttaga is Independent and works best on his own. How does this help or detract from sports and how he works with his teammates?
      • Ruttaga wants to return to the Sceptres and other Chimera, but what about the Chimera that are in Asphodel? Does he like them? Does he try to strike up friendships with them?
      • Did he learn about being a model chimera from a book? Or from another Chimeran student? Could it be possible that some of his views are skewed then from what might be a Model Chimera?

Quote me when you're done and I'll give it another pass through.

Nah! Since your quest was posted prior to the announcement, you don't need to. If you want to, you're welcome to, tho! But yours reads well without it

I think I've covered everything! Changes are beige and in bold.

As for "impulsiveness" as a trait, I decided against it as it is more of a the end result of his "fearless" and "impatient" trait interacting with each other. There was a lot of overlap and ultimately it read too similarly to both of them to be on it's own!
