She had made it to Gently’s house through the snowstorm and knocked on the door a few times, before finally just twisting the knob, inserting the key and letting herself into the warm little house, laughing as she shut the door quickly behind her, shaking the snow off of one of her boots. “Hey, Gently! It’s me! I came thorugh this crazy snowstorm to bring my most favorite person in the whole wide world some cookies!”
And to talk about something…but honestly, the cookies were the best part. Karone was in a very good mood after spending some time in that bakery, and she hoped that Gently would as well. There was nothing like cookies to erase any worries of traitors and youma dragons and claims that the woman she loved was only using her. Clearly.
Before moving deeper into the house, Karone removed her boots, scarf, coat and hat and left them by the door. She moved into the living room clad in her thick woolen socks and looked around for the other woman, the bag of cookies still clutched in her hands. “Where are you, goober? I’m here visiting you, I had expected a bit of a better welcome.” Her tone was light and teasing…because clearly she wasn’t worried at all.
Nope.

Gently heard the door and looked up, smiling at her snow covered minion and shaking her head.
"And they call me crazy!" She laughed, coming into the living room from the hallway and crossing to Karone to greet her with an honest warmth. She hugged Karone, though she immediately got the feeling that something was... off. More off than usual, for them, at least. There was an acceptable weirdness to their relationship, and then there was... something else.
"What's wrong? You look... I don't know. You look like there's something wrong."
She couldn't put her finger on it, but she knew Karone well enough now to recognize her quirks and any shift in her usual demeanor. Taking the cookies, she led them into the kitchen to get a plate, and put some tea on. Her English roots remained, and tea was a mainstay in her household. It went very well with cookies, and with cold weather: both of which they had.
At home, Gently was a lot different than when she was powered up. Not entirely, but much closer to a 'normal' woman than she could be when trying to stab people at all times. There was always a dangerous air around her now, of course, and darkness... but Karone brought out a softer, sweeter side in her that she had long ago thought lost. It made her want to be... just a girl falling for another girl. What was wrong with that?

“I just missed you!” She had started shivering just a little, the warmth of the house and the hug was making her really focus on just how cold she really was. When Gently asked what was wrong, she just laughed, trying to brush it off. “I can’t feel my nose…or my fingers…well, just about everything that isn’t large and attached to all of my body is very cold. I spent almost an hour in a bakery and I got warm, but damn is it ever cold outside.”
Karone sat down at the kitchen table and grabbed one of the cookies, nibbling on it and sighing. “These were warm when I left the bakery. The guy baked them just for you…not that I haven’t already eaten almost a dozen of them…They were so good when they were warm, but I guess it’s stupid to think anything would stay warm in this weather.”
She watched the woman and the smallest of smiles played across her face and she gave the softest of sighs. “Hey, do you know someone named Dennis? Or uh. Merlinite. Someone called him Merlinite too. He claimed to have known you.”
It was just better to get it out in the open, she supposed so…there it was. Out in the open. And there went another cookie. Into her mouth.

Gently left the kettle to boil and moved to find Karone a warm throw blanket to wrap herself up in while she recovered from her stint in the cold. She returned with it in short order, draping the small blanket over her shoulders and then crossing to the kettle as it started to whistle. She had great timing with it, but was rather used to how long it took for her tea to reach perfection.
She heard the question and almost over filled her tea cup, looking back at Karone in surprise as she settled the kettle down, lest it suffer a spike of rage. She rather liked that kettle, as it was one of the few things she actually owned that came from her homeland.
"Merlinite is a traitor. You shouldn't be talking to him. What were you doing, talking to him?" She was very tense while she spoke, trying not to leap to the worst possible conclusion immediately. Of course, in her mind she already saw it. Karone leaving her, betraying her, just like everyone else. She would lose her beautiful little minion, just like she had lost Merlinite.
"What did he say to you?"

Karone blinked, frowning slightly at the sudden change in Gently’s mood. It felt like the wonderful warmth of the house suddenly was as icy as the winter storm outside of it. “Well, I was going after this witch b***h senshi, hoping to get another starseed for my collection, and he comes out of nowhere and tackles me to the ground, defending her and I was completely thrown for a loop…I mean.”
She sighed, pulling the blanket closer. “I honestly…hadn’t realized there were traitors. I met this sparkly girl, Teide or something. And she told me she had been a part of the Negaverse, and she disgusts me. And that Merlinite, he should not be acting the way he is! I don’t understand. He says he’s with the white moon, yet he feels like all of us. It’s awful. He’s awful, Gently. And that stupid senshi he was protecting…well. I’ll get her damn starseed one day. She was a cute thing, she looked like she was dressed for Halloween, with a witch hat and everything. I wanted to watch her die…I nabbed the starseed from a…a Cosmos page too! That was fun. She didn’t even know what was coming, I loved it.”
Everything tumbled out so fast and after she finished talking, Karone felt rather exhausted. “People are so annoying. Sometimes I really just wish I could just spend the rest of forever with you. To hell with them.”

"He wanted to be on the White Moon, and I made sure that didn't happen," Gently said, returning to pouring the tea and serving her a cup before sitting down near her. She did her best to keep her calm, the cup clattering a bit as she held on to it.
She couldn't still her shaking, as anger coursed through her. She was only angry because those memories were so painful, and she did not know how to deal with them. She never had.
"Karone," she said, looking at the other woman with a pained, soft expression. "I've never told anyone this... I don't.... I don't open up to people any more. I've been betrayed so many times, by people I loved, people I thought I could trust. Merlinite... I thought I could love him. I wanted to, so badly. But then he... he said he wanted to be a knight. He asked me to join him. All I knew was I wanted him to stay with me, and I... I grabbed his starseed and I just started putting Chaos into it. Like that would... that was what he needed. He turned from Captain to General, but I couldn't... I couldn't control it. It went too far, and he turned into that monster. I pretended from that moment on that it was what I wanted to do. I hated him. But I... I was scared."
Painite was never scared, or so she liked to pretend, but she supposed she had just not had anyone she could trust with that information for so long even she started to believe it. It wasn't true, not by a long shot.
Gently took a slow breath, taking her turn for all her words and thoughts to fall out in a rush.
"I love you." She was staring at her cup when she said it, "and I don't want to lose you. Please don't leave me, or make me do... do anything like that, ever again."

Karone was quiet, listening to Gently talk with a rather blank expression on her face, but when she mentioned having been scared, the expression softened, and by the end of it all, she had taken the other woman’s hand and given it a squeeze. “Gently…I love you, and I will never leave you…I’m much happier killing knights, and I surely don’t want to be one…honestly.”
This was the woman she loved. Merlinite was wrong, she had known that Merlinite was wrong. Maybe he was just jealous that Painite loved her more…because she just said she did. She said she loved her and that was wonderful. It felt as though her heart was melting and she liked the feeling very much.
“He was a fool. A fool to want to give you up. A fool to think you’d ever want to desert the Negaverse…this is who you are. Who we are. I’m not a traitor, I am happy where I am, and nothing will change that, Gently. I love you more than I can say, and I will never leave you…I’d be lost without you…” She drew the hand she was holding up to her lips and kissed it gently. “I’m yours forever. I swear.”

Gently watched Karone and listened, nodding slowly and wanting very much to believe. Something in her made it very difficult, all the pain and hurt from being left behind and forgotten so many times before. She had already convinced herself that she was not worth any kind of real affection from anyone.
Even though it was what she really, truly wanted.
Still, she felt comforted by Karone's words and nodded her head, scooting her chair closer around the table so she could lean in and steal a proper kiss, instead of just the gentle hand kiss Karone had given her.
After a moment, she took a breath and offered the other woman a smile.
"I know... I know you are loyal. You're my little minion, right? But you're more than that. I won't let anyone take you from me, or hurt you. I'm going to make sure people like Merlinite understand that." She growled, thinking of all the different things she could do to the half dragon to make him pay. She knew everyone he cared about, even if she did not know where he was staying or how he kept himself hidden from her.
Drawing him out would be easy enough. It seemed he answered the call of a certain witch themed senshi.

Karone’s face turned pink with the kiss and a giggle escaped her mouth. “I think that’s a very good idea, Gently. If you see the little senshi…get me her starseed, won’t you? I have a lovely necklace to hang it on…”
She longed to show the woman her collection of stolen items…but she was sure that she would show her when she had it all completed. When her jewelry additions were complete, she would show Painite and Painite would be ever so proud, she was quite sure of that.
“Anyway, let’s not think of those assholes…let’s just think of you and me. I’m still kind of cold, and the idea of snuggling with you on the couch…under a blanket with this cup of tea, sounds like my kind of thing to do…so…do you want to do it?”
Her face heated up a moment later and she laughed, shaking her head and feeling quite like a teenager…and she liked that feeling. Though she was sure there would be other feelings she liked just as much if not more.
