General debriefing: There's rumours going around that something big is going down at a costume party in Nevada. It's not a black tie affair by any means; most people will be attending in outfits ranging from store bought to custom-made; which will make it easy for any hunters to slip in undercover.

While the whole thing is simply an excuse to get together to celebrate the spirit of All Hallow's Eve, something is rotten in the state of Denmark. There's too much money and bluster going on to not be covering something up, and the tips we've been given only confirm more of the same.

Find out what they're doing, and stop the deal from going down, by any means necessary-- and remember: don't get caught.

* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, and at least one of them must be an Intermediate Trainee.)

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the main portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 13H.

This mission requires a disguise! Pick out a costume for your hunter, with a way to cover at least half their face! (Makeup and wigs are acceptable!) You can assume the quartermaster has some to borrow, within reason, or they can acquire their own.

Everyone on this mission will have a radio earpiece, super-spy like, so even if you get separated, you'll be able to talk to each other.

Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a BOSS ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics.

1- 20: The ballroom is packed to the brim, and noisy to boot. You manage to listen in to a series of conversations that seem suspicious between two shady figures in a corner. But they catch sight of you, though, and scatter into the crowd, talking into their wrists. Stay alert.

21 - 30: You decide to check out the basement, which takes a bit of lock picking (or breaking). Worry not about security: it looks like someone else has already taken care of that, a glowing red device attached to it, probably feeding it an empty loop. A level down, you find a bunch of crates, filled with familiar runics tinged in red. But you hear someone coming down the hall-- better get back to the party.

31 - 40: Something brushes you as the hors d'oeuvre go by, and it takes a few minutes to realize that a bug has been planted on you. It stays on you until your next roll. After that, you crush it, but... if you said anything, assume it's been compromised. Eyes seem to focus on the back of your neck, but it's impossible to find the source.

41 - 60: It looks like action is about to get started. People start filtering towards the doors, all of them discreet, but you are on the lookout, after all. But tailing one leads you nowhere; a diversionary tactic. Better get back to the hall and try again.

61 - 80: Someone mistakes you for a server, and you get hustled back into the kitchen and loaded up with a plate of food or drinks, and then shoved right back out of the kitchens. To not blow your cover, you need to, well. Serve. Roll 1d10 and get a 7 or above to offload them all. It wasn't for naught, though: you managed to confirm there's a huge deal going down at the stroke of midnight, down in the basement. You better be there, or be square. Or, you know. Fail your mission.

81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- It's time. You've managed to tail someone to the levels far below the party, enough that the din has dulled to a low roar. You can hear yourself think, but you can also hear low murmurings as you approach the site of the deal you've been looking for all night.

It's not creatures of FEAR, you find, but several men and women. And they are armed to the teeth with weapons that glow blood red. The other half of the bargaining party decide that discretion is the better part of valor, and slip out the door, taking only as many goods as they can carry.

The armed figures block off every exit, and every camera has been shorted. There's no one that can hear you scream, and that's fine. You are a hunter, and now, it's time to prove your worth.

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a number of humans that have a collective 100 HP. They use red runic weapons, but have no shield. It's numbers they have on their side, and in great excess.

Every time you attack the boss (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

After Boss defeat:
Upon the death of the final enemy-- the rest having fled-- you realize they've activated a self destruct button on the crates of supplies they were trying to sell. They'd rather they be destroyed than return to Deus' hands, especially in the wake of the failures of the Delta Event.

The weapons have crumbled to dust in their crates-- but there's still some laying around by the dead bodies. Better take some back to the island.

(Note: You cannot keep these. They will be confiscated upon arrival.)

Roll 1d4 to determine what is dropped
    1. Red runic weighted chains, several links loose.
    2. Red runic daggers, one of them cracked.
    3. A box of red runic bandages, half empty.
    4. A red runic trap gun, with both the trigger and barrel busted.

* 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Cassandra had pursued a few records from similar missions to the one she had agreed to help Dawson on, and was not unsure of whether or not she should have agreed to helping the man. Cassie's feet needed wetting, she knew, but this just sounded dangerous.

You couldn't be 007 without danger, though. Tendaji was silent on the matter, just applying the heavy pressure to her thoughts that he always did. A pressure that would only relent if she actually did something that the Popobawa didn't see as weak or sniveling.

Cassie stood by one of the portals, earpiece already in and turned on, holding a portion of her costume in clasped hands. She'd considered breaking out her Spider-Gwen costume, but the files Cassie had read made the event they were to attend out to be an affair that required a little more class. A dark robe was thrown over her shoulders, covering a simpler black dress. The mask clutched in Cassie's hands was nothing more than a domino mask made of gold fabric, with a black mesh veil sewn into the bottom to hide her face. Alternate feet tapped as she waited for Dawson and their other team member to arrive, eyes still never looking to her right hand.

Dawson hadn't gone on an external mission in a long time. His concerns had been with the island for so long: from helping clear out the life labs rubble to helping clear out the snow, he knew how to keep himself busy. His own chapel project had been delayed as well thanks to the weather. It had taken an entire day to clear out the snow, dry out the building, and then salt the immediate area, and even then the icy conditions had put a hamper on the hunter's efforts. He was thus reluctant to leave the island lest it put even more of a delay on his project, but duty came first. And at least he had friends tagging along.

Luckily, he had a suit already thanks to the wedding. A mask, however, he had to procure from the quartermaster. Dawson arrived at the lighthouse with a half mask themed after a lion, a small array of feathers protruding from it like a mane. Frankly, they tickled his ears a little too much when he tried it on, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

He was tucking his shirt in once more as he climbed the steps, which was done even more hastily when he realized Cassie was there. "Lookin' good, girl!" Dawson greeted her with a smile. "Party fer a first mission, how cool s'that?"

"This is terrible," Horace said, entering the portal room. A skull mask covered about two thirds of his face and his eyes gleamed redly under it, thanks to contacts. He had a suit, unfortunately, and looked uncomfortable, shrugging his shoulders. The shirt and vest underneath were sleeveless, but he couldn't just go with a sleeveless suit jacket. It just wasn't done and Horace thought it was awful. confining. White gloved hands reached up to fiddle with his hair, tied neatly to the side with leather cord. His earpiece was hidden conveniently by his hair.

"Dawson, what have you gotten me into?" Then, he noticed Cassie. "Yo. I'm Horace, death division."

Cassie flashed Dawson a brief smile, dipping her head. "Ah, thanks Dawson." She never really thought she looked all that spectacular, even in costume - but it was always nice to hear. She gave a more firm nod at the 'coolness' of her first mission, clutching her mask just a little tighter.

Everything would be fine, Cassandra. Dawson knows what he's doing, just follow his lead-

"Cassie, also Death." The girl dipped her head at the new man, Horace. "So, uh, should we get going?"

"A party! Fer Mardi Gras, even," he told Horace enthusiastically as he wrestled him into a one-armed hug. "You gonna make sure the newbie here learns how t'be sneaky while I watch yer asses. Not literally," he added to Cassie, in case there was any confusion. "Ya'll make sure you get yer runics now."

For his part, he'd only be carrying a dagger, albeit one that little a little more runiced than the basic. Despite his small talk with the portal tech, he was only allowed to carry one standard out into the field. Good thing he was carrying one of his stones just in case.

Once everyone was ready to head out, Dawson took the lead and stepped through.

A wall of noise awaited them on the other side. Mardi Gras was a point of raucous celebration regardless, but Vegas sure knew how to make a big bang. Green, purple, and gold dominated the crowd gathered there that day, and some people had chosen to go with a jester outfit that gave Dawson chills. It didn't help knowing that something was about to happen here, if not already happening. Amidst the chatter were secluded pairs and small gatherings, turned heads and secret murmurs, currents that took people away in a flash--or had that simply been part of the dance taking place on the floor below?

The music playing was certainly loud enough. Even when right by each other, Dawson almost felt a need to shout. "Hoo-wee! S'gonna be easy t'get lost here," he told them, leaning in to try and mitigate that need. "Keep yer wits aboutcha n'," he tapped the ear piece hidden by his shaggy hair, "remember t'keep the others updated on anythin' e'en remotely suspicious."

Horace grumbled as Dawson strong armed him, but it was a good-natured grumble. "Yeah, don't worry Cassie, Dawson doesn't stare at any a** but mine." And then quickly stepped away from Dawson in case there was a returning whack.

Once inside the party, his demeanor changed, however, eyes quickly scanning the rooms for secluded corners and balconies that might afford a good over view of the place. A serving man jostled him. "Got it, Daddy Dawson. Bit friendly in here, though. I'm gonna head tot he right. Let's set up a canvas."

Vegas, Cassie instantly decided, was a city she would never willingly go back to again. Too many people, far too loud, and everyone was drunk - it was like the worst convention the girl had been to, but exponentially worse. While she grabbed a passing glass of champagne to appear as a partaking member of the party, Cassie never let the stuff touch her lips. Maybe once she turned 21 she would drink, but her nerves needed to stay sharp for this.

"I doubt Dawson would check out my butt." Cassie whispered over the earpiece, and only caught the waiter jostling Horace because she'd been giving the other Death a nonplussed look. Dawson wasn't disrespectful and rude like that. He was a Lawful Good, almost to a fault; like Superman, but not useless. "Uhm, Horace, I think we should follow that guy who just bumped into you..."

Cassie started to tail the other man through the heated throng of masked faces and grinding, costumed bodies, careful to keep eyes on their mark the entire time. "Waiters are trained to avoid making physical contact with patrons and guests unless they seem open to it. Or, erm, that's how we did it at all the diners I worked at." Cassie muttered, obviously very nervous. Suddenly the champagne seemed enticing, but it was set on a table before temptation manifested into reality.

After a while of tailing, the din of the party was far away and Cassie could finally hear her own thoughts again, along with the growing pressure Tendaji pressed on her mind, as if telling her to stop fussing and act like a competent person. She gulped and steeled herself, discreetly summoning the weapon into hands clasped behind her back. The thought of eventually having to fight made her thankful for the foresight to not wear heels.

Cassie's mark made a sharp right, and when the trainee followed she was met with many more masked faces, most carrying weapons that were, incidentally, pointed right at her. She saw other bodies fleeing the scene, but her glassy doe eyes were currently focused on the barrel of a 10mm not but 5 feet from her face.

"What a**?" Dawson snorted.

Letting the daddy comment slip for now (Horace'd get a whupping for that later), he chose to keep at a distance but follow Cassie. The man wasn't built for stealth, but he knew how to chat up strangers--at the very least he could try to draw some attention away from his friends, maybe get a hint as to what was going on tonight. He didn't like this mystery factor, as much as it was kind of thrilling to pretend to be a spy; there was only so much you could prep for against the unknown. He took a sip of the champagne just to calm himself as well as to help his dry mouth.

"Any luck, Horace?" he whispered, afraid of being overheard. "Cas, don' get too far ahead now..."

Hoping he took the right turn, Dawson came across the same throng she did and immediately dropped his drink, yanking the trainee by her arm as the gun fired. Simultaneously, his shield was summoned and brought up before them, the bullet ricocheting off it harmlessly.

Red runics? What...?

"It's ********> he hissed. "O group, I think!"

"My a** is plush, okay. And I'm on it." He'd begun to follow the waiter at a distance, making casual small talk to the party-goers. It was easier to blend in by, well, acting like he was at a party. Interestingly enough, he could see Cassie headed in a similar direction. He frowned, keeping an eye out for Dawson as well though, luckily, the man was hard to miss. Distracted, he swiped a hand down the side of his suit jacket, detaching something small and - he cursed.

He'd been bugged. Horace took off in a sprint, shedding his suit jacket he went. "I was bugged, they knew we were coming!" Horace summoned Jannisari and skidded around the corner. Without thinking, he ducked around Dawson and slammed into the person who'd fired, knocking them off balance. A shot rang out, the bullet grazing his shoulder painfully.

Cassie shrieked, not sure if more from the reasonable fear of having a gun shot at her or the sudden force of protection and resolution acting upon her that was Dawson, and wanted sorely to go home, back to Vader, away from Deus and away from having bullets fired at her.

The sim rooms were nothing, she realized at that moment, Tendaji's voice pounding in frontal lobe. Deathsweeper hadn't prepared her much at all, not for a real fight. But the Popobawa persisted, his pressure quelling the panicked thoughts that raced in her mind like unleashed dogs. She had a shield, both in Dawson and in the form of her Fear bubble. She, too, had a weapon capable of causing a lot of damage. Deathsweeper was meant for reaction times and getting used to pain.

Cassie stepped out from under Dawson's protection, launching the blunt end of her roped weapon at the man who'd just attempted to shoot her, nailing him in the stomach. Tendaji seemed pleased.

"Bugged? Shyit."

It was starting to dawn on him that these people using the red runics, they...They didn't seem to have a buffer like hunters did. The man that had tried to shoot Cassie--when she and Horace knocked him down, when the bladed ends of their weapons cut through, they really cut through. He saw blood begin to spill.

It wasn't the first time Dawson had seen as much, but that didn't mean he was numb to it. The man faltered and paid for it as more of the Ouroboros people swarmed in on them.

"Y'all ******** right off!" he yelled as he tried to beat them back, but there were too many at once. "Jis' leave yer s**t n' go!"

He swore he heard someone's sardonic laugh in the throng.

There was an unfamiliar tackiness to his knuckles, something slick that slid underneath Jannisari's bone and clung wetly to his skin. It wasn't the same as a fear creature's blood, but that's what it was: blood. Horace crucnhed his way forward, swinging out into the crowd. His right hand crackled a man across the jaw even as the blade on his left forearm sliced neatly into a woman's side. They were only human, for all their runics. In the end, it didn't matter. It was about survival.

Dawson's attempt at bravado might have been amusing if he had been less focused on cutting through the crowd. As it was, once Horace had seen Dawson protecting Cassie as she launched attacks from over his shield... Horace had struck out alone. He'd gotten used to working alone and he wasn't good at defending anyway. The only thing he could properly do was keep swinging until he went down.

Despite Dawson's shielding with both weapon and body, warm, tacky red blood sprayed over Cassie as a result of both she and Horace attacking the men and women. There were no shields over them - they were just humans. Squishy humans that continued falling with their blows. More blood splattered, getting in her eye, on her lips.

I want to go home, she thought as a blade swept passed Dawson's shield, slicing at Cassandra's arms even as she threw Tendaji's hook behind the attacker, pulling it back to trip him and slice with the blade. I don't want to kill.

"Please, just cease and desist!" She cried through clenched teeth, drawing the rope on her weapon taut, ready to parry another attacker.

"********'..." He swung a right hook just to keep someone back while his shield was preoccupied with another enemy at the front. Dawson cursed as he yanked his damn mask off and chucked it at one of them; thing was just getting in the way now. Hell, his suit wasn't the most maneuverable piece of clothing either.

"Horace, git back here!" he yelled as he saw his friend strike out alone. "You want me starin' atcha a**, I need it in one piece!" It wasn't so much doubt about his friend's abilities than it was doubts about his own. The last thing Dawson wanted was the small crowd separating them.

Casting a glance back, he asked Cassie, "Ferget it, honey, we ain' gonna reason with 'em now. Just stay close, aight?"

"I'm good, Daws, Just take care of her!" Horace had a heal, could probably be fine - if it worked. He needed Dawson to make sure Cassie stayed okay. If he moved away from them, he might be able to drag some of the crowd off. As he moved, he clipped a man in the shoulder, hearing a crunch of bone and a wail as the man fell. It made him feel a little sick - this was different from fear creatures. But the adrenaline running through his blood coiled and twisted just like Jannisari in his mind.

They liked it.
