The night had never been a very scary thing for Margaret Butler. Granted, nighttime out in the countryside was significantly different than an evening in the city, but her feelings towards the dark and shadows that lurked around every corner never really changed. Much. There was one tiny little exception. While Mags may not have been the smartest girl in school...at home...well, anywhere, her imagination could be just as vivid as the next person's. So after a whopper of a ghost story or a good 'ol fashioned monster movie, her senses were enlightened to the possibility of there being things that go bump in the night, potentially in any sewer drain, alleyway or abandoned building. So, in retrospect, taking a break from patrolling had been a fun thought, but dipping into the movie theater for an afternoon-to-late-night marathon of monster movies.... probably not the brightest thing Sailor Duhr could have done for herself. As the exit doors opened and the flood of moviegoers parted ways, the overly dressed girl with blonde ringlets bouncing with every step made her way down the sidewalk, blue eyes wide and aware of the possibility that monsters could be lurking anywhere. It didn't help matters to know that monsters, at least in the magical girl crime-fighting world, did tend to exist.

Merlinite rarely went out beyond the library area on his own, these days, if only because it was usually easier to explain himself when he had a Royal Knight with him. People tended to believe the fourth stage White Moon guy over the twisted, half youma monster guy when told Merlinite was actually a pretty okay dude. Guy.
Still, he had some interesting experiences under his belt so far, and the White Moon were actually not so bad about talking first and attacking only if he did something stupid or failed to make it clear that he was not as evil as his horns and tail would suggest. Not to mention the horrible aura being partially youma and partially a General of the Negaverse gave him.
He really did not blame them for not immediately believing him, and was thankful for a lot of the chances he had been given so far to just make friends instead of enemies.
Tonight, though, he chanced wandering out to do some patrolling on his own. He stuck to the shadows, crawling on buildings and over rooftops with very little problem, now that he had mastered his weird mutations. His wing and tail worked well for balance, and his claws were excellent for clinging to almost any surface. Clinging over the front display of the local movie theater, Merlinite spotted a White Moon senshi walking alone from the place. Had she been... watching a movie?
Blinking, doubting she had missed his aura, he scurried after her, using all four legs to move rather like a lizard. Or, as he preferred, a dragon. He leapt over her head, casting a strange shadow on the street below as he moved over her to land on a building on the other side, following her as best he could.

She'd credited the feeling to being overly paranoid. The aura had been there, but so had the shadows out of the corner of her eyes. Monsters, fabricated by her mind, following and lurking around the darkness covering Destiny City. She really shouldn't have stayed for Cloverfield. Eyes fell to study the ground beneath her feet, determined to make it home before she lost her calm and cool. There wasn't any justification to send tornadoes left and right, based on what shadows spooked and startled her. Like that one that just passed overhead. The one that looked like a giant monster. Nope. Nope. Nope. She felt the chill in her spine intensify. This shadow was a really good mental concoction. Duhr could almost see the outline of wings, a tail, a... dragon? Her head shot up, eyes falling on the shadow's owner. The outline was cast in darkness, but his silhouette was there. And it was definitely a monster. "I-If yer gonna say boo, should Ah act scared to make ya feel better?"

Merlinite watched her, noting her tense stance. Well, she had clearly noticed she was being followed by a... something or other. He swished his tail behind him thoughtfully, wondering how to approach without scaring her too badly.
Of course, there was really no chance of him successfully not scaring her.
"I think you're already scared, and don't have to act much," he said evenly, stepping away from the buildings and the shadows they cast. He looked at her as he stepped into enough light to be seen properly. One wing, two clawed hands and one clawed foot, a tail. Horns. Fangs. He stood on two legs and had a human form, but he was most certainly a scaled, Chaos-tainted monster.
He grinned at her, some of his old habits hard to drop. So what was the harm in playing with her just a little bit? He wasn't going to hurt her!
"But if you want, I can say something scary."

Fists balled up at her sides, pushing down into the giant hoop skirt circling her waist. The fabric stuck to her skin, her palms sweating. She knew she was nervous - and why shouldn't she be? Monsters, she could deal with. Scary, maybe, but she'd taken care of enough youma over the years to know how to contend with monsters. But this monster, this monster spoke. He made sense. He taunted her, even. He wasn't entirely dragon, not entirely man. Some sort of twisted hybrid, but enough to still remain intimidating. And clearly, he seemed to know he was having some sort of effect on her. Which was more than frustrating, honestly. Another push against her skirt and she scowled. "Do whatever ya want, Ah wanna give ya a chance before Ah dust ya." As if to emphasize her point, her hands rose - clasping together and forming the shape of a finger-gun.

Oh.This one needed to be taught a lesson. He knew his aura was clear enough to tell her that she might want to be careful around him, but she was still picking fights with someone she could easily be murdered by. He had claws and teeth, for Pete's sake! That kind of attitude would easily get her killed.
And even if she thought he was a monster, and was threatening him like he was just a youma, he had no real ill will toward her. She could not understand what he was without hearing his story, after all, so she was technically just doing her job. In an incredibly dangerous way.
Maybe he could help her be a bit more careful in the future...
"You're going to dust me, huh? Can you even catch me? I dare you to hit me, with the best you got. Let's see you dust me."
Impromptu training that only one side of the fight knew about? That was one way he could help the white moon, he supposed. He swished his tail behind him, like an eager cat watching it's prey, eager for the game ahead. He poised himself as if expecting a fight, holding up his claws despite lacking the will to really use them. With a growl, as vicious as he could make himself sound, he charged at her.

The sweat was moving from her palms to her forehead. This wasn't like anything she had ever fought before. His aura did indeed throw vibes out that she had never felt, strong and fierce as opposed to weakened pulses - then again, she'd also never seen anything but minor monsters and Lieutenants, until tonight. Claws. There were claws and fangs. This wasn't like shooting at angry 'coons or pests out on the farm - this was big and it was scary and it was coming straight for her. She didn't have time to think, there was only time to react. Her finger-gun cocked back, starting the swirl of wind at her feet. The cyclone only had seconds to form, making it a terribly short one to boot, before Duhr used both hands to push it forward. This was beginning to look more like a defensive attack than an offensive one and that fact alone was scaring Margaret Butler to death. Mostly because one, she didn't think she could fist-fight her way out of a battle with a dragonman and two, she couldn't really rely on her twister to aim straight. Yeah, maybe tucking her tail between her legs and running would be the best option, at this point. Lithiasaur Duhr thinks she can take on the world. And then falls on her face when she tries. Sorry, Merlin. I'm just glad her first run-in with a General was with one that won't promptly slaughter her. bless u, dragonman.

Merlinite darted to the side, using his speed as a youma to his advantage to get out of the way of her attempt to attack him and duck around her, whipping his tail behind him as he passed her. He smacked her right on the butt with his tail, with a bit of force behind it to make sure it hurt without being too damaging.
Maybe a bruise, but she had earned it.
"You've got guts, I'll give you that. It's a shame, the way you're going, you're going to be seeing them spilled all over the floor."
He snarled and leapt at her again, this time tackling her to the ground and sitting on her, pinning her down and taking a breath. He felt like he had made a pretty good point so far, looking down at her and swinging his tail behind him almost playfully.
"Except you're lucky I'm a good guy, and not the monster you think. If I let you up, are you going to try attacking me again?"

She hadn't been hit that hard in the backside since Henry the mule had that Really Bad Day back when she was helpin' shoe the horses. Before the senshi could even react to the butt-toucher's smack, she was on the ground, the air in her lungs pushed out of her with the sudden smackdown. His words took time to process, especially considering the pounding in her chest took precedence, the younger girl attempting to catch her breath and slow her heart rate before anything else. The adrenaline was coursing through her, the instinct of fight or flight still nagging persistently in the back of her mind. "Right...because ya feel like a friendly guy." She wiggled once, testing his hold. Firm and strong, unfortunately. "Ah'm sure that vibe comin' off ya isn't bad mojo-jojo, right?" Sure, his mug wasn't the prettiest one on the block, but she was more concerned about his aura, above anything else. Last time she'd felt this sort of bad vibe, she'd run across her first corrupted sailor scout. He too had given the impression that he was good folk. And boy, had she been wrong about that one. "Ah may not be the brightest crayon in the box, mister, but Ah ain't the dullest either." Pausing, she eyed him suspiciously. It was true, he hadn't sliced her and made a Duhrsandwich out of her yet, so what exactly was he waiting for? Could he possibly be telling the truth? "If yer tryin' to trick me, Ah ain't worth nothin' to nobody." Lithiasaur I just really wanted to use the term butt-toucher in a sentence, I'm sorry

Ghouliboo I feel like it was a fair decision. "No, I'm technically evil. I mean. Chaos, for whatever that's worth. Definitely got a lot of that in me. But no, I'm not a bad guy. I'm just a guy that wanted to be a knight, but made a mistake and stuck my neck out with a General I shouldn't have. See where biting off more than you can chew can go really, really wrong?"
He moved off of her to let her get back to her feet, crouching like a gargoyle was he watched her. It was more comfortable than standing upright on two legs, these days, with the way his bones had grown and wanted to point. He folded his wing down against his body, curling his tail around his feet.
"Why would I try to trick you? That would be a massive waste of time, considering I could just... you know... eat you, or whatever it is you think I'm supposed to do. Look, kid, I'm just here trying to help you out. You can't go fighting something way outside your pay grade: you're just a scout! I'm a general! Are you crazy? Or just trying to get yourself killed?"
He shook his head and folded his arms over his chest, sitting up a bit as he crouched, watching her intently. The skeptical look on his face eased a bit, as he remembered how eager and hot headed he used to be, when he was just starting out and looking to prove himself.

Her face had been flushed from the abrupt landing, but it grew even redder as this stranger, this Chaos-But-Not-Evil-Yet-Technically-Evil-Dragon fella berated her, like a parent chiding a delinquent child. She opened her mouth to fuss, but promptly closed her slack-jawed expression when the reality hit her. Duhr didn't have an argument to throw back at him. He was right, as much as it drove her crazy down to her very core, he was right. She was out of her league in this, she was picking fights with beings way out of her power scope...but what other option did she have? She wasn't smart or clever like the other senshi - she had to use her fists instead of her brain, to get her out of situations. But when that didn't work...what was she? Worthless. She was worthless. "Ah'm not crazy." came her indignant response, finally. She glowered. "Ah saw a dragon, Ah don't have that many options than to fight it." While Duhr wasn't 110% sure this fella was entirely not evil, she was sure he wasn't like any other youma she'd ever met. "Don't exactly run into many nice evil things, ya'know."

"Then maybe you should make more friends, eh? Then at least, if you do find an evil dragon, you won't get yourself killed by trying to fight it alone. Especially so far out of your pay grade."
His expression softened, though, and he felt a little guilty for making her look so upset. He could tell that something he said hit home, and it resonated in him with a painful familiarity. There was a time, after all, when someone saying this kind of stuff to him would have been infuriating and stressful.
And he would have done anything to prove them wrong, even if it was stupid to try.
"My name is Merlinite. I go by Dennis, mostly, now. I work with Camelot, and I... you know. Try and help and train senshi. So I really don't mean you any harm I just... want to help. As much as I can. Look, I'm sorry if I hurt you or anything, I just think some things you have to learn the hard way. But better with me than something that would really eat you, right?"
He offered her his hand, or rather his claw, as a sign of peace, giving her a derpy, fangy smile in an effort to look harmless.

The smile threw her off, the tall senshi giving the dragon a quizzical look before eventually - hesitantly - offering her hand back to him. His claw looked as though it belonged to a dragon - who knew, mythical creatures lurked the city just as much as senshi and evil villains did! It only made sense, she guessed. "Duhr." Her brain was in overdrive, trying to comprehend what he was explaining to her. She didn't know Camelot - but even for Duhr it wasn't hard to connect the dots. Camelot was the place where all the knights were... knights and dragons... well, she'd never officially or formally ever met a real knight, but Dorado had explained that they'd existed and, well, her reasoning made as much sense as anything else did! "I'm Sailor Duhr. Folks call me... well. Duhr." Merlinite sure sounded mythical - when the dragon amended his comment by offering another, far more plain option, the girl couldn't help but giggle. A big scary monster, going by the name Dennis? Well, if that didn't humanize him, she didn't know what would! "Trainin' huh." The thought stuck in her head, an idea slowly churning around and developing. "Like... ya could train me to fight dragons and bigger monsters? Ya ain't pullin' my leg?"

"Duhr," Merlinite repeated, staring at her for a moment to see if that was some kind of joke. When it was clear that she was not messing with him to try and get him to say something dumb, he nodded his head and grinned, baring his fangs a bit in the process. It was not really a menacing look, as he was a friendly looking beast when he wanted to be.
And most of the time, that was the goal. He did not really like playing the monster he was made to look like by force, and opted instead to play nice as much as he could.
"Well, yeah, I can do that. I'm pretty tough, and these scales are good for taking hits. But I'm pretty good at giving them, too. If you run into a real youma or baddie, you are going to want to know how to fight it, right? What better practice than with a real life Nega."
He was almost proud of the role he had made for himself, though it was essentially that of a glorified punching bag. But hey, if it helped someone every now and then, he was game.
