It had taken the Senshi of Vengeance a few days to come to terms with things. She still was not particularly pleased with the way they had been summoned, nor did she like the idea of using the crystals to drain energy in a manner similar to the way their enemies did. During the meeting she had tried to question the origin of the crystals, whether or not they were the same as those used by the Negaverse, but the question had been passed by (due to the strangers exhaustion and how overwhelmed he had seemed, no doubt). That night she had returned to the park with a blanket draped over her arm and a cup of hot cocoa. Both had been for someone else. When the knight had not shown she had followed the path back to the strange energy signature instead. If she couldn't find who she was waiting for, maybe she could find answers. Caedus had not heard the Senshi arrive, and it was pure fluke that he even found her when he did. A layer of snow had fallen; it was light, perhaps only an inch or so high. There were parts of the hill where it lay smooth, but the rest of it looked as thought the snow had been disturbed. The source of the disturbance was clear a few seconds after Corvus arrived at the hill; the heavily cloaked figure was shuffling slowly. His eyes were focused on the task and he seemed entranced with the action—watching the snow crumble beneath his touch. For nearly half a moment he did so—until suddenly, he looked up. Right at her. His golden eyes flickered, wide, and then seemed to settle as he relaxed. He stared blankly for a moment, and then said slowly, "I did not hear you arrive. How long have you been there?"

Fiona hadn't intended on patrolling that night, despite the fact that Cordelia had gone but when she received the text message well, anything she'd planned previously went out the window. There was no way in hell she was going to let her friend meet with the stranger on her own.
[Text to Cordelia: You're not going alone. I'll be there in 5 minutes.]
With that, Fiona was grateful she was already out and near the hill where Caedus had taken residence upon because she powered up and booked it over. She arrived just in time to see the hooded stranger playing in the snow and a ripple of uncertainty crashed over her.
He was acting so...human. It unnerved her. She didn't know what lay beneath the heavy garb he wore and Denebola hated not knowing things.
She approached them slowly, coming up along the other side of the man. "Sorry, didn't mean to take so long..." Mismatched eyes flickered from Caedus to Corvus with nerves thrumming beneath her skin.

"Not long." Her voice was soft, carrying little of the anger and irritability that she had thought to bring with her to the encounter. "I didn't mean to di--," she cut herself off mid-sentence, shaking her head. No, that wasn't true. She had meant to disturb him. She wouldn't start their conversation out with a lie; not when she expected truth in return. "It's beautiful, isn't it? The snow?" She held her position save for bringing up a hand to wave Denebola over to where she stood. "I am Corvus and this is my friend, Denebola."

Caedus seemed surprised—though not entirely alarmed—when Denebola showed up. He regarded her courteously, but it was clear that being outnumbered put him a little more on edge. He nodded to Corvus after she spoke. "It is a pleasure to know you by name, then. I am Caedus, but if you are here then I assume you already knew that." He cleared his throat and glanced at the snow around them before shrugging. "Your snow is beautiful. It is not something I am accustomed to. I have not seen it in…" He did not care to do the math. "A very long time." Almost sheepishly he simply stood up straighter and crossed his arms over his chest. "I apologize."

Denebola didn't miss the way their mysterious stranger had gotten more aphrenrsive upon her arrival and in response she stayed back a respectable distance. "It snows a lot this time of year, I'm sure there will be more opportunities." Her words came off too harshly and she winced.
"I mean-- I...have questions that I'd like to ask now that we aren't crowded by others." There, that sounded better. "But if you want to build a snowman instead, I guess we could do that." Okay, so the sarcasm was still coming on a little too strong.
She looked at Corvus, grimacing at herself. Sorry, her expression read. She didn't mean to come off so standoffish but it was hard not to. Especially since she had no idea what he looked like, everything about him was so wrapped up in mystery.
"Why do you cover yourself up like that?" Boom, first question right out of the gates. "It's hard to want to trust someone when you don't have an inkling of what they look like besides the color of their eyes."

Really? her own expression shot back as she glanced at her friend, lips pressed together for a moment as though she hadn't initially showed up to start making demands and toss questions around as well. If they had the time to have an entire conversation with expressions alone she was certain they would have both had more to say as well, but they weren't alone and -- The stern line of her lips twitched as she listened to Denebola talk. Try as she might, she couldn't keep the twitch of lips from turning into a grin. "Do you wanna build a snowman, Dene?" If there was the slightest trace of a sing-song tone to her voice she would never admit to it later. Rather than watch for the glare that was no doubt coming her way, Corvus shifted the blanket that she had been carrying in her arms, clearing her throat softly. "Does it look differently other places that you've been? You needn't apologize for enjoying a beautiful thing."

Caedus was quiet for a moment as he watched the exchange between the two senshi. "I do not want to build a man, regardless of his composition. I find that morally questionable given the circumstances. I am sorry," he said slowly. "…Snow does not seem like a worthwhile material given the effort such a task would entail. But I do enjoy it. This snow is softer than the last I recall. Also it does not burn upon contact, so I find that pleasing as well." He seemed to be trying to avoid Denebola's last question, but he had run out of things to talk about. He seemed wary to answer this one, and uncertain—and unhappy. Almost, even, self-conscious. "…I apologize if my appearance is unpleasant. I fear it would be more so if I did not take such care. I was injured once, long ago. Badly injured. The Rift was unkind to me, and it was a constant battle. I stood out too much among the other tenants. I did what I could to disappear. I want to stay this way. I want to be forgotten. I want to slip away without conflict. You would not like what you saw. I do not look like you. Not really. And." He was quiet. "I am ashamed to have met you in this state. This is not who I am. This is not who I want to be. I would not want you to know me, to remember me, with this face."

At Corvus's sing-song request, Denebola shot her companion a look that said, pointedly, not now, but she didn't have to vocalize her disinterest in building a snowman because Caedus beat her to it. Of course, he also seemed to misunderstand what a snowman was and how they were, most certainly not suggesting they create a livable man.
"That's not-- We don't mean an actual person --" The woman sighed, pushed her bangs back with a gloved hand. "Nevermind, consider it an expression from modern times." Even if she was certain that people built snowmen in all eras.
Then, of course the mysterious stranger would make her feel like s**t for asking such a question, but Denebola was determined to remain firm in her resolve. "There's a lot of things that don't look like us," she said, tone softer, kinder. "Though, you're being contradictory. You don't want us to remember you, yet you are ashamed of us remembering you with whatever face you're wearing."
The dragonfly senshi had once been very vain, appearance obsessed, and yet she was irritable over the idea that the man would find them all so vain. "So, does that mean you can change your appearance? Could all of your people?" That was worrisome if it was true. Shapeshifting was a dangerous thing.

"You might be surprised by the things that some of us have seen. The Negaverse has done some unspeakable things since they have resurfaced. Some of their rank were monsters before they were given youma prosthetics." There were times when she still woke with a start from nightmares of the demon hand devouring its prey. It made her queasy thinking about it even now. Lips pursed together Corvus shifted the blanket again, this time more of an anxious gesture than because her arms were tired or the fleece was slipping. "We were awakened on a planet that seems to greatly fear that which it does not know. It makes us curious but it also makes us worried; anxious. As a species we, humans, seem to prefer things that they can see as -- as a sort of reassurance. We have seen enough to make us wary and we aren't likely to forget you, even shrouded as you are."

Caedus glanced between the two of them warily. "I cannot shift shape at will, if that is what you are concerned about. To alter my appearance would take considerable time, and would be a long, painful process obtained through the use of machines and prosthetics. I have no desire to undergo such a procedure for cosmetic purposes. I am not offended that I am met with mistrust, but all the same I am more comfortable like this." He seemed to draw his robes tighter around himself, and crossed his arms over his chest. "It has as much to do with you as it does with me. I do not wish to be seen, or judged. I do not want to frighten anyone. You will judge me by appearance one way or the other. It is the way of society. Would you trust me more if I revealed the face of a monster? Please," his own voice softened. "I have not tended to my appearance in a thousand of your years. I am not proud to wear rags. I am not proud to be stranded here, helpless and defenseless and needing to rely on the charity of others." He sounded strained, but not defeated. Frustrated, but not angry. Hurt, but not broken. "I am sorry if I disappoint you. I was maimed, in the Rift. Old wounds still burn. I am self conscious. Defeat weighs heavily on me. I wish to forget the scars exist. I wish to hide my shame."

"Well, plastic surgery in any form doesn't sound like a great experience," Denebola stated plainly, watching Caedus draw his robe around him tighter like a security blanket. "I don't mean to offend," she said slowly, softer. She wasn't judging him because of his appearance but had been curious about closely he guarded his true appearance.
It unsettled her, made her nervous.
"You shouldn't be ashamed of your scars," she told him, glancing over to her companion. Her scars were more emotional than physical but she still bore some, she just had the convenience of hiding them beneath her uniform. "As for the wounds, we could help tend to them, if you let us."
She understood the weariness that came with defeat and his words made her stomach twist uncomfortably. "The place you came from," she paused, question dancing on the tip of her tongue. "Why didn't anyone come back for you?"
The senshi crossed the grounds, gave the man wide berth to show that she wasn't going to touch, attack, or do anything to him, before coming to stand beside her companion,
She had a feeling she was rubbing salt into wounds, she probably needed to stop talking and she looked at Corvus as if she could non-verbally say, please take over.

"If there is anything that we can do to make you more comfortable that others have not already done, please let us know." Many of those who had been present at the meeting seemed as though they had been willing to help enough, but for all of the offers of food and water, blankets and warmth, had no one thought yet to offer him a new robe or cloak if that was what would make him comfortable? "We could switch to a topic that would be more comfortable? The crystals, perhaps. I would like more information about them. The only beings that I have ever known to gather energy are the agents of the Negaverse. Is the technology you offer us the same as that which they use to drain innocents? You must know how it looks to ask us to do the same thing..." Not everyone would simply give their own energy. Some, she was certain, would drain from others to spare themselves.

Initially, Caedus did not seem responsive. He stood still, gaze averted. He seemed solemn, despondent. And then he sighed and glanced back to the two. "The crystals are meant to gather technology from any life forms. It is not specific to humans, and it is not meant to feed into any Chaos. We come from a synthetic planet, so we needed to collect energy to start it up. We have plants on my homeworld that produce their own energy. The crystals I have handed out, while refined, might be considered a barbaric tool. We studied them, but they have nothing to do with Chaos. The ones I handed out were synthesized on my planet to store energy in case of an emergency. I did not ask you to do anything you were not comfortable with, and I hope no harm has befallen anyone who is attempting to aid me. I do not wish for trouble, only resolution." He did not ask for anything, either because he had not heard or he was too prideful to make a request. He did not answer Denebola's question for a long moment, and even when he did it seemed as though he were still lost in thought. He looked to her, golden eyes cold and empty. "Would you have gone to a planet on the cusp of war to save a small party—or even a single man? …Would you risk the lives of more to search for a corpse? They think me dead. That is the only explanation. I do not blame them for putting their safety first. I would not ask them to risk their lives for me. I do not blame them."

Denebola listened intently, soaking up as much of the information that she could and was thankful that Corvus had diverted the topic into something a little less personal. His planet sounded strange and she was having a harder time wrapping her mind around a synthetic planet, at least from how he was describing it.
"If you were trapped by the negaverse for so long, how do you have so many crystals?" Came her question, soft and inquisitive. It seemed like he had an endless supply of them from how many he'd handed out and still seemed to have. Did he had a subspace to store them like where the negaverse hid their weapons or where their senshi phones stayed when they didn't need them?
She didn't know how to respond to him when he looked at her with those empty eyes. They sent a shiver down her spine and she stood more rigidly afterward. "I would've sent someone, especially since you were the one negotiating the treaty." She also didn't think she would've sent someone alone, not for something so important. "But I don't believe in leaving people behind."
Not if she could help it.
"I don't blame those that do," she said quietly, an added afterthought.
