Teleportation was a smooth transition for the seasoned general, for his companion he could not say but he looked to her, one hand gripping her upper arm and the other poise, ready to steady her if needed. Once certain that she could stand on her own, that she wouldn't wobble or falter, he let go and stepped back.
His arms spread open before him, gestured to the open space around them where the city lights twinkling in droves beneath them. The location wasn't particularly spectacular, just the top of the tallest building in the city, but the way the city looked around them-- it was one of the few sights Labyrinthite dared to say way breathtaking.
He'd picked the particular building because it would be harder for even the Eternal or Knight ranked to scale the building and bother them. He'd also chosen it because he thought the girl might appreciate the beauty, a small reward for taking a risk that proved to be rewarding.
Small steps first with this one then, eventually, he'd show her a different kind of beauty.
"Do you have questions?"

For a minute Tourmaline thought she might be sick. She couldn't describe the feeling that teleportation had left behind, but she was secretly very glad for the support of his hand firmly gripping her arm as her stomach sorted itself. "I -- Wow." Bright green eyes went wide as she looked past him to the hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights below. She had never seen the city from this type of angle before; through the window of an overhead plane was nothing compared to this. Cars on the streets, neon lights on signs, blinking and dancing and beautiful. "Y'know, I was impressed before you brought me up here, but this? This..." The corners of her mouth twitched before turning up into a grin. "Have you ever jumped off, just for the rush, and then poof," she made a hand gesture in front of her as she glanced at him, "made yourself appear somewhere else at the last minute?" Likely not the sort of question he was expecting, but she considered it a valid one.

"Tourmaline this is but the beginning," Labyrinthite informed her, and while his words suggested promise and excitement, his tone was flat. "You can't possibly imagine the world of possibilities that just opened up." He appreciated her eagerness and there was a tug of something inside of him that reminded him that he could be more than the soldier he built himself into.
Think of the race and what it means to you, he told himself and slowly, his posture softened an a slight, softer smirk spread across his lips when he peered over the side of the building.
"I've definitely considered it, but it's not wise or recommended." He'd tried something similar but from a smaller drop when he was younger. "You maintain your momentum, no matter where you land, it still hurts. Besides, it strains your teleporting abilities." Exhausted them too quickly, was wasteful. "Captains can only teleport a few times before they're too drained and it requires a concentration you can't maintain when falling at such speeds."

"Ah, but you're a general and not a captain, right?" Her brow quirked, both impressed and amused as she took a few steps away from him to further admire the view. Any lingering traces of fear that she might have had down on the street were gone, replaced with the thrill and exhilaration of everything that he was promising her with his words. "Promise I won't go jumping from any crazy tall buildings once I've ranked up enough to learn that trick." She turned back to face him as she drew an x over her chest with her index finger. "What else will I be able to do? What else can you show me how to do, General?" Not tonight, she was sure. By her count he'd teleported twice already and would have to do it once more to get them back to their bikes. Captains could only do it a few times, and a general more than that, but there had to be restrictions; there had to be a catch. "Do you come up here often?"

"I do not take my abilities for granted Tourmaline," Labyrinthite responded after a calculated pause. "You are correct in assuming that I possess more of a control over my teleportation abilities than a captain, but risking being splattered across pavement because of the desire to chase a foolish rush is something I am too wise to succumb to." He'd learned a lot about himself as he moved from captain to general, even with all the questioning his loyalties and sanity portion that he went through.
"Besides, there are better, more fulfilling ways to chase that rush than jumping from buildings." Combat was one of those things that he particularly enjoyed. Especially against a thrilling opponent who could hold their own against him easily. Though, it'd been some time since the general had been up against a true opponent.
Iris was always his preferred, even if he'd been trying to talk to her more than he was trying to fight or kill her.
"You can run at accelerated speeds, jump across rooftops effortlessly, scale two-story buildings with ease. You have an increased strength and with time, your weapon - " he gestured at her gloves " - will meld into something formidable like - " he paused, extending his arm to the side, so that it reached over the edge of the building lest the girl get too close and he risked wounding her. He concentrated slightly and within seconds his bone scythe materialized into his hand, grand in size and his arm dropped slightly from the weight of it but still remained suspended.
"I will teach you how to use your fists in the mean time. Combat is my specialty and death is my card, I - " he furrowed his brow wondering if it was time to warn her of his harsh teachings. Was it too soon? Would he scare her into the arms of perhaps a kinder, gentler general? Well, he resolved, if she ran then she was not cut out to serve beneath him anyway.
"I am a harsh teacher Tourmaline, but it is only so that I can prepare you for how ruthless you will need to be because they will not hesitate."

" Life is a harsh teacher, Sir." The Lieutenant responded softly after staring out over the city for a moment. It was so beautiful from this height; the moon and stars stretching out above them, hundreds of thousands of lights below. He was making such incredible promises and -- Others had made promises before. Others had let her down. Tourmaline tore her gaze away from the city, looking once more to the man who had brought her here. Whether or not he had intended to entice her by showing her such beautiful things, it had worked. "Promise you'll teach me everything? I won't give up if you don't."

Life is a harsh teacher, sir.
While it had not been the response the man had been expecting, it was startling a pleasant one and without thinking he stepped closer, hand pressing against Tourmaline's back, between her shoulder blades. "It is lieutenant, it is," he replied, voice softening by the second it is.
Beneath them the city was breathtaking and a sense of peace washed over the general, until Tourmaline spoke and he glanced down at her. "I promise," he said with certainty. Labyrinthite was a man of his word and he had every intention of keeping it for the girl.
"I'll teach you so much that you'll be sick of me."

She was silent for a moment longer, taking a deep breath to pull everything in. She pushed it all back out in a slow exhale, letting any doubt or concern that she might have had leave along with that breath. " Good." A grin had lit her face when she caught his gaze again, spring green eyes gleaming with an impish delight. "I plan on holding you to that, General Labyrinthite." She was also going to demand a re-race at some point, fair and square, no teleportation allowed -- Another night, of course. This night, lost bike race aside, Katrina Halloran felt like she'd won the world.
