After his first run in with the janarim pack, something that resulted mostly in Saraf getting a feel for their numbers, he started to follow them more closely during the free time that he had from his normal army duties. During the morning and around dusk was when he had a chance to follow the creatures but they weren't exactly the best times. It was cooler out during those times making it easier for the janarim to travel, which mean Saraf having to travel as well to find them. One man on two feet wasn't nearly as fast as a pack of beasts running around on four legs, which was a bit of a pain for Saraf. Still, he didn't want to just give up on his attempts to do this, wanting to get his hands on a janarim for himself while he was dealing with the danger the pack presented. He had confidence that he could do both.
Squatted down in the sand, hiding out in the shadows of a rocky outcropping, Saraf watched the pack of Janarim as they cased down an older looking xaraan, something that they meant to make a meal of. The more he watched them the more he got a feel for the workings of the pack, which of them were in charge, which were followers, which held no rank at all. They were in a way a bit like an army in and of themselves, but it made them that much more dangerous if you asked Saraf. He wondered if packs like this were normal... but that was a question he'd have to pose to Nuri when he saw his friend next.
Slipping forward toward the pack he worked on getting close to them as they finished off their prey, those 'in charge' moving in to feed first along with the pups they had. As he got closer he suddenly heard a growl from one side of him, something that drew his attention and just in time. Standing there, teeth barred, were a pair of janarim that were likely those who stood by on watch while the others ate. Drawing his sword he prepared to intercept the pair as they came charging at him.
It was a rapid attack, one that he was able to counter, his long sword lashing out to strike against the two janarim, with Saraf aiming for any weak spots they might have. He was able to fend one of them off, causing it to retreat, and knock the other one down. It was too easy, making him thing that it was all together possible that the pair were young and weak, new to the task given to them by their pack leaders. That was probably for the best since it meant that he didn't have to worry as much about the danger they presented. It was just the rest of the pack that he'd have to worry about were they to decide to come after him or something. Sword still in hand he moved toward the one that he'd tripped up, ready to defend himself if it got up.

As Saraf got near to the fallen janarim it gave a deep, rumbling snarl, its teeth barred at Saraf, before it lunged to its feet. The creature snapped at Saraf, backing up a few steps as Saraf got closer, before it lashed its tail at him, forcing him back. The moment that Saraf took the couple of retreating steps the younger Janarim whirled around and went racing off away from him and back toward the other one that it had been with. He watched for a moment, shaking his head, and decided that it didn't much matter. They were alright, but a bit too timid for his liking. If he was going to get himself a janarim he wanted to get himself a good one.
He glanced back toward where the rest of the pack had been... but they were already gone, having run off, dragging their food with them since it was gone as well. He shook his head before he started to follow along after them again. He would do all he could to follow the janarim while he was off duty, but once the sun fell completely he was going to have to go back. It would be far too dangerous to hunt janarim at night. That was just asking to be eaten by the lot of them, which was likely given the size of the pack. They were only going to run away from Saraf for so long before they got bored or just forgot about him as a threat.
