Esrael panicked as he looked around the ever growing class. He had told his dear litch friend Joseth that he was enrolling in this ceramics class...why wasn't he here yet? The Fallen was starting to grow worried. He didn't want to be be in a class with people he didn't know and didn't care about!

"Where the heck is my Jo...?" Esrael whispered under his breath. The class was starting to fill up. All he could do was hope that his Jo would show up so he wouldn't have to be alone...

Please Jo, please come to this class. I know I told you I'd be here... The boy closed his eyes and tried to ignore what was going on around him. All he really wanted was Joseth.

                                                    Joseth was late.

He had this date in his calendar for almost two months now, and the closer the class came, the more nervous he got. He had never been any good at art. Anything that required using his hands usually ended badly, even though he had gotten somewhat used to his destructive hereditary features. He just didn't want to ruin today and embarrass his dear friend Esrael if he made any mistakes.

He dressed in the nicest pair of jeans he could find in his closet, and lost track of time trying to find a sweater that wasn't nibbled by moths or ripped up. By the time he managed to find one, he had less than a minute to make it to the correct building almost half way across the campus. Being a Litch (and an uncoordinated one at that), Joseth knew that his friend would be getting more anxious by the second as the class filled up. He slipped on his sneakers and dashed out the door, making it to the class just as the instructor was checking partners off of the list. Of course Rae had sat himself in the corner of the room by the window, one empty stool waiting for him next to his friend.

Joseth smiled weakly as he joined his friend, only half listening to the instructions being given. "Sorry I'm late Rae, time got away from me, but I wouldn't miss this for the world." the teen gave him a small smile, resting his hands on his knees while the instructor lectured on how to use the pottery wheel and prepare the clay for throwing.

Joseth felt way out of his element, watching the others knead the cool clay. "I hope you know what's going on, this is your area of expertise, not mine." The clay Litch chuckled, getting up briefly to grab two hunks of brown material. He set one down in front of the winged boy next to him before wetting his hands like the instructor told them to. He watched the water drip off of his claws and back into the bowl for a second, fighting the urge to let his face settle into a hard line. He had a bad feeling about this class. He hoped his friend would help him through it, and had been both looking forward and at the same time dreading this exact moment.

For the most part Esrael had kept his head down, trying his hardest to avoid any kind of eye contact with anyone, he didn't want to give anyone the impression that they could take the seat he was saving for Jo. Every so often he would look up to watch the door. He had all about given up hope when he saw the Litch boy. Almost immediately Esrael perked up, his ears flapping ever so slightly at the sight of his childhood friend.

"You don't have to apologize, Jo! I knew you wouldn't let me down...you never have." A small blush crept across his cerulean cheeks as he smiled at his friend. Truth be told though, he had been a little worried that Jo wasn't going to show up. Esrael knew how much the Litch didn't like art classes, he knew that Jo felt like he couldn't make anything nice but Rae was adamant on showing his friend otherwise. For once he wanted Jo to be able to look inside himself and see how amazing he was.

Before getting down and dirty with the clay Rae took a rubberband off his wrist and pulled his hair back into the tinest ponytail. He couldn't help but smile when Jo chuckled, "Truth be told...I've never done anything ceremics yet, which is why I wanted you to be here with me! So this is nowhere near my 'area of expertise.'" The Fallen had seen an ad for the class and thought it would be kind of fun to try to make a pot or a vase or something. As long as Jo was with him he didn't really care if he couldn't make anything at all though.

He dipped his hands into the water, trying to resist the urge to playfully flick some water at his friend, mumbling a tiny 'thanks' to Jo for grabbing him some clay. Immediately he tried to figure out how to get everything to work with him. He pushed down on the pedal and his ball of clay started to spin and pushing further on the pedal seemed to make it spin a little quicker, he wasn't quite sure what that would do yet...but was was a little fun to watch the little ball of clay spin so fast. He gave one last glance to his friend and giggled lightly, "Ready, Jo~?" He pushed his thumbs into the middle of the clay, doing his best to copy the teacher as best as he could.

Joseth turned his attention back to Esrael when he spoke up, and immediately noticed that he put his hair up, which caused him to try and fight back a dark ruddy blush that was creeping up his cheeks to his ears. His fallen had the most stunning blue eyes, and with his hair pulled back, he could pick out the remains of blue tinting his cheekbones. His smile turned shy, crimson eyes dipping to his mound of clay and back to their wheel as his winged companion tested it out.

"You're good at any medium of art you try, you can't deny it Rae." he teased lightly, wrapping his hands around the soft brown material and began to knead it and twist it into itself, working it into something more malleable. "I'll watch this time around, since you seem to pick up on this super fast. I don't even know what I want to make yet." Joseth sat back on his stool, his attention rapt to the spinning ball of clay and Esrael's magic hands. His mind turned, trying to think of what to create, and what glaze he might want. He couldn't expect to make something intricate or difficult, as he knew pottery was challenging even for those with regular claw-free hands. He might be able to carve some cool designs into it, but that would require something to carve into first.

"Ready!" Jo replied as he watched the blue boy's thumbs sink seamlessly into the clay, creating a dimple in the soft material. He wondered how in the heck he would do that with his hands, wishing in that moment more than ever that he could have nice soft hands like his companion. He could see the look of concentration on Rae's face, and something in his stomach fluttered, causing him to make his lump of clay a little lopsided. He looked around the room, noticing that the other Nightmares and Daydreams seemed to be coupled up and sharing the wheels rather closely. Joseth only knew that he was going to a ceramics class, and wondered if it was a little more than a regular rec class. He returned his attention to his attractive friend, noticing he had shaped it more as his attention drifted.

                                                    "What are you making, Rae?"

Esrael focused heavily on the task at hand. It was a little stressful having his friend watch him so intently, but that gave him even more motivation to make something beautiful. There were a few reasons the Fallen had invited Joseth to the pottery class with him, not only was it because he wanted to go with someone he knew, but he wanted to spend more time with the Litch. Ever since their classes had started it had felt like they had slightly drifted away from each other. There was that and the fact that he really wanted to make something with Jo. Something that was theirs. Something they could look at for years to come and remember the time they spent together.

Very cautiously he pressed his thumbs to the side of the clay, pressing into it and making a wall. He knew he had to be gentle. One wrong move and he could completely ruin the clay or make it misshapen, that was exactly what he didn't want to do. Every now and then he would catch his companions gaze and every time it would make his heart flutter. Why was Jo watching him so hard? It was so nerve wracking. He was so worried about messing up and disappointing his friend that it almost made him lose concentration.

As the clay spun he began moving his hands up softly to make the lump a little smoother and taller. When he got it to the height he wanted he stopped moving his hands up and focused on getting the cylinder smooth. Without really noticing he hummed to himself as he worked, trying to distract himself. He had something very specific in mind and he wasn't going to mess it up, especially since he was going to give it to his friend as a gift. "I'm making you a mug, Jo! We'll carve our initials into it and paint it blue and beige like our colors and everything!" He let out a small giggle as he continued to work.

He had noticed that Joseth had been looking around the classroom. He slowly removed his clay covered fingers and took his foot off the pedal. "What's wrong, Jo? You look confused by something...?" He hated prying, but he wanted to know what was bothering his friend.

Joseth, as he was observing his friend craft the mystery pot, realized that something was making Esrael more and more uncomfortable. It took him a moment to notice how he would look back up at him from time to time and seem to get just a bit more tense. It took him another moment to realize just how intensely he was watching his friend and how it must have made him feel pressured or something. He bit his lip and returned his attention to his hunk of clay, which he had unknowingly created little gashes in. Immediately, Joseth removed his hands from the material, flipping it over so the lines were unseen and he tucked his hands in between his knees in front of him.

It was always like this. He needed to be aware of everything he did with his hands, otherwise he would destroy whatever he was handling. He briefly flashed back to the last time the couple had shared an art room, red starting to cloud the edges of his vision. He blinked hard, trying both to rid himself of the memory and not attract too much attention to himself from his companion. He had no idea how he would get through this class without help.

He looked back up when Rae explained his project, causing Joseth's heart to warm and a bashful smile to spread across his face. "Rae, that's . . . That's so thoughtful, I . . I don't know what to say. . ." Joseth sputtered, awe washing over him and the clever idea that his friend so naturally came up with. He was so touched, but realized that he wanted to return the favor and make his friend something too, but knew that whatever he made would never be as good as what Esrael would create for him. The giggle that escaped the blue boy's lips gave his stomach another flutter, which caused him to glance at his own hunk of misshapen clay. What in Below was he going to do?

"Nothing's wrong, Rae. I just, I don't know what to make for you . . ." Joseth breathed heavily, his eyes settling on his knees where his hands were hidden..

A weird aura had come down on them, Esrael could just sense that his dear companion was upset about something. Out of the corner of his eye he had noticed Jo pull his hands away from the clay and it worried him a little bit. He knew that Jo was uncomfortable with his hands...but the Fallen was still determined to show his friend that he could make beautiful things with those two hands of his. It was just figuring out how to show him that was going to be the hard part...especially since Rae really didn't have any set plans yet. He'd think of something, right?

The compliment that Jo had given him threw him off a little bit. His heart skipped a beat, his hands had become shaky, he was starting to blush slightly, and he had accidentally pushed down pretty hard on the pedal. Esrael was lucky his semi constructed mug didn't fly off and hit someone in the face. "Is it r-really thoughtful though? I don't even know if you'd really get use out of a mug..." Sadness coursed through him momentarily, Jo was his best friend...and yet...he was still unsure of what would be of use to him. Some friend he was.

He continued to work diligently, not wanting to make any mistakes at all. His concentration came to a crashing halt when he heard the twinge of sadness in Jo's voice. "I'd love anything you made for me..." He looked into his friends eyes, his own eyes becoming extraordinarily soft and giving him the most sincere smile. "Oh! I have a better idea! What if I make a mug that reminds me of you and you make a bowl that reminds you of me? I'll paint the mug with your colors but then carve my name into it and you can paint your bowl with my colors and carve your name into it!" His ears fluttered with excitement as his new idea.

Without skipping a beat he continued on the mug, rounding the lip of it and shaping it exactly the way he wanted to. Esrael paused for a minute, grabbing himself a smaller piece of clay that he could make the handle out of. The winged boy tore a chunk off and rolled it between his palms, making a longer, skinnier, piece of clay. He began to shape it like a handle, looking up every few seconds to see the kind of grip that would be best for Jo. When he was satisfied with the results he turned back to the mug. It wasn't quite right. Esrael grabbed one of the tools they had all been supplied with and began making tiny scratch-like marks in it. "Look, Jo. Don't be ashamed of your hands, little scratches like this look really artistic and pretty!"

Joseth, without missing a beat, replied simply to Esrael's insecure and unsure question: "Yes. I can always use more mugs, especially one from you." Jo gave him a small reassuring smile, a couple butterflies swirling around in his stomach when he caught the blush on his friend's cheeks.

Joseth continued to stare at his hands until the whirring of Esrael's pottery wheel stopped, raising his gaze to meet the other boy's. The breath was knocked out of him by the Fallen's soft statement combined with the look he gave him. The butterflies in his stomach exploded then, giving him the strangest most pleasant feeling he had felt in a long time. He didn't realize he was staring, and could have kept on staring into the beautifully deep pools of blue when Rae pulled him back down to the classroom, exclaiming that he had an idea. Joseth cracked a smile and nodded. "I like that, that's a great idea~" Joseth chimed, returning to his clay with new found enthusiasm.

Joseth kneaded the grey lump a couple more times before turning to his own pottery wheel, messing with it a bit to get the hang of it before he threw the lump of clay into the center of it. It took a couple of tries, but once it was dead center, he started his work. He immediately encountered a problem, his sharp thumb creating a deep gash that warped the clay instead of making it deeper and more bowl-like. He was hit with another pang of self-loathing, but tried hard to repress it. This was for Rae. He could do this. He picked up the clay and kneaded it back into its lumpy form, throwing it again and again to get it centered. He tried to be more gentle this time, but the same thing happened, the clay making a jagged ribbon-ing effect instead of smoothing it out. He started to get frustrated and more upset as he started from scratch again, trying his hardest to keep his claws away from the clay. He felt silly. Ridiculous even.

The pottery wheel slowed to a halt as Joseth ran his semi-wet hands through his lilac hair, trying to stay calm despite the waves of dark emotions crashing inside of him. He ran his palms over his eyes just as Rae called his attention to his own piece. He fought so hard to keep the tears back, but still some managed to near the corners of his eyes. One look at the perfect little mug being marred by all-too-familiar scars caused Jo to cover his eyes with his palms, resting his elbows on his knees to cover the pain and the dripping red edges of his vision. "I'm sorry, I'm so s-sorry Rae. I can't do this. I can't."
