Upon learning that Jade had returned to DC, the director of the small theater company she used to partake in had called her immediately, hoping to get her opinion on the play that had been written locally and they were thinking of producing as the spring play. Naturally, Jade couldn't resist the allure of theatre even if she wouldn't be able to actually be apart of the production outside of assisting with set building or auditions, when she had time.

She stepped into the auditorium, with a huge smile on her face, strutting towards the sound board where several people were gathered.

It felt right, even after all the years, to be inside the theater again. She missed it, despite still being able to act to some degree on camera. It wasn't the same. Stage productions held a special place in her heart and she hoped that she'd be able to audition for the next one.

But her old director had made it clear that he wanted help with casting so here Jade was.

She approached a boy with a crop of dark hair, tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me."

HERE HAVE ANOTHER ONE ¯_(ツ)_/¯

"Turn the lights down on channel one. No, more - they should be about twenty percent by now - okay, that's too much, do you even know what twenty percent is? Twenty percent means twenty percent, not let's just turn the whole thing off."

There was a muffled apology, and a rolling of the eyes. Caspian was grinning as the other tech ran off, arms rising so that he could link his hands together behind his head, rocking back on his heels. In spite of the fact that he wasn't exactly in charge here, he was at least one of the senior members of the team, which meant he had the luxury of bossing people around.

Sort of. Except when the actual boss was around. But that was beside the point.

Caspian felt a tap on his shoulder and turned his head, eyes flicking to see that it was an entirely unfamiliar young woman, her pale head of hair standing out starkly in the dim lighting of the theater. He raised his eyebrows, looking amused.

"Yo," he said lightly. "What's up?"

Jade only caught the tail-end of Caspian's directions to his fellow techies yet it still made her beam at the young man because, well, nostalgia reasons. "Are you the lead techie?" She asked innocently, watching as the other tech ran off to follow orders. It didn't matter that she didn't need to know if he was, but she was curious and always wanted answers.

"Oh, I should introduce myself," she blinked, sticking her hand out to him, "I'm Jade-- Jade Argent. Mr. Saxton requested that I come in and check out the script, get familiar with it so I can help with the casting." A smooth, easy introduction that came with a practiced ease.

She spent a lot of time introducing herself to people lately, she liked it even if it got tiresome from time to time.

"You don't know where he is do you?" She cast a glance around the theater but saw no sign of her former teacher. She reached up, tucked a loose white curl behind her eye and met Caspian's eyes. "Or-- if he's out, when he'll be back."

He grinned cheekily at the girl that stood in front of him. "Nah," said Caspian, jerking a thumb at his black shirt, the back of which read CREW in bold white letters. "Just another grunt. But I've been here for a few years now, so they let me boss people around sometimes."

He accepted the offered hand and gave it a firm shake. "Oh, right," he said, with dawning comprehension. "You're that new chick. I'm Caspian, one of the techs, obviously. Lemme show you around."

He raised a hand and gestured for Jade to follow him, Caspian weaving his way around a group of people onstage that were currently hammering together what appeared to be some sort of stairs. There was crack and splintering sound, and someone whispered "oh, ********> under the breath.

Caspian tossed a look over his shoulder, smirking.

"I dunno where Mr. Saxton is, I'll take you to his office for now, but welcome to hell. It's pretty chaotic here."

"Seniority is great when it gives you the taste of power," Jade laughed, throwing in a playful wink. She remembered when she would help with the costuming and how nice it felt to order the newer kids around. Talking to Caspian, even in such small capacity brought back a heavy does of nostalgia.

Jade hadn't realized how much she missed theater, and the craziness that accompanied it, until now.

"That's me, the new girl," she nodded, falling in step behind him easily. She let her eyes wander as she trailed behind, chuckling softly at the splintering and the cursing that accompanied it. "It looks a little chaotic but, isn't it always?"

She couldn't remember a show that didn't feel like a complete and utter mess right up until they had their first show. "It's the beauty of theater, it's a disaster until it isn't," she said fondly, eyes shifting to meet his eyes when he looked back at her.

"So, Caspian. Why a techie?"

"Very true," Caspian said with a nod. He decided, already, that this girl was much better quality than the obnoxious theatre actresses that seemed to think the world was theirs for the bossing. "I've spent too much time trying to cater to the needs of primadonna brats who can't even tie their own shoes."

He would have said no offense, but since Jade wasn't actually one of the actresses that he was used to dealing with, he saw no need to.

"Chaos is the spice of life," quoted Caspian dramatically, and grinned. "Or at least, that's what the stage manager says. He's a bit, you know." He rotated a finger in a circle around one ear. "But he's better than some old dude who doesn't know what he's doing."

He stepped over a pile of paintbrushes, dodged a low hanging beam, and led Jade around behind the curtains to backstage. Here there were clusters of people in groups of two and three, half of them rehearsing properly, the other half just laughing.

"Oh," said Caspian, as he sidestepped a group of giggling girls. "Well, I was supposed to be, quote unquote, a grown up, and my mom pushed me into getting a job. This place was hiring, so I decided to give it a shot, and, well, here I am."

He shrugged. "It's kinda interesting, though. I didn't think it would be."

"Oh, I know," she practically purred, mischievous grin sliding across her lips. If only the boy knew how caught up in chaos she truly was, but it was an innocent comment that she tucked away into the back of her mind, for later use if it fit. "Most certainly. Mr. Saxton is a...treasure," she laughed thinking of the director and all of her time spent with him when she was younger.

"Don't they say that brilliance often comes with a little crazy?" She asked, feigning innocence. It was a philosophy that she'd found she adapted to her lifestyle more than she realized.

"Being a grown up sucks, adulting is the literal worst," she sighed dramatically, throwing the back of her hand against her forehead. "Still, it's kinda fun to be on the inside of the whole theater and production side of things rather than the audience don't you think?" She asked, stepping forward to walk beside him.

"I dunno, I've always loved it. All aspect of it," she admitted a little dreamily. Acting and theatre had helped her find a great way to make a living.

He cast a look back at Jade and grinned at her. "You're reading my mind," said Caspian dramatically. "But yes, you're right, brilliance and cray go hand in hand, especially in theatre, I've determined, and especially with directors in theatre."

He led her around another group of actors and around to a darkened back hallway that had a series of doors on either side of it.

"Adulting is ridiculous, I'll just stay young forever," Caspian deadpanned, gesturing for Jade to follow him down the hall. "But I like being a part of something bigger, I guess, it's pretty fun, even if it can be kinda dumb sometimes too."

He grinned again. "But the dumb normally stems from people, really."

It was in that exact moment, with their playful banter and easy way of talking to each other while making digs at the world, that Jade decided Caspian was a person she enjoyed enough to decide she wanted to keep him. "You know Caspian, I like you. We should be friends."

She laughed at his joke and shook her head, silvery locks falling across her face. "Adulting is a joke, I'm just fortunate that my career means I can forever be a child." YouTubing was a gift.

"You could, if you wanted, come be on my show. Might be fun." Jade was always looking for people to feature or to join in her stupid skits. "I'm always looking for new perspectives and help with ideas."

She paused thoughtfully at his comment then grinned. "You don't seem to fall in those guidelines, thank god."

He let out a laugh and stopped walking, turning to face her.

"I'm down for that," said Caspian, dropping his hands from where he'd clasped them together against the back of his head. "So long as that means I get good snacks every now and then. Can't properly be friends and take on the world without good grub, right?"

Jade was, by far, the least obnoxious of the theatre people he had met so far, and Caspian was relatively pleased to have fallen into the likeable category. His eyebrows rose at the offer, a grin spreading across his face.

"That'd be pretty cool," he said nonchalantly, and then, "Nope, I have my own guidelines."

Caspian had stopped in front of a door with a number A03 on it. He gestured at it, shoving his other hand into his pocket.

"Saxton's office, at your service," he said grandly. "Anything else you need?"

"Oh trust me, I'm a woman of snacks," Jade assured him, thinking of how her cupboards were practically full of just snacks. She hardly cooked because, who had time to cook and might've lived on take out and snacking.

Caspian would know soon enough. Probably.

"Before I leave today, remind me to snag your number or just give you mine." The silvery haired woman shrugged as she reached for the doorknob to the director's office. "Though I'm sure I'll see you around." Her hand twisted the handle and her shoulder pushed against the wooden door.

"Not right now but I'll find you if I do." She grinned at him. "Until next time," she reached up to salute him goofily before slipping into the office.
