It had been some time since Ganymede had hung out in the art room - mostly because he'd been busy with other things, but also because he didn't really enjoy being around that many people at once. Solitude - when he had it - had done some good things for his creativity, but he was entering a slump. He needed to change it up, do something new, or at least see something new. The Arkham art room was basically the creative hub for the entire school, and as busy as it was, he had to admit there was a lot of inspiration to be found there.

So, the sour little geist had gotten together his pencils and sketch book, and headed on over to the room. As expected, it was fairly busy - though not as busy as he'd seen it in the past... He eyed the current inhabitants for a moment, as if analyzing which ones were most likely to get on his nerves before finally settling on a somewhat secluded - yet open spot off to the right. The lighting was good, and there was a free chair over there. He settled himself into it, then pulled out his things - and waited. Something was going to happen... Right?

Galan had been working on one of his figure studies, and not so much paying attention to his composition as he was filling his canvas. Here there'd be a bit of a face. There, the way the chair legs cast shadows on the floor. As each new inspiration got added to the canvas in loose pastel strokes, he'd build them up and weave them together, creating a sort of tapestry of colour and shape.

Then a Junior like him entered. They weren't rushing like they were late for class. They weren't going to talk to the teacher, or approaching any of the students with questions. They simply pulled up a stool not far away and rested a sketchbook in lap.

Galan smiled, more to himself than any gesture of welcome, and began to watch the other quite keenly. His tail adroitly adjusted his easel so he could better see around the edge of its frame, and he plucked a cyan pastel from his kit and began working the other's facial markings into his design, making a sort of starry sky of them above the rest of his collection.

In any other circumstance, he would have made some effort to be more discreet, but this was an art room! Everyone and everything in it were fair game as models!

Off in one side of the room, a class seemed to be going on... the teacher never was loud so it wasn't all that surprising to him that he hadn't noticed it. Honestly the litch-demon hybrid gave him the chills sometimes, but on some level he sympathized with the constantly pissed-off look he had. Ganymede had been told that his resting face looked more like a glare than anything else. Ah well.

He continued his scan, tapping his pencil against his book as he did so, until his eyes rested on a painter... Instinctively he narrowed his gaze. Some part of him wondered why it was always the painters that ended up staring at him, (Foras just loved to do it) but this was more a welcome thing than anything else... If he wasn't mistake, that was a goblin. Someone from Above. Someone new.

Exactly what he'd come seeking. Well, if he was going to be used for inspiration, he might as well return the favor. He began sketching, at least until the class ended. At which point, he got up and moved to a closer seat - if he'd done so before, the teacher would have inevitably come over and told them to be quiet.

"What are you painting?" That was an acceptable opener... right? Conversations were not his strong point - especially starting them...

When the other started sketching, Galan relaxed into his work. All was fair in love and art, (or love of art, as Galan felt). So absorbed was he that he didn't even notice as the other students eventually bundled up their things and exited the classroom. The teacher said some parting words in that toneless voice, but Galan barely registered the sound. He was well-practised at giving acknowledging nods to random admonishments while working, and this was all he afforded the teacher as he was left to his pastels.

Then, all of a sudden, a voice came from close beside him. Galan nearly dropped his conté and leaned on the easel frame heavily to still his racing heart. "You startled me," he murmured, looking over to find his model still present.

Galan blinked at the other's hesitant espression. The stranger's question at last settled in.

"Oh! It uh... It doesn't much look like anything..." With a flick of his tail, he shifted the easel towards his companion further. On the paper was a roiling swirl of shape and colour. If one looked closely, there were pieces of objects that could be discerned, but it was mostly impressionistic. The different lines and colours pulled the eye around the page, drawing the glance ever-upward towards the stars inspired by Ganymede's markings.

"Up close it might be a bit garish..." Galan murmured critically, and thoughtlessly touched the other's arm, drawing them both back and away from the picture. As they drew away, the image seemed both to expand by one step and contract with the next, as if it were breathing.

At last, Galan drew to a stop. The colours, so loose and wild up close, had coalesced into a crisper image with the distance. Ganymede's eyes and markings seemed to glow from a euphoric heaven, while below him a world expanded lush with form and movement. It was as if a god dipped hands into a boiling sea to create the first sparks of life.

Galan tilted his head, still critical and considered it for a few silent breaths. Completely without pretense or agenda, he asked in an unsure tone, "What do you think?"

Startled- Ganymede blinked, expression going blank as he sorted out exactly how to build a proper "concerned" look. Furrow the brows, make a frown, right...? Or was that scared? Either way, he attempted to mold his expression to pull off some sort of concerned look - as awkward and forced as it may appear. His eyes flickered to the canvas, running over it as he took in the colors, the shapes, the general flow of it all from where they were standing.

He didn't know much about painting, but he could appreciate the way it looked - perhaps even see a pattern there to be made into something else. His attention was drawn away by the touch on his arm - and nearly jerked away. He caught himself before making any sudden movements, though just barely. The oddness of being touched distracted him momentarily from the painting itself - his sensitivity was really something that was starting to bother him.

He managed to turn his attention away from it at the question - bright eyes returning to the canvas to soak it in. He didn't really know what to say at first - he'd seen Foras paint wonderful pictures (though he'd never admit to that) but this... This was something else. A ripple of light flowed through his markings, a nonverbal display of his appreciation for the work of art before them.

"It's..." He paused - what was the word? What would accurately convey what he thought without... well, not being enough? Was 'beautiful' too cliche? But 'pretty' seemed too little. 'Gorgeous' was over the top, he'd probably never bring himself to give anyone that compliment... "I like it, a lot." It seemed his mouth was going to handle this for him while his brain was busy rummaging through the various rules of social engagement - oh how he wished to go back to being a Freshling, before anyone had ever tried to get him to play the stupid game of 'polite' social interaction.

"I haven't seen one that looks so different from afar. It's nice." Nice. Was that the best he could do? Honestly... but it was too late - at least by his standards - to fix it. "What technique is that?" There- a distraction from his potential faux pas, hopefully the painter would go for it.

As his new companion struggled for words, Galan nodded vigorously, as if that, somehow, was an answer he understood. Then he looked over sharply, a little surprised, when the other said he liked it. "You do? Huh..." Galan looked back at the painting with greater scrutiny, releasing his light touch on Ganymede's arm to fold both arms across his chest, hands disappearing into the voluminous sleeves. "I've been playing with Impressionism. I'm still struggling with the lighting in Below, and though playing more with form and colour might help me get my bearings." He shrugged again for good measure. "Well, I shall call it..." Here his attempt at a triumphant tone faltered and he blinked round again. "Er, what is your name?" he asked lamely.

With a shrug be strode back to the canvas, still talking as he went. "You can have it, if you want? Just need to grab some fixative so it doesn't smudge..." Galan trailed off again as he stooped to rifle through the cupboards, looking for a spray-can of fixative. Fishing one out he muffled his face with one sleeve and, squinting, treated the entire page to a light dusting. "It should be dry in a few moments... Just needs..." And here he fished around for his paint marker and neatly signed the bottom corner. "There. All done!"

Impressionism... Vaguely he remembered going over the topic once, but he'd sort of zoned out that day. Too busy trying to figure out how to design a shirt - or some sort of top covering - that would have room for wings. Ugh. Wings. And tails. Momentarily distracted by his own train of thought, his eyes glanced down to see how his temporary companion's tail even worked with his clothes... hm. He blinked, then forced his attention back on task - he couldn't exactly explain why he was staring at his behind now could he?

Well, he could, but it probably wouldn't be a good explanation. AH- His name. It was time to talk again. "Ganymede. What's yours?" He tilted his head to the side slightly, eyes wandering from Galan to the painting, and then back again. Wait a minute. Have it? That? He stared at it again as Galan went about finding a fixative to put on it - and even signed his name.

Foras would be jealous. Why did he care about that?

Well, if he didn't want it, he'd take it. "If you don't want to keep it, I'll take it off your hands... My walls are kind of bare..." Well, that was a lie, but it was mostly just fashion magazine cut-outs, nothing spectacularly artsy at all.

"Ganymede?" Galan smiled, liking the roll of it on his tongue. "Wasn't he a Fallen lover of one of the Nine?" Galan asked, peering over at the other and swiftly deciding that a God would likely be quite pleased with such a tribute as this Junior.

He lazily wafted the fixative, encouraging it to dry with his baggy sleeve, and grinned. "Bare walls? Perish the thought!" He let out a soft, breathy sort of laugh, feeling a little self-conscious at his attempts to be conversational now that he didn't have the painting to distract attention from himself. He checked the canvas and it was dry enough to be handled.

Galan offered it out to his companion with a little bow, his tail curling up around his ankle again, bashful and self-conscious. He had to say something else, not stand there like an oaf! "I'm afraid my walls face the opposite problem. I've so many sketches and studies, canvases to be finished or re-painted... It's a wonder my dorm doesn't collapse under the strain of them all!" He came to a stop at the other's side, watching him curiously for a moment. "Are you an artist yourself, Ganymede?" Any excuse to say that delightful name. "You seem to have a keen appreciation for it, even for an amateur like myself."

Gany blinked, tilting his head to one side. This was the first time someone had actually placed where his name was from. "Yeah, he was... they have that story in Above?" He quirked a brow. That had him wondering what sort of other tales both reams shared... Or was it even really a matter of sharing? Maybe one side had brought the story over and the other one had just adopted it as their own. Eh... It was too much to think about right now - he had to concentrate on not completely ruining this interaction by being careless.

"I mean, they don't have to be bare, but I don't really want to hang up...... the paintings I do have..." As narcissistic as he could be sometimes, even Ganymede felt weird about hanging up portraits of himself that Foras had painted. That was just... weird. Not to mention might be something that could make Chries not want to hang out in his dorm anymore. Who was he kidding? When did they ever hang out?

"..Maybe it's the school's enchantments?" He offered up - and then realized that had not been a serious statement. He lit up a little in mild embarrassment, but rather than backtrack he just opted to pretend he'd never said anything at all. That was definitely going to work. For sure. "I--... yes?" He supposed designers were? Yeah, they had to be.

"I'm more into fashion, though. Clothing and stuff... so I don't know anything really about painting - just what my roommate talks about or what gets said in the art club." Ugh, the art club. He'd gone to precisely one meeting so far.

"I sort of...collect myths and lore," Galan confessed. "I had to leave most of my books at home when I moved down here, but I keenly remember that tale. Ganymede was said to be the most beautiful boy in the world, naturally." He gestured at the Junior before him, as if this were now proven fact. "And so they Nine took him up to be their cup-bearer..." Galan trailed off. Ganymede probably already knew this; after all, it was his namesake.

Thankfully, his companion changed the subject to fashion. Galan looked him up and down again, paying more attention to his clothes for the first time. Galan spent most of his wardrobe on hiding his skinny little body inside his layers, so he wasn't exactly a chic or stylish student. "Are you... Did you make the clothes you're wearing?" he asked curiously. Sewing and design were arts he knew practically nothing about. How did one imagine up a garment? Design wasn't just about drawing a jacket from memory -- Galan knew that much. It was about inventing a new way a jacket could be made or worn. "That's fascinating! Do you have a sketchbook? Can I see some of your work?" There was nothing more inspiring to this Goblin than other people being creative, and Galan was suddenly overcome with the urge to have a little sketch session with this Junior. Before he could stop himself he found himself blurting that very thought,

"Perhaps you could come design with me? My studio has plenty of space for whatever draping or...or pinning you need to do. I'd very much like to see your process. And...if it's not too untoward, to make more studies of you at work in your passions." Galan was practically aglow with the idea. So far his art partners were little Freshlings with their fingerpaints and collages. But here was someone who was dedicated to a craft! The Goblin's little heart was nearly bursting with enthusiasm. "I'll keep us well-supplied with tea!" he promised dutifully, as if this were some sort of bribe that only fools would turn down.

Ganymede blinked, momentarily confused by the gesture until he picked up on what it could potentially mean. Immediately after this revelation he lit up in a series of quick flashes through out his markings, tendrils wavering for a brief moment as if they might disappear altogether. Why. Why. He wasn't really going to complain about receiving a compliment, but he still hadn't quite learned how to respond to them! Especially subtle ones like this. Should he say 'thank you'? Would that be deemed as 'full of himself' if he acknowledged something that hadn't been stated outright?

Ugh, this was too confusing - he settled on pretending it hadn't happened at all. "That's... pretty much the tale down here, too." He nodded, finally getting his brain to work on an actual reply. Maybe he'd ask Tethys if the myths were different in Above in any way...

At the next question he glanced down at himself - this particular outfit...? "Mmm, yeah, but only because I bought similar stuff before and used it as an example... I'm better at the sketching part than the sewing part right now." He shrugged - honestly he was getting better at it but not enough to really make anything from scratch.

"Uh..." His eyes flickered down to the sketchbook tucked under one arm.. normally he wouldn't let anyone look at it, but Galan had some sort of captivating enthusiasm about him, so... He shifted his grip on it, and then held it out. "This is the current one, anyway..." He shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant about this but oh it made him nervous. "You have a studio?" He perked up, markings once more lighting up with interest. "Sure, I could come do that... This place gets a little too busy for me sometimes." He glanced around the art room - though currently not many people were present.

As Ganymede explained his skills, Galan nodded, keenly interested. As his discomfort melted away, his tail grew more active, swaying behind him happily. "Is it more like architecture than figure studies, then?" He bobbed a thankful bow as the other permitted him to look at his sketchbook. "Thank you!" he trilled cheerfully, looking over the sweeping lines on the page.

The dress was elegant, with long lines and a curving asymmetrical cowl. Galan's eyes swept over the way the fabric would curve around the slender throat, easily picturing how that would feel. "Oh, these are beautiful! What kinds of fabrics were you thinking of?" He held the sketchbook out a little, as if he were holding the garment hanging from his hands and swayed slightly, as if letting the dress swing around his legs. "If I could afford it, I would definitely wear it!" He wanted very much to look through the book to see the other designs, but hesitated. The other had seemed a little self-conscious sharing this much of his work, and he didn't want to pry without permission.

With a tiny little sigh of longing, he offered the sketchbook back. "I hope to see more of your work," he added softly, his glance direct and open and honest.

"Oh yes! I managed to get one of the studio dorms. So, I share my bathroom and kitchenette with about 6 other students, but at least I have plenty of floor space and wide windows. To be honest, I still haven't fully grown accustomed to the light here..."

"I guess so?" He shrugged, "the anatomy on the figures doesn't have to be perfect - it's the basic idea for what the garment will look like that matters the most." He nodded a little, figuring that was the best way to explain it. Most designer sketches had... terribly skewed proportions, after all. "But I take figure drawing classes so I can get the anatomy right too. It makes it easier to figure out how to drape things properly." He watched as Galan looked over the image - suddenly realizing that was the one he'd been looking at Galan while drawing... Would he notice?

"Um..." He chewed at his lip a little, "I hadn't really gotten that far... they don't have a costuming class right now so I'm kind of... teaching myself how to figure out good fabrics, but it's slow going." Ganymede really hoped they would bring in a costuming class, or SOMETHING... Deskri was a good art teacher, but he didn't know anything about textiles. He'd told him straight up.

"Oh, uh..." He took the book back, then cradled it to his chest. "I have... more, in my dorm." He nodded, gaze sliding off to the side as if such earnest behavior was unusual for him to deal with. Which, it was, Foras usually played it off like he was joking even when he WAS being earnest. And Ella... well. Ella was Ella.

"Oh, really..? That's lucky." He sighed, finally looking back to Galan. "I have two roommates... and they're both kind of annoying." He tried to sound serious, but honestly he didn't hate or dislike either of them at this point. "It's darker here, isn't it?" He tilted his head, "I don't really know a lot about Above."

"There isn't?" Galan asked, somewhat shocked. The Academy was so big and there were so many classes, it really was surprising that there wasn't a textile class of some kind. "Perhaps we could find a fabric store so you can do some hands-on studies? I used to do fabric studies back home, I'd drape linens and velvets and synthetics and practise drawing their drapes and weights. I imagine such qualities would be even more important in design, since that will drastically affect your structure and shaping, yes?" He really wanted to encourage his fellow student to pursue his craft, and if the school didn't have the facilities for it, then he'd have to find some other way to nurture his creativity.

"I sometimes wish I had roommates," Galan murmured in response. "I like having the freedom to work at all odd hours, but..." He shrugged self-consciously. "Back home my community was pretty tight-knit. There were always at least a half-dozen people in the house, and they were always coming and going. It was...a comfort. Here, despite all the people around, I feel a little...." He found his cheeks flushing a minty green in his embarrassment. "Sorry," he finished lamely and offered a warm smile to dispel the shadow. This wasn't the direction he wanted this conversation to go.

He sank down onto the nearest stool and tucked his boots up on the rung. "So, what are you working on making lately?"

He shrugged, at least, he hadn't seen one and Deskri hadn't mentioned it to him when he'd asked. "I guess not, the art teacher didn't seem to know if they would have one..." He sighed. "Maybe they'll get one if I ask some more." At least, he hoped they would. "Oh, uh.." He shuffled his feet a little, starting to feel a bit more awkward about this. He'd been going at it alone this far - not even Foras had pried so much into what he was doing... how should he handle this? It was equal parts flattering and terrifying - he really was teaching himself how most of it worked. "Y-yeah, we could do that sometime, I guess... If you're free." He shrugged a little, and almost sighed with relief when the topic wandered back to roommates again.

"Ah, is that how stuff is up there? I mean... for Goblins, anyway." He tilted his head, "I'm a cache orphan so I don't really know what it's like for Geists, but I'm told we're supposed to be kinda close at least with families." He chewed at his lip, now it was time for him to feel a little down about it - family was the one thing he craved desperately but currently believed he'd never have. "It's fine, I guess I kind of understand in some way." He shrugged again, then.... ugh, back to what he was working on...

"Well... I kind of got pants making down for myself but a good designer should be able to make stuff for other body types so... I recently enlisted my roommate to help me with pants that have a hole for tails? If that makes sense?" He tilted his head to one side. "It's a bit of a pain but I'm starting to get it... What about you?"
