After art class, Ella had come to Rowan asking for their help with their homework assignment. Naturally, they had no reason to turn down their sister's request, and now the two were sitting in an activity room the caretakers had let them use in order to work in peace. Their assignment was to paint a portrait of their partner, and the siblings both had set up easels and canvases, and were now working on getting out their tools.
Rowan was humming happily in a low voice, it had been some time since Ella had last wanted to hang around with them. They really loved their sister, but were a little clumsy at showing it. Usually they tried to offer to help Ella with her homework, since some subjects were pretty hard for her, but on occasion the way Rowan worded their offer simply made Ella upset and storm off. Blue eyes turned to look toward the teal-and-pink hybrid on the other side of the table. They wanted to talk about something, but didn't really know what. And this was their own sister, for deities' sake! Why did conversation have to be so hard? Ella probably didn't want to talk about history or plants..? Maybe familiars? She liked all their pets at home too. "Oh hey, I got a Gryftoo a little while ago. It's really dumb, but kind of cute and it really loves to cuddle. Do you want to come play with it sometime? Have you got any pets in your dorm?" they started the conversation while mixing some paint on their palette. The two should be about ready to begin working, now.

Ella was terrified of art class. It wasn't just the fact she wasn't good at art, it was more that her parent, Cael, was. Cael was amazing at art, and Lyra was a pro at language arts. And then there was her, who excelled at neither. So, when she was told to do a project she came running to Rowan, begging them to help her in hopes to please her parents in the near future. Luckily, Rowan didn't seem to have any issue accepting, and without delay Ella found herself in the activity room with her sibling.
Rowan hummed as they pulled their tools out, relaxing the pent up nerves of Ella. It'd been awhile since they hung out! Sure, they saw each other at home when they visited, but Ella had been so busy with her two friends that, honestly, it ate up all her time. Now that the dynamic seemed to have shattered and Ella wasn't sure where she stood, she had free time, and a clear head. Lately, she had begun to worry. Had she abandoned Rowan? Were they lonely? She wanted to apologize, but she knew that'd lead to awkward responses and shuffles.
Shifting into her seat, the little hybrid eyed Rowan before beginning to mix paints, tail flicking absently behind her. "Hm?" A Gryftoo? A smile appeared, nodding hastily. Of course she wanted to see them!
"Can I? Really? I'd love to!" Suddenly, her expression drooped. Did she have a familiar? Well.... yeah, but... The hybrid shrugged gently, focusing back on her easel. "Someone gave me a nezubat. They're a good pet."

"You can come see it after we're done here, if you'd like!" Rowan promised, suddenly noticing Ella seemed to grow kind of sad. Oh no, did they say something wrong? "Nezubats are cute too! Maybe when we go home it can be friends with Mama's bat? Oh-- you could help me give a name to my Gryftoo! I haven't come up with anything good yet. Or anything that would be easy enough for it to learn. Like I said, it's kind of stupid.. took me forever to even teach it to sit", the hybrid said, chuckling a little. Oh please, let Ella cheer up a bit with that. They didn't want to upset her!
Turning back to their own easel for a moment, Rowan's stomach churned a bit. It was kind of funny, really, how two such creative parents ended up with two such un-creative children. Funny in a sad kind of way. But still, Lyra and Cael had always been encouraging and supportive of them, even if the two didn't turn out famous artists. They were fairly sure they wanted to study history and different Nightmare and Daydream cultures when they got older, but Ella hadn't at least told them what she wanted to be.. if she wasn't sure yet, maybe they could somehow try to help? If she let them, of course.

Go home? That sounded nice. Break was coming up soon.... it'd be nice to just be home with her sibling and parents again. Somewhere safe and quiet. Maybe play with the neighbors kid and catch up? Ella nodded faintly, suddenly distracted by the naming talk. Really? Rowan wanted her to help? Reaaaaally?
"Can I?" She squeaked, lowering her brush for a second before realizing, oh no, she needed to work! Getting back to her art, her tongue stuck out as she concentrated. She leaned back for a second, face paling. Oh, Nine. This was terrible. How was she Cael's daughter? How? It was obvious she wasn't going to be a famous artist, or a writer! Neither of her parents talent suited her. No, she had.... other interests.
"Hey Rowan?" She called, leaning so her face could be seen. Now that she thought about it, she didn't know what Rowan liked to do! "What's your favorite subject in school?"
